My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall. After clearing customs at the airport, there's a Hyatt Lounge near the baggage carousels where you can book a shuttle ride to the resort. The lounge has a couple TVs and some bottled water. A round-trip ride from the airport to the resort is about $40 per person. The trip takes about 10 minutes. The resort is completely fenced in with several security guards on property. The good- 1. The housekeeping person and mini fridge stocker did great jobs. 2. The food was very good at all of the sit down restaurants that we tried. The service at the restaurants was hit or miss. We received excellent service at Urban Heat, Petit Pariz, Choicz Buffet, and lunch at CalypZo. 3. Barefoot Jerkz was my personal favorite for lunch. The Jerk Chicken or Jerk Pork is a must do. 4. There was a fun Jamaican themed party on Friday evening during our stay where local vendors would bring their crafts to sell and the buffet moved outside with several Jamaican dishes to try. 5. The pool and beach were very nice. The sand is a lot nicer close to the pier and ocean gazebo. The beach near the Zilara pool has a lot of rocks. The water was clean without too much seaweed in both locations. 6. The resort was very clean. The bad- 1. The second that you step foot onto the property, The Playa Collection vacation club sales people try to get you to come to their presentation. We had to say no to 3 different people before we were left alone. This is our vacation and we don't need to be sitting through a high pressure sales presentation. 2. Our servers at both Jamican Rootz and Fuzion weren't very cheerful and just seemed to be going through the motions. 3. The activities seemed limited compared to what I was expecting. I was expecting something like a land version of a cruise ship, and was disappointed in the number and variety of activities throughout the day. The resort should hire a good cruise director to liven things up. 4. Everything was open on weekends, but on weekdays a lot of bars and restaurants were closed. I heard complaints from some people that we talked to that the sports bar hadn't been open for several days during the week of our trip. 5. I felt as though I was trapped at the resort. On most vacations that I take, we venture out on our own and do a few hikes during the week. This really wasn't an option here. If you want to venture out, your best option is to book an excursion while on the property. Most of the available excursions were about $100-$200 per person. 6. The walking path between Ziva and Zilara is a little dangerous at night. Walkers have yield to 6 person golf carts that carry passengers between Ziva and Zilara. There should be a dedicated walking path that carts aren't allowed on between the resorts. 7. If you go on the beach at night, make sure to bring some bug spray for your feet and ankles. There are sand fleas. I'm glad that I tried Hyatt Zilara, but I don't think that I will be making a return trip. Read less

This is my honest review as a self-described critic. Coming into the weekend, I had high expectations but was initially disappointed because I was expecting a newer hotel. Being a bit spoiled, I stayed in my room at first, but a few staff members encouraged me to explore the property and experience all it had to offer. Let me start with the grounds—very well-maintained, and I’d give it a 4/5. As for the beach, it’s by far the cleanest compared to most hotels along the strip leading to Falmouth, so I’d rate it 5/5. Now, onto the service. My first interaction was with Ingrid and Toni-Gaye at the Aroma Coffee Shop. They were incredibly helpful, going out of their way to ensure I got the smoothie I wanted—thank you, ladies! Then, I had a great experience at Calypso with Manager Clinton, who came to check on us. The burger was amazing—definitely try the burgers there! My only critique would be that the plates didn’t match the Calypso theme; bright orange and blue plates would add a nice touch. The property has so many restaurants, and I recommend trying them all. Choices offered the best breakfast experience—so much variety, and it felt like the menu was updated daily. Compared to newer hotels, where the menu stays the same, this was refreshing. I also appreciated that Restaurant Manager Partha made sure every guest, including me, was satisfied. That level of attention to detail really impressed me. A special mention goes to Chef Oneika. When I mentioned oxtail was only on the dinner menu, she made it a point to serve it for both my sister and me the next day. Now, that is prioritizing the guest! For lunch, Jamaica Roots stood out—the Rundown Shrimp and Fish Tea were incredible. Service across the property was consistently 5/5. Every staff member I encountered, whether they assisted me or not, was pleasant and helpful. For example, the groundmen who noticed that I could not find the Fuzion and took me to the location. I also tried Petit Pariz (French), Di Roza (Italian), and Fuzion (Asian), where the best meal I had was the fried noodle dish. Special thanks to Saskia and Theodore from Fuzion for their patience, especially Theodore, with my soup issue after learning that I was suffering from an over-eating situation. Thanks to Dalmane of Di Roza for providing us with the towels to have our hands cleaned. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel as the best in Montego Bay, even though it’s not the newest. A quick tip: scan the back of the keyholder for restaurant info. One suggestion for the Front Office Manager—ensure guests are informed of all amenities upon check-in, and it would be a nice touch to offer refreshments during check-in instead of having everyone wait in line. This hotel is a MUST VISIT if you’re in Jamaica! Read less

Nice resort, customer service amazing , room service is great but food and entertainment is very average. Most of the time, i wasn’t satisfied with my meal which is unfortunately for such an elegant hotel.

This was our fifth or sixth time at this beautiful resort. We are Hyatt Globalists and were treated to a great upgrade. Thank you to Kay and Dezreen for making that happen. We also enjoyed a yummy special dinner from Chef Ralford (Urban HeatZ), and the customer service from Partha (F&B mgr) and Nicola (ChoiceZ) was outstanding. I also really appreciated LaRue at the Concierge/WOH check-in desk--she took great care of us when we had a small issue with our door malfunctioning. The beach is a protected cove; the water was so calm and clear. Yes, there's some seaweed, but so what? It's still beautiful. I wish I were there right now instead of landlocked in the midwest US! The pools are gorgeous, especially the infinity pool and waterfalls on the Zilara side. We enjoyed the peace and quiet at the pool during the morning hours (before 10:30 AM) and in the evening. When the Z-Crew is blasting the music (and I mean, literally, blasting), we left and went to the beach. It's too noisy and raucous for those of us who just want to relax--but I suppose that's what the beach is for! Service at the pool and beach was excellent; thanks to the wonderful team who kept us fed and hydrated. Lots of great food at this all-inclusive... but really, your best bet is the Jerk Hut. The jerk chicken, rice and peas, and scotch bonnet sauce are the BEST, and it's the food I look forward to the most when visiting this resort. The other restaurants are fine (maybe not quite as good as in the past--cost cuts seem to be a thing), certainly a cut above most other AI resorts out there, but if you ask for something special, the staff will always do their best to make it happen, which is awesome! Grounds crew kept the resort looking beautiful. Landscaping was beautiful and tropical, and everything was nicely maintained. Areas for improvement: -Some storm damage and wear-and-tear on the resort superstructure is visible; hopefully there are some renovations/repairs planned. Didn't detract from our visit, but maybe it could be an issue if left unresolved. -Fitness center equipment maintenance and cleaning needs some attention. -Volume of music during the mid-day at the Zilara pool needs to be more reasonable so it's not ear-splitting -Personal speakers--resort policy is that these are not permitted right? Please police this better. It's super annoying when guests bring these and blast their tunes right next to you. Overall, we had a blast and we look forward to returning! Read less
