There’s a lovely restaurant on-site or you can head round the corner to the centre of St. Lawrence Gap for some lively nightlife. We visited the island last weekend for a four night golf trip. I went to see the Yellowbird in July when I was in Barbados as our original hotel had been in contact to tell us they were having renovations and it would be best to book elsewhere. I met with Geeta who showed me around and I made the decision to book the twelve of us in. What a good decision that turned out to be. It’s a fantastic hotel, with lovely, clean, well equipped rooms, right at the start of the Gap. The restaurant is great and the food very reasonably priced. Nothing is too much for the staff and given we had to leave at 8am each morning for golf, the staff would have our breakfast ready for 7.30am so we could get out on time fed and watered. Everyone on our trip thought the place was fantastic and have already said they’d like to come back again. It was a blessing in disguise that our original hotel was out of action. 10/10 Read less

I was very excited to see the very nice new renovations they did to the restaurant. It looks beautiful and the Mahi Mahi fish I had for lunch was better then at the 5 star Primo restaurant next door. Thank you for another lovely stay. The only negative was that I didn’t get to stay month enough. Next time! Read less

We are regular travellers to St Vincent & The Grenadines. Our flights go via Barbados and this was the very first time we decided to spend a few days on the island on our return leg to the UK. We had a fantastic time at The Yellow Bird, St Lawrence gap. Yellow Bird is a lovely boutique hotel opposite a small bay feeding into the Atlantic ocean. Our 4th floor hotel room overlooked the bay and was strikingly beautiful particularly at sunrise and as the sun goes down. The rooms were very clean, spacious and the air conditioning was a welcome relief although we switched to the ceiling fans during the middle of the night. The hotel is surrounded by numerous bars and restaurants. We took a particular fancy to a Jamaican restaurant called Jerk Kitchen a short walk from the hotel. As we were only there for three nights, and it was at the end of our trip to the Caribbean, we did not want to have too hectic a programme. Our activities were limited to a long walk down to Dover beach which is a lot further away than meets the eye. Dover Beach is everything you want the Caribbean to be soft, white powdery sand, deep blue water and the opportunity to lounge around sipping cocktails while people watching. We spent the first night with some friends who we knew were going to be on the island at Champers, an upscale restaurant overlooking the Atlantic ocean. The food was excellent and the ambience exquisite. The next day we went on a trip around Barbados with Williams Tours. Rooster was our guide. What a character! He’s entertaining, knowledgeable and saucy! The island itself is very flat compared to St Vincent, which is mountainous with a volcano, waterfalls and lush vegetation. Barbados was a revelation though, outside of the tourist areas there are fantastic places to visit. We went to the Clifton Hall plantation and had an entertaining, journey through the history of the house by the owner, a Scottish Italian lawyer, Massimo who restored it from a derelict building to the really, truly impressive and inspiring state that it is in now. He’s a great storyteller! Barbados is a beautiful island. We drove to the area called Scotland with its scenic views, saw disused windmills and the Heritage railway, skimmed the shores of Bathsheba and whisked through the old town of Bridgetown. It is a place of contrasts with exceptionally wealthy areas frequented by Hollywood A listers and very commercial areas where the bulk of people gather. If there is any place you must go to while there, it’s ‘Earthworks’ a creative pottery powerhouse about 30 minutes from St Lawrence Gap. The artists and potters were so creative. It was an explosion of colour and amazing to see how imaginative people can be even with broken bits of ceramic. The afternoon was rounded off by a long stroll along Worthing Beach which was 5 minutes’ walk from the hotel. The staff at Yellow Bird were wonderful. The reception staff were well informed and extremely helpful. They were incredibly responsive, and nothing ever seemed to be a problem. The restaurant manager, Miss Ali was wonderful. She made our stay excellent just by being warm and personable with that extra bit of care to make sure that everything was just right for us. The Bajan fish cakes and fried plantains with a ‘blended fruit cocktail were heaven. We travel to the Caribbean fairly often and hope to continue doing so, adding a few days at Yellow Bird looks like it could become a regular stop over for us. Read less
