Butterfly Beach Hotel

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

One of the hallmarks of any holiday in Barbados is a night at Oistins’ famous Fish Fry – and you are just a stroll from all the action (and a short drive from lively St Lawrence Gap for other nights out). There is direct access to two fabulous white powder beaches laid out either side by of this seafront hotel. The iridescent blue waters of the Caribbean may be tempting, but you can also take a dip in the freshwater swimming pools – or head up to the raised circular patio for a soak in its trio of waterfront whirlpools or relax on the ample sunning areas with loungers and umbrellas. The sea views steal the show at The Reef Bar & Grill too, with its new seaside deck providing the perfect backdrop for Caribbean dishes, and for its weekly rum punch parties and barbecues accompanied by steel pan sounds. Butterfly Beach Hotel is a great value for money resort in Barbados and a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award winner.

We stayed at Butterfly Beach late Aug - early September and had a great stay.We found all of the staff to be excellent, especially the housekeepers who never failed to greet you with a smile (big shout out to Wilma !) and the lady who ran the gift shop and arranges excursions and car hire was ever so helpful. We had to report a problem to reception- leaky cistern - and it was sorted within minutes. The rooms we had were not the newly renovated rooms such as on the lower floors, but they were squeaky clean and perfectly fine (and yes, I have stayed in 5* hotels so I do have a point of reference, thanks.) But who wants to sit in a room all day anyway when you have beautiful Barbados to get out and explore? But whilst in the apartment, it was certainly cool and had everything you needed (except a bottle opener but the little shop over the road sells them for $5 BBD! ) Our only issue with the room was a bit of noise came through an interconnecting door on a couple of occasions, but it wasn't anything to complain about. And sitting on the balcony watching the monkey(s?) roaming around the garden opposite was a treat! There were always plenty of loungers / seating available around all of the pools and decks while we were there, though I believe it gets busier at peak season, you could get a lounger at any time of the day. No early reserves here - everything is so laid back! We booked a 'turtle snorkel' trip through the hotel, and Neville and Roger were excellent guides - would massively recommend. We also hired a car for a couple of days through the hotel and the price couldn't be beaten online (I checked) and it was dropped off and collected from our hotel without any issues at all. Would recommend a drive up to Holetown and Speightstown areas especially. There isn't a whole lot near to the hotel - Oistins about 10 mins walk away, and St Lawrence Gap is a 5min bus ride, but there is a fabulous roti shop right next door (recommend the spicy chicken, pumpkin and hot sauce roti and a cold beer while you wait!) But having travelled through Worthing / Hastings and a daytrip to Bridgetown, I am not sure we would want to be somewhere 'busier' anyway - we were happy to get back to the Butterfly Beach! You can get a local bus from outside the hotel to anywhere you want to go, get a taxi or hire a car. So there isn't a lot to 'do' - but isn't that the point ? You are on holiday - relax, enjoy and unwind. We did ! We will definitely be back. Read less

Having read some of the reviews on here, what I’d advise people to do is choose their hotels according to their personal preferences. I personally do not like anonymous, all inclusive hotels - you could be anywhere in the world, they are bore me. I like to have my own cooking facilities, a nice pool, a good location, cleanliness and people with a bit of personality around the place - butterfly beach gives you all of this! The rooms are large with a small (but adequate) kitchenette and bathroom. The staff are pleasant and genuine, the food is nice and varied. The hotel is in a good location between the st Lawrence gap (very short, reasonable and fun bus ride) and Oistins (walkable - 5 mins). Also you get what you pay for. If you want utter luxury and servants, then go somewhere else and pay for it. Personally I felt this hotel exceeded my expectations. Also it’s right on the beach with beautiful views. Thank you to the General Manager and all of her staff for our wonderful stay. The air con in the rooms works really well also!! Read less

We hadn’t stayed at the Butterfly for a couple of years but the welcome we got on arrival made it feel like we only checked out yesterday. We got one of the newly refurbished pool view ground floor adult only suites. While these rooms are great to access the pool area quickly they do lack privacy which is something an upper floor balcony room provides. So it’s really a personal choice which you would prefer. The rooms are kept spotless by the brilliant housekeeping team of ladies who always have a laugh and a joke with you. Special thanks to Cynthia who was a pure gem. Also thanks to Janet Jennifer Jerome and all the team in the Reef bar and grill who looked after us so well. All the staff here do such a great job in keeping the hotel in tip top shape and making sure the guests have a trouble free holiday. Keep up the good work & hope to see you all again very soon.
