Honest Review: First time at Beaches/Sandals and First Time in Jamaica All said and done, we paid almost $8,000 for this vacation and it doesn’t live up to the hype. It is not a 5⭐️ resort. We have left the resort early and checked out today. Tip: ALWAYS get the travel insurance. It’s the ONLY way they will refund anything. Please know, we’re not wealthy people but we tip well. We believe in not going out to eat if you can’t afford a tip. My husband paid his golf caddy $75. We tipped $40 each way from airport. $60 to our cabana butler, etc. This vacation was truly a disappointment from the point of view of know what 5⭐️ service is, and not experiencing it here. There are some discrepancies between what the call center operators tell you, vs what is true at the resorts. They booked us a BMW via private transfer, only to find out later that with 3 guests, it wasn’t possible. They called us back and told us we could have a minivan. Not as fancy, but, OK. We called and asked about my husband playing golf. It’s all included they told us. We bought golf travel bags and brought a brand new set along with us, only to find out that it’s a $200 fee to play. There is no free golf at Beaches Negril. Ok, we’ll pay. The trip costs $60 and the driver was demanding cash payment at the time of service. We booked through Island routes, so the charge should have been to the room. My husband ended up telling the driver he would pay him only after we learned that it wasn’t being charged to the room. They’d been trying to double charge everything since we got on resort. With other All Inclusives we have been to, it was an added perk to book any rooms that gave you “club level” or concierge service. You have access to special pools/bars or restaurants. We were sure to do that here. We booked an oversized family beachfront room with concierge service. We learned quickly that concierge here, doesn’t mean a thing. The lady was unpleasant with us while we tried to book our golfing. She told us we need to go online and book it ourselves. She would help with transportation only. What?? I realize that they will book your restaurant reservation for you, but if I’m calling them to do it, can’t I just do that myself? Concierge was zero benefit to us. An extra cost with no benefit. Our excursions were a total fight. Tyree at concierge had no idea what any answers were to our questions. We ended up cancelling Ricks Cafe and our shopping trip bc they were trying to charge us extra to change days and times. We had to go back and forth to get our money back for that with management. If you don’t push the issue, they won’t give you a dime back, whether you got the service or not. It was really unpleasant. When we changed our flights and left early, they told us that we had to call the 800 number to get our money back, but they couldn’t be sure any refund would be issued. Later, Giselle, the manager who we were dealing with, told us that we should get money back but only bc we added travel insurance. Yet to be determined. They wanted to credit us at another resort. It took us 2 days and 4 phone calls to get our mini fridge stocked with anything other water and juice. When we finally got them to bring some wine and liquor, they quit bringing water. At all. On the beach, 4 days later, I ran into a manger who asked about our visit. I told her it was OK. “Just Ok,” she asked? I explained that we have been gathering our own waters from the bar, nothing stocked in our rooms, etc. she assured me it would be fixed. We STILL didnt get water stocked in our room. This is supposed to be a kid friendly resort. Our son is 2, and I have seen many kids his age. Not one single restaurant offers cups with a lid and straw. Not one. There is no room service of any kind, and unless you have a butler, no one will bring you an order from any of the restaurants. Our first night here, our son was tired, not feeling good and we were going to stay comfy in the room and grab food. We learned we would have to run and pick up. Ok, no problem. I head over to Soy and place my order. No, only appetizers are allowed back to the room. Sushi, shrimp and rolls cannot be taken to go. 🤷🏼‍♀️ People have mentioned the hecklers on the beach. They can be a little annoying but they are nice. Telling them no thank you is often enough. To be honest, the women from the spa are the worst. They will hound you daily, and they are on our side of the beach. The food here has been nothing exceptional. Not one meal has blown us away. There are meals that I still think about from trips to Mexico. Fresh squeezed juice, Everything here is JUST OK. The mixed drinks are all sugary and sweet. You either have a choice of that, or just tons of alcohol dumped into a glass. The bartending is really subpar. The two iced coffees with liquor from Cafe de Paris were completely wasted. They were undrinkable. We were hoping for some really nice cocktails, but that didn’t happen. We booked a cabana for an afternoon and we were sure to place an order for the coconut shrimp that so many people have called out. We were told by concierge that the shrimp comes from the mill. You can’t just order it on demand. We explained that we knew we had to give notice. She was difficult. Finally I said, please, tell me what I have to do to have someone bring me coconut shrimp at our cabana 2 days from now, and I will do it. She gave me a form to fill out and I completed it. Y’all, this shrimp was a 5/10 AT BEST. It was not crispy or tasted anything like coconut. Just standard mushy breaded shrimp with a chili sauce. Nothing spectacular at all. The AC in our room busted and leaked water by day 2. There is lime scale all over the faucets and shower heads. The Sheetrock is repeatedly patched and covered with 100 coats of paint in an attempt to hide the sever water damage from the leaking AC. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze here. We are early risers, but none of the bars open until 10am. We have already been on the beach by 2 hours at that point. No Bloody Mary’s or anything of that sort until after 10. Some bars don’t even open until 1230. That’s ridiculous. I stepped on a sea urchin and saw the nurse later that evening. I was told the doctor would come the next day and it was a $300 charge for him to show up. The cost of treatment would be between $200-$400. My husband and I dug the spines out ourselves with tweezers and nail clippers. The place is very pretty. I’ll give it that. Overall, Jamaicans are nice to the kids but not very friendly in general. I assume it is the culture here. This is NOT a 5 ⭐️ resort by any stretch of the imagination. The service is a 3⭐️, the food is a 3⭐️ and the accommodation is 3⭐️. We won’t be back. Excellence Resorts put Beaches to SHAME. If you haven’t been, treat yourself! Skip Beaches Negril, it’s overpriced and subpar. Go to Excellence and get treated like royalty. Read less

My family and I recently stayed at Beaches Negril on a quick birthday weekend trip Dec 1 - 3. We were greeted and handed cold towels upon entrance then escorted to the concierge lounge. At the concierge lounge we were greeted and checked-in by Anya, she was very courteous and polite. After we were checked in, Drean walked us to our room and because it’s a family resort, he made us aware that we would need to fill out a form for what alcoholic drinks we needed in our room. That was done and he made it as seamless as possible and ensured that our bar and fridge were always stocked in our room. Thank you DREAN!! Throughout our stay we tried a few restaurants but the ones that really stood out for us were Kimonos and Stew Fish. The surf and turf at Stew Fish is a MUST have! My husband lovedddd the steak. I just want to give a shout out to the guy at Kimono’s ( I forgot his name 🤦🏽‍♀️) but he is still my friend… from high school 😉. Also, Kareen our server at Stew Fish was such a sweetheart; very accommodating and was always smiling. ☺️ It was our daughter’s birthday on the Saturday and while we were out for breakfast, we went back to the room and saw a setup of balloons, a piece of cake and card that wished her happy birthday. It was so wonderful! Thank you so much concierge team for the in room setup! Even though we found out a bit late on our trip, we LOVED the fact that they had Kids camp where our daughter could go and spend most of the day doing fun activities; they pretty much took care of them (brought them for lunch, pool etc) giving us parents the opportunity to relax and enjoy the resort as well. Big up to the team at kids Camp! You guys are awesome! Beaches Negril is definitely a family resort and caters to the kids! The overall experience was great and the staff made it greater! NAE NAE from entertainment, our daughter loves you and can’t stop talking about you. I wish I could remember all the names of people I encountered but you all were very courteous and friendly! One thing for sure the SERVICE IS EXCEPTIONAL because of all of you. We can’t wait to come back next year. - Regina Gordon (Room 317) Read less
