We spent 12 nights at Waves celebrating a wedding anniversary staying in a Ocean Front room. Overall it was a very enjoyable holiday with lots of very positive aspects. However we were paying a lot of money for the stay so I have reviewed it on the basis that we expected a wonderful experience and there were a few things that could have been better. The hotel is very well situated close to Bridgetown and has both a 'sea side' where we stayed and a 'spa side' (adults only) across the road. The sea side is literally right on the sea. The lounge and Seascape dining room have wonderful sea views and we had a superb sea view from our third floor balcony. The room was larger than expected (more a junior suite) and was well furnished with a huge bed. The bathroom was very well appointed but we were rather disappointed with the shower as the water temperature was inconsistent. The hotel is all inclusive and this includes all water sports, a number of Spa treatments and all meals and drinks. There is also complimentary use of a water taxi linking Waves with the other Elegant properties which you can visit and eat at. The beach is quite small and does shelve quite steeply but the loungers are comfortable and the service is reasonably attentive. One drawback is that a visit to the bathroom involves quite a long walk back into the hotel. The water sports are excellent (and underused when we stayed) and the staff running them very helpful. We tried several and would thoroughly recommend trying something new. There is a small and little used pool on the sea side of the hotel, but the main pool is on the spa side and is very pleasant. The spa itself is excellent and we were very impressed with the very good staff and with the treatments we tried. Worth booking early on your stay to get slots that suit. The water taxi service is very good - we spend days at Crystal Cove (nice beach) Tamarind (which we liked a lot - excellent lunch at their beach restaurant) and took the boat right up the the Colony Club and walked the relatively short (but hot) walk to Holetown. The drinks are pretty good quality and the house wine is okay but it costs a lot if you want to purchase wine not included. The evening entertainment is relatively low key but good quality and there are relatively few other organised activities. The hotel run a number of excursions which seem competitively priced . There are two restaurants - the Seascape restaurant (which is where breakfast is served as well as lunch and dinner), and Shiso which is a Asian more formal restaurant on the Spa side. There is also a coffee shop which serves 'snack' lunches and was rather underused when we were there. Breakfast was very good with reasonable choice (however there are a lot of birds in the restaurant which is open to the elements so if you have a bird phobia don't sit at the edge by the sea) Our main complaint was that you had to decide at breakfast where you wanted to eat that evening and at what time. This seemed a bit restrictive and if you turned up latish for breakfast as we tended to we found we had limited options (e.g. Shisho fully booked and only very late slots available in Seascape). The food itself was a little disappointing - the menu repeats every week and on two nights of the week there is a buffet and Shisho is shut. Lunch is also a buffet. They had made a good effort generally to cater for vegetarians but the vegetarian choice was sometimes very limited in the buffets. Some of the food was excellent, some of it rather average. Shisho had some excellent Sushi but some of the Asian dishes were of limited resemblance to the menu description. Most reviews have said the staff are wonderful. Many of them were certainly very friendly and tried very hard to be helpful. However some of the dinner service was a bit haphazard, and they didn't always seem to cope very well with the unexpected. We haven't stayed on Barbados before but it wasn't any different from our previous experience in the Caribbean. More generally get out and see the island and try the local buses which are a good experience. Read less

What can I say that all the other reviews have not already said? This is a fantastic hotel where all the staff go the extra mile to be friendly and help in any way they can. When you walk past a maintenance man and he stops to ask how you are and wish you a good day you know you are in the right place. Every member of staff was just so friendly and always had a smile and a laugh. The food is very good with the option of the coffee shop at lunchtime if the huge buffet is just too much. The beach is small but we had no problem getting a sun lounger with an umbrella. It was great to be served drinks and ice cream on the beach. The boat taxi/bus was great and stuck to the timetable and we were able to visit the other local properties. They were good but we always felt that we were coming home when the boat pulled up on our beach. Reggae music was playing in the background all the time which just added to the atmosphere. We are so sorry that this fantastic hotel has had to shut and we would love to return next year. Read less

We had the pleasure of staying at Waves for 7 nights from 15th March. We arrived to drinks and very friendly faces before being shown to our beautiful ocean front room (the tips are right, if you value a gorgeous view, ask for a room on a higher level). The room was always a nice cool relief from the sunshine and was cleaned immaculately every day. Both restaurants were fabulous, serving delicious food that was presented beautifully. We especially enjoyed Shisho and the sweet treats from coffee house and deli. The beach was stunning and was where we spent most of our time. Although narrow, it never felt crowded and was very serene. The beach ambassadors were amazing and kept us comfortable and hydrated the entire time. The staff are what make this hotel special. We would like to offer HUGE thank yous to every member of staff working at the hotel during our stay. We were at Waves during the coronavirus outbreak and were some of the last guests to leave before closure. The coronavirus is wreaking havoc everywhere across the world. Our holiday had the potential to be ruined by panic and mayhem but every single member of staff wore a smile and stayed relaxed which projected onto us as guests. Thank you so much for taking great care of us at a time when I am sure so many of you would have preferred to prioritise your own families and loved ones. Whatever the outcome of this scary time we are living through, we both send all of our well wishes and love to every Waves employee. Stay safe and hopefully we will see you all again soon. Read less

It also helped that people we met on holiday last year had also come back to Waves at exactly the same two weeks. All the staff are amazing but a big thank you to Kenny for the wonderful cocktails, Sheryl for the fantastic omelettes & Chad & Pamela for serving us refreshments at the beach & poolside. We unfortunately visited just as the coronavirus took hold and we were the last guests arriving on the island for a 2 week holiday. As the time went by the hotel got quieter & quieter with many of the staff having their hours reduced or were being laid off. This did not damper the staffs smiles or williness to help & serve you. They are a credit to the Manager Kim & the hotel. Even though the guests dwindled the food, entertainment & service did not falter. Well done to you all. We shall be back next year to support you all as you try to recover from the lack of tourists this year & hope to see the same staff back in their existing roles. Read less

Our second visit to waves having been last year and we weren't disappointed. The fantastic staff made our holiday once again. Great food, drinks and service, nothing was too much trouble. We visited Tamarind and Crystal Cove on the dine around programme and neither came near to waves. Although the pools at Crysral Cove being near the beach was wonderful on a few days when the sea was too rough to swim in. The spa was excellent and appreciated as treatments were included in our stay. We'd love to return and hope it won't be too long until we do. If you're looking for a quiet relaxing break you can't go wrong with waves. Plenty of places to visit around the island. We loved Hunte's gardens and went on a fabulous tour with taxi driver Stevon Roberts, who took us all along the beautiful beaches of the south coast and then to the gardens. Really good value for money and an excellent guide. Book him at reception. Read less
