My wife and I have just so enjoyed a third consecutive January holiday at the wonderful Sugar Bay hotel on Barbados. Morgan Seale heads up a superb team of staff, for whom nothing is too much trouble and they seem to genuinely want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We were amazed just how many of them remembered not only our faces but our names too, from the moment we arrived to when we left. The service was so good that it would be unfair to pick out just a few names, but those who were truly exceptional know who they are. We again treated ourselves to an oceanfront deluxe room and loved it. The food choices in the main Reef buffet restaurant were varied and of high quality and we enjoyed our four visits to the Sizzle speciality restaurant too at no extra cost. The hotel’s private beach is as lovely as ever and the beach boys made sure we had umbrellas for shade. The south coast location means you can walk along the beach in both directions and the hotel is far enough away from the airport not to be troubled by any noise, but near enough for a relatively short transfer time. The live entertainment each evening was of a good quality, with the girl band Virgo, who tend to appear on Sundays, perhaps the best. The service from the bar staff was excellent too and we found it great that the main bar closed at 11pm, which meant that the hotel became very quiet soon after, which suited us just fine. The discreet security presence meant we felt very safe at all times. In short, truly superb and we are sure we shall return at some stage. Read less

Stayed here January 11th to 18th January 2020 Flight was with virgin through Tui, perfect flight ... The resort is 30mins from the airport, great location The hotel in my opinion was first class and I will list why.. Arrived Greated with a smile and rum punch .. Check in was swift and they will take your credit card it this point in case you want to pay for trips so no need to carry money around the hotel. They give you a bracelet with a small badge is the best way to describe it and this is to identify you as a guest and it’s your room key so no need to worry about your room, it’s on your wrist.. Room We had a ground floor sea view and was big enough and had hairdryer and fridge freezer and a safe, slippers and dressing gown.. There is also a sugar bay bag if you use it you will be charged for it. You will see in some reviews comments about hot water taking its time to come through , we had very little issues if you put the shower on by the time you get ready it’s warm .. Food Brilliant we have no complaints here, Main buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner . Good variety Colins beach bar, lunch . Burgers, hot dogs, chicken etc and the menu changes daily, you do have to wear a tee shirt or they will ask you to put one on. You can also order more than one item off the menu at a time.. Sizzle .dinner steak restaurant very good book next to reception Umi. Asian and sushi restaurant..very good and book next to reception There is also afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes Bars Pool swim up .. we didn’t use Reef bar ..great place to socialise and meet people, staff will make any drink you want ...great Colins bar on the beach .great location and staff do come up the beach to collect orders but they can be a bit on Barbados time .. Staff The staff here are amazing and I genuinely mean that I wish I could remember all their names ... Gale who works on the egg station makes the perfect omelette..thank you Gale Pool bar guys and beach guys just brilliant and can not do enough for you ..thanks guys Restaurant staff ...just amazing remembering what you have where u like to sit.. Reef bar . Again just brilliant as soon as your drinks low another appears ... Reception staff...nothings to much trouble Sea and beach Lovely beach and the sea is clear and you can snorkel and if you go the reef at the hotel next door to the left the fish are amazing and take some bread .. Out and about Taxis ....little mini busses will craze you but there are ok Busses blue busses there ok to and then there’s the big yellow busses reggay bus I have no issues in recommending this hotel .. Everyone we met of the staff were brilliant, the reception team couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The Reef restaurant staff were great and the food was probably the best we have had at an hotel in the Caribbean. The hotel is set in well kept grounds and has a strip of beach accessed directly from the building. The beach itself was raked daily by the watersports boys (who were always helpful and cheerful). If you have loungers on the beach, drinks are brought to you if you wish. The sea is beautiful and the beach itself is protected by a reef, so you can swim even when the tide is in or coming in as the bigger waves dissipate. Our room was an Ocean Front and was of a good size with a nice bathroom and a balcony overlooking the sea. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the room, but many people prefer to go and make their own at the Driftwood Cafe and take it back to their rooms. There is no smoking in the rooms or balconies (although many Americans ignored this). You can walk the beach in either direction for miles if you wish and there are many cafes, shops etc along the way. Together with the Reef restaurant, there is Sizzle (a steak house) and Umi (a sushi restaurant) - you have a visit once every 7 days as part of the tarrif. For lunch there is also Colin's Bar which also serves drinks throughout the day. Would we go back - absolutely YES Read less
