Coral Mist & Blue Orchids Hotels

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

This modern resort is split into two hotels and occupies 300 ft of south coast beachfront. It doesn't matter which hotel you stay in, as you are free to use the facilities at both. This means you can enjoy two swimming pools, an oceanfront restaurant and, of course, a selection of complimentary non-motorised water sports along the lovely white sand beach. The complex has the added advantage of being only a 5-minute drive from the shops, bars and restaurants of the lively St Lawrence Gap.

We’re on our last day of a 2 week trip to Barbados and Caribbean cruise , time in Barbados we’ve spent for the first time at Coral Mist Beach Hotel. This is our 19th visit to the island so fair to say we love the place and to date have had in the main good experiences at a variety of hotels . Our stay at Coral Mist has been split into 2 pre and post the cruise , trying to be very fair with this review and give an honest account of positives and negatives. Positives The hotel is situated on a beautiful beach plenty of sun beds and umbrellas and staff are helpful setting up, as with all beaches on the island it’s public but it’s one of the nicest on the south coast. Room staff , pool guys and the restaurant team all did a decent job and were helpful . Hotel grounds are pretty and maintained well . Negatives Reception team were unhelpful with any requests made, replied with an attitude almost taking great delight in saying no.Something I’ve never experienced anywhere on our travels. When late check out requested and not available only option is to use a basic shower room by pool limited facilities and no hairdryer , a hotel of this size should have a courtesy room available as standard. Rooms are very tired cracked or broken tiles in rooms we stayed in , mould on patio curtains in B106 Bathrooms all though cleaned as much as possible by staff are grubby and need renovating Restaurant interior grubby , menus covered in plastic and constantly sticky. Restaurant staff tried there best but meals ordered don’t always get delivered as stated in menu, variations on salads arrived on a number of occasions arrived without any explanation assuming my due to shortage on supplies ,cocktails requested for example sea breeze ordered told no ingredients and ended up as vodka with lemonade. Ground floor Room B106 next to the kitchen allocated even though previously requested a mid to high floor , appreciate requests cannot always be met but to be given the complete opposite seems very odd , especially as at the time other rooms were vacant. In my opinion this room should be actually used as a courtesy room due to its location next to kitchen , patio area is almost unusable as you are constantly in view to diners in the restaurant and bar hence curtains remained closed and patio not used or view enjoyed. Having been told room could not be retained , housekeeping arrived on the dot at 12pm showing no flexibility as was the same at 3pm check in even though room was clearly ready , really dreadful service. In summary this a Budget hotel with a capital B,customer satisfaction is definitely not a priority with some of the reception staff who seem to deliver disappointing news regarding your stay with some delight , there are indeed much better hotels in the same price range that we’ve stayed in that have delivered excellent service and superior accommodation, we will know next time to choose more wisely. I’d advise future travellers to look elsewhere . Read less

Book last minute to attend a family wedding ... very fair price the rooms have everything ..small well Equipped kitchen pretty hotel right on beach, the beach is beautiful some days big waves but nothing to stop you getting in the water .. rooms cleaned every day and hotel cleaned constantly we woke up to a sea view also turtles hatching every night on beach and helped rescue them the hotel staff alert you to the rescue if you are interested in conservation. Also had the pleasure of quietly watching a turtle lay eggs a few feet from our room .. Booked a trip on catamaran we chose a more expensive option and couldn’t have wished for a better crew we swam with the turtles saw beautiful beaches and coves had the most amazing day..0h and got very drunk ! . the caves are a must and get your driver to stop at Celestines for a very traditional Bajan lunch ! Outside the hotel easy walking to a few good bars and supermarkets both ways and a nice stroll into St Laurence Gap for a livelier night out ... Thoroughly recommend Oystons fish fry Friday night what a great first night ! Ok it’s not Sandals but we prefer small and friendly and wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Read less

Just had 10 lovely days at Coral Mist hotel. Location was perfect for everything, sea right on your doorstep ,bars and restaurants close by,supermarkets 5 minute walk. All the staff are wonderful and very helpful. Restaurant was usually quite which is strange because breakfast was probably the best we had anywhere and cheaper than anyone else. Plenty of sunbed on the beach, and by the pool if you prefer, and if you can't get just ask the wonderful Andre the beach man who will soon find you one. We had a Studio apartment which was big enough for the 2 of us and had all the cooking facilities you need Though we didn't use them apart from the kettle obviously. If you want to buy bottle beer go to Massys supermarket 5 min walk away and take your empty back and get cash back, every little helps. Happy hour every where so look around the area including the hotel 3 till 5.All in all great place to go and hopefully will return One last point smoking is not allowed in any rooms and not on your own patio, most restaurants and pubs are the same and they are very strict on this. Never had a bad meal anywhere. Ps Fish fry on Fridays is a must at Oistins, 30 dollars in a taxi, forget that get the local bus only 3.50 dollars . Thanks for a a great holiday. Read less
