I had my second visit to The Sugar Cane Club in 2018, having not been there for 7 years. It was just as I remembered. Walking up the steps to a warm welcome and be greeted with a drink after the journey was a nice start to the holiday. It was comforting to see it was still as lovely as I remembered. It's a special place I have thought of often and it was lovely to be there and see it again. I had the same ocean view room as before which had had a bathroom upgrade. The rooms are simply decorated but very spacious. The food, staff and surroundings were excellent as before. This hotel has some of the nicest staff you will ever meet. They help to make the holiday special, and they care about their guests. The thing I love most about this hotel is how peaceful it is. There are activities to do (nature walk, rum tasting, cooking or cocktail classes and the turtle trip is a must), but for those of us who want to relax and don't want loud thumping music day and night - this is the perfect peaceful retreat. They did have low key entertainment in the form of steel drums and singers which was ideal and not too intrusive. Caribbean night by the pool was such a lovely night. I love to see the wild life in the grounds - the birds and monkeys are so cute! The cocktails are amazing and spa is nice for a treat too. There is variation of food - A La Carte in La Salsa, Sandy's Chattel is open a few nights a week and there are BBQ nights by the pool as well. Dietary requirements were well catered for. It was small and intimate so the guests were mixing well and there were laughs and good conversation along the way! The only thing that I think could be improved is the frequency of shuttles to the beach or Speightstown as they felt more limited this time compared to our first visit. We did take advantage of the hotel shuttle to Holetown for convenience (an extra fee). The hotel is in quite a remote location (which I knew already and was fine with) so it might not be for you if you want to be in the centre of everything, but for peace and relaxation you won't find better. As it was our Honeymoon the staff provided a few little extras to make our stay special which was greatly appreciated. I hope the Sugar Cane Club stays true what it is - I think it is perfect. It's one of my favourite hotels in the world and is very hard to leave on the last day. It is my heaven! We have already booked up to return in 2019 - see you again soon SCC! Read less

I completely agree with all the wonderful comments about the staff at the hotel in particular Neil, Xaviar and sharon amongst many. The food is amazing but be prepared that it is a la carte' 5 nights a week and if you are there two weeks it can be a bit much. The only downside for us as a couple was the lack of fun Caribbean vibe. The majority of travellers are aged 60 who went to bed at 9pm after their meal. This is probably down to the lack of entertainment and limited seating after your meal. We were there 2 weeks ; one night was an instrumental band whilst you had an instrumental duo for background music for the buffet. The other night it was two girls who were amazing and on one of those nights the handful of younger ones including ourselves - mid 50s made the hotel come alive with dancing and fun a lot of the staff said they hadn't seen that amount of excitement for some time. The following day a lot of people were discussing that night and agreed that this hotel is lacking the fun aspect. I appreciate you don't want loud music but there was hardly any music that you could hear in the 2 weeks it was always very quiet and drab. We would return to Barbados but not to the hotel although it is wonderful I was expecting a lot more vibe from the music/entertainment. You got the feeling that the management were happy if you went to bed at 9pm because you weren't drinking. Read less

This allowed us to watch the monkeys every morning and late afternoon, and the many birds from our secluded balcony. The room was comfortable and clean and air con great. The food is outstanding we enjoyed eating mainly at the Chattel House or around the pool. Many of the meals are a la carte and could not be faulted. Thoroughly enjoyed the glass bottom boat trip and saw many turtles and the gully walk was so informative, learned loads. Had a complimentary massage which was so good, the Spa is relaxing and so is the jacuzzi area. The staff were the friendliest ever and always had a smile and spoke to you every time they saw you wherever they saw you. Would return again to this friendly and amazing hotel. Read less

This was our fourth visit to the Sugar Cane and had another wonderful 2 weeks again it improves year on year. We were welcomed by the lovely Karene with a cool towel and a rum punch. The food is still exceptional cooked by all the Chefs and all the excellent kitchen staff. All the staff did a fantastic job for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is buffet style, lunch ala-cart, dinner 4 nights were ala-cart and twice a week buffet by the pool in with entertainment, BBQ night on Thursday’s and Bajan night on Saturday. A varied menu at lunch and dinner time the chef specials were delicious. Guests can also book Sandys Chattel bar and restaurant in the evening which is a short stroll through the grounds Carolyn and David the Chefs really made some tasty food. There is a pool bar next to a very nice pool and a lounge bar serving beer and cocktails prepared by the excellent bar staff Neil, Tomisha, Sharon, Xavier and Ricardo. The hotel is set in colourful grounds and gardens kept lovely by Rodney the head gardener and his team who do an excellent job. A must to do is the gully walk and the Turtles glass bottom boat. There is wild life in the gardens different birds with the monkeys passing through early in the morning and returning to the gully about 5pm in the evening. We had a very nice and relaxing massage from the lovely girls in the spa highly recommended. To get around there is a shuttle bus to take you to the beach or to the bus stop in Speights Town, for an experience get the Reggae/Reggae bus to Holetown or Bridgetown. If you are feeling fit there is a well-equipped gym. If you would like an island tour see Damien at the hotel for an island tour in an air conditioned Mercedes. This is a very relaxing hotel with us leaving with wonderful fond memories we will be going back again. We would highly recommend this hotel to adults as this is a small boutique hotel f not really suited to a family with teenagers as there is not a lot for them to do and you need to travel to get anywhere. There is a very good internet connection. Thank you to Tricia, Rosita and all the staff for making our holiday so special. Read less
