Very nice hotel with excellent staff but it needs to pay attention to some aspects of it’s operation. The eating arrangements where by it is necessary to book a time in one of the two restaurants the night before , is irritating. There is a desperate need for more sun loungers around the pool. Given this is a none beach hotel it can be very difficult to get a sun lounger at certain times. This particularly so when some very selfish guests reserve beds and then leave them unoccupied for long periods. In one case 6 hours whilst I assume they went on a trip and wanted to be sure of beds when they returned. The rule about the none wearing of shorts by men in the bar and restaurants is a little antiquated. Good tailored shorts in my view are ‘more elegant’ then a lot of the trousers I saw, especially when jeans are allowed. It’s is a nice hotel and the staff are very attentive. However I think they should take a leaf out of the way their sister hotel ‘ The Bel Jou’ in St. Lucia is operated. My wife and I stayed there last year and we found it superior. Read less

This was the second time we have stayed at Sugar cane. The staff and management are so helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, due to the Covid 19 , Virgin decided to cut our holiday short. Every day we were told something different. The reception staff were able to help with U K travel arrangements after arriving back in UK. They were also able to give the correct details re new flights, departure times e.t.c So well looked after. The restaurants were well run by a team of mostly younger female staff and a very good and professional Dining room manager. We did not see the new F and B manager, unlike Henderson who was always around. The new menu at Sandy's Chattel Bar and Restaurant was amazing, and the two chefs produced the most beautiful food. Again, the waitress in charge was professional and extremely pleasant. A lovely place. Read less

Small boutique hotel with a quiet charm. Spent three weeks here and gradually attuned ourselves to the very relaxing nature of the place. Clientele mainly in the older age group. We ourselves are well into our 70s but, whilst we may be old, we’re not quite dead and along with many others, still enjoy a bit of ‘up beat’ dancing , but the entertainment often did not accommodate this. Staff very friendly and food good. Only went to the ‘Sugar Cane ‘ beach once as we found (from previous years at Almond Beach hotel) that Heywoods beach was much nicer, with very few people and better snorkelling. Do go on the gulley tour with the head gardener. He is very knowledgeable and full of funny anecdotes. We loved Sandys restaurant. It is a pity that they don’t make more use of it by letting diners sit outside after the meal and make use of the small bar. The rooms were lovely. One small complaint was the fact that the full sized refrigerator was not stocked with any drinks except two bottles of water which, if consumed, you had to pay for. This is appalling in what is considered a 4* + hotel. I did like the fact that you could tip staff at the end of the holiday by leaving money in an envelope. This meant that all staff could benefit; however, in parting with a reasonably large amount of money, I would have liked to have seen more robust accounting controls than just money in an envelope. All in all an enjoyable holiday. If you’re looking for ultra relaxation, this is the place to go. Read less

This is my first review and I only joined Tripadvisor to sing the praises of this wonderful hotel and spa!! My wife and I visited this hotel for 2 weeks from the end February into March. We looked at lots of others before deciding to book. We could not have made a better decision. This hotel suited our needs and what we look for in a holiday perfectly. Evening times are quiet and often people start wondering off to their rooms around 10pm. If you're the party type, then this place is not for you!! This is a small hotel and you do get to know the staff and other guests during a 2 week stay. This is not normally our scene, but surprisingly, we found the friendliness of everybody very refreshing. Moving onto staff, what can we say, they are amazing! Such a lovely friendly team. Everybody has time for a quick hello and chat, from the gardeners, bar staff to the hotel managers. The hotel is beautifully designed and decorated. The photos on the website do not do it justice. The complex is set out well and has a very relaxing feel to it. The food and menus are amazing, you can probably get 12 out of 14 nights a la carte, in either the main restaurant or Sandy's. Saying that the buffet bbq's are also very good! Sandy's is a lovely intimate setting over looking the gully, where the tall trees are lit up by lights. If you go early enough you can see the green monkeys playing in the trees. The hotel have a shuttle bus to the beach. This runs 4 times a day, there and back. If this puts you off, dont let it. The service was very reliable. We love the beach so usually got the 9am bus there and either the 3pm or 5pm bus back. The hotel also supply a packed lunch if you are spending a day out. This is quite basic, but everything you need is in there, sandwich, salad, fruit, cake or a pastry. The beach has a beach house that serves drinks all day as part of the all inclusive. Beers, rum punch or soft drinks are available. They also provide masks and snorkel, plus a couple of kayaks for guests to use. As you can see by my photo the beach is beautiful and should be promoted better by the hotel on their website. Nicholas at the beach is a lovely guy and served drinks and provided people with beds and umbrellas throughout the day. The hotel pool was nice, although we did not spend much time there. We never had any issues getting beds, although ones around the pool were often full. The hotel runs a free glass bottom boat trip to swim with turtles. What an experience that was!! Loved it!! We swam with a group of turtles plus saw a large stingray and puffer fish. Again, snorkels and masks were provided, plus a nice glass of rum punch to wash the salty water away!! We did not use the spa or gym, so cannot really comment on these!! We stayed in room 408. This had a nice view of the beautifully maintained gardens and start of the gully walk. We often sat on our balcony watching the green monkeys playing. As a rule we never go to the same place twice, the worlds a big place... saying that though, in the case of this hotel we are making an exception and already planning our next visit for 2021!!
