Coral Mist & Blue Orchids Hotels

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

This modern resort is split into two hotels and occupies 300 ft of south coast beachfront. It doesn't matter which hotel you stay in, as you are free to use the facilities at both. This means you can enjoy two swimming pools, an oceanfront restaurant and, of course, a selection of complimentary non-motorised water sports along the lovely white sand beach. The complex has the added advantage of being only a 5-minute drive from the shops, bars and restaurants of the lively St Lawrence Gap.

We booked this trip via virgin and didn’t know if we would be allocated coral mist hotel or blue orchids hotel. Both hotels are adjoined and facilities are shared. The beach is in front of coral mist hotel. Previous reviews have said that there is no problem with sunbeds, they are plentiful and the beach man will always find you a chair. This is not our experience. All beds are reserved by 830 in the morning. Some people don’t arrive until lunchtime, despite Notices saying that towels will be removed after 20 minutes of no use. The man on the beach only appears at 8:00 to put the beds out and then at 5:30 to tell you to get off the bed because he’s putting them away. There are other beds around the properties, some in the trees, but those around the pool have no shade and no parasols. This is a shame because this hotel is in a good location, has good kitchen facilities in each room and is comfortable. Yes, it is tired, but it does what it says on the tin. Read less

Great beachside location. You are on the beach with the waves 5 meters away. Good value room overlooking quite white sandy beach. Restaurant Menu basic but again good value and did the trick when needed. Staff very friendly. Walkable to the shops, restaurants and bars at the Gap and other adjacent beaches if you fancied a change.

I stayed at the Coral Mist for 10 nights arriving on New Years Day check in was easy and I thought all was good in the world until I got to our room B106 which is situated right next to the bar which as an area for outside dining and one of the tables as an unobstructed view straight in to the room so every time you get changed you have to close the curtains. I went to reception and was told the hotel was 100% full and I would have to go back the following day which I did and was offered a room with a view straight at a brick wall so we decided to stay in B106 because to be fair it was virtually right on the beach . The other problem with that room is the bar staff arrive at 6-15am and let everyone know they are there not giving a second thought that someone might be asleep next door I had to call reception to ask them to keep the noise down . Back to the hotel in general it’s a bit tired but nothing bad rooms cleaned every day and laundry changed daily. Sinita on front desk very helpful and Reggie the tour organiser a real gentleman who managed to get my sunglasses back for me after leaving them in our hire car . The great thing about the hotel is the beach it’s just beautiful and Andre the beach attendant can’t do enough for you . All in all a great holiday apart from the room noisy staff early in the morning. Read less

I recently stayed here for two nights after many years absence. Not much has changed. Terrific staff and clean accommodation. It was lovely to return for another visit. Food very good in the restaurant.
