Lovely room with 2 very cosy beds. Air conditioning. Beach towels and complimentary bottle of rum and cokes, perfect!!! All staff are so friendly, they all speak and are so friendly. The hotel is on the most beautiful beach. The sand is so white and the sea the most beautiful colours. We sat and watched turtles from our balcony it was amazing. My daughters loved seeing them in the sea whilst they were swimming. The waves can be abit rough. Plenty of beds and you can put them anywhere on the beach or under the palm trees. The pools are lovely and cleaned everyday. Afternoon tea every day at 4 and cocktail party on a Monday night, so lovely. Live music every Sunday and on occasions in the week but we always went out, just heard it. Restaurant suggestions: Breakfast: happy days Lunch: memosa, pizza ( we watched turtles eating our lunch and drinking amazing cocktails Cafe sol, mexican Sea ya: local rotis Dinner: cocktail kitchen (amazing), cafe sol My friends place, opposite the hotel. Cafe Sol. My suggestion is get a car and investigate the island. Very safe and don’t forget to beep your horn. Best beaches other than Dover beach is bats rock, Carlisle bay, Payne’s bay. The nature reserve at the north of the island is great, get there for 2pm as they feed the wild monkeys who suddenly appear with the tortoises, kids loved it. We are definitely going back and wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. Read less

Lovely hotel on the beach. Staff nice especially Edric on reception who was a credit to the hotel. Food very good and drink prices OK for a nice hotel. Room was nice and cleaned on a regular basis. Probably the best hotel we've been to in the gap so far and would recommend here to anyone.

The hotel is in a great location and we are pleased we paid the extra for a higher floor balcony sea view. The beach was stunning and we were graced with many a sea turtle popping up to say hello. The room was fine, a little dated, but had everything we needed. The bar area could do with a refurb, wasn’t really that inviting but the drinks they made us definitely packed a punch and happy hour was great value. We went half board and to be fair it was ok. Breakfast was fabulous but the evening meal was hit & miss. Few disasters but nothing that spoiled the holiday. What was really welcoming was they were genuinely sorry for any mishaps and took on board everyone’s feedback and comments in a positive manner. St Lawrence Gap is a hub of great bars run by friendly generous locals who will make you welcome all day long. If you happen to be there on a Friday, promise me you will take the bus or taxi to Oistins for their famous Fish Fry Friday. AMAZING memories there which still brings a smile to my face thinking about the night out we had. If you want a nice fancy beach side lunch then hire a car and head up the West coast to Holetown and get booked in for lunch at Tides. Stunning location and the most delicious food ever!! Read less

We travelled to Southern Palms on a Virgin package from the UK. First time to Barbados! Arrived to a pleasant welcome from reception and porter service to our room. This is, unfortunately, where things went downhill. We had booked a "supersaver" room which came without balcony or terrace. We hadn't seen this as a particular issue given that we would not be spending much time in the room. On entering the room on the 3rd floor via cracked steps and a flimsy door, a stale smell was prevalent. The room was tiny with one small window. We knew immediately that we couldn't stay in this room for a week.....Virgin should really not be selling these rooms as they fall considerably short of what UK tourists would reasonably expect. We went and approached reception - they had a garden room near to the smaller pool available from the next day. The charge per night was not insignificant but we had no choice but to move as I personally would have gone mad with claustrophobia in the first room. Once we had paid up (gulp) and moved, all was well. The hotel staff were fab, especially the blonde lady on the desk who deserves a customer service award. We attended the "afternoon tea" at 4pm. There is tea and coffee but the cakes are the same every day so we only went twice. There were manager's cocktails on a Monday night, but we were leaving on the Tuesday so had shopping to do! Our Virgin rep, John, gave us a very laid back and non pressured welcome meeting, helped us with info about the island and sorted out a hire car for us. He is a credit to Virgin. He even told us which rum shack on the beach to go to. We took his advice, and sure enough, bumped into him there! The hotel and the staff are lovely. The beach is beautiful. We didn't have the best weather (too much rain!!) but it remained warm through the week and we had enjoyable experiences touring the island in our hire car and going to Oistins for the Friday night fish fry via the Reggae buses for $2 dollars pp each way! Would return to this hotel, but have other places to see first! Thanks to the lovely staff and to John.. Read less

We stayed at Southern Palms for a week following a fabulous cruise. When we arrived we were staggered at the beautiful beach and arriving on a Sunday afternoon whilst the steel band were playing was amazing. We stayed in a garden view room with a fantastic view of the pool and beach. The room was fine, not particularly modern, but had efficient and quiet air con (really needed). Our only criticism was the terribly small shower with a fixed shower head which made washing my hair a real problem. Resolved this by standing outside the shower and leaning in to wash hair properly! Beach front was glorious, not crowded, plenty of shade under the palm trees (unlike packed areas in front of neighbouring hotels). The food was good and service fine. Drinks were a little expensive, but hotels always are. Plenty of local bars and restaurants nearby for a change of scene. Organised two trips out- Harrison's Caves and Hunte's Gardens. Both beautiful and a must for nature lovers. Loved it all so much we have booked to return, but upgraded our room to a sea view. (Better and bigger bathrooms). Read less
