Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Virgin rating

The hotel

Lying on a beautiful, long stretch of private beach, the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa sits within 400 lush acres and is home to an 18th-century sugar plantation. A popular feature here is the iconic swimming pool but guests (kids' especially) also love the Sugar Mill Falls Waterpark, which is the largest in Jamaica. Why not grab a tube and float down the ‘lazy river’ or try one of the slides. There’s also a daily kids' club, leaving you with time to recharge in the full-service spa, or why not try out the Championship golf course. A variety of restaurant options with fine dining and sophisticated wine lists are on-site, with the newly renovated Rum Factory a particular hit, as is the Three Palms, overlooking the beautifully landscaped golf course.

They have portion that gradually gets deeper which is really nice for the little ones. The beach was very nice and the water was clear on calm days. If you are concerned about a beach with a bunch of seaweed don't be. They have staff grooming the beaches all day. They rocked! Restaurants were all good and the coffee place by the front desk was great! Just wish it opened a bit earlier. Alcohol was decent but ref stripe for beer and average liquors were all plentiful. The only complaint was the rooms were... marginal. We booked a 2 bed queen and the room felt cramped and the bathroom was super small and old. For my UK folks they have your plugs as well as 120v US. Overall great for families however I wouldn't recommend for solo couples as I would look for a property with better rooms. Read less

We had the pleasure of having breakfast at the Moonstone Restaurant every morning. Meloney greeted us by name with a smile everyday! She had our drink order down pat without even having to ask. She interacted with our boys and us like we were family. If you travel to the Rose Hall resort, be sure and ask for her, and tell her Jef and Kristina… Read more

The staff at the resort were amazing! Very friendly and always made sure we were enjoying our stay. We loved the lazy river! The rooms were standard hotel rooms we would see in the states, so I was a little disappointed they were not updated more. The toilet didn’t flush all they way several times, the bed wasn’t overly comfortable, and the pool by the lazy river needed some repairs. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Would I stay at this resort again? Possibly, but it’s not one I would run back to right away. Honestly, the best asset of this resort were the staff. Recommendation- if you go, bring rafts for the lazy river with a way to connect them (I used a series of plastic D clips to hold our rafts together and it worked great) and bring a water bottle that closes. I felt bad for the people having to ride around the lazy river with those paper cups they have because they constantly got water in them. Read less

I honestly don’t know how anyone could not like this resort. From the beautiful views, to the amazing staff, to the delicious food to all of the activities/entertainment; this is by far one of the best all-inclusive resorts we have stayed at (and we’ve stayed at many!) Upon arrival, we were quickly checked in and received the upgrade we requested (from Mountain View to Ocean Front). An Ocean Front room is definitely the way to go! We had beautiful views of the beach, pool and water park. Our room was spacious, however, the AC didn’t work very well. At 65 degrees, our room was still muggy. We ate at the Rum Factory, Mangoes, Moonstone, the Jerk Chicken Hut, the coffee shop and the buffet. All were spectacular! Especially the coffee shop. We loved all of their pastries! Service at all of the restaurants were top notch! For my birthday, my boyfriend arranged for a private dinner under the gazebo and it was truly a magical experience! They decorated the gazebo beautifully and made sure I felt special. We had a 4 course meal and all of it was delicious! I especially enjoyed the chicken and the cheesecake. After dinner, I came back to the room and was surprised that it was decorated with balloons, streamers, rose petals, swans (made from towels); along with champagne/chocolate covered strawberries! The lazy river is so much fun! The life guards do a good job of making sure everyone has a chance with the limited inner-tubes floating around. We rented a private cabana by the beach, which came with a cooler full of drinks and a phenomenal view. Totally worth it!! I would come back here without hesitation in the future! This was by far one of the best trips I’ve been on! Read less

Our family and I have stayed at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa several times. We have unfortunately made the decision not to return due to several mishaps during our most recent stay. But first, I will start with the positives. The breakfast buffet is excellent. Entertainment was good—particularly the steel band and Michael Jackson impersonator. Water Aerobics was fun! The Cafe Shoppe was a hit. The spa experience was great, and the staff there is very friendly. The hotel did a good job of continuously cleaning and wiping down. Sanitizer stations are all around and staff is required to wear masks. Precautions to avoid the spread of covid were taken seriously. Now, the hiccups—I noticed a few days prior to the trip that the price decreased almost $60 per night. I called and requested the new rate be honored and was given the run around. Finally, I was told to screenshot the price and present it at check in. I did this and the front desk staff refused to honor the adjusted pricing although the price reflected so much cheaper online. Extremely disappointing. The arrival process was terrible. The lines were long and moved slowly. My card was swiped multiple times, leaving multiple charges withdrawn from my account. (These amounts were eventually released) My room was not ready at check in despite the early check in request. I had to wait about four hours for my room! My room was ultimately upgraded from a partial ocean view, to a ocean view—for the inconvenience. The rooms are plain and subpar, but clean. The view from the room was breathtaking. My family reserved the cabana Monday through Thursday, but on Wednesday were asked to move because of a double booking. We were again asked to move Thursday from the cabana we specified due to a double booking. Also, we constantly had to ask random people to get up from the cabanas we booked! The staff just didn’t seem to care and was not very helpful. Read less
