The hotel

One of the hallmarks of any holiday in Barbados is a night at Oistins’ famous Fish Fry – and you are just a stroll from all the action (and a short drive from lively St Lawrence Gap for other nights out). Enjoy direct access to two fabulous white powder beaches laid out either side by of this seafront hotel. The iridescent blue waters of the Caribbean may be tempting, but you can also take a dip in the freshwater swimming pools – or head up to the raised circular patio for a soak in its trio of waterfront whirlpools or relax on the ample sunning areas with loungers and umbrellas. The sea views steal the show at The Reef Bar & Grill too, with its new seaside deck providing the perfect backdrop for Caribbean dishes, and for its weekly rum punch parties and barbecues accompanied by steel pan sounds. You can see why the Butterfly Beach Hotel is a great value for money resort in Barbados and a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award winner.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating All as good as we expected

We had an excellent stay at Butterfly Beach. Everything was as good as we expected and we had a ground floor room with direct access out to a quiet shaded pool. All staff were friendly and helpful. Hoping to return soon. They dont advertise gluten free meals but were happy to adapt dishes for me.

Had a fabulous 2 weeks here first 2 weeks of October 23. Staff are lovely and friendly hotel a little tired now 3rd visit (nothing major lick of paint here n there) but being refurbished October next year. Totally recommend. The restaurant The Reef is fantastic and reasonably priced for top quality food. We will be back after the refurb.

We only stayed one night, but had a nice experience. The grounds are relatively small, but were perfect for our 2 couples family to hang out. The rooms were very clean and spacious. We even saw a monkey hanging about from our balcony. Though this hotel doesn't have a beachfront, the adjacent hotels do and access was very easy. Overall, we would… Read more

I was really excited to stay at this hotel after spending a day there on a day pass last year as it was really lovely. We were not disappointed....mostly. The beginning of our stay was blighted by the fact that someone accessed our room at some point and took down both debit and credit card details and then went on a spending spree in a province further afield. We reported this to reception as soon as we realised and they were very helpful in getting the manager, unfortunately that is where the 'helpful' ended. We were made to feel like we were lying about it; not a single apology that someone had been able to access the room, and she showed no interest in finding out how it happened or who it was. She looked at who had accessed the room using a key card and said it was only us or housekeeping (this was the day after we reported it). We asked about the CCTV that was in the corridor but we get the impression this is not actually working. My partner spoke to the housekeeping staff when he next saw them just to ask if the room is ever unattended whilst they are cleaning (in a very nice manner) and got approached after by the manager who said he is not to question her staff! He was in no way accusing them, he was just curious as to if they had noticed anything, The issue did not get resolved and when we got home we also found out that they have taken the SIM out of a phone! Thankfully we had locked all our money, passports and other documents in the safe not putting my handbag in there was an oversight as was leaving the phone in the room, but we asssumed it would be safe as we had only left the room briefly to attend dinner when we arrived. Thankfully we realised about the cards quickly and were able to freeze them, although they had already done 2 supermarket shops and 2 KFC visits totalling nearly 300BBD. So please, if staying here, make sure everything is in the safe all the time! It did ruin the first few days of the holiday and felt werid that someone had been in the room going through our things! This was our third visit to BIM and we have never experienced any crime, we have stayed in another hotel and an AirBNB and never had any issues so please do not think all of the island is like this. On a happier note, the rest of our stay was very enjoyable. The food at the restaurant was excellent (apart from one day where we had to send back the tacos as the meat was cold), the room was comfortable, the location is lovely being right on the beach, and the place was generally clean and looked after. The staff at the restaurant were brilliant, so accomodating and friendly. Debs in the shop is lovely too, always cheerful and helpful if you need any advice. The shop stocks pretty much all you could need but there is a shop across the road that is cheaper. Cigarettes were 40BBD int he hotel shop, but only 20BBD across the road; that is some mark up! Suncream was not too bad, it was actually cheaper than the supermarket down the road if you went for the Tesco brand. There was an issue with the main pool while we were there, it had some sort of algae in it which ruined swimsuits and people with young children were apprehensive about their children swimming in there too much especially if they swallowed the water. The long pool at the side was fine. The beach is lovely, long and beautiful and the sea is calm so safe to swim in (unlike the east coast). I would recommend a room with a pool view as the island view rooms that face the main road will be quite noisy as the ZR buses sound their horn at all times of day and night. The room we stayed in was spacious, it had a kitchenette which was handy and we used the fridge, we were half board so we had no need for the hob, toaster, or microwave. We did use the kettle although we had to keep asking for milk as not much is provided. If you like a decent cup of tea then take your own tea bags as they use Lipton tea and even with 2 tea bags it is not very strong. Breakfast is nice, not very varied each day but there is ample choice. Dinner was lovely, each day was a different menu and if you are half board you can ask to change to lunch on some days (apparently only a couple of times during your stay) which is great if you have younger people in your party as they have burgers, pizza, tacos; more choice than at dinner and it is served up until 5pm. The bar is not cheap compared to local bars but it is not really expensive either especially if you make use of the happy hours (12-1pm and 5-6pm). You wil pay 9BBD for 2 Banks, or 10.19BBDs for rum punch (qhich is delicious). There is a rum punch and fish cake party on Mondays 5:30-6:30pm which is good, it gives you a chance to talk to other guests. The location is good for Oistins as it is only a 15 minute walk, and there is asupermarket within a 10 minute walk. You can hop on a ZR bus outside the hotel which is only 3.50BBD for any journey no matter how long. 10 mins on the bus and you are in St Lawrence Gap. I would have no issues recommending this hotel if our issue had been dealt with in a sensitive manner by the manager as this was all that ruined our stay, other than that it was lovely and I would consider staying there again if the price was right.
