Had to locate to this hotel after our original booking was cancelled but we wanted to be on Dover beach so we picked this hotel. Pros. It’s directly on Dover beach which in my opinion is one of the best in Barbados. It’s a very good location to walk into the gap about 5 minutes where a lot of bars and restaurants are. Cons. The staff not all, are elderly ladies and some are not as quick on their feet as the younger ones but that is also the Bajan way. Our room was supposed to be an ocean view room but to the right of the balcony we had a rooftop with lots of solar panels and water heaters which was off putting and also the view of the sea was obscured by another building in front so I definitely wouldn’t call it an ocean view room. The room itself was tired and the bathroom looked like it hadn’t been upgraded since the hotel was open in 1981. Overall very expensive 14 nights stay in a hotel that’s needs updating asap. Read less

After seeing some negative reviews we did wonder have we booked the right hotel for our first visit to Barbados, well the hotel was fabulous. I can understand that some may find the rooms a little dated, but personally if they modernised, it would take away some of the charm and quaintness of the rooms. We had an ocean view room, and the view along the beach and out over the Caribbean Sea was fantastic. The staff at the hotel were outstanding, attentive, always pleasant, and helpful. We had tried to book some trips whilst there through the tour company but with no success, reception managed to get the same trips for a better price and on the days we wanted without any fuss, we then trusted them to arrange our car hire and once again they came up trumps. The hotel offers sun beds and chairs on the beach, with staff happy to put them wher you want and fetch a parasol. When we go back in the future we will definitely be staying at the Southern Palms Beach Club Read less
