I recently spent a week here with my mum, we had not travelled to Barbados for a holiday, but for the repatriation & funeral of my late grandmother and wanted to stay somewhere where we did not have to worry about anything else. Check in was easy, although a deposit did have to be left via a credit card. Our room was situated on the third floor and thankfully there was a lift which made it easier for my mum who has slight mobility problems. The room was a lovely sized double & the gentleman who brought our bags up asked if we would like to separate the bed into two singles. Within 5 minutes someone from housekeeping came up and did this for us. Our room overlooked the pool & garden area, the bathroom was large with a walk in shower and amenities. In addition to Coffee/Tea making facilities, there was also a fridge which was topped up every day with bottled water. The AC was great and cooled the room down lovely- it was particularly hot in Barbados during cropover week so it was a godsend! The food offerings were delicious each day, and were a fusion of Caribbean cuisine & staples known the world over (I had a love of the cornmeal dumplings.. they were absolutely delicious) desserts were nice too! I am lactose intolerant and on our first night, without prompting the dining staff explained that I could have personal dairy free food options if I notified them in advance & were happy to go through what was on offer that night - I was more than fine, I navigate around dairy all the time. I would reccomend to anyone to try the Bajan lemonade at the bar. I practically lived on them the whole time! The hotel is situated on a beach in hastings, so if you didn't fancy going anywhere, you can still enjoy the Barbados beach and sea by just going downstairs. Bridgetown is only a 10 minute taxi drive away and Oistins around 15 mins away. One night, I was walking through the lobby when a female employee called me over and invited me to look into a bucket she had... it contained new Hawksbill Turtle hatchlings from two nests on the hotel beach. She explained to me that they would be tagged & looked after until they were big enough to be let out into the wild at another beach. I was able to touch the little turtles, it was a lovely experience! Absolutely nothing was too much for any of the staff that we encountered here. With many remembering us by sight as the week went on. I hope to visit this hotel again in the near future under happier circumstances. A special thank you to all the staff & especially to Tanisha for ALL your warmth and hospitality during a difficult time. Read less

My son loves their kids club - it’s always staffed and I have no qualms about leaving my son in their capable and reliable care . The rooms are still in good shape , nice and comfy. Staff remembered us and always greeted us . I still find the pool a bit shallow but I enjoy lounging there and making use of the swim up bar . Lovely birthday weekend stay! Read less

All the staff were very cheerful and warming and a special shout out to Andrea, breakfast chef, James water sports and Andre bar. The restaurants were excellent, especially Sizzlers and all the portions and cocktails were very generous. The hotel pool is fairly small, ideal for children, but as the beach and sea are handy we never sat round the pool. The rooms are fairly basic, hence why l’ve only awarded 4 stars. The location on the south coast meant everything was very close by and although we hired a car for 8 days I think 4 would have been enough. Eating out is very expensive however there are plenty of bars within walking distance if you fancy a change. Great friendly island and well worth a visit. Read less

I would highly recommend this hotel. On arrival we were welcomed with a cold towel and fruit & rum punch. The small misunderstanding with our booking (agents fault, not the hotel) was sorted quickly with no drama. The food was plentiful with lots of choice and of a good standard. The drinks were generous and of good quality spirits with a wide selection of cocktails too. We stayed in a two bedroom oceanfront deluxe suite which was very large with a good size king bed in one room and a twin (can be double) in the 2nd bedroom. There was also a large living room with fridge and two balcony's/terrace's. Housekeeping was of an excellent standard too. All that said, the best thing about this hotel is the staff, all very friendly, special mention to Derick & Joel behind the bar! Very rarely do we return to a place twice as we always love to travel to new places but i'd be very surprised if we don't return to Sugar Bay again. Read less
