The hotel

This chic hotel is reputed to have some of the friendliest staff on the island! It's also located across the road from St. Lawrence Bay where the waters are exceptionally shallow at low tide — enabling you to safely walk miles into the ocean (you might see some turtles along the way!). There’s a lovely restaurant on-site or you can head round the corner to the centre of St. Lawrence Gap for some lively nightlife. Refurbished studio rooms have large balconies offering stunning views, a kitchenette and complimentary WiFi.

A little nervous on arrival being handed a physical key and being directed up two flights of stairs to our room a bit addled by 9 hours of flying and about 6 hours of airports and hauling a massive bag with stuff for a 2 week stay, but the hotel quickly grew on me. Desk staff were friendly and efficient. Maintenance staff were also friendly, professional, and efficient. The room was spotless, spacious, and comfortable. The beds slightly worn and a bit springy, but fine. The Air Conditioning (we're from Ireland and we needed it) was on point. The bathroom roomy and clean, good hot water. The fridge and kitchenette were great, and functional. To save a few bucks we made dinner one night (linguine carbonara) and there were enough pots and pans etc to get the job done. The balcony is nice, great view towards Worthing Beach (go there, it's a little less hectic than Dover Beach and Seafood Shack is worth a visit). However, the balcony is made a little uncomfortable by the hot air outlet from the AC equipment (but fantastic to speed up drying damp pool/beach clothes and towels). Food and drink at the On The Bay restaurant/bar were good. Breakfasts were fantastic. The drinks were strong and tasty but a bit watered during Happy Hours. The stay wasn't glitch free: we found booking a tour through the hotel to be a bit tricky (had to make a dash to an ATM to provide a deposit in cash which was book directly through Viator etc and save some hassle), the toilet was blocked on day 2 (quickly and efficiently dealt with by front desk and staff), the gas to the cooker was cut off in the middle of making the aforementioned carbonara (also quickly dealt with), and the toilet handle broke - also pretty quickly dealt with. These are all pretty minor and could happen anywhere. If you're looking for a standard hotel experience in 'The Gap', don't overlook the Yellow Bird. It's comfy and affordable, the staff are great, food prices aren't bad for the area. Get B&B if you can, the breakfasts are really good. If you want to save a few bucks and prepare your own food, skip Clifton Market and go to Trimart Supermarket with local stuff and local prices. If you're looking for direct Beach Access, this is not the spot for you as the tiny beach is kind of a working beach for local fisherman and gets quite rough at high tide. At low tide, it's pretty decent with some walkable sandbars not far out and probably pretty good for snorkelling. From the hotel it's a 5 minute walk to Worthing Beach, and probably a 15 minute walk to the rentable chairs and brollies at Dover Beach. Thanks to Michelle and Monique at the desk for all the help and advice. Read less

We had a car but taxis are readily available just outside the hotel. The room was clean (thanks Ms. Sonya) and well furnished to make our stay a comfortable one away from home. While the pool was small we barely used it since the beaches and activities around the island kept us busy most of the stay. The breakfast was well made, my 3 year old loved her pancakes and hot chocolate. Thank you for a lovely stay. I would definitely do it again if I had to. Read less

Staff all very helpful all round. Easy access to main road behind hotel where the busses are frequent and cheap. We caught the bus down to Oistins and back for the fish fry, we went down about 5 pm just before it starts to get busy and had a great evening. Most of the convenience stores you can get most essentials but found that Masseys supermarket had everything you should need. Good base to explore Barbados Read less

We went for breakfast daily but didn't stay at the hotel. We always received a warm welcome. The view from the restaurant is a sea one, really lovely. The food was always spot on, recommend the omlette's although the pancakes were also delicious. Would go there again in an instance X
