The hotel

There’s something special about staying in a family run resort. It adds an air of authenticity, a warmer kind of welcome, and little extras which bigger hotels might just forget about. That’s what you get with True Blue Bay Boutique Resort. The owners know just what you need for a stay on this south coast bay, and they include family musts like a kids' playground and activities, local touches like rum and chocolate tasting, and free treats like Hobie cats, ocean kayaks and yoga classes. They even run a complimentary shuttle to Grand Anse Beach, and BBC Beach in Morne Rouge. Designing the hotel themselves, the Fielden family have added Caribbean touches throughout the resort, as well as those things you’d only expect from a big-name hotel; including four pools, a spa, a boutique, fresh bakery, escape room game, and a PADI-certified dive centre.

There’s a great kids menu in the restaurant with lots of options (service does take a while so bring something to occupy the little ones!) we stayed in one of the villas - it was fantastic. Had its own plunge pool which was amazing- it was spacious, clean and cool! Room service and cleaning was excellent. Pools are lovely, drinks are delicious - a fun place. We took the free shuttle to Grand Anse and BBC beach, and also hired a car one day to explore on our own - reception sorted this out for us during our visit. We had the pleasure of meeting Russ - the owner - who was charming and enthusiastic. The hotel had lots of eco-credentials - encourages recycling, no plastic bottles etc - which is nice to see. My dive and travel experience: 2375 dives since certification in 1999 Scuba Instructor 97.5 weeks of out of the country scuba experience (Not USA) I was a bit reluctant when our travel agent suggested Grenada for one of our yearly group trips, but I was willing to try something different. Generally, we do our group trips to locations where my wife and I have been in the past, but this trip was an exception. I got to say this was a fabulous place for a change from the usual Bonaire, Roatan, Cayman's and Cozumel for scuba diving and just plain fun. Lets start with the resort which was True Blue Bay. I have a really difficult time giving any resort or hotel five stars, but aside from a couple issues with the restaurant several of us in our group who travel a lot have deemed it to be a top three best dive resort in the Caribbean and all of us agreed that we would definitely return to this resort someday. That is quit a honor to be in the top three. The resort is well manicured and nicely decorated. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. The room was also clean. The only issues I had with the rooms are that the hot water was not always hot enough (more warm), the walls in places could use some paint and some of the curtains did not open as they should. The restaurant had a great oceanside atmosphere with mostly good service. I was not the happiest with breakfast as nothing was ever ready when it was suppose to be, but the choices were adequate. If you want pancakes you will need to wait almost 30 minutes for them. The lunches were on a preorder system from breakfast and very very good and served timely. We forgot to preorder once and it took a long time to get it. The dinners were great, but don't be in a hurry. As a group of 18, meals tended to take longer. We were not in a hurry as we are all friends and the meal package includes alcohol. The extra time gave us time to hang out. The staff in the restaurant were polite and handled our group well. If you are a big eater and on the meal plan you can order a starter, main and dessert. They also had no issue with ordering extras like French fries or sweet potato fries. For most dinners there was live entertainment ranging from small bands to local singers. The dive shop and dive crew were on site and managed through Aquanaut Divers. They were all great! We had mostly the same staff on our boat all six days and had absolutely no complaints. The safety briefing covered all of the required information and the crew was fun. The dive boats were spacious and not overcrowded. As a group we did a two excursions which can be done in one day or split into two. The first day we did the Seven Sisters Waterfall. This was a four hour trip when including the drive time. The hike itself is about 45 minutes each way and really not for the elderly or out of shape. Once you arrive at the falls they are beautiful and the hike is nice also. The second trip was also four hours and we visited the chocolate house, the rum distillery, the fort and a smaller waterfall. This was also a nice excursion. Now for the diving. When it comes to wrecks Grenada is in my opinion the top spot in the Caribbean. During our 12 group dives we did five or six wreck dives. Some of these wrecks were huge. We probably could have done more wrecks but we requested a split between wrecks and reefs. I would give Grenada an B+ to A- for its wreck dives. The only reason why I don't give it a better rating is the two largest wrecks are very deep and you really don't have time to explore them. The conditions when diving was about 81 to 82 degree water and visibility on the reefs ranges from 40 to 80 feet. I would give the fish life on the reefs a C rating and the quality of the reefs a C+. The OTF (other than fish such as eels, lobster, crabs etc..) rating was in my opinion a B-. If you want to do an amazingly good night dive then sign up for theirs. It had tons of small crabs, three turtles and lots of macro. One last thing about Grenada. They are know as the friendly island. And for the most part that was definitely true. There were a few exceptions, but compared to other Caribbean Islands this was a very friendly place. Read less

Our children, ten and six, roamed the grounds and played in the playground and docks until our lunch and dinner were ready. Now here's the only issue, the meals took 1 hour and a half + to arrive. Regardless of the traffic in the restaurant. However, we found this to be typical to Grenada, as we spent the day at various high end restaurants like Mount Cinnamon. The room was clean, quiet and extremely spacious for our family. The buffet breakfast was tasty, the many pools were a plus! We will definitely be back!!! Read less

We had a wonderful stay in a lovely room with a great shower and useful mini kitchen. Our room lead out to the beautiful lap pool. Very friendly and helpful staff in a family owned hotel. Really good yoga classes in great studio. Easy to get to the beautiful beach on the shuttle bus.
