I almost felt like I should apologosise to the lady who booked us in for disturbing her afternoon. Lack of interest of the fact thatwe are customers all she wanted was a credit card to pay for the local tax, I was aware it needed to be paid but really as we walk in ? I asked for a receipt for the payment and found it included a deposit for towels, again No problem but would have been nice to be told. Finally having travelled all over the world this is the first hotel that I have had to pay for the safe. Is this location safe or not ? We have been to Barbados many times including during lockdown, we may well come back to the island but not this hotel. Read less

Be careful of the room you are allocated. If it is 127 it does not compare to other garden rooms. Not as advertised. I had to pay extra to upgrade as I wouldn’t have enjoyed a holiday in that room. It is old, tired and very dark. It was completely different to the rooms allocated to others in our party who paid the same amount as us. However in… Read more

It is old, tired and very dark. It was completely different to the rooms allocated to others in our party who paid the same amount as us. However in the more expensive room the water pressure is poor. I had two days where the shower was little more than a dribble and one day with no water at all in the evening. The Wi-Fi is also poor. Most of the time not available in the room. Available most of the time in the bar but is very slow. Happy hour in the bar is between 6 and 7. I was finding that you can ask for service at say 6.45 but the waitress takes so long to get to your table it is no longer happy hour when she turns up and as soon as happy hour ends it is ended whether you asked for service 20 minutes earlier or not. I don’t want to sound too negative as this could be a very nice hotel but in my opinion it needs some investment to put some problems right. Read less

The massive bed was great. The whole team were brilliant. Some more smiley than others but all equally helpful. Breakfast was the best I've had in any 5 star hotel and the lunch menu is fine. Great location. Perfect holiday and we made some new friends too...Alan and Pat call us!! Xx I can't wait to go back Read less

If you want wifi then you won’t get it often,. Many guests here have complained so it’s not just me. Nothing ever seems to be done to improve it. The hotel says it has improved but no change especially if you want to sit in your room or balcony at night…you won’t get wifi. Adjacent hotels have great wifi. Also some of the staff seem to just be unhappy and you feel like you’re putting them out all the time. Though there are some top staff so I am generalising. The rooms continue to be dated and need improving. The all day menu hasn’t changed in years. Southern Palms is in a great location on the gap and totally an amazing beach and has so much potential but we won’t be staying again. It’s a shame that any issues with air con, water, wifi etc are just treated like we are inconveniencing staff and not valued as repeat customers. The owners need to seriously look at changing the hotel and improving basic facilities as there is good competition on Barbados that they are now losing guests to. It’s not a cheap hotel either so I would suggest look around Read less

My family and a friends family booked the family rooms at Southern Palms. We were underwhelmed on arrival, there was no ‘welcome to the hotel’ comment from the lady checking us in, she was quite miserable as were quite a few members of staff in the hotel, many of the bar staff made you feel like you were an inconvenience when you asked for a drink. Not quite the happy go lucky vibe that you’d expect on holiday. This was not the main issue by any stretch of the imagination. Both families booked family rooms which happen to be next to the car park, very close to the main road, opposite a karaoke bar. There was loud noise from the bars and many roaming noisy roosters literally all night were heard due to the proximity of the block and poor insulation/standard of the rooms. The rooms were very tired with big gaps around the door, a bathroom window that doesn’t close resulting in feeling like you are sleeping outside. We made a complaint to the deputy manager after the first night who advised that it would be 1250 dollars to move rooms for remaining 8 nights, we tried to get assistance from Travel Republic who failed to respond, after 4 sleepless nights and us all ending up feeling dreadful, the hotel director arranged for us to be relocated to a better room in a different part of the hotel but we had to pay 500 dollars per family to be able to sleep for the 2nd half of our holiday. It was suggested that we maybe we were sensitive to noise, we are definitely not… those family rooms were the worst we’ve ever stayed in, they are not fit for purpose, I wouldn’t give them 1 star, it really tainted the holiday experience. I Strongly advise that the family rooms (situated in the cheap looking block) in the hotel are avoided at all cost! Pictures attached show the block (maybe the rooms that aren’t on the car park aren’t as affected by noise). The main hotel/ pictures don’t show this block. The upgraded room in a different part of the hotel was very nice and spacious (exactly as shown on website). The main hotel and grounds are very pretty, walking along Dover Beach Southern Palms looks to be one of the nicest hotels but we didn’t venture beyond the shore line to see if that was the case.
