Sooo it kind of upsets me to have to write a negative comment but it was what is was... My boyfriend and I are very well traveled and only look for a boutique style experience. So far we have been pleased in our previous experiences and were hoping for the same(especially that this was on the expensive side ,3000$ a person CAD) The arrival was great, sparkling wine and towels. For the rest, a lot of details made OUR PERCEPTION of this resort not so great. I know we're on vacation but the service is mediocre and TERRIBLY slow, wasting precious time off the beach or at other activities. One night, we sat at 7:00 and our appetizer came at 8:05. We were tired of waiting so asked to have the main dish brought to our room. At 9:40 pm (after we had put up the "do not disturb" sign since we did not want our plates anymore past 9:00 pm) they finally came with our food. Another time, during the day, a waitress was taking my order and wasn't listening to anything I was saying because she was too busy laughing with other employees as she was standing at our table and had asked me to give her my order already, I had to stop talking because she wasn't even paying attention to my response. Plenty of empty ketchup bottles, mayonnaise in the sun, morning coffee is brought to you on the table, not served and our creamer was empty. Food is NOT allergy friendly as I am allergic to nuts and there weren't many dessert options for me. Food is nice on paper but not in your plate. I lost weight instead of gaining which is usually not the case EVER when we travel... Our butlers were nice but we almost did not see them. Some employees did not talk to us almost all week and when they found out we were leaving, asked us to put their names in the review! Beach was nice but pool, forget it! There's 10 chairs only around the pool for a 75 room resort. Spa ladies were a bit annoying because they would come on the beach every day asking if you'd like something at the spa... Ochi resort is not somewhere you want to go if you're looking for tranquility. Very crowded, noisy, drunk people and loud music pretty much describes the experience. I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting details but all in all... was NOT up to par with our expectations at all for the amount of money we spent. We did though enjoy Roman and Daniello, beach waiters. Very nice and polite young men. So Sandals? Not for us unfortunately. Read less

Simply put, our week at Sandals Royal Plantation was the best all inclusive experience we have ever had by a mile. This resort exemplifies what Sandals marketing department claims Sandals is. For those of you that have read my previous reviews on other Sandals properties you will know that I describe them as a Strong 4 to 4.5 Star resorts. Royal plantation is the closest thing to a true 5 Star resort that I have experienced at Sandals thus far. They are a strong 4.5 Star resort and the only thing missing to round it out to 5 is modernized rooms (decor is dated and needs a refresh along with some better hardware). Overall the service is absolutely outstanding and exemplifies what all other resorts should strive to be. The general attitude of all the staff is positive, warm, welcoming, and out to surpass all expectations. My sincere compliments to the entire staff at the resort and the management team that leads them. This resort became our favorite within a few days of our arrival and we booked to return in the fall. Our Butlers Sean and Gladstone were outstanding and exceeded all my expectations. They promised to go above and beyond and they lived up to that promise. My wife and I are not difficult people, but have very high expectations when it comes to service levels, and they absolutely met and exceeded our needs. Well done gentlemen! The details….read on for lots of details: Rooms: We booked last minute so we had a Viceroy Room (one of the entry level rooms) as that was all that was left at time of booking. We were very pleasantly surprised given our previous experiences with entry level rooms at Sandals. We were in the East Wing and on the 1st floor which always concerns me. Even though we were on the ground floor, the view was spectacular. We can see the ocean through some of the foliage that they have between the building and the beach below. The resort is built on a bit of a “cliff” so the ground floor is already much higher than the beach so you still get a view. While we did not have a balcony, the room set up was actually very well done. The large floor to ceiling windows open up to create a French style balcony and you can sit inside your living room on the very comfy sofa chairs and have a cocktail while listening to the waves below. In the end we did not miss the balcony (and we use it every day at other resorts and cruise ships) and preferred the setup as the sofa chairs were much more comfortable than outdoor metal chairs anyway. The room has a natural separation between the bedroom and living room with comfortable furniture. The walk in closet it huge with room for all your clothes. Bathroom décor is a bit dated and the fixtures were updated from the originals but were in need of replacement as they were tired and did wobbly. Some of the handles on the doors for the closet and bathroom were also in need of replacement or missing. Picky comments, but this is the main reason why it is not a true 5* resort as those resorts are fully updated all the time. Overall the room was very comfortable, clean, and in pretty good shape (some maintenance required as described) and our cocktail hour in the room was very pleasant. Our bar was restocked daily with some of the special requests through our butler. We even got some of the liquor bottles that we asked for (top shelf stuff). Resort: While this is a small and quiet resort, it is not really lacking in anything. They have 2 decent sized beaches that never felt crowded, a small pool that again was never crowded and a neat 2 level hot tub. We always found chairs even when we came later in the morning. There are 2 tennis courts that were in good shape, croquet lawn, games room with billiards table and games, spa, and small gym (wife said it was ok, but they make the best with what limited room they have). Grounds are maintained and lovely to walk around. The resort centers around the patio area with nightly entertainment, pool and main restaurant/bar all being around or on the patio. There is a large tree growing there that provides shade throughout the day. The GM is often found around the grounds making sure everything is running smoothly and in tip top shape. Arnold takes pride in his resort and it shows. Food: All 3 main restaurants there are really good. Le Papillion allows you to have a romantic dinner with a strong menu that can take you most of the week to work through. Terrace is your buffet/a la carte option with special theme dinners to keep it fresh throughout the week and Royal Café has delicious lunch options on the beach and it cleans up really well at night for a surf and turf dinner. They light up the tree above to create wonderful mood lighting. All 3 spots provide lots of options to keep dinning options fresh throughout the week. I rarely ate the same thing twice all week (except the coconut shrimp that I ordered a lot….). You can also take the short shuttle ride next door and take advantage of the many options at Sandals Ochi as well. We did that one night, but found the food variety strong at RP so it was not necessary. We never had dinner at the pub but did order wings once around the pool to munch on and soak up the margaritas we were drinking all day. Bars: Wobbly Peacock is the main bar and the Royal Café covers the beach area during the day. Your butlers can also be called any time to get drinks to you if you really don’t feel like getting up. The service at the bars was phenomenal. Team work all around to ensure that service is fast and friendly. We watched as guests came into the Bar and the 2 bartenders worked together to ensure they were greeted and served quickly. You never got thirsty at the bars. Most of the time at lunch and dinner refills of my Beer and/or cocktail were brought to me just as my current one was running low. Great attention to details. Junior took care of us most nights at the Peacock with a great smile and friendly conversation. Service: As I mentioned before, this is what sets this resort apart from the others. Everyone at the resort falls over backwards to make sure that they go above and beyond. From the drivers for the shuttles to Ochi and/or golf course, front desk team, your butlers, wait staff and bar staff to management, they are all working together to get you what you need, when you need it. Outstanding service all around. We called our butler a few times on the provided cell phone and they came running with what we needed no matter where we were (golf course, next door, or just around the pool). We were celebrating our birthday’s so on the 2nd night we can back to a decorated room with balloons, streamers and disco lights. Our butlers made sure we had something fun to come back to after a day around the pool. Well done! One prime example, management regularly came to introduce themselves to us at the bars, poolside or at dinner. One night we mentioned that seaweed was growing under some of the ocean platforms (floating doughnuts) which is kind of gross to one of the managers at dinner. Next morning they were being taken ashore and cleaned. They listened and immediately took action. You cannot ask for more than that. Golf Course: I played 3 games at their course. Note that while there are no green fees, there are mandatory Caddie fees to pay and if you want a cart (it can get hot and the course is a mountain course with a lot of ups and downs) that are also additional fees. So as a single golfer it cost me $60 for caddie and cart to play. This is on par to many decent courses back home. The course is in ok condition. Lots of brown spots and dirt patches in the fairways and the greens were not the best out there. I am not sure that I would pay $60 to play on this course at home given the condition. That being said, you are on holidays and playing for fun so it was not a problem. I just moved my ball off the dirt and onto some grass on the occasional situations that I landed in the dirt patches so no harm no foul. The course has a nice but tight track. If you spray the ball you will find it on another fairway. Greens are very small but the course is short so the challenge here is not distance, but accuracy so challenging in its own right. The service at the Caddie shack and club house is fantastic. They great you with open arms, have a nice cold wet towel waiting after the round and clean your clubs and shoes. The caddies are great and friendly. Overall it was a wonderful experience with outstanding service at the club and the course is very playable even with the rougher patches. Go and play for fun and you will not be disappointed. If you prefer a lush, vibrantly green golf course with soft fairways then leave the clubs at home and just enjoy the beach and pool. Overall there are some minor things that they can work on but we found that Read less

Awesome place to unwind from a busy life, the Butler made sure we were happy but not too intrusive. Feels like home when we go back. Will be there again next year, we won’t do a split stay next time just two weeks at SRP for sun, fun and rum.

I can’t say enough good things about the staff who genuinely seem happy to help you. From the wonderful ladies at the Terrace and Royal Grill ( Adlin and all the others) to the housekeeping and room service staff they all provided great service with a smile. Our butlers Richard and Orlando decorated my husbands room for his birthday and were always ready to help when needed. This is a small quaint resort and not for those wanting to go crazy and party. If you want to relax and be pampered this is the place for you. Hopefully we will return soon. Read less
