We booked this resort as we had family and friends stay there and recommended it which was great. I had researched many other resorts to check out the food options as I have a picky eater in my family. Prior to booking trip, I had investigated the restaurants which showed a big variety as well as a buffet. For my group the buffet was important because not everyone like sushi or Thai food. They had a Mediterranean restaurant called the sea olive that had a few options on the menu that would have worked. We arrived on May 10th, we arrived late and tired and decided that we would eat at the buffet as that was our plan. We ate there that evening which was great..good variety..everyone was happy. The next day we find out that not only the buffet was closed bit our other option....the sea olive was closed as well. We were very disappointed as no one during our check in or our concierge informed us of this...the concierge gave us all the restaurant times and reviewed everything during check in. This being said..there was literally a wedding every day we stayed there..which was fine..but the sea olive was only open to the wedding party. We asked a few staff members about the closures and got different answers from everyone. The buffet was open for breakfast only. This was a big hiccup because my family member had little options at this point for dinner. Plus we had to wait 2 hours to get into a restaurant ..even when we arrived at 5:30. We tried not to.let it ruin our stay but other people we met were also quite upset....especially people with young children. We would not likely return to this resort. It was difficult somedays to get chairs poolside. They are big on their Bali beds so you can't really sit poolside or beachfront without paying for it. We spent most of our days at the infinity pool which was nice but crowded. We went to the pools in-between the villas ..which was fine...but we also had a hard time finding chairs..and when we did there was fecal matter smeared all over the chairs....likely from someone changing diapers. There was no real coffee option that wasn't extra and same with ice cream....if you wanted something other than soft serve then you were paying for it. It seemed like a lot of things were not included..which is very different from other places we have stayed. The place really caters to prestige members and wedding parties which I realize they are paying extra but not really fair to everyone else. The pros.. great staff...clean rooms..comfy beds. Just really disappointed with the food situation...not great and not alot included for an AI. Read less

Just returned from our second trip to the Fives & it didn’t disappoint. We fell in love with Mexico last year & instantly knew we wanted to return. Our trip was amazing! After a long trip we just wanted to get to our room, unfortunately the card machines weren’t accepting our cards from the UK which caused delay and then we were provided with a twin room, as a couple celebrating our anniversary we at least wanted to share a bed. They changed our room the following day but it took a bit of work and effort on our part. We met some fellow travellers and instantly hit it off and shared our knowledge from the resort last year and thoroughly enjoyed the foam party & time on the beach & round the plaza with them. The staff are an absolute credit to this hotel, they all work so hard but there were a few exceptional waiters who me met last year and who made us feel so special once again. Raul Lazcano from the plaza and gin bar is such an asset to this place. He knew what we drank and kept our glasses filled & went above and beyond on numerous occasions to help us. He really did take care of us and made us feel like VIP’s. He is one in a million! Pablo, Abraham, Cristal and Roceo from the infinity pool & beach front were equally amazing. These guys are working hard in 34 degrees and always have a smile on their faces, nothing is a problem to them and they always made time to chat with us. The staff all helped in making this such an incredible experience. It’s not perfect but we can see improvements from last year, especially in terms of the entertainment. A huge improvement from last year! Angel & the rest of the entertainment crew were awesome & again worked tirelessly to provide a good experience. I’m not so sure about the spirits this year, I didn’t feel the same effect from the gin as I would at home? Restaurants were good, our only negative experience was the brasserie, we felt both the food & service were poor for dinner. I loved the Thai, so much so we went there four times and the Italian three times which is a bonus of this resort and no limitations around the number of times you can visit each restaurant. The Natura Grill was our favourite for lunch. Sunday’s were always a brilliant day with the Mexican bbq (yukatan brunch) at lunchtime then all the decor, food, drinks & entertainment in the plaza at night - felt like such a Mexican celebration which we loved! Sergio was also very helpful and took care of any issues we had and helped us to book our romantic dinner on the beach for our anniversary which was incredible. Thank you Juan & Christian for making this so special. Slight issue when checking out, we paid our bill the night before but were informed it hadn’t been authorised so they wanted us to pay again. I refused and called my bank who confirmed the payment had been authorised - again, this took effort on my part but managed to get it sorted. We took a few trips and visited some beautiful parts of Mexico again, our personal favourite was Isla Contoy and also Sian Kaan and a beautiful lagoon where we chilled out in the crystal clear waters on swings and hammocks. Overall this was another amazing holiday and we will definitely return 👏🏼 Read less

Having stayed at the Fives beach hotel and residences from the 9/5-23/5 I feel the need to share our experience. We choose the Fives because of the previous reviews even though some were negative the good ones sounded amazing and we were not disappointed. We stayed in room 724-2 the room is generally well appointed but does show signs of ware but was more than acceptable. The resort is huge and has plenty to offer all groups and families. On our first morning we went to the Flavours buffet restaurant which had a great selection of foods my wife had some scrambled eggs that were cold but that was the only thing that was a negative. The next morning we met our TUI rep and was asked if we had any complaints to which my wife said not really a complaint but the egg was cold . The following day when we went for breakfast we were met by Carlos who was a manager and apologised for the previous day and every day after that we were asked if everything was okay and did we need anything. The level of service we received for the rest of holiday was nothing short of incredible. The restaurants are varied and we could not fault them at all, they offer a brilliant selection on the menus. The star of the restaurants is Arezzo and a big shout to waiters Armenta and Mercado who are outstanding. There is a few more people who need picking out Monserat and Joshua from the Fives team who always made sure were happy and if they could do something for us.Tino from the beach waiters who learnt our names after a couple of days and looked after us well. Alejandro from Mar holidays in the plaza who helped us with our trips and booking bali beds,A big shout to wendy in flavours who looked after us especially well every morning. Finally a big thank you to Carlos who went out of his way for us. If you’re thinking about a holiday in Mexico give this place a go ,the resort, the food, the wildlife make this place a must, but most of all the staff. Massive thank you for the best holiday my wife and I have ever had and without a doubt we will be back next year. Read less

We spent 7 nights at The Fives this past March and we had an absolutely amazing time. Arrival/Room (1 bedroom resort residence): We arrived at about 11:30 am on the first Sunday of Canadian March Break - aka, one of the most popular weeks for Canadian travelers (and many spring breakers from around the world) 4 adults, 3 children. We were instantly greeted with cold towels and champagne - off to a great start. Because we arrived so early, obviously our rooms weren't ready, so the ambassador whisked us off to Brasserie for lunch - which was amazing. Seriously delicious. And the margaritas were amazing (and strong🤪) I mentioned to the ambassador (I'm not sure if she was an ambassador, but that's what I will refer to her as), that I would prefer a pool view. She took that to heart and our 1 bedroom suite was one of the walkouts to the pool in building 14. I don't like ground level because of privacy issues, so was initially a bit put off and we asked to change, but it was full occupancy. (This wasn't the ambassador's fault, she didn't know I would feel weird with ground level.) Either way, I was completely wrong, it was an amazing, beautiful room that was very private. And clean. (FYI - The rooms are clean everyone. I mean, don't lick behind the toilet...but would you do that at your own house?) Also, the other family that we traveled with had a standard deluxe, and I saw no issue with it and don't understand previous complaints at all. If you are super concerned about space, we upgraded before arriving to a 1 bedroom residence for $315 USD . And the space is huge ( we really didnt need it). Completely fair upgrade price in my opinion. Food/Restaurants: Seriously amazing food. I can't believe this was all inclusive food. Especially since the resort is priced so reasonably. Mestizo/Mexican - wow! I've read people say it's the worst (maybe they were expecting Taco Bell?) We ate here twice it was so good. Try the Mexican Carrusel! Koh Thai - we ate here twice as well. Amazing food. Brasserie - we had lunch here once, dinner once, and breakfast most days. Food is fabulous. Arezzo - order the stuffed chicken! You won't regret it. it was perfect. I also loved the ravioli. Raoul, our waiter was wonderful. There wasn't a single dish that we ordered from any restaurant that our group didn't enjoy (except if the kids went rogue and ordered outside of the standard nuggets and fries, then it could go either way 😆 but we learned to order nuggeys and fries as a back up) We didn't try Oka or Sea Olive as our group aren't sea food lovers. We also didn't get to Natura because the food at the beach is sooo good. The tacos, burgers, everything...just awesome. Regarding wait times: we went during March Break so we were prepared for waiting. Usually 45 mins to an hour. One night we walked right into Brasserie, another night we waited 2 hours for Mestizo. We were just fine! This is not the end of the world, lol, especially during peak season. The food was worth the wait and the quality of food didn't suffer by them trying to rush through. I understand the previous reservation system left people unable to go to any restaurants, so this is better imo. Also, we had an 8, 10, and 11 year old who waited patiently, so the grown ass adults I have read about having tantrums just shocks me. Go to the plaza and have a drink while you wait. It's amazing. The actual resort: grounds are incredible, lush, and so pristine. It's pretty hard to top monkeys coming down to check things out, wow! I did find Building 14 hard to navigate to, but that could have been the ongoing cocktails 🍹 🙈 Staff/service - friendly and kind. Sometimes servers were swamped at the pool (spring break) so it was easier to get our own drinks. Pools: We spent time between Lizards and Main Pool. Great pool choices, we never did get to any in the new section. Pools were perfect temperature. Kids activities - giant slide 2 days a week, giant hamster ball, pools galore. We only tried the kids club once...a little young for our kids. Evening entertainment - I really enjoyed it. Live music every night in the plaza was fantastic and a great way to end evenings. Mexican night - awesome, but go early, as it obviously gets super busy. Share your table! I think they seat 12, so lots of space if your group is small. A lot of comments and reviews left me VERY worried before going. I couldn't have loved this place more. I would go back again and stay longer. Disregard the negative reviews you have read, it's wonderful! Read less
