We just arrived at Sandals Barbados yesterday from Montreal on our honeymoon / husbands birthday. (Of to which we got no upgrade for, a first for us when it comes to a big celebration. Iberostar automatically upgraded us on our engagement trip) Unfortunate as even our tv is half broken (attached is a picture). Half the TVS backlight is not functioning. So far the experience has been EXCRUCIATING when it comes to patience. If you want to eat any sort of food get ready to wait an hour for your order! I’ve never been so hungry at a resort. Also for reservations at restaurants it’s SO ridiculous!!!! At the desk they were offering us only very late 9 pm reservations and the first two days we are here it was fully booked. I had to beg to have a place to eat for tomorrow. I’ve been to MANY resorts, this is the first time this has ever happened to me. It was a disappointment after being so excited and checking the website constantly for the reservation restaurants we wanted to visit. Not to mention check in takes about a 45 minutes to wait on the bus to finally get going to the hotel (although the bus driver Riccardo was so awesomely and informative!), then over another hour just to get your room (going on the iPad, being the last to finally get checked to the room). After 13 hours of traveling since 3 am, we were ready to lose our minds with the slow pace of the resort. I must say though, the beach is SPECTACULAR!!!! The sand is SO SOFT!! Not to mention The staff are really nice and friendly! :) honestly the resort itself is really beautiful and fun! The pools are so nice and big! Would have been nice to get an upgrade since we were celebrating big events, oh well. The only huge con is the waiting and waiting and everything just taking so long. Considering we paid much more than usual to enjoy the Sandals experience, I’m finding myself just constantly wasting time waiting for one thing after another. Where as you go to any other resort (such as iberostar grand) you don’t have to worry about waiting. Perhaps sandals Barbados/royal Barbados is understaffed. However, I must give special shoutouts so far to Joy from Spices restaurant! She is AMAZING and is the only top notch service I’ve received so far. As my new husband says, it was a joy to meet Joy! I MUST point out about how Schooners has a GREAT food , but the WORST PACE SERVICE you can imagine! We waited over 1.5 hours to get a table then waited another 45 minutes to finally get served. We even missed the white party because of this! :( It takes FOREVER to get a drink. Literally. Everyone sitting next to me at the 3 bars we went to tells us how they’ve been waiting way too long. Nothing here Is immediate. However, the drinks ARE amazing! Just not worth the wait. What sandals need to work on is definitely their speed. I feel like sandals should let their guests tip to somewhat encourage the people working to go faster. It’s a huge issue. Something that I’ve NEVER experienced before at the numerous resorts that I’ve been to. Hopefully the rest of our stay will provide faster service and a more enjoyable experience! My husband and I were looking extremely forward to visiting a sandals resort and unfortunately at this rate, we won’t be visiting another sandals anytime soon nor would we recommend it to others. Great spot to get away from the hustle and bustle and relax. There is really no need to leave the hotel campus (Sandals Royal Barbados is essentially next door, steps away) as they have everything one can think of to maintain all types of entertainment. From the roof top bar to bowling alley to beach, all are top notch. Excellent food and drink… Read more

Mini bar included open liquor bottles (one which was previously used). We paid extra for the mini bar, and didn't use it. We also paid extra for room service, but it ends at 10pm, so we only used it for breakfast a few times. Our anniversary wasn't acknowledged, although I put it on the reservation, and had to email my marriage license in order to get a discount. A couple of days they forgot to restock our fridge. I could go on and on about my in room experience. Also, it would've been nice at checkin to be informed that you should book dinner reservations asap. We arrived Sunday afternoon, called Monday to make reservations and everything was booked until Friday and Saturday. Luckily we were there for 7 days or we would've missed out on those particular restaurants. If I return to this location I guess I would need to book the butler room. Read less

My husband and I just got back last night from spending 7 nights to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. This was a BIG vacation for us and we were very excited to go to an amazing 5 star resort. We arrived at the airport and found our shuttle easily. The bus driver, Ricardo, was super friendly and funny. He made the ride enjoyable. we arrived at the resort and we welcomed nicely by a lemongrass towel, a song and a rum drink. They separated all of us to different locations, had us fill out our info, put a $400 deposit on a credit card and then someone showed us around the resort and eventually to our room. The room was nice, updated and clean. Mini fridge didn't get drinks cold. A/c wouldn't go below 68 which was still warm during the night. Overall, the room was nice. We were warned by our friends that had went a few month prior that we needed to make our dinner reservations ASAP when we arrive to ensure we would get one. Well, the reservation desk closes at 4pm and we arrived after that time, so no dinner reservations for day one. The next morning we were able to go make a few reservations. Some places had NO reservation times left for the WEEK. That was a little frustrating. Come to find out, if you have a private butler they book those for you before you get there making it impossible for those who don't have a butler to eat at the nicer restaurants. Overall food was just ok. Hit or miss. Over the week, we met several other guest that expressed the same opinion. I will say that Kimonos was a great time! Chris, our cook was very fun and friendly. Soy was good and fast service. Thats it. Bars. Bar service was AWFUL!!! Took forever to get a drink, IF you could even get the bartenders attention. When you did finally get their attention, they would look at you with a blank stare. They never spoke to us first, never asked how we were doing, if we were having a good time, if they could get us a drink! Horrible customer service. This was across the board for the whole resort. Service was awful! Many guest that we met expressed the same experience. It was always as if we were bothering them. I do have to give Rodney at the skybar and Sherice at the royal swim up bar credit. They were the only two employees that we encountered during the 7 days that went out of their way to be friendly and actually speak to you. The service at Spices for breakfast was awful. Every morning I would have to search for someone to bring me silverware and a drink. Cats (plural) swarmed my chair the last morning waiting for food to fall and birds eating off plates at the table next to us. Disgusting. However, Anthony at the omelet station was great! Very friendly. I wasn't feeling well one night so my husband went to get me something to each from the Mary Monkey. They told him he can't take food to go until after 10pm!!!!! I guess had we had a private butler then he could have gotten it to go. The spa. I made an appointment with a spa employee that came up to me at the pool. She asked what time and day. I said 10:00 on Saturday. Luckily, I walked to check out the spa on Friday to find out my appointment was made for 9am. They told me to arrive at 8:45 so I could change and fill out paperwork. I arrived approximately 8:40, filled out my paper and sat. Then about 9:00, 20 mins later the girl told me my appointment is for 9:15, would I like to get changed. she took me back to the locker room and told me she would be back in a few mins, 30 mins later she still hadn't come to get me. I waited almost ONE HOUR and then went and asked them what was going on. At that time someone finally came back to get me. We were also excited about the "karaoke" nights. Well, the first night the karaoke dj was over an hour late. The second night when we asked what time karaoke was, the employee of Mary monkey responded "I don't know, it depends if the dj shows up, sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't". WOW! This "amazing resort" can't hire a dependable entertainer? I will say that Dale in the piano bar was great! Dario, also did an impromptu sing a long and was AMAZING! Pools were nice, but mid day all the towels were gone. The property is beautiful, but service and quality is horrible!!! If you read reviews about friendly and great service, they likely had their own butler. This was our first and likely last experience with Sandals. Spend your money elsewhere! We have went on several Carnival Cruises, cheap, bottom of the line and our service was WAY better than this so called 5 star resort. Read less
