Coral Mist & Blue Orchids Hotels

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

This modern resort is split into two hotels and occupies 300 ft of south coast beachfront. It doesn't matter which hotel you stay in, as you are free to use the facilities at both. This means you can enjoy two swimming pools, an oceanfront restaurant and, of course, a selection of complimentary non-motorised water sports along the lovely white sand beach. Coral Mist and Blue Orchids Hotels have the added advantage of being only a 5-minute drive from the shops, bars and restaurants of the lively St Lawrence Gap.

The rooms are clean, the service is great and as a local I must say that I'm consistently taken back by the service of Nioka the receptionist. Not only does she go out of her way to accommodate any request she truly seems genuine in her interations. Coral Mist is a nice facility but what makes it pleasent are the friendly smiles and work ethic of the staff. Read less

Coral mist is on the beach. Announced as a 3 star hotel, it in in reality worth only 2 star. Basic place to stay. Near an extremely busy road. No real comfort. Whe booked 6 months in advance ... when we arrived they told us the hotel was overbooked and we had to stay in their sisterhotel Blue Orchid.

Fantastic location on the beach. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Clean linen every 3rd day, fresh towels whenever you want, beach towels supplied. Reggie the concierge great character and also helpful. Generally this hotel is 'tired round the edges' and could do with a makeover. A coat of paint and upgrading the bathrooms is really needed and the self catering facilities in the kitchens are pretty dire. The cooker looked as if it had been rescued from the dump. There is a small restaurant but we didn't use it. On the positive .... this is a very good value 3 star hotel with a 5 star location. You literally step off the terrace onto the beach, Good beds with decent cushions. We had no problem getting a bed at anytime of the day and never had to go out early to reserve a bed. In fact the policy of moving towels off beds that were not in use was used so anyone who tried it on quickly got the message. There are several places to eat within a 5 to 15 minute walk. Bus stop right outside the hotel if you want to go further afield. Read less

This hotel has a lot of plus points. Not least it's situation near a beautiful beach. My wife and I stayed for 14 nights. We booked a deluxe studio. The website show photos of great ocean views from the studio rooms. The description reads "Very airy and spacious. Overlooking the white sandy beach and deep blue ocean. Private patio" On arrival, we were allocated a 4th-floor room with a building between our balcony and the sea. (see my photos) We were very disappointed as the one thing we were looking forward to was sitting on a private balcony and taking in the beach and sea. The lift was out of action. After a fair amount of persistence, the next day we were offered a ground floor room. This was one room away from the bar/restaurant. Problems here included noisy staff at 7 in the morning, shouting and banging stuff around as they prepared breakfasts. Our room, 105, had a very public pato. People walked by all day long, some wanting to talk, others just looking in. The view was poor too. The room was ok, a bit tired and no one could call the bathroom sparkling clean. The bed was very comfy, fresh towels every day and good wi-fi. It was lucky we were woken early as it was necessary to claim beach sunbeds and an umbrella as they put out around 7.30 to 8 am. I hated being reduced to such tactics. There were 12 beach umbrellas in total for the two hotels, about 60 rooms. The beach is lovely and was always clean. The staff are friendly. The pool is smallish but clean. Whilst the hotel's situated one an amazing beach the area around is very scruffy with horrendous pavements. My advice is to not leave the hotel on foot in the dark due to the poor pavements. Not only are the pavements uneven and potholed, but in many places, they are very narrow (single file only) and one trip could take you into the very busy road. If we could be sure of getting a decent room we would stay again, However the hotel will not take bookings for specific rooms. Blue Orchids, the sister hotel will do. Overall very poor value. We could have stayed at a much better hotel for the price had we not wanted a sea view. Read less
