The beach in front of our "beach front apartment" was covered in decaying seaweed which started to smell really bad , spoke to front desk twice and still for next four days one staff member with a five gallon bucket and a rake work on clearing the end of the beach away from us , we had three couples in three apartments who spent five days at founders cove but could not use the beach , the whole point of paying for a beach fronted apartment . The website says you can eat and drink at the hibiscus pool but that is not correct as we found out that had changed we had to search and find pool towels every time we used hibiscus pool and the one member of staff never left there post to serve or help guests. Three times on three different days i ordered a mojito and was told that they had no mint, three times i pulled mint that i had picked from there own herb garden by the spa but none of the bar staff knew it existed , bring your own ingredients i guess. Dinner at delmare was ok Dinner at sugar mill was poor, we had a group of 12 and every steak was over cooked for the six guests who had ordered it, it was a 7.30 reservation food came at 9.00pm dint send back as was getting late for some. Staff were great cooking lacked skill, finesse and proper temps on meats. Overall lots of staff not doing an awful lot, seemed to be inconvenienced by guest requests lots of really slow service ( 8 of us waited 20 minutes for drink menu ) and eye rolling when asking for service which should come automatically. Both myself and my fiance were very disappointed and that after two meetings with management still felt that we were not being heard. By far the best staff members were the gentlemen who drive you around on the complimentary golf cats, fun friendly informative and loved what they did and it showed , get that passion into other areas and you could call yourselves the best , but at the moment your not and most of my wedding guests (14 of them) all told me that food and service is way better at Sandals in jamaica. The staff members were friendly and inviting and really helped make the trip a memorable one. We stayed in the Rose Hall Villas. Our chef, Suzan was amazing. She made such wonderful food and extra special treats for the children. The butler in the Villa, Gawain, was outstanding. He was very thoughtful and courteous and really did an amazing job making sure the house was well stocked and that all of the guests needs were attended to. Our house keeper, Angela, did a wonderful job of making the rooms tidy and neat. It was such a pleasure to stay at the resort, especially with the staff of our villa. They really made our stay special. Read less

Half Moon is always a wonderful experience for us. We stayed at the Prestige Ocean Suite. It is a really nice room that leads directly out to the beach. Service was top notch and the infinity pool at the Eclipse is amazing. Spend some time at the spa and you will not regret it. Mosquitoes were a problem so bring strong repellant.

I haven't written many reviews lately because I have been underwhelmed by most resorts. However, Half Moon was such an amazing experience that I had to write a review! We stayed at another resort in Montego Bay last time, but it did not compare to Half Moon. Pros: Rooms: We stayed in a Junior Suite in the Founders Cove and loved it. The room was really spacious and we were just a few steps away from the water. I was told that the Eclipse section is newer and more modern. Crowds: Maybe July is the slower season, but I really enjoyed having space to relax and not having to deal with crowds at this resort. Food: We appreciated that Half Moon offers a variety of food options at different price points. Staff: We had wonderful interactions with the following staff members: Cherisse (Cedar Bar) always remembered our names and our preferences. Stacy Ann (Front Desk) was very kind and professional consistently. Shauntell (Cedar Lounge) was an excellent server and so thoughtful! Kori (Lobby) was extremely pleasant and really seems to enjoy his job. Tashauna (Cedar Breakfast Cafe) also remembered our names and even the milk we prefer! Activities: We loved seeing the baby turtles released. The free bikes were also a great touch. Cons: There were a few unexpected fees that almost tainted our visit and would lead us to consider other resorts in Montego Bay for our next trip. The meals in restaurants always added a 25% fee (15% Service Fee and 10% GCT). Also, there were a few hundred dollars charged for our room taxes/fees that we were not expecting. Overall, Half Moon was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it! Read less
