The hotel

Oozing island charm, this bijou beauty has just 79 rooms but packs in plenty of reasons as to why it deserves a visit. Inspired by its stunning waterfront location, just a stroll from the heart of St Lawrence Gap with its great bars, restaurants and nightlife, Rostrevor Apartment Hotel features just enough turquoise touches to remind you the ocean’s right outside — in fact, every guest room looks out over it. If you want to get even closer, the swimming pool sits a few mere metres from the ocean, on a bluff-like perch that creates absorbing views as you swim and sunbathe. An equally alluring sunbathing spot, the secluded sands of Rostrevor Beach fringe the hotel. The pool’s paired with one of the hotel’s two eateries, the Almond Tree Pool Bar, so you can dine in casual comfort during the day, before heading to the other restaurant, The Harlequin, for International food with Caribbean flair for a delicious evening meal.

Arrived to a very frosty reception. Reception Staff Rude, Unhelpful and very unfriendly. Room not ready, had to wait approx 2 hours to get our accommodation. We had our 88 year old mother with us and her room wasn’t ready either. We had been travelling for 18 hours and we were exhausted. The reception staff said in a loud voice “She and He complaining that their room isn’t ready” which we found to be extremely rude and unprofessional. We eventually gained entry to our room which was flooded from the air conditioning unit, dripping in 3 places at the rate of 1 drip a second. To be fair they called out the maintenance man who fixed it within the hour. When we had a rain storm both mums and our rooms flooded we had to put towels at the French doors and mums bathroom Louvre window. The swimming pool was dirty around the edges, with a band aid stuck to the deep end floor for 2 weeks and didn’t move. Cleaning solution was added to the pool in the mornings and swooshed about and that was it. I stood on something sharp in the shallow end which was a rusted cable tack. The swimming pool is rusting in places on the floor area. Mums beside side lamp faulty and not working. Our digital clock unreadable so I unplugged and plugged in again, still didn’t work it was replaced and only to be told by cleaner that all I needed to do was plug it in to make it work. The phones didn’t work in our rooms for 2 weeks, couldn’t contact family on the island unless we went to reception to use their phone which stopped them receiving calls. We managed to make around 3 calls internally to each others room but had a number of calls cut off by reception staff. Reception staff admitted to cutting the call by accident. At one point of disconnection the male staff member said he would go and find out what happened to the phone call only to hear him in the background having a totally different conversation with other staff and never came back to us on the phone. Bar service only open till 6pm and food only served till 2.30 in the afternoon. The bar staff Verna and Mark were incredible so helpful and worth their weight in gold.. also Joel the luggage man was so lovely. When we came to check out we were told by reception staff that we owed a balance of over 200 dollars in front of other guests. We were told that we had had 2 fish suppers plus other items which is strange because we only ate in 3’s I.e mum, me and my hubby. We had paid all our bar bills and resultant bills as soon as we ordered, but the reception staff disagreed and phoned off duty/on holiday staff to confirm this. Reception staff were assured by the bar staff (Mark and Verna) that we defiantly didn’t owe any outstanding bill. We will return to Barbados as it is the home of my family but will never stay at Rostrevor Hotel again. P.s rooms looking a bit tired and could do with a touch of TLC. Also TV’s never worked properly always very fuzzy and most of the time unable to see with clarity. Forgot to say other guests were complaining in the background about vehicles hired through the hotel and rooms not being ready. I hope this review is helpful. This review is a true reflection of our visit. Read less

We booked here at short notice after having to evacuate our previous accommodation as it was not fit for human habitation. We were pleased to arrive and find clean, well equipped accommodation. We had an ocean front suite on the ground floor which was perfect. Well equipped kitchenette, powerful hot shower, large comfy bed, and just a few steps away from the pool and the ocean. The bar service was good, with a happy hour from 12-1pm. Right in the thick of it in St Lawrence Gap so good if you’re the party people. Also just a short walk up to the main road to catch the bus. No need to pay for late check out as there is bag storage and showering facilities so we checked out at 12, sunbathed until 4 then showered and left for the airport, perfect. Read less

First impressions, the reception, looks professional, however once I received the key it went rapidly down hill. The door was a key operated, rather shabby with a number on a piece of slate to the left of the door. The kitchen was narrow and had very few pieces of equipment, ie no scissorsm no breakfast bowls. Only a frying pan and two handled pan. The utentils were plastic and buckled in hot water. The cupboards smelt damp and I felt i wanted to clean before I used anything. The television was poor, sometimes worked and then limited channels, best take your netflick details to access films. The bathroom is small with a small step to enter the shower, there is a hook on the back of the door, but nowhere for it to hook to. The beds are firm with adequate lighting. Safe was broken, so we had to change locations of our passports and money regularly in the room. Across the road was clubs and pubs, and it was very noisy on Friday and Saturday, closed the bathroom door but still could not get back to sleep. We used a USB cable in the back of the tv to charge phones, you need to include your plugs and cable to charge. We had the lower floor and could step out onto the green level before going to the beach, this is ideal, however there is no numbering on these doors to get to your room. I have a very clean and tidy home, and I felt the room we stayed in, could use a good cleaning, ie skirting boards, lampshades, grout in tiles, the room is grubby and not well maintained. The ceiling looked as though it was wiped over as there were smudges of different strokes of white and grey, the two pictures hanging on the wall, one with glass the other without and hung upside down. I am not picky but it just wasnot clean enough! The lounge area is limited, I would suspect in the high season it would be the reserve loungers with towels. The breakfast is served in the Almond Restaurant next door, this is very limited, there is no cereal on the menu. Need to sign a small book for the almond restaurant to submit to the hotel for payment. The beach is lovely, can walk out onto soft white sand, however there is no lifeguard on duty. The pool on the complex is very short, approx 15m in length, the deepest part approx 6ft and the shallow end 2 ft. I never saw a member of staff cleaning the pool, although a sign was displayed. The gym in the complex is very narrow and any more than 3 people it will be crowded. There is a treadmill, cross trainer, 2 x exercise bikes, dumbells at different sizes and a few pieces of machinery. If a person is using dumbells, there is no room to exercise without getting the way of other people. Tend to think it was a last min idea without any thought. Would I come back, NO. I felt it was very poor in need of good clean and up date. Read less
