The hotel

There’s something special about staying in a family run resort. It adds an air of authenticity, a warmer kind of welcome, and little extras which bigger hotels might just forget about. That’s what you get with True Blue Bay Boutique Resort. The owners know just what you need for a stay on this south coast bay, and they include family musts like a kids' playground and activities, local touches like rum and chocolate tasting, and free treats like Hobie cats, ocean kayaks and yoga classes. They even run a complimentary shuttle to Grand Anse Beach, and BBC Beach in Morne Rouge. Designing the hotel themselves, the Fielden family have added Caribbean touches throughout the resort, as well as those things you’d only expect from a big-name hotel; including four pools, a spa, a boutique, fresh bakery, escape room game, and a PADI-certified dive centre.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Despite a somewhat late check-in due to rooms being prepared, we had an enjoyable stay. The resort is gorgeous with fun and quirky decor and a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere. The breakfast is delicious and our room was comfortable and well supplied.

My review is a mix of positives and areas for improvement. While the rooms, pool, and breakfast dock area could use some refreshing, some standout features make this hotel worth considering. Breakfast was a bit repetitive, with the same selection each morning. The warm selection, which included omelette, bacon, sausage, vegetables, and salt fish, remained unchanged. The only noticeable change was in the fruit juice. The staff are 90% fantastic! Friendly, helpful, and always ready to say hello. 10% need retraining. You can say hello, and they will look at you but ignore you entirely. There were a couple of ladies at reception. Wow, they talked to each other and completely behaved like you were not standing there. It's a shame, as the other staff were so lovely. The few sullen members of the team ruin it for the rest. The food in the restaurant was a highlight of our stay, consistently fantastic and a true delight for the taste buds. We found ourselves returning to the restaurant multiple times, each visit a culinary adventure. The drinks and bar staff were equally impressive, adding to the overall dining experience. The street food night on Wednesdays is a must! What an absolutely amazing night with excellent entertainment. Take a tour with Aquanauts straight off the True Blue dock, which is such a bonus, I had a fabulous morning snorkelling. We did have a great holiday, but we took advantage of catching the shuttle to the beach more often than not, as the beds around the pool needed updating. While we were there, it was my partner's birthday, and the hotel marked the occasion with a birthday message and a bottle of wine in the room. Read less

I checked out just hours after checking in. The room was far below the standards expected of a purported 4.5-star resort. I checked out just hours after checking in. The room was far below the standards expected of a purported 4.5-star resort. Upon arrival, I was shocked to find black mold, dusty lamps, and hair in the shower. The bathroom light, oddly, was operated by pulling a string - a feature more suited to a budget motel than a luxury resort. The patio furniture was stained, and the beams showed visible rust. Alarmingly, the window screens appeared bent, raising security concerns. A broken blind mechanism further added to the room's neglect. Despite reporting these issues, neither maintenance nor housekeeping addressed them during my short stay. The staff's lack of follow-up was frustrating. Additionally, staff initially quoted an outrageous $100 nightly fee for a microwave—a basic amenity that should be standard. While they eventually provided one complimentary, this initial response was disappointing. This experience fell drastically short of a luxury resort stay. The substandard conditions and unresponsive service led to my premature departure, and I was thoroughly unsatisfied Read less

Our family returned less than 5 months after our first visit and we loved it... again! Last time we stayed in the Waterfront Suites, this time we stayed in the True Blue Villas, which fit our large family of two 10 year olds and one 6 year old. We requested a rollaway bed a day prior and it was neatly placed in the villa on our arrival. The children stayed in one bedroom which had an ensuite, and a TV which they loved. It had multiple outlets, including 110v (American) which worked for our family as we all have 110v devices. My husband and I had the king room which too was an ensuite, with a TV. It was spacious and very comfortable. The children enjoyed spending time upstairs in the living room and loved their cheeky midnight plunge pool soaks. The property has 4 pools which we all enjoyed, watersports (Kayaking), the beach pool was the best! The children probably went down 8,000 times. We spent most of our days by the pool beach bar. Sky was hilarious and his personality was amazing. He encouraged guests to meet and chat. Another amazing staff member was Nick. Nick was a blast, amazing personality and knows what his guests wanted (remembering our orders was an ease for him). There was also another bartender who was originally from Trinidad and Tobago and was a gem! The restaurant staff was very kind. There was one pregnant lady who was working as though she wasnt carrying a baby! In general they were all very pleasant. One of the members at breakfast need serious training, other than that it was a lovely experience to wake up on the water with a buffet. The wait times improved TREMENDOUSLY, however it is clear the staff is overworked. Not because of their demeanor, but because there were some days we saw the same server for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She never broke a smile. We realized day passes and staycations are a big money generator for the hotel, but at the same time, guests should still be prioritized. Many would come to the pool beach and stake out on the cabanas for their full day stay. Others crowding the slide area, and some teenagers were too big to be using the slide safely. Overall, we will be back... AGAIN! Read less

Amazing family friendly resort. My family and I were there for 8 days , with 3 adults and 2 children. As luck would have it , we arrived a couple of days before Hurricane Beryl. That meant that we did not get to spend the time on the beach or touring the island. We spent over half of our time on the resort. However, we felt very safe and well taken care of. The staff kept us abreast every step of the way, there was a Whatsapp group with frequent updates as well as daily briefings from the management. Asa result, there were no surprises. They ensured that all the guests were in the safer villas and rooms. That meant moving a significant portion of us from waterfront rooms but they did this quite efficiently . In addition, ensured that we had lots of food and water and supplies for the time that we would be under the hurricane. The staff went above and beyond, the ones who stayed on site did a great job ensuring that we were well taken care of. In fact, after the hurricane had passed, my son wanted ice cream, he fell in love with the nutmeg ice cream and they ensured that he got some every night, including that first night after the hurricane had passed. They were very responsive to requests whether it was a shuttle to the beach or to go into the capital. There was a street food night and that had lots of tasty local dishes to sample. In addition, they had local dishes on the menu on a daily basis which is always a plus. The downside as mentioned in other posts, they are not on the beach and so you have to reserve or request a shuttle to go to the beach. Other than that it was a wonderful stay in spite of the hurricane . Lots of smiles , friendly staff and the feeling of being at home. I would highly recommend this resort and would return there again. Read less
