Rostrevor Apartment Hotel

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

Oozing island charm, this bijou beauty has just 79 rooms but packs in plenty of reasons as to why it deserves a visit. Inspired by its stunning waterfront location, just a stroll from the heart of St Lawrence Gap with its great bars, restaurants and nightlife, Rostrevor Apartment Hotel features just enough turquoise touches to remind you the ocean’s right outside — in fact, every guestroom looks out over it. If you want to get even closer, the swimming pool sits a few mere metres from the ocean, on a bluff-like perch that creates absorbing views as you swim and sunbathe. An equally alluring sunbathing spot, the secluded sands of Rostrevor Beach fringe the hotel. The pool’s paired with one of the hotel’s two eateries, the Almond Tree Pool Bar, so you can dine in casual comfort during the day, before heading to the other restaurant, The Harlequin, for International food with Caribbean flair for a delicious evening meal.

We chose to stay at this hotel for one final night in Barbados having flown in from St. Vincent and before our flight back to UK. It was well located and surrounded by lots bars and restaurants and it was reasonably priced. Upon arrival I was slightly disappointed as it did seem like a motel and wasn't like any other accommodation we had stayed in but we reminded ourselves that it was only for one night. I think if it had been more I would have been quite disappointed but it did the job. We paid for a deluxe room and I'm so glad that we paid for the upgrade which I don't think was very much but well worth it. We walked past the superior rooms which looked okay but the standard rooms looked more like old style Butlins. The corridor leading to the room felt more hostel like. Once in the room (217) it was okay. The kitchen facilities were fine, the furniture was new and the bed was comfortable. The sea view was incredible. I thought it was a little odd that there was a sign on the washing up liquid bottle to say it cost $2 to refill! The bathroom was fine and it looked like the shower area had been updated although the high window goes out to the corridor (you need to make sure the wooden slats are closed at night to minimise noise and you should also shut your bathroom door). There are no toiletries provided apart from soap but there is a hairdryer. We were about to put our passports in the safe before heading out for dinner and couldn't quite work out why it was locked. A quick phone call down to reception and we were told that you had to pay $5 per day for the safe. I can't quite remember the last time I ever paid for a safe! The plugs are US here. There is a TV and good Wi-Fi. It's a great location for The Gap but then you do have to remember it is going to be a little bit noisier although we had no problems sleeping (we stayed on a Thursday night and there was music going on at the Jamm Inn). Do make sure you stop by at Sharky's opposite. The staff are really lovely and the cocktails are good value. The communal areas at the hotel seemed fine. The pool is one which you step up to and it overlooks the sea. The restaurant is probably a little bit in need of a revamp. We did spot a shower room which you could use to get ready if you have a late flight back (check out is at 12 pm). This is nearby the restaurant and looks like it's been newly decorated and seems fine. The service here was basic. I think it was probably a little bit of a shock after where we had just come from. Upon arrival the receptionist did book our transfer back to the airport which was great ($20 fare back to the airport although it's $16 to get here although this was the same for both of our Barbados stops). However, we bumped into another couple who were heading back at the same time and when we spoke with another lady to try and arrange a joint transfer this seemed far too much trouble. Just before checkout, we returned to our room at 11 am to get ready for the airport and to pack, and found that our room had been cleaned and a man was fixing the air conditioning. Apparently a mistake had been made but we just found it a little odd. The best service we encountered was from the lovely Verna in the restaurant who took time to speak with us. We were staying room only but did go out for breakfast at Bliss (near to the entrance of Sandals Barbados) and would certainly recommend this. The overall summary is you get what you pay for. It was fine for a night but we wouldn't stay for longer. It perhaps depends on what you're used to as we know friends who have stayed here for longer and they loved it. Read less

We just got back from the Rostrevor. We have been coming here for about 10 years. I called at least 3 times and specifically requested a room in the 'new' building (Deluxe). After a long flight. we arrived to be taken to our 2nd floor room in the older part. This was not what I had requested. Joan at the front desk was useless and had a very poor… Read more

Joan at the front desk was useless and had a very poor attitude..lacking Customer service skills and Jennifer was at fault for not giving us the room we requested. We were very disappointed with how this was handled but our room was sufficient as it turned out. Usually we would give this a 5 star rating as we love the Rostrevor but between Joan and Jennifer, it put a negative feel on our stay. Read less

First time at the Rostrevor Hotel, loved it! We booked a pool deck room on the ground floor which was quite dark but people loved them. The staff couldn’t do enough for you two front desk ladies Natalie and Rhyesha were amazing even going so far as booking reservations for dinner for me at the Harliquin Restaurant and making sure we were looked after with a couple of calls ensuring everything was ok with our room and if we required a taxi. Thank you ladies much appreciated. Nothing like watching the turtles swimming from your sun bed. Will visit again, no wonder people were booking to go back whilst they were already there! Read less

Rostrevor is located right in the centre of the St Lawrence Gap , nice clean Hotel , nice pool & access to a little Beach / Cove. Night time noise is definitely a problem if your a light sleeper but did not affect my stay . I would return to Rostrevor again .

We stayed here for a week from 9th March and have nothing but praise for the accommodation and the staff. The room (517) was spotless with wonderful views of the sea. We celebrated our Silver Wedding during the week and the room was decorated and a complimentary bottle of wine provided, without any prompt from us. The maid saw the cards and did the rest. What a wonderful surprise. We returned as we had celebrated our honeymoon in Barbados. It won’t be 25 years before we return and we will definitely be returning to this hotel. Read less
