Edit: April 2022. We loved our experience at Couples Negril. Food was delicious. Local and International drinks were great. Room was very clean. Grounds well maintained. Loved the easy access to water and ice. Looking forward to our second stay.

I was excited to visit Couples Negril for a much-needed vacation. I knew going in that it was a smaller resort with a relaxed vibe. But even as someone who arrived with tempered expectations and not expecting anything fancy, this was a surprisingly bad resort. Having paid approximately $1000 per night for a suite, it was surprising how they skimped at every opportunity. No bottled water is available. Liquor and food are generally bottom-shelf. Of the three bars, generally 2 of them are closed for no good reason. There are only a few places to eat, none of which are particularly good. Depending on the hour of day, there may be nowhere to eat at all. The suite was advertised as including room service — but the staff member who initially showed us to our room claimed there is no room service except for continental breakfast. After asking four different employees, someone finally (and reluctantly) gave my wife the “special” room service menu. Given how hard it was to get a menu, we never ordered room service, as neither my wife nor I believed we’d ever actually receive anything we ordered. To be clear, 100% of the problems at this hotel are caused by management. An employee explained to me they are paid virtually nothing (think $50 a week at the low end to $100 at the higher end). Considering the abominable pay, some of the staff were surprisingly motivated and clearly were attempting to do a good job. It was very odd that I paid 100 staff salaries for a week, and in exchange received cafeteria-style food and bottom shelf booze. The whole hotel was very weird. They are making the lion’s share of their revenue from repeat, low-information guests who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to understand how bad the value proposition is. Although service was generally not great, I tipped throughout the week simply because I am a good person. One of the employees nearly cried when I gave her a $5 tip, which tells you a lot. Overall, this hotel was in an excellent location and has potential, but I would not return to any Couples property. It’s sad how they treat their guests and it’s even sadder how they treat their staff. Read less

Hotel is located in a bay with calm clear water and you’ll never struggle for a sun bed. Staff were Amazing, a special thanks to Elkie, Amay, Vanessa, Kadian, Wonda and O’Neil. Also some of the beach musicians are really talented, we really enjoyed listening to some. Also sellers on the beach are pleasant and accept a polite no thank you. Many are very entertaining. Few couples are a bit competitive about how many times they’ve returned to the resort and act very entitled asking for off menu foods and special treatment which was a bit irritating to have to listen to, but not the hotels fault. Just felt very sorry for the staff when we saw it occurring. Never had a long wait for a drink or place at a restaurant, food is amazing and menus change regularly so don’t feel like you’re just eating the same thing all the time despite only having 4 restaurants, the staff are all really attentive and friendly. Gorgeous hotel pets (cats) that are well cared for as all neutered, very clean and healthy looking, lovely natured and really appreciate a snack of some jerk chicken if you have lunch at the grill. They don’t beg unless you call to them, they’re very well behaved and keep their distance if you don’t feed/pet them. Overall had an amazing stay here if you enjoy a quiet and laid back type of holiday. Read less

We decided to return to Couples Negril and were very happy that we did. We visited all of the Couples resorts over the last 7 years, and decided that we should give Couples Negril a second look. The one thing very obvious to us was the overall positive mood among the staff, they are so friendly and all seem to be enjoying life. It was very evident in all the restaurants, right from the host/hostess to the person serving you water. The housekeeping staff were also very friendly and efficient in their jobs. When getting bar service, every customer got equal recognition, they kept an eye out as to who was first, and they were quick to acknowledge your presence. The front desk people were so helpful, and always followed up on their promises. We can’t say enough about the positive environment we experienced over our 10 day visit. The tone was set from the first day there when the entertainment manager, Richard, came over and welcomed us (we had met Richard a year ago while working at another Couples resort). He made a point of having a quick chat everyday, ensuring all was well. Their activities are an amazing collection of something for everyone. Since the majority of them are included with your price, it is a great value if you take advantage and participate in the water sports and various clinics offered. The visiting tennis pros are always amazing, as is Kevin the resident pro. The only reason I couldn’t give this resort 5 stars was the food at the “Casaba Terrace” . The choices were very limited, and usually mediocre taste overall. The one exception was the fresh omelettes that we enjoyed every morning. As I mentioned before, the service here was excellent. All the other restaurants had good/excellent food. “Otaheiti” was our favourite, it was one that you needed to reserve ahead of time. “Lychee” was a close second, lovely staff and great food. “Heliconia” was our go to lunch spot, excellent ambiance, staff and lunch options. Their pizza is delicious. Their beach is amazing at this resort, so many chairs and shady spots. No one felt the need to get up at 6:00 a.m. to reserve their spot. While we were there, there was no loud music being played by individual groups on the beach, everyone was just enjoying the solitude and the odd beach musicians who stopped to play. Our room was in building 1, an excellent location, close to everything. Read less
