We just arrived home from our Sunset at the Palms 5 day vacation. We booked with a travel-agent friend that recommended the resort so we trusted in her and we were very pleased with our trip. We were looking to relax and get away and the resort gave us the opportunity with A++ service. There was never any crowding or real lines, the drinks were readily available and the people were beyond fantastic. This resort gives you the solace and seclusion you are wanting as a reprieve from the crazy and crowded mega resort. The food choices were very diverse and we were pretty pleased with all the options of the buffet and the beachside grill. The only things we were really disappointed in was that there was not more seafood options (but I heard we missed the Seafood night), the chef's table entree of chicken was a bit of a let down and we were not told ahead of time to reserve a table for dinner reservations. We arrived on Monday and could only book a reservation on Wednesday and Thursday so had to do the buffet the first 2 nights. The only real complaints (and I do hate to use that word because we truly enjoyed our stay) were that the concierge did not seem too enthusiastic with helping us book our excursions and also that the full details of the excursions were not relayed to us. We arrived at both our excursions not fully understanding that we could have booked them differently and had the opportunities to see and do other things instead of those we chose. Our only other problem was that the sun set on the beach around 6:45, but the beach bar and grill closed at 6 and then the beach at 7(which I am sure was probably a safety issue and out of the Sunset staffs' hands). Upon our first night of arrival we were so excited to watch the sunset with a drink in our hands while lounging on the beach chairs and it just put a little bit of a damper on our first hour at the resort; first that the bar was closed, second that no one told us at check in that it was closed, and the icing on the cake was when the beach security kicked us out just when the sun dipped below the horizon. So note to self-bring a few drinks from the main bar before you walk over to watch the sunset! The room itself is a perfect size (think typical hotel room size). The treetop condos were so interesting to look at from the outside-just like the pictures-we didn't take advantage of the balcony, but it definitely added to the allure. The shower was a dream, the bed could have been a little more comfortable but was a full king as promised, and the AC ran cold. The phone, nor the wifi were working during our stay which was at first a big annoyance, but did help us in the end unplug which was nice. The fridge was readily stocked with beer and water which was so wonderful and the maid service was exceptional and so sweet. Just a note that made me feel much better when I arrived: the resort is not beach side, but when they say it is a short walk-it is literally across the street (I know this point made us nervous about not booking a resort ON the beach). The crossing guard is very nice and the security on the beach is very helpful when getting over to the beach. The beach is private with the exception of locals walking by selling things (think cracker jack guy at the ballpark) but the security does a great job of making sure they don't linger or hassle you. We just left sunset at the palms for the fourth time and are already planning our 5th trip back soon. This resort is seriously a slice of heaven. From staying in treehouse style rooms located in such lush tropical greenery, to laying on a beautiful beach with blue calm waters it is just what anyone needs for a week of amazing relaxation. The food is delicious and the staff makes you feel more like family then just a paying customer. We loved starting our day off seeing the kind fitzroy at the breakfast grill and seeing the lovely claudette every morning at breakfast. Such a sweet woman. Security woman lynette at the beach had us laughing as always and kerry the bartender is such a sweet girl that makes such yummy drinks. We had a blast being served by craig and cornelius for dinner. Such a great group of employees. They definitely make you feel right at home. We used the same taxi driver all week long. Lloyd davis right outside the resort. He did our roundtrip transfers to and from the airport, took us to the caves for a private dinner and anywhere else we needed to go. Such a great guy. Always on time, greeting you with a warm smile and made you feel so safe. It’s like hanging with a friend you’ve known forever. Paul at the piano bar makes before and after dinner so much fun. So..in a nutshell I love sunset at the palms. We’ve travelled the world and this place is just wonderful in every way. God willing we will come back every year. We highly Highly recommend! 👍🏻 Read less

This was our first trip to Jamaica and our first beach holiday so we weren't sure what to expect but from the moment we got off the plane we were put at ease, we were met immediately by a club mobay representative and taken through customs to their lounge where we had a red stripe and cold towel while waiting are transfer to the hotel. We got to SATP in the dark and got another cold towel and a cocktail while we were checked in, the sounds from the wildlife at night are amazing. The treetop rooms are brilliant so different from a hotel room, lovely large bed, balcony with day bed which is great to lie on and watch the birds and relax, bathroom does have a lattice door but you can just hang a towel on it, mini bar with water, coke and red stripe. The cleaning staff make the towels into different things every so always a surprise what you would come back to. I found the wifi quite hit and miss but to be honest you come on this sort of holiday to get away from things so it didn't bother me. The complex itself is great, adults only and very relaxed, we found all the staff very polite and helpful and the food absolutely delicious and varied each day. The beach is very clean and across the road but a crossing guard is there to help you. The beach bar and grill are great and there is a security guard to keep the beach vendors moving but we didn't find they bothered you that much if you ignored them. Hubby fully enjoyed snorkeling for his first time and is now hooked on it. So to sum up this is an excellent hotel, very clean, great staff, delicious food and lots of rum, clean beach, great pool, evening entertainment good. We are already looking at coming back next may/june and for longer. Hoping to book direct with SATP. Thank you for an amazing stay, see you 2020 Read less

This was our third visit to this resort, and I want to take some time to go through several things. • VIP arrival – this is the best perk. You are met as you get off the plane by a representative, who then walks you through customs, and getting your luggage. After that you are taken to the lounge area to wait for your transportation. • Transportation- We fully recommend yourjamaicantourguide.com. We have used them for 3 years now, they are always waiting for us when we arrive, they are polite and careful drivers. • Resort arrival- We are welcomed with cold towels and fruit juice. We always arrive earlier than check-in, but who minds spending a couple of hours in the pool while waiting for your room. • Room- rooms are beautiful, beds are comfortable, and the air is very cold at night. The room tends to heat up during the day no matter how low you set the temp. • Pool- In past years we haven’t enjoyed the pool, but this year it is where we had some of our most memorial moments. It is small, but has a large pool bar, and great bartenders. • Beach- let me say this first WE LOVE THE BEACH! But we were a bit disappointed this year, as the seaweed was bad, and the water got choppy after about 11am (hence while we spent more time in the pool this year). Early mornings were still nice but for all but our last morning the water was a bit murky. • Food- food was excellent as always. We LOVE the food and the quality of the food here. There are lots of options, and choices both cold, and hot. • WIFI- This area is much improved three years ago, we could not get hardly any WIFI at all, now it is in the lobby, rooms and on the beach. We still have issues at the pool bar area. • I am going to address the presumed absence of water at the resort. Water in Jamaica is safe to drink. Unlimited ice water is available at all bars. Your room is stocked with 2 large bottles of water EVERY day. I also keep a bottle of water by my bed at night and usually drink the whole thing by morning. There is no fear of dehydrating while you are at the resort. You are also welcome to bring insulated cups from home which they will gladly fill up with water, or whatever you are drinking. • Privacy to a point…OK let’s start with the bathrooms. Yes, you can see through the doors. If this bothers you try hanging a towel over the latus the door won’t shut all the way, but you feel like you have more privacy (we have been married too long to care). • Entertainment- This is the first year Paul the piano man was not there, and we love Paul. I do have to tell you it was a lot of fun to have a couple of others there to change it up a bit. I think this should be a permanent change. I loved having variety at the piano bar. Understand I still want to see Paul there also. • Check out- super easy, hardest part is actually leaving. • VIP departure lounge- WORTH THE MONEY!!! Well it is to us. We don’t shop, we like to get a snack and drink before heading home while sitting in comfy chairs waiting for our flight. Read less
