Coral Mist & Blue Orchids Hotels

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

This recently refurbished modern resort is split into two hotels and occupies 300 ft of south coast beachfront. It doesn't matter which hotel you stay in, as you are free to use the facilities at both. This means you can enjoy two swimming pools, an oceanfront restaurant and, of course, a selection of complimentary non-motorised water sports along the lovely white sand beach. The complex has the added advantage of being only a 5-minute drive from the shops, bars and restaurants of the lively St Lawrence Gap.

This Hotel is right on the beach and I mean on the beach and the view of the sea is spectacular. Easy walking to restaurants: Champers, Accra Beach, groceries and St. Lawrence Gap. Easy to book tours from here with pick up at the front door.

We stayed here for a family holiday in April 2019.Great location wonderful beach and very clean hotel. The Beach was the best thing about the hotel, practically private with public access at only one passageway further along the beach, all rooms have a sea view with the ground floor being the most popular, Great value for money and very clean with the rooms cleaned daily. The hotel is very safe with 24 hour security and reception. The downsides are the busy road outside which is busy most of the evening, however in some double rooms it is not a problem and in the studio rooms if you keep the bathroom door shut it eliminates lots of the noise. The Staff were generally efficient but not very engaging, reception staff always seemed to be distracted by something more important than us. The restaurant service was pleasant but painstakingly slow, allow an hour wait for any food order, but when or if it does arrive it was generally ok. Great bar for food and drinks across the road (Mojo's) and supermarket within a five minute walk. I would totally recommend this hotel if you are looking for a great base, I wouldn't however recommend it if you don't plan on venturing out and about for your food and entertainment. Read less

We spent ten lovely days here in Coral Mist. You have the use of the blue orchid hotel and their facilities too as they are on the same premises but as the hotel wasn't busy we didn't feel the need to wander from Coral Mist only maybe for a stroll. Our room was spacious and clean. It had plenty of storeage for clothes and our belongings and the kitchenette was well equipped. We didn't cook anything but often had breakfast or lunch sitting on the patio. The birds are very cheeky and will come right up close to steal a few crumbs which of course we didn't mind. The kitchenette could have used some washing up liquid so that we could have washed up properly rather than rinsed our cups/plates. The beach is lovely and clean and apart from the sound of the crashing waves there is nothing else to disturb you as it sort of sits in a bay without access to other pedestrians. The staff are great. My husband lost his snorkel mask because a big wave ripped it off his face and one of the sunbed guys searched the beach in case it had got swept back onto the sand. Tanya from reception was a great help, so friendly, genuine and kind. Reggie helped us with some trips and restaurant bookings, i get the feeling he knows everyone on the island. The location is good, 20 minute walk to St. Lawrence Gap, close to supermarkets, restaurants, bars all of which are in walking distance. If you fancy going further afield there is a bus stop right outside the front door. I would stay here again and would recommend the hotel to my friends and family. Read less

This is a great option as it has a sister hotel next door that they share pools (so 2 pools), game room, gift shop (have medicines, toiletries, etc.) and restaurant (which the food was horrible). The rooms all have a view of the beach/ocean, except rooms that end in 01/02 are not best view so ask not to be placed in those rooms. We had a 2 bedroom which was clean, had all kitchen amenities (pots, bowls, plates, cups, cutlery, sponge, towels, etc.) except cleaning supplies (no broom, dish liquid or paper towels). The air conditioners are in the bedrooms and not in the open seating area. When cooking the place gets extremely hot. We had opened the front and back doors to get some breeze and some small birds occasionally flew inside. Staff were very nice. Restaurant food was terrible - really not worth the money at all and service is slow (even for island time). Can see turtles swimming and crabs stay by the rocks. The waves are high and strong (in March) so mornings were easier. We went back and forth from the beach to the pool all day long. Beach is wonderful to walk but not very long. We went to the beach next door - it was hoping and more manageable waves. The hotel is right at a beepbus stop so easy to get on/off to go anywhere. There are two super markets within walking distance (one is better than the other). We got all we needed there. Planning to go back next year. Read less
