When we arrived the room was stocked with our requested items and we had given them a list of restaurants we wanted to try and asked to eat at either 6 or 6:30. They had the entire week of dinners organized when we arrived. Our breakfast arrived on time every morning, which we appreciated because it meant we could enjoy breakfast before heading to the dive boat. When we arrived back at the resort after diving we texted our butlers our lunch order and they brought it to our room. They were always available and responded quickly to our requests. We also appreciated their promptness when taking us to dinner or in the morning before getting on the dive boat. Our room was never out of water, Diet Coke or Chardonnay. This was by far the best butler experience we’ve had at a Sandals resort. In addition, the staff on the dive boat was also amazing. I wish I remembered everyone’s name, but Tory, Ken, and Nikki did a great job of leading the dives. The locations they picked were full of life and we enjoyed them. Read less

Rachael was prompt getting us to meals and anything we requested and Nicola was like a mama bear looking out for us the whole time making sure we were taken care of. We would highly recommend this whole team. They were all great and made this like home. We stayed in one of the Rondovals and we had high expectations which were surpassed! If we weren’t at the beach, we were on our private patio taking a dip in our pool which was 4-1/2’ at its deepest. For food, we didn’t have a bad meal but our favorites were Bombay and Butchs. We were also here for Independence Day and the curry goat at the resort celebration was awesome!! Would love to come back!!! Read less

Overall we had a great time in Barbados – the island is beautiful and well worth visiting, however staying at the Royal Barbados we did experience the usual Sandals issues and thought it was worthwhile highlighting these to help anyone thinking about this hotel: So the GOOD – the hotel was clean and grounds were very nice, the room was spacious and the bottle of ‘champagne’ every day was unexpected. The beach was stunning and great for walks, and the sea was warm as a bath. Breakfast was especially good at the Greenhouse and the Oasis pool was really quiet and relaxing. Food was generally really good quality in most restaurants! There is enough variation with both hotels to not get bored (it’s easy to walk between the 2 and does actually feel like 1 hotel complex). Butch’s chophouse was amazing food and service (but you must book that one – don’t bother with Butch’s steakhouse at the Royal as this was terrible service and awful food). The bowling and games were also great fun and the water sports team were good taking out the hobie cats and giving lessons. The BAD – butlers (what is the point!!) do reserve the best spots at the pool and beach however you will usually get a space somewhere and some of the quieter pools always have sunbeds at any time. Some staff can be a bit rude and unfriendly, but not all. Cocktails and drinks are not always a consistent quality, and in the evening you can be served in warm plastic glasses, which we hate! The entertainment (when you get to see it – see below) feels a bit dated and is in need of some fresh thinking. The rooftop bar is not as glamorous as it seems – particularly in the evenings it completely lacks any atmosphere, no music, the lighting is stark and there are limited seats. Our snorkeling trip was cancelled twice due to a storm but no-one thought to let us know that – no call or even a simple note under the door, even though the re-booked it for us the next day as well. The ‘Club’ complimentary events, such as the martini night, were quite dull – location isn’t given on the planner so hardly anyone turned up – I did try and give some feedback on making it easier for others to attend, but was told that guests should call and find out (which obviously they don’t as people just want to see an easy to use planner – which by the way is on the TV menu and not advertised to guests). The UGLY – the hotel is marketed as ‘no reservations required’ for dinner but this is a real issue and actually can ruin your evening (you will miss any shows and potentially spend your whole evening dining) – you can turn up at 7pm and be told there is a waiting list, you then get sent off to a bar for an hour or so (so long that you think you’ve been forgotten about) and called when the table is ready. When this happens you are still usually eating at 9.30-10pm each night as the service is extremely slow everywhere, despite lots of empty tables which indicates a staff shortage. We spoke with a few people who also experienced this and were really annoyed (including a couple who waited 2 hours for their curry!). I would prefer to book everything and be able to make plans – surely an app can have a simple restaurant booking service each day. We found the Chi restaurant to be terrible – left at the bar for over an hour, then service was painfully slow, didn’t get what we ordered and then sushi turned up after dessert at 10pm. The unhappy faces throughout that place (and other restaurants) should tell management something! The daily vacation check-up advertised by guest services - we spent 10 nights and the entire trip had just 2 calls, when I stated about the dribble rain shower head that had 8 jets out of the 30 working and said my shower at home was better quality, was told oh ok and nothing was done. We have experienced 3 Sandals holidays now and this is middle ground – and if you like generic, mass market hotels with lots to do then this is a good option – however for this reason and seeing the same issues again we won’t be returning to any more Sandals resorts – there is no personality and the resorts are getting too big to cope - it just isn’t 5 star luxury as Sandals advertise regardless of the country you are in. My husband and I stayed at Sandal Royal Barbados for our honeymoon for 10 days. Our butlers Kevan, Shak, and Ron MADE our trip. They were extremely attentive, surprised us with treats and drawn bubble baths in our room, and fulfilled our every request. They were outstanding. We stayed in the the Millionaire swim up suite and it was GORGEOUS. We loved spending time out in our swim up pool and huge soaker tub on our patio outside and the one in our very large bathroom. The resort itself is large, clean, and well kept. The beach is very pretty but it is public so you do get people trying to sell you drugs, just say no they should leave you alone. The food was good, some restaurants are way better than others. our Fav restaurant by far was Bombay (we went twice and it was my husbands first time eating Indian food!) , and than La Persian, and Butches chop house. We did not like Tavern for dinner, it was not good overall service or food. The dinner service at these restaurants in general at the resort are on Island time (i get that) BUT the service was poor, it took forever to just get water sometimes or a refill on coffee in the morning at breakfast. They could do with more attentive staff or better training in service in general. Overall we LOVED our time at this resort and we would absolutely go back again. Our dream team of butlers on) really made our trip special and I hope they all get a big raise because they deserve it. Katie & Mike Read less
