We arrived with high expectations due to the reviews we've read and folks we know who have gone before us to other Sandals resorts. We vacation every year at different locations but this was our first Sandals. Overall the resort was nice, clean and convenient. Having the 2 properties right next to each other was great with easy access to either Sandals Barbados or Royal Barbados. Before going we thought it might be weird going between the 2 resorts but its run as though the 2 are 1 and we liked that a lot. The pools were nice and the activities during the day were plenty to keep us busy, even though our primary focus was to relax and take it slow. Our other positive was the food. Of all the meals we had over 8 days there we each had 1 meal, at most, that we would have deemed bad but thats because not everyone likes everything and we get that. Where our experience sours is on the service level side. Many times over the course of the week we felt forgotten. Wether it was ordering soda water for our room, which took 2 days to get, or being the first to order breakfast at Portofinos and watching 6 other tables receive their meals before us before we decided to get breakfast somewhere else. We just didn't feel the resort was genuine when they stated "welcome home" upon our arrival. We spent 90% of our time by or in the pool. Over that time, all week, we were asked only 1 time by a server if they could get us a drink. There were other times we ordered drinks at dinner or breakfast that we had to ask twice to make sure it was coming because it took so long. With room service we were told we would receive our items in 30 minutes and waited over an hour. I can state more instances but it would only sound like rambling. Bottom line is this, manage your expectations and you may be happier. Many of those we fraternized with have been to many other locations and say the service is far better. That being the case we are willing to try another location and are looking at St. Lucia Grand for next year. Hope its just as nice with much better service. Read less

Booked a week honeymoon in barbados. The first night realized the room wasnt real clean, no big deal. Then woke up sweating because the air conditioner wasnt working great. Called and had ac tech look at it to no avail. Never cooked below 75 if I could guess. Called again and again try to get it fixed or room moved, every request was ignored. Then… Read more

Then found ants all over the couch. They did spray for them, then we found more all over the mini bar. Bathroom was not cooled at all and was hard to get ready because lights heated it up so much. The actual resort was spectacular and everyone else were pleasant to be around. 2 stars because of the horrible room and being ignored by management. Read less

This was our first trip to Barbados but not to a Sandals resort. First impressions the reception/lobby was nothing special, they didn’t even have a bar area. We were shown to the concierge lounge to check-in, having checked in online the process was quick, we only had to give a few signatures. We were then shown to our rooms, they were excellent and spotlessly clean. There was a mini bar in the room however, it was only stocked with beers, soft drinks and water. We were told that if you wanted wine or spirits we had to fill-in a card and take it to the concierge lounge on a daily basis, it begs the question, what are we paying club level for. We never bothered with room service, because club sandwiches and burgers are not my choice of food, the menu was not exactly gourmet as advertised on the website. We stayed on the Royal side, I could not quite grasp why it quantifies the additional cost, because basically the Barbados and Royal are one large resort, in fact apart from the infinity pool the Barbados side was better for socialising. If you didn’t want to drink at the sky bar there is nowhere to have a drink on the Royal side, potentially you could use lover’s lane piano bar, if you wanted to be drowned out by the noise of the bowling alley. The outside entertainment only had waitress service on one occasion and we were there for 2 weeks, we had to go to Lovers lane to get our drinks. A big grievance was the preferential treatment guests with butlers got, okay they might pay extra for the privilege, but if the hotel states no towels on the sun loungers before 7 am, you don’t expect the butlers to have booked all the best loungers around the pool and the beach before 6.30 am. We had trouble booking some of the restaurants and when you do eventually get in, the tables are half empty. On one occasion, we tried to book Butchers Steak and Seafood and were told that the only time available was 9.30, which was too late for us, the following day we then heard a couple with a butler that had arrived that day booking it for 8 o’clock on the same day we tried to book, so they are obviously retaining tables for the butler guests, which is totally wrong. It would be better if they stopped with the reservations system, that way it’s first come first served, it seems to work without problem at Excellence resorts. The food on the whole was very good, with plenty of choice we love the a la carte concept, which is one of the main reasons we choose Sandals, although on one occasion a group of 6 of us went to Butchers and our meals were like a heart attack on a plate, with the amount of salt used, so much so I could eat mine. The staff around the resort were amazing couldn’t do enough for you, special shout out to Nickolette at the infinity pool. Read less
