Despite the enthusiasm and best efforts of some of the staff we were very disappointed with our stay. Yes, the gardens are lovely and everywhere was spotlessly clean, but there was absolutely no evidence of any management anywhere during our stay Only on one day did someone visit the pool to take orders for drinks, there were no special evenings and the food in the evening was repetitive and only average. We actually found the week to be rather dull, no atmosphere and no attempt by the management to enhance our stay. We really we very perplexed by the guests who had stayed there many times, but if you are happy to spend the whole day around the pool, have dinner at a very early time and then retire to your room then this is probably the place for you. We have visited the Sugar Cane Club on many occasions for the last 17 years and yes it is still a wonderful place with beautiful gardens and super accommodation. However on this visit the Service was at times appalling, this was not the fault of the brilliant staff some of which go far beyond their remit to ensure the guests have a great time. We thank them for their enthusiasm and their service which on occasions ensured management were not deluged with complaints. There were many guests who were repeaters and if they were honest they will agree that the service levels in the restaurants and bars did not at times reach the required standards. Indeed on the 9th November the service reached rock bottom leading to the Manager Rodcliffe Massiah to personally speak to all guests apologising for the the poor service which he agreed wasn't good enough and he had a plan to improve service. We hope this is the case as we love this place. The problem in our view is the increase in rooms 8 more rooms equate to 16 more guests the business model is geared to a lower figure. Rodcliffe is actively recruiting more staff which will help in the future but the staff need to be in the kitchen we had numerous occasions when we waited 90 minutes for a meal other guests waited longer !! It wasn't unusual for diners to book 2030 for their meal which didn't arrive until 2200 !! we had occasions when we booked 1930 for a meal which arrived at 2120 by this time I really didn't want it. Lunchtimes were the same an hour wait for a meal is just not acceptable. The food quality is generally good the fact that on the buffet nights we didn't like the offerings is our fault and not the hotels but we pay good money and should receive offerings to our satisfaction. we wish Rodcliffe the best of luck he appears a man of his word and hope should we return that the Old Sugar Cane Club Service returns Read less

My friend and I celebrate my cancer anniversary in the Caribbean every few years (10 years this time). It's good to celebrate still being alive!! We picked this hotel as it's slightly inland. What a fabulous choice we made. Our room overlooked the gully, so we had monkeys visiting twice a day. We had everything we needed in the room, and housekeeping was superb. It's all-inclusive, and you are never sure how that is going to be, but it was certainly the best I have had. Breakfast was probably the worst as it was a standard buffet, but who cares when lunch and dinner are so good. There is a shuttle bus to the beach that drops at either Haywood or the beach club where sunbeds and umbrellas are provided. You can use Sand Street facilities and get 10% discount due to being hotel guests. Yes, you have to use money, but it is no more expensive than the UK, and the staff are fabulous. Personally, I think it's worth calling in after being on the beach, and it deserves to do well A special mention has to be for the staff, and the owners should be absolutely proud of the service they provide. They make the whole experience special, so thank you!!! Will I be back, I certainly hope so!!! Read less

Once again ( this being my 4th visit to this hotel) I have had a wonderful holiday. I was welcomed warmly on arrival and upon my entry to my apartment I found a bottle of wine and a decorated cake in the fridge! This made me feel so welcome and relaxed after the long journey. As a single lady traveller, I feel so safe and relaxed in this hotel. The staff really are first class, whether it’s Karene on reception, Gregory or Sharon, Apryl, Robyn in the Restaurant, the chefs, the gardeners, the cleaners- customer service is truly at the forefront of this hotel. The food is excellent with daily specials, really too delicious to miss! Plenty of variety and cooked to order. I had a sea view apartment which was serviced daily with clean sheets every other day. Whilst there, the weather was extremely hot but this did not affect the smooth running of the hotel. I can honestly say that I felt truly relaxed upon my arrival back in the UK and friends have remarked on how well I look. If you want a relaxed, peaceful pampered holiday, then this is for you! Thank you Sugar Cane Club for a wonderful holiday and I look forward to seeing you all again soon! Read less
