The hotel

A contemporary hideaway, the Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall occupies a prime location, nestled between Jamaica’s famous Blue Mountain ridge and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. An adults-only retreat offering "Service from the Heart!", the atmosphere is gorgeously laid-back, ensuring plenty of rest and relaxation on the agenda. The private beach is nearly a mile long with swimmable coves to be alone in. All the usual sporting pastimes are on offer including beach volleyball, tennis, and basketball. When the day fades, there are restaurants and bars galore, not just those belonging to the Zilara but to the family friendly sister hotel, the Ziva, as well, offering 12 distinctly different restaurants to choose from. Feast on cuisines from all around the world, including French, Pan-Asian, Italian, Brazilian and Caribbean. For pre-dinner drinks we recommend the Zilara’s very own Portionz — paying homage to the famed White Witch of Rose Hall — the cocktails are magical!

We had an amazing time. I was a bit disappointed with the room. I stayed in a oceanview king suite, so I had high expectations. They were not met and at these prices, they definitely should have been.

I stayed here for 5 nights with my boyfriend for my birthday. It was my first time visiting Jamaica and first all-inclusive experience. I loved every bit of it. I was greeted with birthday cake and a bottle of champagne in my room. This resort is beautiful. It’s insanely well-kept and huge. I was so impressed by the grounds. The pools were clean and there is beautiful greenery for photo ops at every corner. Not to mention the gorgeous, blue AF ocean (just beware, it is definitely rocky as others have said ESPECIALLY on adults-only side. Ziva side had smaller beaches that were much less rocky). Staff made the trip. The entire resort staff work so hard and are the friendliest people on this planet that will help you with anything. They put me at ease and truly enabled me to fully relax and indulge in this vaca. The food was great, I didn’t have a single bad meal at the buffet or any of the restaurants and I am a foodie. Yes, you have to walk to Ziva side for food and most activities but it’s not a far walk ya’ll. I actually enjoyed walking, it helped me burn some cals from dinner and drinks. Tons of activities, highly recommend a yoga class by the beach. My ONLY feedback: please play more reggae music! The Zilara DJ played a lot of mainstream music, and I understand that it’s part of the party atmosphere but I would have loved to hear more reggae tunes for the island vibes! Read less

This hotel is badly managed and run. When we checked in, there was only one robe and no regular coffee in the room. We called to get another robe and some coffee. Someone arrived with three robes and decaf coffee. We asked again for regular coffee and again someone arrived with decaf coffee, but this time for another kind of machine. Lighting in our room was very poor. There were only two small lamps by the bed and a floor lamp. This made it very difficult to find items in our suitcases. There was no light for the balcony. The system to reserve for dinner at the various restaurants is ridiculous and inefficient. You can only make a reservation one day ahead, so every day you have to go to the lobby during designated hours to make a reservation and the communication between the person making the reservations and the restaurants is poor. One day we overheard a couple refused a reservation for the restaurant they wanted because the restaurant was full. However, later that night, when we were at that restaurant we saw empty tables for the whole hour and a half we were there. Service at some of the restaurants is not good and the food is mediocre at all of them. Many of the staff are pleasant, but there are some very grumpy, sullen staff. The lounges by the adult pool are wicker without cushions and they are not very comfortable. On some days there was a 20-minute wait to get a towel at the pool. When my husband happened to see a manager and mentioned this, her response was, "Put it in your review." So I am. The hotel overall is dirty. We saw broken glass on the walkways. There was melted ice cream and spilled coffee in the elevator which wasn't cleaned up for hours. Signage is almost non-existent in the sprawling grounds and the layout is confusing. Lighting in some areas is very poor. The spa, both the facilities and the treatments, is very ordinary. I had one good massage, but my second body treatment was poor. The masseuse was rough, almost brutal. There was no music in the treatment room and I could hear the air conditioner compressor thumping like a tennis game. This greatly took away from relaxation and enjoyment. There is nothing to recommend about this hotel. Read less

The one thing I didn't add to my review was the $300 deposit they asked for when checking in. We were there from Nov 5-9 and not yet have I been refunded my deposit. Ive called three times. The second time I called which was on Nov. 22 they said that they refunded on that day but because I used a debit card it would probably take 15 to 20 days.… Read more

If this is what Hyatt does can you imagine the interest they make off of holding people's deposit that long. I don't remember when booking the reservation that they we needed to put a $300 deposit down, I'm sure I would not have booked at this hotel. Read less
