Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa

Montego Bay, Jamaica

The hotel

Lying on a beautiful, long stretch of private beach, this tropical resort is situated in 400 lush acres of an 18th-century sugar plantation. There’s a large main swimming pool, but everyone (kids' especially) loves the Sugar Mill Falls Waterpark, which is the largest in Jamaica. Why not grab a tube and float down the ‘lazy river’ or try one of the slides. Water sports are available from the brand new beach, overlooking the sparkling Caribbean Sea. There’s also a daily kids' club, leaving you with time to recharge in the full-service spa, or why not try out the Championship golf course, tennis and the popular aerobics classes. A variety of restaurant options with fine dining and sophisticated wine lists are on-site. The most romantic restaurant is the Three Palms, up on the hillside looking down over the hotel and the sea beyond.

The nightly entertainment was fantastic! The free water sports they offer are fun. However, I would strongly encourage everyone to pay to go snorkeling and tubing/banana boating. You can pay for day excursions away from the hotel but they are pricey. Most of the attractions on the island are located on the other side of the island. The spa was beautiful and the masseuse was great. Overall a wonderful stay. Read less

The resort is recommended. We drove by other resorts in the Rose Hall area and the resorts did not compare to Hilton Rose Hall. The resort was much bigger and the landscape was far better. The exception was the Hyatt resort which looked good from what I could see from the road (it was surround by a wall). The Hilton Rose Hall resort was very clean and the staff was extremely accommodating to the guest. The staff made a great effort to get you whatever you asked during your stay. The food was overall good and the variety of food was superb. I am particular about food so I can assume that most people would enjoy the food especially the fresh fruit. The resort had themes for the food each of the 4 days we were there such as Jamaican night, etc. The buffet was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The resort has 4 restaurants open throughout the day until night. In addition, there were 3 fine dining restaurants that require reservations (I do not recommend the Italian fine dining restaurant in particular and the other fine dining restaurants were mediocre). Furthermore, the resort has a coffee/dessert cafe and juice bar. The drinks were in constant flow and unlimited. It has 2 pools including a lazy river with a water fall and 2 water slides. We always found a chair and space around the pool areas to relax or enjoy the pools. I had a oceanfront room which was beautiful but the partial oceanfront rooms provide a good view. The resort had planned events from morning to late night. But I found myself just wanting some quiet time instead of reggae music or guest games. The golf course was a beautiful addition to the resort. The ocean water was beautiful. The furniture was of contemporary design and plentiful seating throughout the resort. The layout of the resort was was well planned and compliments the oceanviews. We had no problems when we went off the resort to taste authentic Jamaican food at the popular restaurants and shop in the Hip Strip of downtown Montego Bay. The resort could improve on the following: shorter check in time (although providing tropical drinks upon entry helped the wait), the inconvenience of needing your towel card to get a towel, flies during the day and mosquitoes at night was very irritating, long wait times until the rooms were ready, the desserts were awful (in my opinion), most alcoholic drinks were weak, watered down salad dressing and cheese for the nachos ruined the salads and snack, the ocean brought in seaweed which touched your feet while in the ocean (pet peeve) and the price to travel off the resort by taxi or to see popular tourist attractions such as Dunn’s River was excessive. We were lucky to meet a taxi cab driver by the name of Charles. He was reasonably priced and we used him exclusively when we left the resort. Read less

This is my third year in a row, going to the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & the only reason I return every year is because the food is amazing and the shuttle service to and from the nightclubs every night. This time round my experience has been awful... .. when I arrived I was told the shuttle service to the clubs have stopped,I explained to the reception that it still states on the website that the shuttle service is still on going and if i had knew the shuttle service has stopped i wouldn't have booked the hotel. The lady on reception informed me that it stopped three months prior to my arrival due to state of emergency in montego bay and kindly referred us to a hotel taxi to use to go to the clubs and stated it will cost $70 to go 15minutes down the road to margerittaville and $70 to return. As a tourist I felt that we will be more at risk to get in a taxi, rather than if the shuttle bus was provided it would be much more safer being that it's state of emergency!!!and we should be given the choice to take rhe shuttle bus or not. I would advise on other hotels in montego bay as they provide free shuttle service. I felt I was stuck in the hotel alot as it cost $140 each time I wanted to go out and it was split between two people. The taxi driver the hotel reffered me to charged $70 per person.....baring in mind I paid alot of money to stay 2 weeks and stayed in most of the time as paying $140 depleted my funds. Read less
