Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa

Montego Bay, Jamaica

The hotel

Lying on a beautiful, long stretch of private beach, the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa sits within 400 lush acres and is home to an 18th-century sugar plantation. A popular feature here is the iconic swimming pool but guests (kids' especially) also love the Sugar Mill Falls Waterpark, which is the largest in Jamaica. Why not grab a tube and float down the ‘lazy river’ or try one of the slides. There’s also a daily kids' club, leaving you with time to recharge in the full-service spa, or why not try out the Championship golf course. A variety of restaurant options with fine dining and sophisticated wine lists are on-site. The most romantic restaurant is the Three Palms, up on the hillside looking down over the hotel and the sea beyond.

After travelling 10 hrs on a cramped plane, was picked up byTour operators shuttle bus which was lovely and cool, we arrived at the Hotel at 3:30 pm local time. Now the fun begins- 8 desks, 2 Receptionists, 1 hr wait. Room originally advertised as Partial View of Sea, Room given on 5th Floor -1/4 view of sea 3/4 Blue roof felt, return downstairs and said No, not staying there, need new room as per description when booked. Waited another 2 hrs - finally get new room slightly better - got crick neck trying to see the sea but still had a marvellous view of the blue felt roof- ah well had to have room at this time as if we complained we may not get a room until the following morning. was told an upgrade would cost an extra £300- I don't think so chuck!!!. 2 Lifts on West side of hotel where we stayed. One breaks down on 2nd day- (stuck on 5th Floor for 3 days). No message on lift to say broken down for 2 days therefore only one lift working and had to wait nearly 10 mins each time as guests queued on every floor for one lift which was frequently full- Happy days!. Had a fall in room and broke a nail - very painful, partner went down to reception to get a plaster, had to wait in line 15 mins as once again 2 receptionists available, was told that they don't have a 1st Aid Kit available and must contact Nurse. Understandable, but they could not get in touch with Nurse for almost 20 mins and decided to go downstairs to look for nurse, therefore only leave 1 receptionist dealing with some very angry guests. Came back 10 mins later with 1 plaster. Did not realise this was Thanksgiving week, therefore hotel was very full. If I realised this I would not have booked at this time, very noisy and not as relaxing as could have been. Italian restaurant based on site-Luna Di Mare- states formal wear only -no shorts, flip-flops or T-Shirts. We dressed up and hoped it was going to be lovely quiet atmosphere as you had to book a table. What we got was loud, obnoxious guests, not staff, do as like dress sense which none of the staff challenged and made us feel like idiots for adhering to the rules stated on the door of the restaurant and the food was not good- didn't go back there again. Was told of another restaurant based on the Golf side of the hotel- The Three Palms- which you need to also book and taken by shuttle, absolutely wonderful, food gorgeous lovely piano player, brilliant atmosphere total different style and quiet. -Went twice, wanted to go every night but not open everyday. Other food places that were great Mangoes,Jerk Bar and the excellent Moonshine which is located at the end of the beach. Pros :- Most of the staff very helpful and welcoming, food good and most of the time after Thanksgiving-, very relaxing. Room was big, very clean, Mini Bar frequently changed (which we only found out is free on the last day of the holiday!!), Room safe -free of charge. Cons:- Need to step up with the booking in process- more staff available on Reception when planned new arrivals check-in, If Lift out of order, info to be printed on lift straight away and problem rectified as an emergency especially if hotel is at full capacity. Stick to the rules about dress requirements and not allow it to be flaunted. Some nationalities were given preferential treatment over others. Was recommended by nephew who had stayed there Sep 18 who praised the hotel, one of the reasons I booked it. Disappointed with it general as it states as 5/4 Star Rating and it is not. I am of Jamaican descent -parents are Jamaican- been to JA several times and stayed the Royal Decameron in Mo Bay which is given a 3 Star rating - sorry it should be a 4 as it was a better hotel in my book. Unfortunately won't be staying here again. Read less

It was not crowded there the beach could have been better as stated before I found out about Negril 7 mile beach a little too late you might want to ask them about it . The weather was perfect maybe little rain in the morning but nothing to spoil our vacation . Just do yourself a favour and use private transportation . Read less

Firstly I must say the staff were absolutely amazing.. friendly-helpful-polite and fun. The best staff I have met so far on any of my holidays, the service was brilliant. The room we had at first was on the east side- there was a lot of noise but we told the reception and they moved us to the west side- this side was very quite and we faced the golf course which was a lovely view.. room 243- any complaints were dealt with efficiently. The food was good and plentiful. We spent a lot of time on the pier sun bathing it was very peaceful and the staff went out of their way to bring us drinks and serve us .. amazing. The hotel is very clean and the staff was always making sure things were kept clean.. the pool was nice and the area around the pool was kept clean with good entertainment.. the lazy river was fun- the water was very refreshing. The beach was lovely and kept clean.. We went to all of the restaurants and found the Mango restaurant the best - unfortunately it closed at night half way through the holiday.. all staff in all of the restaurants were accommodating and very friendly.. the Jamaica people in the hotel are great people. There was different night time entertainment which was good.. We went on a tour to Bob Marleys birth place which was good.. Crazy the tour guide was fun and informative.. we decided to use the hotel service as Tui was very expensive ! it was a long drive with bumpy roads but Bernard our driver was a wonderful man- friendly helpful and charming.. he made sure we were safe and drove with excellence.. Big up Bernard.. we wanted to experience the shopping centers so Bernard on a different occasion took us shopping and even went into the shops with us to help us get the best deals and service!!! Love this man he is a star⭐️.. we went on the Rose Hall tour - although this is a haunted house it was so much fun .. we jumped out of our skins with this tour .. George the young man working at Rose Hall was so friendly and helpful.. we had a great time and would definitely return one day .. the hotel house keeping supervisor Denny was a charming man- he was helpful and made sure everything were okay.. overall the hotel was good.. with excellent staff and service... I would 💯 ask for Bernard if you want to go on a tour or just a local shopping trip.. the bell boys were amazing too.. lovely trip.. Big thank You to all the staff at Hilton Rose 🌹 Read less

Myself and my partner and 2 others visited the Hilton Rose Hall for a week at the start of December. We arrived at the resort after a 10hr flight from the U.K. and was lucky enough to meet Ian upon check in. A whole extra star rating has been given for him alone. At check in he engaged with us and made us feel special as a Hilton Silver member. He told us this was his second week at the Hilton Rose Hall and It showed (for all the right reasons). Ian tried to accommodate our room requests and put our party as close together as possible and even called us 5 mins after we arrived into the room to make sure we was happy with the room and our requests (what an amazing touch). Our room 761 was on the 7th floor with lovely views of the pool and the sea (although officially is a partial sea view room). The room is large with a supersize king bed, mini fridge with water, sprite, coke and Carib beer all free of charge. As with a lot of Hilton resorts, this one is a little “dated”. Don’t get me wrong the room is nice, but the hotel can do with a revamp. Air conditioning is loud, with no remote. Some tiles on the floor are cracked/stained, there is a lack of plug sockets close to the bed for phone/gadget chargers etc. But I want to stress here, if you want 5* luxury you already know you booked the wrong resort. But if you want a room/resort with a decent price from a well known chain then this wins hands down. The resort has a beautiful pool and water park with jacuzzi (although one was closed when we was here). The gym is compact but well equipped with 4 treadmills, cross trainers, free weights and bikes. There are several restaurants to choose from, all of which serve an excellent choice of food, although the Italian was a little “questionable” So by now, you’re probably asking, “why only 3 stars?” Well the problem with this hotel are the 3 x C’s. Complacency, communication & consistency. For every amazing staff member you meet at the Hilton Rose Hall, you’ll come across one who makes you feel like they don’t really want to be there/care. We had to report some faults with our room and the communication between front desk, maintenance and me as the customer was almost non existent. I feel the Hotel could vastly improve with just the tiniest of changes. Prioritising the customer, making them feel like an individual and be happy to serve. There are definitely individuals who follow this mantra but there are far too many who work for the hotel who need to learn this lesson. Some other noticeable names are Doretta on the tour desk and Audrey who helps to confirm your speciality restaurant reservations. They were excellent. Finally, the cost of products in the gift shop and the Spa are astronomical. $5 for a lighter. $30 for a bottle of rum. $130 for a 50 minute massage in the spa. We left the hotel and purchased the same rum for $17. I also had a 90 minute spa treatment at “Escape to Exhale Day Spa” for just $120 and they offer a return transfer from the hotel to the spa. The spa is situated in a shopping village so you can also shop for all your duty free goods and souvenirs whilst there and give money directly to the locals who offer a cheaper price than those at the hotel. Upon check out we took a late check out room at a cost of $75. This enabled to keep our room until 2pm (an extra 3 hours). Again quite a steep cost to keep a room for a few extra hours. To summarise my review, I would recommend the Hilton Rose Hall. I would visit again. It’s a great hotel in a great spot. I would however encourage management to put ALL of their staff through a customer service review and ensure there is consistency in the level of service being offered to customers and guests alike. I hope management review this review, but management, you have a star on your hands in the shape of Ian. I’ve visited many countries around the world and worked in travel for 10 years and he is top class. For any future guests to the hotel, I hope you also get to meet Ian. Read less
