Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Virgin rating

The hotel

Occupying centre stage on the largest private beach in Ocho Rios, the Moon Palace Jamaica promises as many sensational sea views as classic Palace Resort touches which is why this is one of the hottest properties in the Caribbean. Consisting of 680 guest rooms, contained within two shimmering towers, you'll be totally spoiled for choice and with six restaurants and six bars to choose from, you certainly won't be left wanting when it comes to a warm welcome. World-class dining options and a tempting gourmet corridor provide a taste of things to come with the excellent Piano Bar offering a world of wine which has been expertly critiqued for your own deliberation. As most guest rooms have fabulous ocean views, fully stocked mini-bars and 24-hour room service, you may prefer to relax in private. Of course, that's not where the fun stops and if you're travelling with kids, they'll be itching to get out of the room to their own pool, or grab a console in the wired teens' lounge - there's plenty of family options to keep your brood happy and active all day long. With four other swimming pools, excellent spa facilities and loads of daily activities, there's never a dull moment and with the stunning Dunn's River Falls just 15-minutes away, getting out and experiencing the very best of Jamaica doesn't get any better than this.

Worst experience ever. The sales team will get you drunk and sign you to memberships and nights that are inflated in price. All they do is milk you for money with pressure sales tactic. I will never trust Jamaica again with their politrics. When you travel there do not even bother with their sales BS. Moving forward I will only listen to sales… Read more

I will never trust Jamaica again with their politrics. When you travel there do not even bother with their sales BS. Moving forward I will only listen to sales teams in Cancun. I have lost faith in Moon Palace sales teams. The resort is good for Jamaica but the sales team are thugs and gangsters with no consequence for taking advantage of people who they’re supposed to look after. My experience with their sales team in Jamaica reminds me being drugged on the streets of Medellin and being lured in an alley to be robbed. Read less

This was the WORST hotel experience I have ever had! My friend and I were so excited to stay here after we saw the reviews from Latoya Luckett's visit (in retrospect her say was probably comp'd and the best service was reserved for her based on her status). The service was so POOR that we needed to change hotels. On the first day of our stay, the room was not ready upon check in and we had to wait. They ushered us into a room that smelled like sewage and mold. Before we could say anything about the smell, the person helping us with our baggage offered to send someone up to freshen the room (it was that offensive). We headed to the dining area to grab food. There were no fresh green foods that align with my diet and we found paper in the food we did put on the plate. When we complained to the front desk, it seemed like no one cared and nothing would be done. My friend and I decided to cancel the reservation and find a new hotel. Since nothing gets resolved in a timely manner, we did not realize that they would ultimately decline the cancelation and charge us the FULL cost of the stay a month later. They are even refusing a partial refund. WARNING: DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Save your time, effort and money and find somewhere else to stay. Read less

I can’t believe that it is the same place. I have to make mention of some staff, my favorite person at the Buccaneers dining area is Ann-Marie! She is so attentive, kind, personable and would go out of her way just to accommodate us. I also want to commend Daniel (Dookie), and Tashara who made us feel at home. One of my highlights is Water Aerobics with Johnoy energizing us making sure we did the workout properly but making us laugh at the same time. I would say Moon Palace is my home away from home!!!! Good vacation with friends during the week of 9/22. The staff was excellent and everyone was very attentive to our needs. The chef at Pier 8 makes the best breakfast in the world. And what can I say about the curry chicken, it was off the chain! Special shoutout to the romantic dinner banquet team and the servers at the beach VIP area. Best… Read more

PROS: Just what you'd expect from a 5 star venue. So many things to do you barely have to leave the resort (unless you really want to). Food options are plenty. Staff in general are very kind and helpful. Tip: Ask the staff daily to find out what's going on because not all activities are obviously announced/displayed. Shout out to those who we felt a special bond with: ANTHONY (entertainment staff) who can always be seen dancing up a storm even when not performing. A show on his own, his moves are pro in many dance styles. He's multi talented (oh yeah and quite the cutie). Talk to him & make a new friend like we did *****. HANNA (welcomed us and a wealth of information) who was temporarily located here but her "home resort" is at Cozumel Palace location. Not only did she make us feel like we were VIP but also bubbling with charisma and was always looking out for us. Every time we'd walk the property we hoped to bump into her. We plan to go to Cozumel in 2025 and really hoping she'll be there. Dunns River Falls (where popular scenes from James Bond Dr. No was filmed) is a must excursion and is very close by, so no time lost in travel :) we went via catamaran and had a little snorkeling stop on the way. Also walking distance from the resort is the local craft market and souvenir shopping at Taj Mahal. For those who've heard about KFC being the best in the world it's also walking distance (but hope there's no lineup). Bob Marley museum in Kingston was also amazing and on the way you'll be educated about all sorts of interesting information & stop at some locations to get a history of Jamaica. Thx Steve (our tour guide). CONS: for us there was really only one...very disappointed with the DJ at the Noir club, he was terrible (other vacationers even some staff agreed with this comment). He was actually annoying. This is often the only evening entertainment after 10pm so no late night partying which you would expect to do on vacation. Many others were seen walking around the property looking for something to do late a night because they'd walk into the Noir club expecting to "party all night", then walked out a few minutes later. He had a knack of emptying the dancefloor he's so bad. His mixing/transition from one song to another is anything but smooth, he doesn't play more than 15-20 seconds of a song and the song choices are repetitive. Just when you start getting into a beat, he's blasting some annoying sound effects and switching up the music genre. Oh yeah; and he often cuts the music completely to talk (and talks waaaay too much) but the audio is so bad/distorted, you can't even make out what he's saying. All in all an excellent vacation :-) Read less
