We have just returned from 2 weeks in this lovely hotel. To be honest I was concerned before we visited due to some of the poor reviews. I need not have worried! Lovely friendly very hard working staff who are always on hand to help and advice. Excellent freshly prepared food served at all meals. Adequate size portions, definitely you will not go hungry here. Most meal's table served from a varied 3 course menu and always a vegetarian option. Our only disappointment during our stay was the beach. When we arrived there was a high build up of seaweed in the beach also extending in to the sea which meant swimming and certainly snorkelling was impossible. This continued for the most of our stay. There were no watersports on offer due to the seaweed and the rough seas. However without having to complain we were all offered transportation via air conditioned mini buses to the sister hotel of Mango Bay at Holetown in Mango Bay. This service was offered every day except Sunday for anyone wishing better beach conditions. Mango Bay was fabulous, clear calm warm blue seas with lots of opportunity to snorkel and see an abundance of fish and turtles. There is also an opportunity to take advantage of free water sports including waterskiing and sailing here. Getting around Barbados is extremely easy. 3.50 dollars is the set price no matter how far you go on the bus. The bus stops are outside the hotel. Banks across and to the side of the hotel. We went to Oistins twice, definitely worth a visit. We queued over an hour at the popular Pats Place fish bar but were quite underwhelmed by our food. The following week we were recommended Chillin and Grillin …. No queue and definitely the better meal. Prices from 30 Barbados dollars per meal. I would highly recommend The Sands however we would not return simply because of the possibility of further seaweed invasions and the rough seas but Mango Bay was beautiful. Barbados airport easy enough and an opportunity there to fill in immigration forms on small electronic pads when entering, therefore no need to stress completing at home before setting off on your travels. The Sands is an absolute hidden gem of a hotel, and it couldn't have been more perfect for an amazing Barbados holiday. It's in a great location, walking distance to the St Lawrence gap, and on one of the main roads to easily catch a local bus. It's ideal for staying with a family. I cannot rave about this wonderful hotel enough. It is smaller than some of the big resorts, so we had a two bedroom suite (result - one of the few hotels on the island which offers this) and our room was literally two meters from the swimming pool (which my children loved). The pool was perfect and was cleaned daily. It was just a few more meters on to the beach, and we thought the beach was fantastic. It had beautiful white sand, palm trees and a bar right next to it (what more could you want). It was a great size so the little ones couldn't get lost. My husband and son borrowed kayaks for free, and you could borrow snorkels and swim out to the reef if you were a stronger swimmer, but mostly we just pootled about in the shallows spotting little fish. The watersports guys are really great and they even accompanied us on paddleboards when we kayaked on a day when the sea was choppier, to make sure we were safe. This was so much appreciated. We always found a free sun lounger on the beach too, with an umbrella, which was great. Next, the food! It absolutely blew me away with how good it was. Most evenings are a la carte and the standard was like a Michelin starred restaurant that I went to recently. The portions are perfect and every dinner was special. The two buffet days were a hit with the children! Every meal was plentiful, perfectly cooked and a huge variety across the week. There was always a children's menu but they mostly chose from the main one as it had amazing catch of the day, jumbo prawns, grilled chicken, risotto and all our favourites. I miss the food so much! Drinks were also fab. Lots of cocktails, local beers, wines, milkshakes all included. Couldn't ask for any more. The management couldn't have been better. They walked around every day saying hi and seeing how are stay was, and asking if there was anything they can do. The staff absolutely make the hotel outstanding and we were so sad to leave. My children had hugs from some of the staff when we left - it was like leaving family. I'd love to come back to Barbados and we'd love to stay at The Sands again without a doubt! Thank you all for a memorable and just an amazing stay. Read less

Great small resort. The staff are amazing, the food and drinks are really good. We had seaweed on the beach but the hotel shuttled us to Mango Bay for free. The water is wavy, no water activities and the beach small. Management was always visible and engaging. Entertainment was a solo act, good but a bit disappointing. After a delightful holiday last year we chose to return to The Sands again this year and accommodation, service did not disappoint. Beautiful clean split level rooms, extremely roomy and kept clean to a high standard. We enjoyed lovely 3 course meals and the occasional buffet, all good but buffet least enjoyable. Staff were as memorable as previous, shout out this time to Sherika and the breakfast ‘egg’ young lady, service always with a smile. We always managed to get sun beds easily beside the pool and on the beach and neither of us were bitten by mozzies. Only gripe we had was 1 whole day of rain! So if that can be addressed next year we’d be grateful haha Read less
