The hotel

This chic hotel is reputed to have some of the friendliest staff on the island! It's also located across the road from St. Lawrence Bay where the waters are exceptionally shallow at low tide — enabling you to safely walk miles into the ocean (you might see some turtles along the way!). There’s a lovely restaurant on-site or you can head round the corner to the centre of St. Lawrence Gap for some lively nightlife. Refurbished studio rooms have large balconies offering stunning views, a kitchenette and complimentary WiFi.

Yellow Bird is a charming, small family run hotel located overlooking St. Lawrence Bay at the West end of St. Lawrence Gap, between the two larger beaches of Worthing and Dover, the nearest being Worthing Beach. All the rooms are facing the bay, which is a charming fishing bay, which also has a small tidal beach and relatively calm shallow waters teaming with aquatic life. At low tide you can wade past the headland straight on to Worthing Beach. There is also a sand bar that stretches out into the ocean allowing treks quite a long way into the ocean, subject to tides and conditions. We encountered turtles almost every day, mostly Green, with the occasional Hawksbill. We were informed that Leatherbacks can also be seen but did not encounter any. The rooms provide ample space for two people and are well enough equipped to make a two week stay comfortable, our room was in the 3rd level from where we could enjoy the peaceful views across Lawrence Bay and stunning sunsets. The cleanliness of the rooms and throughout the hotel was great, made even more important during these hygiene conscious times. The staff at Yellow Bird are all very friendly and are always willing to help and assist where necessary. There is a swimming pool with sunbeds, although sun bathing space is limited, although hotel is always willing to lower a parasol or two if any guest needs to snatch a bit more sunshine. We found the shade a great way to acclimatise ourselves to the strong Caribbean Sunshine over the first two days before venturing out to Worthing Beach, where we tended to spend the rest of our days thereafter. And there was always the welcome of a shower and refreshing dip in the pool upon return from a hard days slog on the beach. Yellow Bird has a restaurant “On the Bay” serving fresh local and international food. Apart from one morning when we ventured further afield, we had had breakfast most mornings; the average cost for two settings for us was BBD 43, including all taxes. I would say that our breakfast choices were modest and it would cost more if you are hungrier (Approx. BBD 75 for 2 x full English). We also ate in On the Bay on several evenings with costs for 2x dinner with drinks ranging between BBD 100 to 150, including taxes. FYI “taxes” are VAT 10%, Product Levy 2.5% and Service Charge 10%, this is pretty much standard everywhere. We found the food to be great for our needs and the setting overlooking St. Lawrence Bay is glorious at all times. You will appreciate that during the period of our stay, things changed quite dramatically and tourist numbers depreciated greatly. In full swing The Gap is a very lively place and the partying does go on into the early hours. Whilst it did not bother us, there is little escape from the noise of the party, and light sleepers need to be aware of this. We came to Barbados to chill and relax and Yellow Bird helped us achieve this. I am told that many guests return and I can understand why, we certainly hope that we can visit Yellow Bird again when things return to normal. Thank you to all at Yellow Bird for helping to make this trip so memorable. Read less

Stayed here for 10 days. All the staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. Could not say anything negative at all about this hotel, very clean and the restaurant was really good food. The room was very spacious and the kitchen was more than adequate for making breakfast and lunch.
