Rostrevor Apartment Hotel

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

Oozing island charm, this bijou beauty has just 79 rooms but packs in plenty of reasons as to why it deserves a visit. Inspired by its stunning waterfront location, just a stroll from the heart of St Lawrence Gap with its great bars, restaurants and nightlife, Rostrevor Apartment Hotel features just enough turquoise touches to remind you the ocean’s right outside — in fact, every guestroom looks out over it. If you want to get even closer, the swimming pool sits a few mere metres from the ocean, on a bluff-like perch that creates absorbing views as you swim and sunbathe. An equally alluring sunbathing spot, the secluded sands of Rostrevor Beach fringe the hotel. The pool’s paired with one of the hotel’s two eateries, the Almond Tree Pool Bar, so you can dine in casual comfort during the day, before heading to the other restaurant, The Harlequin, for International food with Caribbean flair for a delicious evening meal.

Wonderful, comfortable, no-frills hotel with beautiful sea views from the property. I found the hotel to be perfect as a base due to its great location. If you plan to go out and around the area, then this place is great. You can walk to all areas, bars, restaurants around St Lawrence Gap from this hotel. You can also easily walk to the beautiful Dover Beach - all just a few minutes down the road. It’s also within walking distance of the Worthing area which is nice if you leave the Gap, and here there is another beach, as well as a few bars, supermarkets, and some places to eat. The supermarkets around this area are cheaper than the convenience store that is in The Gap. There’s also a bus stop just outside the gap entrance/road and you can get a bus to Bridgetown for around $3.50 BBD. There is also parking outside of the hotel, if you hire a car. There are plenty of places to get food in the local area. You can enjoy the various restaurants around The Gap area. The prices can be high but it all depends on your budget and what you are looking for out of your holiday. There are also various street food locations to enjoy local food which is cheaper as well as places towards the beach area selling local dishes. There’s a couple of fast food places down the road outside of The Gap as well. If you head out of the Gap you can visit the supermarket which is about 5-10 mins walk to stock up on supplies. The room itself was clean, of a good size and the kitchenette was extremely useful to have. The bathroom was a good size, just beware the shower doesn’t have a shower curtain or door, it is quite open. The housekeepers attended to the room very well and ensured it was kept clean. The gym was small but very adequate with good equipment, and conveniently located if you are on the upper floor. You just need to obtain the key for it from reception to access it. It was not really being used so was able to have it to myself. For anyone with any issues with stairs, there is a lift/elevator to the upper levels. The small beach on the hotel property was nice and had a private feel, but the sea was a little rough around this area during my time there due to some storms out at sea. I would definitely recommend packing your stuff and heading to Dover beach a few mins down the road. It’s very close so is nice if you are going for quick dip or to spend the day. There is also several places to find food near the beach. Sadly, the restaurant was not open due to renovations, so I did not get to experience breakfast or dining at the hotel. The pool was also closed on some days and I did not get to use this facility as I was not around on the days it was open. As reflected in many of the comments, I did experience sound within the room at night due to the noise outside – to be honest I only heard karaoke in the distance on most evenings. The most noise experienced was the sound from the club on the Friday/Saturday night. It was loud but it didn’t disturb my sleep very much. In fact, I personally didn’t mind it because it was just a buzz and vibe from the streets in the surrounding area, which is a part of Bajan and Caribbean life, and for me it blended into the background along with the sound of the waves of the ocean just outside of the room. I understand people’s comments though and would say from experience that you must remember that everyone is different. Some can sleep through noises of various levels, and others can’t. I would say if you are sensitive to noise at night or you are looking for a tranquil and peaceful location, then choose another hotel a lot further down The Gap towards the eastern side, or in another area away from any clubs and bars. All in all I would definitely stay here again. It was a perfect location as a base to visit the local area as well as explore Barbados. Read less

I gave this hotel 3 out of 5 because of the hotel room, I had a hard time locking the door as I was coming and going, I guess that might be just me but anyway the room itself was a nice size and very comfortable, the restaurant was very small and only serviced breakfast and lunch, the patio area was ok, nothing great. I found myself eating next door at the South Gap where the food was better and slightly cheaper. Now the mean reason for my visit was Cropover. Where do I begin, it was Fabulous. I went by myself and had a time of my life. Yes yes yes it is safe to go to Barbados, even for single women. Just be smart and wise. The people their are sooo helpful and friendly I can't wait to go back. Read less

Our Family stayed in one of the “Deluxe Ocean Front Studios” for 2 weeks. Room was of good size and well equipped\maintained. Serviced daily by extremely cheerful\friendly Cleaning Staff (“Mavis” was brilliant). Grounds also well maintained with an adequate sized Pool. Location of the Hotel is also very good as on exiting left from the building you have the busier part of “St Lawrence Gap” (Restaurants, Bars ec – Recommend “Crave” and “Café Soul”) and to the right it is quieter but still with a good offering of Bars and Restaurants (Recommend “Pronto” and “Daddy’s Place”). The people of Barbados are extremely friendly, it is very safe both at night and day to go exploring the island. On exiting the “Rostrevor” to the right, across from “Pure Ocean” is a Tour Excursion Kiosk that is of good value with a wide selection of Trips (Would highly recommend the Island Jeep Safari Tour and the Kayak Boat Cruse). Only criticism of the “Rostrevor” is that the prices at the Pool Bar for Refreshments are high compared to other places in the area (a discounted price for those staying at the Rostrevor would be welcomed). Other than that we would highly recommend the “Rostrevor” and hope that one day our Family will visit again. Read less

Arrived Tues 16 July, departed Wed 25 July, very clean, staff very friendly and helpful, kitchen had everything we needed, daily maid, pool very clean, the only problem was there is no beach, the nearest is about 8 minute walk, but the beach is great and safe for children, will definitely go back.
