This is the perfect place to relax and unwind, a beautiful beach front location and as there are only around 90 rooms you sometimes feel like you have the place to yourself. Also a perfect location to walk into the Gap of an evening and explore and enjoy the many restaurants and bars, we highly recommend Harlequin, Primo and Cocktail Kitchen. Noted that the rooms are a little dated, but do not let this put you off at all, the maids keep everything very clean and the gardens and grounds are kept in a beautiful condition. Wrap this all up with incredibly friendly, happy and helpful staff and must say a special thank you to Kellie the Hotel Manager for making us feel so welcome. We stayed there for just over a week as a family with young kids and just had a room only and no food and had a suite so the kids had one area to sleep and us another plus kitchen area. First point is the bed in our room was not only huge but so comfortable and we really missed it when we left, the bathroom was good and of a decent size and the kitchenette had everything we needed to do ourselves breakfast and the kids snacks. The location of the hotel is great, its right on Dover beach which is really nice and the view from our window and balcony were amazing and its a very short walk to the St Lawrence Gap restaurants where there are some great places to eat and drink. The pools were really good and we spend most of the time in the main one but it was nice for a change to check out the the other smaller one. The staff were really nice, especially the tall sports guy who my kids loved and the cleaning staff were great and really nice. Its also great for wildlife, we saw loads of turtles in the sea right by the hotel, a regular humming bird outside our window each morning and night, lots of crabs plus we saw a tiny whistling frog which was of huge excitement for the kids as we had been searching all holiday. All in all a great trip and we loved both the hotel and the location Read less

We decided to go Room Only which we have never done before but with so many bars and resturants close by we needent of worried. Rooms were dated and are well due a refurb, but maids keept the rooms immaculate . Hotel resturant food was good quality with a nice atmosphere, but sometimes it took forever to get food and drinks to the table after ordering.!!!! Hotel grounds were relaxing, pool was nice to swim in and Dover Beach was stunning which really sells this hotel . No worries about getting up to get a sun bed at the crack of dawn there were always plenty around. Keep a,look out for the turtles swimming in the ocean. General stores for milk juice etc. Close by . We went to Happy Days Cafe for Brunch which is over the road in the Chattel Village from the hotel, they make wonderful pancakes and bacon rolls in this family run cafe We enjoyed our time at Southern Palms Hotel and would return Read less

Just returned from a four night five day trip with my wife and teenage son and teenage daughter. we all loved it. We had a room only package which was great because there are tons of restaurants within walking distance. The restaurant on site was excellent and their drinks were fantastic including the happy hour. We took advantage of the pool, of the puppet, the tennis and more. The room was spacious, kitchen with fridge, and always clean and comfortable beds. The staff was very friendly. Shakeef (spelling?) at the front desk was always very kind and helpful on tips for restaurant ideas, arranging taxi, and even helped us arrange a snorkel cruise. The beach is beautiful and every day there were at least a dozen sea turtles swimming around the water with us. There were plenty of beach chairs never had to fight for them. Our favorite person there was Sandy at the WaterSports. Nicest guy ever and always helpful. We did sunfish sailing ($50 usd) , windsurfing (free) and kayaking (free). Highly recommend southern Palms for couples and families. Great location great beach and great staff. Read less

We landed on our feet here. We were put into Room 217 and had the best view of the main pool, the bar and the beach. The room had a balcony (with fridge), and the bedroom itself was large with a comfortable king size bed. Lots of pillows of different softness too - always good. We landed on our feet here. We were put into Room 217 and had the best view of the main pool, the bar and the beach. The room had a balcony (with fridge), and the bedroom itself was large with a comfortable king size bed. Lots of pillows of different softness too - always good. The bathroom was OK - shower was a bit small - but it had everything that we needed/ A mention to the cleaners, who did a magnificent job each day, making the bed, changing the towels and leaving a lovely clean smell in the room. The air conditioner was efficient and quiet. After a long day on the beach it was a joy to come back to. We took advantage of the happy hour every day. Top tip - the Happy hour at the hotel next door is from 5-6, at Southern Palms from 6-7 and over the road at My Friends Place it runs from 7-8. Try doing that every day! We booked a room-only stay but enjoyed lunches at the bar and indulged in the buffet breakfast a couple of mornings. We ate out a lot and have not had a single bad experience on the Gap - every restaurant serves great food and has great service. Special mention to Cafe Sol and Tabu, but Harlequin, Cocktail Kitchen, Primo, Sharkeys and Castaways are all great. And please please please go to Daddies and Happy Days - cheaper but still awesome. The hotel has a great position on Dover Beach, which is 0.5km long - I know this because at 8am each day we would walk it end to end multiple times and the old Apple Watch recorded it. Beautiful, clean, white sand. The sea was a little rough the first few days but the last 4 days, it was fantastic, and so warm! We had no problems getting sun beds on the beach - never tried around the pool. Reason? Turtle TV! So many turtles swimming in the sea directly opposite the hotel - just set up and watch. I'm convinced they like surfing. The last days there we went swimming a lot and the turtles would come so close, investigating those weird bipeds in the water. The staff at the hotel are all brilliant - no exceptions. They really do make you feel at home and I loved chatting with them. It was like being looked after by your mum or grandma! They all laughed a lot with each other and the guests - a great sign of a great hotel. We will definitely be returning, and I will heartily recommend it to anyone who asks. We were very sad to be leaving. Read less
