My daughter and I spent 1 week at this fabulous hotel in a 2 room duplex suite. We both agreed that it ticked all our boxes for a great holiday! It is a fantastic location which has cashpoint, pharmacy and supermarket very close by, and is only a 10 minute walk to St Lawrence Gap. The beach is absolutely beautiful with adequate sun beds for hotel guests, there is a reef which means the sea is relatively calm. My daughter and I enjoyed lovely walks along the beach in either direction of the hotel beach, cooling off for dips in the warm sea along the way! We travelled to sister hotel Mango Bay one day to take advantage of the complimentary 2 hour catamaran cruise we were entitled to, and we booked with Guest Services. I was expecting a complimentary shuttle bus, but was told we had to pay for our transport, the hotel booked a taxi for us which cost 140 Barbados Dollars return (approx £56). The cruise was with with Stiletto Cruises and we really enjoyed our cruise along the west coast, followed by full use of the all inclusive facilities at Mango Bay Hotel afterwards. The swimming pool at The Sands is simply stunning! It is warm and kept very clean, plenty of sun beds around it. A very pleasant area to relax. The main restaurant at The Sands was wonderful and right next to the beach. There was a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner laid on each day. There was also the option of a snack pool-side menu which we enjoyed having at lunchtime, and also an alternative more formal restaurant called Noir serving dinner. We enjoyed all the food we had, as well as the delicious cocktails! The hotel staff were friendly and attentive, all requests were dealt with. Our 2 room duplex suite was extremely well laid out with open plan living room area and big television and large balcony. It was useful to have a fridge to stock up on cold drinks. There were tea and coffee making facilities that were replenished each day. However, there was only a fan on this level, it would have been good to have aircon. The room upstairs had 2 twin beds as requested, and aircon. There was plenty of wardrobe and drawer space for us, along with a cupboard containing iron and ironing board. The bathroom had a large shower, but unfortunately no bath. Housekeeping did a good job of cleaning the accommodation. My daughter and I left this hotel wishing we were staying longer, and I am about to look at booking a return trip there sometime soon! Would definitely recommend this hotel, it is my favourite that I have stayed at in Barbados. Read less

We just returned from 10 days at the Sands in beautiful Barbados The resort looks exactly like the online photos. We are beach people and especially enjoyed the beach staff setting up our umbrella and chairs when we arrived each day. This system eliminates the problem at other resorts where palapas and seating becomes a war to see who can get up the earliest to reserve them. They are quite upfront that if you leave your loungers for longer than an hour or so your items will be removed. This was not an issue as it was not the least overcrowded when we were there. The beach is soft sand and beautiful with little or no seaweed. Beach was cleaned up the one day that seaweed did drift in. There is definitely some erosion of the beach, but this does not affect the quality and there is lots of space for all guests. We had an Air Canada Signature room, which is called a Studio (I wanted to make sure this was not the supersaver room mentioned in other reviews). It is a fairly large room, though could use a little extra furniture; a couple of chairs and a footstool in the main area and a couple of chairs on the balcony would be nice as the only place to watch tv is from the bed. Appreciated that they had a wooden clothes dryer on the large balcony which eliminates everyone’s wet suits and towels hanging over the railings. There is a stovetop but no cooking utensils, so not sure of the purpose. Fridge was stocked with water daily. The room was very clean, and they offered us turndown service nightly. The bathroom is small but efficient. Staff are really friendly and are constantly asking if you want or need anything. Entertainment every evening some nights better than others. Lunches and dinners are a la carte with occasional buffet. There is a set menu with 3 options which varies daily. Additionally, there is a daily snack menu with hot dogs and burgers. Surf and Turf night was excellent. The Noir Restaurant was lovely, with excellent food and service; a beautiful spot to dine. The hotel is currently following strict covid protocols, which was one of the reasons we chose this spot as our first vacation following the pandemic. Masks required unless dining or on the beach or at the pool. The staff really does stand out at this spot – and though we always try and leave a small tip at the table after meals and for the cleaning staff daily we did notice that many guests do not show their appreciation this way. Give a little back folks. At home you would not think of eating without tipping. We would definitely consider this lovely resort again. Read less

Portions are small, overall food is just ok with not much variety. We upgraded to a pool/garden view, which was the top of a tree and a side of a building but didn’t really bother us much. The rooms are nice and clean. The people and staff are fantastic and seem to care about your experience. The most disappointing part of the whole week, was the birthday party for a 10 or 12 year old that came in for a day. The resort is very relaxed and mostly older guests. To have 8-10 kids come in for the day take over the pool, which is on the smaller side but good for the number of guests. The kids were loud, jumping in the pool and palsying around. The kids did not do anything wrong, but I would recommend to management that this is not the environment or set up for a kids birthday party. Read less

Just got back from a five day break at this hotel. Positives first: the setting and beach is beautiful however beach very small, looks like it’s corroding away for the amount of people in the hotel. Everything is outside and unfortunately it rained for three days of our stay, if there were entertainment, bars indoors we could of spent more time around the hotel however had to spend most of it in our room. Luckily it had Netflix but you do t go to Barbados to watch Netflix. Entertainment was in a pop up tent next to beach and no comfortable seating areas to sit and watch, so it’s basically have your meal and go to bed. Only one restaurant/beach hut to eat and worst buffet breakfast I’ve ever had abroad. Definitely not a four star. There is a small posher restaurant but only allowed to us it once. Lack in atmosphere but very nice food. Food the bar staff very abrupt and rude at times, be aware you have to wear your masks all the time. I forgot once and they would serve me and was extremely rude to me. I definitely would not recommend this hotel. A shame as with tweaks and configuration of the hotel it could be ok. The reception area and only indoor area it spilt but all the staffs desks. Just a tunnel and walk way out of the hotel. I found that the arrival very abrupt too. Be aware after a long flight you have to download an app to check in and you need to fill lots of information out. Flight numbers, passport numbers, emergency numbers. The staff also do not tell you anything g about the hotel. Make sure you don’t get rooms at front of hotel as bedrooms are very noisy with main road, bars and restaurant noises. Car horns going off all the time. I found a nice spa with hotel but well hidden. Beautiful massage at a resolvable price so that’s worth a visit. Read less
