The Beach was beautiful, the pools were clean, the service was awesome! Kids really enjoyed the lazy river, watersides, nutella creps and of course the beach! I wish there was more real fruit drinks instead of the slush puppy type with flavouring ones. But would definitely go back!

Just came back from a week at this resort. Before I say anything, I will say I wanted to love this place. I did not. Had a good time but if you have ever been at a true 5 star resort, you will find this is definitely not 5 star. Anyone rating this place 5 star is being very kind or has never been in a 5 star resort. Great 3 star or maybe low 4 star, at best. My critique would not have be so severe if the claim was not that this was 5 star AND if it did not have 5 star pricing. The Good: 1. Staff is incredibly friendly and well intentioned 2. The beach is beautiful especially if you can get under a shade tree (don't waste time with an expensive cabana) 3. YoYo yogurt place is the best quality food offering on the property 4. Everything is compact 5. Excellent quality liquor 6. Fun pool and Sesame Street activities for the kids 7. Comfortable bed 8. Room is clean The Not Great 1. Food overall is quite mediocre and quality is spotty. After a week, I was sick of all their offerings. All with limited menus with highly variable preparation. If you have ever gone on a cruise, by way of reference, this is a notch below most mid-range cruise lines (i.e Norwegian, Royal Carib). Even the kids were bored after a couple of days. I had one guest say to me, after nearly a week, give me the food ingredients and I will cook it myself on the beach. 2.By the way, I never would have thought someone could ruin a recipe (the preparation was OK but the recipe was wrong) of chicken parm. It is like the chef never read an Italian cookbook. (Tip for Sandals: Make it easy. Go on the internet and look up ANY recipe for chicken parm). The Venetian is a step down from Olive Garden which cannot justify calling itself an Italian restaurant. 3.. Sheets and pillow cases feel like they are starched. Very "stiff" and scratchy 4. Internet service is good in many places, just not some of the rooms (at least not ours). 5. Nothing much they can do about this but the ride from the nearest airport to the resort is less than ideal. It is a long 1 ½ hr drive along a much less than scenic landscape (can't help the poverty, that is for sure). Our ride back was in a cramped and uncomfortable bus. Thankfully, the air conditioning sort of worked. The Not Good (These are the things you expect to get right in a 5 star) 1. Bathroom vents to the hallway means there is no audible privacy in your unit. If shy about adult "activities" with kids in the room, then no problem. If you want to engage in any "adult activity" between consenting adults, expect everyone walking by will hear. 2. Most food restaurants are outside. Yuck. The heat and humidity is incredible. When I am eating, I like to be in a comfortable, air conditioned space. 3. While the help is very friendly, they are not particularly conscientious. This means, you may have to ask for things 2, 3 or more times and maybe, just maybe, you will have them do what you ask. They are friendly but ineffective, overall (there are some exceptions). 4.The overall resort needs a major investment in refreshing the aesthetics. It needs more than a coat of paint. It needs maintenance practically everywhere you look. By comparison, look at a Disney property. You will never see cracked tiles in the pool, mold, unsanitary bathrooms, piles of towels, glasses and dishware scattered about anywhere on their property. And Disney is not even 5 star. 5. The hotel was about 50% booked and, by mid-day, you had to go begging the staff for pool towels. All this while piles of used towels are scattered all about the pool and beach areas. 6. The bathroom by the pool area is absolutely positively disgusting. Think of going to the bathroom at your local gas station dirty. 7. No elevators. Good thing they have porters to carry luggage to level 3. Here is a tip... shmooze the staff on the beach and they will put aside beach chairs for you (with towels and toys for the kids) and the waitress will keep the drinks and food flowing. $20/day will get you a lot of service and a spot in the shade. No need to rent a cabana on the beach. (Forget the no tip policy unless you are satisfied with very friendly but mediocre service). Overall, the place was OK. The water is beautiful. The kids will have fun (I would not come here without kids). Rooms are OK and the food is tolerable. I would say this place is not a good value in that you spend a lot and have a right to expect a lot. Would I come back? Only if kids were in the mix and even then I would not stay a week. Read less

It took a couple of days to get in the groove but once we did we were in heaven! Michael from the entertainment staff worked incredibly hard and made my girls feel like valuable volleyball team players even at 8yrs old and missing. We took advantage of the Hobiecat, knee boarding, activities, entertainment, watersports, lots off Frozen Banana Mudslides! Other great staff members were Prince and Orlatdo (singing waiter). The family loved the Japanese food and tried sushi for the first time. The things that could be improved. The Italian restaurant was booked up and only late reservations were available. Sound traveled quickly in the wing we stayed in due to open vents in each bathroom that led to the main walkway for everyone. I had to come up with excuses for the weird sounds for my children ears as we are early risers. When it rained there was nothing going on - board games were brought out. As we went in the rainy season - activities should have been planned for when it rained daily. We normally go on an annual Disney Cruise but wanted to try something different. The activities, entertainment and food are good bit are not close to the Disney standard. However unlimited fancy drinks, the swim up bar and unlimited watersports evens the platform. Tip: locals appreciate clothing, sneaker, etc...donations. We were able to get our braid price down with some donations. Read less

This was our first Beaches trip... have visited Negril previously on our wedding trip. We splurged a little, our kids 7,8 yr old. We have travelled with them quite a bit in the Caribbean. I love the size of this resort. The kids could go and roam a little and I felt ok with giving them the freedom. They loved the cafe with crepes. When we booked the only option was king concierge.... ugh! Three females and a male... not good. Limited space. However we made due. Double sink and more storage would have been nice. Room location was great. Could not get AC to turn off , I was ok with that but had to put robes on girls at night for warmth. My fault not to ask front desk to fix. I will complain about not having room service... we have been at all sorts of resorts and for the money we paid to come here I expected room service. Kids don’t are toast by 6pm... room service would be nice. Only butler suites get room service... like I said previously that option was not available on booking. Another issue I had was service around the pool and beach... if you had a butler it was great, if not your on your own. Again the price we paid I expected a little better service. Washrooms on the beach and by the kids pool was disgusting!! Toilets overflowing. The wash stations coming off the beach could be fixed as well. The food was good. Did not like the reservation aspect. So we ate at buffet every night. Pools were great. Lounging areas around the pool were great. What was amazing was the staff... happy and friendly. The beach is so fantastic ... my girls love to snorkel and did find a crab and starfish. My youngest got stung by a jellyfish... I had Benadryl liquid to aid in her pain. Would I travel here again ... probably not. We did however book sandals Montego Bay for February. I think my expectations for beaches was high and it was not met. We have been to some Hyatt and Royaltons in the Caribbean and feel we were offered a little more. I feel this place needs to up the anti a little.... especially for the price we paid. Read less
