The hotel

This modern resort is split into two hotels and occupies 300 ft of south coast beachfront. It doesn't matter which hotel you stay in, as you are free to use the facilities at both. This means you can enjoy two swimming pools, an oceanfront restaurant and, of course, a selection of complimentary non-motorised water sports along the lovely white sand beach. Coral Mist and Blue Orchids Hotels have the added advantage of being only a 5-minute drive from the shops, bars and restaurants of the lively St Lawrence Gap.

Our favourite Caribbean island and we will be back. I think when we come next time we would definitely upgrade to a bigger apartment style room, as we looked into those and they were more spacious, bigger kitchen, living area etc. However the price we paid and the beautiful beach and sea view we had it was amazing. The bathrooms especially could do with a big refurb, re grout, remove the shower curtain and upgrade to a rainfall shower etc. If it were to be refurbished it would be 10/10 especially due to the south coast location. The hotel is on the dated side which we were fully aware of and alot of the hotels are dated when it comes to barbados, unless you are in more of a resort. The room was clean and cleaned daily which was the most important thing. As for the food and drink, we did not really eat in the hotel as we were always out exploring the beautiful island! My partner had the fish cutter from the hotel which he enjoyed! We had drinks and the rum punch which were great, we particularly recommend the smoothies. Although i didn't hear bad things about the food, we did also find it on the pricier side, considering everything is on your doorstep for cheaper. The hotel itself was very quiet but this was due to us being there off season and before the main crop over events, this made it even more peaceful for us. However im not sure how easy it would be to get a sun lounger by the pool or beach if it was full. The pool areas were lovely with sea views easily seen from both. There was no entertainment in the hotel for when we were there, but we were not expecting it as its not a resort. We wish they cleaned up some of the seaweed off the beach when we had a few days of increased seaweed. The staff are amazing at the hotel shout out to TISHA, CHANELLE, AMANDA,CHANTELLE, REGGIE <3. We will miss you all, thanks for providing information that we needed especially bus routes and restaurant advice! As for location this is PERFECT for the south coast, there is so much to do on the island and you do NOT need to be all inclusive in barbados. For the supermarkets there is a massey, petrol station 24hr shop, trident all within 5 minute walk away, to get food and drink for your rooms. You are 15 minute walk from the gap which obviously has all your restaurants, also 15 minute walk away from the boardwalk which has a few more restaurants. Also plenty of bus stops around for the reggae vans to go up to bridgetown or oistins for only 3.50bd. Taxis are pricier so for west coast ideally hire a car, on average was around 70bd for west coast. But hire a car to make it easier to explore the whole island if you can! Try worthing food court 5 minutes away from the hotel, amazing authentic street food! I have listed below some places to see and eat The hotel is in need of some refurbishment, the pillows we did find lumpy, the wifi was temperamental cutting in and out and the bathroom is particularly in need of updating. HOWEVER the beautiful white sand beach and location on the island and the fact the hotel was clean is all worth it for us. If you want something super modern and all inclusive then this is not the place for you but if you want to be seeing the island, being in a clean room, then go for it and we will definitely back! Some places and trips we did that we recommend: Savvy on the bay great for entertainment and music on an evening The boatyard beach club great value for money with snorkelling included for turtles and shipwreck and spending money back to spend on food at their restaurant QP Bistro-not authentic but BEAUTIFUL experience in a restaurant for sunset Champers-again, not authentic but beautiful for food and sunset The rum distillery in St Lucy Harbour lights-great night for the dinner and show and drinks included! The gap-many great restaurants, take your pick. West coast-great beaches and fishermans pub is a great authentic restaurant. Worthing food court-great street food, particularly terry's food truck Oistins fish fry (main day on a friday) Huntes garden-beautiful enchanted gardens only 40bd per person, towards inland barbados and easy to get to on the bus The seafood shack towards the gap, amazing seafood Rihannas house perfect for a photo opportunity Be sure to try the local dishes snapper, marlin, coconut shrimp and stock up on bajan hot sauces! We had tonnes of rum punch and we recommend Mikes rum punch available in most supermarkets. Read less

Good hotel in a great location. The hotel backs onto the beach, with amazing views and lucky enough to see turtles laying their eggs! The hotel is on a main road which is noisy, but didn’t really disrupt our sleep. The staff were very friendly, we didn’t eat in the restaurant but getting drinks was very slow. When we arrived at the hotel, with our 6 month old baby they tried to charge us 15 US dollars a night for a cot which we refused - I feel this is very poor when you’ve already paid for a hotel. The pools are also a lot smaller in person, but overall good hotel! Read less

2 week stay at a lovely hotel. Staff; friendly, helpful and spot on, always smiling and pleasant. Restaurant: drinks prices are expensive, though at 10bbd a bottle of beer, we would of paid this If the staff were not so rude, Hotel itself is perfectly located, within easy reach of Rockley Beach, Shops, Restaurants, Worthing court and not forgetting the devinchies pub for a flask of rum, bottle of coke and bucket of ice and the best fish cutter and amazingly cheap priced (turn right out the hotel and it’s near the traffic lights) The fact that all rooms have a sea view is fantastic, the rooms are cleaned daily and shower gel/shampoo pumps provided. Maybe a little dated, though we did not go to Babados to sit in our room, want posh you will pay double even triple. The only negative which the hotel has no control over Mother Nature, is the seaweed/sea grass, we had 4 days of beautiful Caribbean clear sea to swim in, the remaining 10 days the sea was ruined by Seagrass, yet Carlisle Bay was clear, so no hardship to jump on a reggae bus. We would definitely book this hotel again in a heart beat, the location is amazing and price spot on. Read less
