Coral Mist & Blue Orchids Hotels

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

This modern resort is split into two hotels and occupies 300 ft of south coast beachfront. It doesn't matter which hotel you stay in, as you are free to use the facilities at both. This means you can enjoy two swimming pools, an oceanfront restaurant and, of course, a selection of complimentary non-motorised water sports along the lovely white sand beach. The complex has the added advantage of being only a 5-minute drive from the shops, bars and restaurants of the lively St Lawrence Gap.

We were booked with Coral mist and was placed in a Blue Orchid room, I was thrilled with the room the staff had given us everything we had asked for. The view was amazing. To the left we had the view of the beach and surrounded by the garden and pool in the distance on the right. Just beautiful to wake up every morning and have breakfast out on the balcony. To see the sun set there was amazing too. The hotel is in prime position for everything. Supermarkets to the right, Lots of places to eat to the left, mojos over the road was a nice place to eat. The room was well equiped to cook for ourselves and kept clean and tidy by the maids. Rooms are tired but are clean, the position and the view outways that. We will be booking here again for 2021 as loved our stay so much. The staff and barbashian people couldn't do enough for us and are so friendly. We are still here and will be taking a little bit of barbados home with us we have truely fallen in love with the place. Read less

Accommodation is definitely basic but it has everything you need and is clean and the staff are lovely. What really made it for us is the location and the beach. The beach is not private but it's hard to get to it unless you are staying in one of the properties facing it, so you are not hassled by people walking by trying to sell you things, it really felt special. There are frequent turtles popping up to breath just 10-15 metres off the beach. Kayaks are available to use for free which is great to go turtle spotting in. Andre the beach guy is very cool and helpful and we had some fun conversations with him. The hotel is in a good location to catch a Zed R bus into Bridgetown or Oistins and close to many other great beaches. The hotel does have two pools, both are pretty small but who needs a pool when you have such an amazingly, crystal clear ocean on your doorstep! Our room (B204) had a tree right outside the window which restricted our view of the sea and it looks like some of the others have an even more restrictive view so perhaps you can request one that doesn't. Our room was noisy there doesn't seem to be much preventing the road noise from coming into your room and the taxis like to sound there horn at every passer by. It didn't bother us and the benefit was that you could hear the cacophony of amazing whistling toads. Hunt them down and you will be amazed at how loud they are for such a tiny creature. Beach towels are provided for free and the air con in the hotel room worked flawlessly and was very much appreciated. We had two single beds when we arrived but they were pushed together and double bedding applied without question or hesitation. Expect to pay around 150 Barbadian Dollars on check out as this is the government tax. Some tourist shops will give you duty free shopping but most things are still expensive. If you do the tourist thing, skip the caves and go to Hunte's garden it's magical. Definitely would recommend going to Oistins on Friday night for a few beers and a super fresh fish dinner followed by a stroll along the pier to watch the turtles being fed by "the turtle man" We would come back to this hotel again and may well come back some time in the future which is always the acid test. We booked through BA Holidays during their flight sale in January. It was our first family holiday with no grandparents, traveling with a 2.5year old and 3 month old. We stayed for 2 weeks. Prior to our trip I emailed the hotel to request the possibility of not having a ground floor room, the responded promptly to say they couldn’t guarantee it - fair enough. We arrived to Barbados with a lot of luggage. In the collection hall there are no luggage trolleys and you have to pay someone to take the luggage (if you want). There are also long queues while you go through customs. From advice on the forums we didn’t prebook our transfer and got a taxi from outside the airport, there was no wait and super efficient. It was about $25US from the airport to the hotel. Check in was quick and efficient. Unfortunately we were put on a ground floor room (B104), we asked for the possibility to be moved and they said to come back in two days. Room was clean but basic, kitchen had everything you needed. Couldn’t massively hear the road, but we live on a semi busy road at home so didn’t notice the difference. After a couple of days the hotel managed to move us to a floor up (A210). Again room clean but basic, kitchen had what we needed for the stay. This room was far superior - slightly bigger than the previous room and lighter. There was also a door between the kitchen / hallway and the main living space that we shut in the evenings. All rooms are sea facing and what a view! Beach and Pools: There are sun loungers and umbrellas for the beach, sun loungers for the pool but minimal shade in the coral mist pool. We spent most of the time on the beach - the loungers would be put out when you got down there so no need to reserve! Pool was a great temperature for us and we struggled to get the eldest out. Sea was a mixture of waves during our stay and most of the time not suitable for our toddler but fine for us. In terms of the ‘dreaded’ seaweed. There was a lot on our first day, but following on from that it was hit and miss - you could see it on the horizon but no where near as bad as I was expecting. We did use the webcams for the beaches during our stay. Hopefully you will get lucky and see turtles hatching!!! Out and about: We prebooked car hire from the UK and used Stoute’s car - they were great and dropped the car off and collected from the hotel. We had a car for three days. Could have maybe done with it for a day more to allow us to go back to beaches etc There are two supermarkets within walking distance of the hotel. Massy had better selection. Both I believe offer a shuttle back to your hotel. We found food shopping to be very expensive. We enjoyed walking down to Rockley and then across to the boardwalk so the toddler could run and be ‘Free’. Due to having a double buggy we walked most places - and though at times the paths were a challenge on the whole we managed. Overall: We loved the hotel. Staff super friendly. Felt safe around the hotel and area in general. We found the island very expensive so ate in probably more than we were expecting. We took some basic supplies from home so would recommend that (spices, condiments, squash etc). A friend had recommended this hotel and we were not disappointed. I would recommend. Read less

Bed is good and firm. The kitchen is nicely appointed with all that is needed. Bathroom is fine with nice shower. The balcony is really great for good views of the ocean and beach. There are beach chairs/lounges but not too many and the beach is shared with the Blue Orchid hotel so sometimes you will not be able to get a beach chair/lounge. There is a restaurant across the street and a number just a short walk to Accra beach. Good value in a central location on south coast. Read less

Beautiful comfee space, not a five star hotel but surely clean and well kept. It is right on the beach so getting up to the sound of gentle waves is all you need to enhance your morning mood. The staff are all very helpful and friendly.
