So after jumping through hoops to have all the documents in order we show up at the resort. We have to get yet another COVID test just having 1 done 2 days earlier. Not a problem but they will not let you go to the beach only the pools until it comes back negative. Ridiculous! The pools were packed with limited seating. Now open air on the beach with plenty seats makes more sense, right? After 16 hr wait we finally got out of COVID JAIL and got the bands removed an was free to roam. I love the beach and I've been to Sandals over 60 stayed days. This beach was terrible! Not 1 Watersport to be done. No glass bottom boat, kayak, etc. The water was just wave after wave. I've been to Jamaica, St Lucia, Antigua etc and all water was smooth and clear. There was also seaweed every where. So if you like to just sit on a chair on the beach and not go out then this is your place. The beach isn't even close to a 1/4 mile long not to mention that Sandals only has 35 ft of said beach then the rest going towards the water is public. This means that all chairs remain on Sandals property on top of each other and I mean a hand shake away from each other. Asked for coffee for 2 days and towels then finally went to front desk to be told there was a "coffee shortage" but he was able to go get me some and a bag of more towels. Service was the slowest I've ever encountered with any Sandals and the staff didn't look happy to be there. I will say that the bar (not Royal side) located by the pool had the best service and always made conversation etc. Check out was a mess. 1st of all when we arrived we were shuttled to get the "test" then to our room. Got a bill in my door charging me almost $400 extra for not showing my military ID. I checked in on line and wasn't even asked of this. They said I would be getting this credit back on my card. I booked a day trip to go into town and shop and wasn't even informed that it was cancelled. We'll see soon if I get that credit back also. Check out was a mess. The system was down so an itemized bill couldn't be received but was told they would e-mail it. Been home 3 days and finally called to be told my balance and that was it. I stayed in the room facing the ocean overlooking the pool. It was always clean and the grounds were also very well groomed. If the beach were user friendly an we could have gotten to go out in the water other than the designated area. Even though it was "public" you got scolded for going outside the sandals area. in the ocean. I would have given this resort more stars. One last thing. If you go then go up to the 6th floor of the Blue building on the Royal side. It has a pool, hot tub, restaurant and bar. The views were amazing. Only knew of this place by word of mouth. Anyone can go up there. Read less

After a private arranged transfer from the airport we arrived expecting a bit of exclusivity (I don’t know why), but we’re ushered about and our room wasn’t ready even though it was after check in time. We tried to book some restaurants for our first night in particular and nothing available for five nights. Attitude from everybody we encountered within an hour was appalling and we heard several complaints going on, so what did we do without even seeing the room? About turn and luckily there was availability at the Sandy Lane, so we checked in for the week. A proper hotel. My advice to the hotel is, you never know who you are dealing with and message to those considering booking this place, DONT. I reimbursed the cost of this place to my girlfriend and she had no need to seek a refund. The old saying applied here “nothing is ever what it seems” Read less

We returned from Sandals royal Barbados in August and having read consistently negative reviews - felt the need to add my own review. Firstly we had a fantastic holiday, the room was amazing and the ground of the hotel were beautiful. Sure there were a few minor blips, but really nothing worth lingering onto or letting ruin your holiday! Check-in was easy. A few couples arrived at the same time, we were taken for our on-site Covid test and then for some food. After this we got a quick tour to the room and given the keys, soon after our baggage was taken up. Here is my first and most important tip. Book reservations as soon as you are checked in - like as soon as you’re given you’re key card. The lady at concierge told us she would book them all for us and drop off the reservation cards before the end of the shift. An hour or so later, 5 reservation cards came through the door. Easy. Apparently the booking schedule for restaurants is Saturday to Saturday, so those arriving mid-week may have had some issues booking, but then you should be able to book once the rota restarts. We had one very long wait for Bombay - but the food was fantastic and I think we picked a day when everyone showed up at the same time. Otherwise no waits for restaurants or breakfast if you get there early. Very simple solution to dealing with any wait times - get a drink from the bar 50m away and chill out. Food was excellent, butches was our favourite, Chi was our least favourite - but still okay. Breakfast at the Parisian restaurant was our favourite. Portions can be small - sometimes we ordered 3 mains. At the steakhouses this is definitely not needed, portions are huge. Sunbeds at the mainpool were an issue, but we didn’t like the main pool. Really loud tacky pop music - even though we are in our twenties and not averse to a party - it really was not a vibe. The south seas pool played some bangers, you could always get a lounger there and was generally a much nicer vibe, so we spent most of our time there. The service at all the bars and restaurants was great. No people don’t come up to you every 20 mins and ask if you want a drink - but that was fine with us. We’re not so lazy that we can’t walk 20m to get to the nearest bar. All the staff were friendly, polite and really helpful to us. We did see some rudeness from guests towards staff, which is totally unacceptable. We didn’t book the butler service and didn’t feel like we needed it. Our room was cleaned everyday and never had any issues with room service. The diving refresher is a bit of a rip off. I did complain about the price and got a discount. I think It was around $140. We had a fantastic holiday and would definitely come back in the future. We came to enjoy ourselves, relax and not let every little thing bother us. For all the bad reviews on here there’s probably hundreds of couples who had a fantastic time enjoying themselves and not complaining. If you’re keen to relax after 18 months of Covid, eat some great food and smash some pina coladas - book it! Read less

I have been back in the UK for 2 weeks now & just had to review. Should be 3.5 stars First time Sandals & I was expecting a holiday that would blow me away but unfortunately did not live up to my expectations We arrived after delayed flight & stuck on the runway at Barbados A very long travel day & I expected a drink at least My cold towel was swiftly taken away from me when I had barely patted it to my forehead We were told to go into Club Sandals then swiftly sent back to the sofas in Reception as there were too many people in the room Luckily someone saw fridges in the corner that had water We weren’t offered a drink until we eventually went into Club Sandals We were in a group of 5 couples with 1 member of staff & we were herded to get our pcr When we got back there were several couple saying they had been waiting an hour for their rooms & begging for the keys as they just wanted to rest To cut a long story short we were eventually told to go to a block of rooms 9 & wait It was apparent this was Azure building which I had had specifically asked Not to be put in due to traffic & dogs barking noise The staff member practically ran off when I said I wasn’t happy Never to be heard from again I fell asleep and woke up to barking dogs The room itself was beautiful but not good enough Luckily we were able to swap rooms but not a good start to the holiday & not a good first impression We had to wait for everything It’s true that unless you get up at the crack of dawn then you will not get an umbrella on the beach or a lounger by the main pools Yes everything you have heard about the butlers is true! Having said that there are enough sun loungers in quieter pools but you may not get an umbrella & for our skin is essential We managed to book the restaurants we wanted although later than ideal times All food was good but it didn’t impress me compared to other AI hotels we have visited We booked Butch’s Chophouse for our last night as I thought it would be the best It was not Starters came in a timely manner but we were waiting over an hour for mains Whereas a Butler couple who came in 45 mins after us had finished eating & I think this is what has angered me the most Every food outlet including pizza etc & bars prioritised the Butlers request Pizza was supposed to be 30 minutes wait Turned into 70 minutes As soon as a butler put their request in our order went down the list Butlers would also jump in the lifts with us & shout their instructions when there is supposed to be 2 to a lift Butlers rule! No offence to people who choose to have butler service but this should not be at the detriment of other guests The grounds are beautiful & the beach, if less crowded, would be perfect The sand is white & powdery All staff are working very hard but there are obviously not enough of them No staff had the time to make us feel special My illusions have been shattered about Sandals We paid £2k more for Sandals than we did for our holiday to The Fives in Riviera Maya 2 years ago & I expected an elevated holiday Sandals can’t keep using covid as an excuse If you haven’t got the staff don’t book your hotel to max capacity We did have a lovely holiday but we could have saved a lot of money and gone somewhere quieter & that would have made it perfect Read less

Disclaimer: I take into consideration the effects of Covid has had on everyone. We booked this trip in April 2020 for that October and pushed it back at least 4 times because of everything going on. Also, I take responsibility for not getting Butler level. I’m not a stranger to Sandals, I should have known better. Not Sandals related: Getting through the airport was quick and easy, we got tested there as well. Had all our documents and the BIMSafe app prepared. 20 mins from deplaning to Sandals van, not bad at all. Check-in was tough, long wait, but we were upgraded because of maintenance issues with our booked room. I informed concierge that my partner and I were celebrating our birthdays that week and asked them to make reservations for 3 of the nights we were there. We were booked for 5 nights and I definitely didn’t expect to get one that night and we had the loyalty dinner another night. Concierge brought us to the room & made sure we were satisfied, but wasn’t much help with directions or recommendations to eat. It was dark by then so we kinda wandered around and found Neptunes. Great food! At that point I didn’t realize the properties were connected either. The issues: I had to go to Club Sandals the next morning to see if the reservations were made and was told there was nothing avail for the week. Then escorted to the culinary desk “to see”, only to find the manager got us one reservation. After 2 nights, I got a call around 8:20am to confirm a room change. Come to find out they were giving the upgrade for only 2 nights, but we were not told that. I contacted management through the loop immediately and later that evening they made it right. I just wish they would have responded sooner as it kinda put a damper on the day. We were also given another dinner reservation. I spent way too much time on this vacation in the Club Sandals lounge, no one seemed actually care out the guests. A lot of the “upper level” staff was pretty rude, housekeeping was a little standoffish and hit or miss. There was a very clear difference of treatment between the butler and non-butler guests, it felt like a”lower class” situation at times. Nothing was done for our birthdays. Spring for Butler rooms if you can, the convenience is well worth the price. I could not find a set of pool chairs until afternoon most days, but always found a shady beach spot. Most of the bartenders, servers, and groundskeepers were super nice. We loved Brandon and Mario from the Epix shop and Kim (in multiple restaurants) was instrumental in the happy part of our trip. Photo session pics were pricey (typical Sandals) and sure the wait times were long (not surprising given Covid and the capacity on the resort). Loyalty dinner was great, though. When all is said and done, we had a blast. Not because of what they did or didn’t do, but because we have fun wherever we go. Life’s too short not to. We met and bonded with a ton of couples from all over and made the most of what we could. Was this vacation terrible? No. Was it worth what we spent? Definitely no. Just not what we are used to at Sandals. We will return to Sandals because we love it, probably not Barbados though. Read less
