This was our 2nd trip to Barbados and there was only 1 place we wanted to stay. Sugar bay is the best AI hotel we have ever experienced. Not only is it stunningly beautiful but the service at this hotel is second to none! The staff are genuinely friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay extra special. They are like a big happy family and you leave feeling like you have made friends of them all. Returning guests get a pink band on their wrist and you can tell from the sheer number of pink bands that people return at a staggering rate, I’m not surprised either! The food is absolutely to die for, high quality and loads of choices, cleanliness is top rate and the beautiful gardens and landscaping is stunning attracting monkeys to the resort in mango season. This time was turtle season and we saw mummy turtles laying eggs and hundreds of babies hatching and making their way to the stunning Ocean. Barbados is paradise but Sugar bay is heavenly and I can’t wait to go back! Highly recommended you will not be disappointed ♥️♥️😂 Read less

We stayed here for 10 nights recently. The complex is very nice, clean and the staff were incredibly welcoming, polite and attentive. The food is a buffet 3 times daily and there are 2 other restaurants plus a beach cafe. The food I found to be a bit hit and miss and all rather " samey." I was expecting fantastic shellfish every day sering as though it's a 4 star place in Barbados. Sadly there was not, plenty of cheap local fish yes which was good, but I wanted freshly caught big prawns, crab, mussels etc. The food overall was good but not outstandingly good. The steak I had from the sizzle bar was cooked extra extra rare, when I'd asked for rare. And it was tough. The food in the beach cafe was good. However, I expected more snacks on offer , like sandwiches, crisps etc. The beach was very seaweedy which could have been raked daily because the smell coming off it was unpleasant. In fact it stank. The room was lovely, I can't really fault it and was cleaned to perfection daily. The pool was ok but it had these weird steps in it instead of just sloping down. I stumbled a few times. The drinks were in our opinion definitely watered down ( spirits ). Really cheap stuff I'd never even heard of. Cocktails tasted weak , just no oomph to them. The barstaff were pouring huge measures of vodka which if they were 40% would have me on my back but it took about 5 to even get me light headed. My biggest gripe was the lack of air con throughout the main building and in the restaurants. It was suffocating at times and I do not find that pleasurable. It spoiled the eating experience. Why on earth does a 4* hotel not install AC throughout? Absolutely unacceptable. The staff are wonderful and deserve credit. I'm sure they're not paid much but they are all so smiley, polite and friendly. All in all I'd rate Sugar Bay a 7/10. I wouldn't return unless they fixed the air con, raked over the beach and offered a wider range of food and snacks during the day. And served better drinks. Read less
