We opted to stay here after many trips to their sister properties. It was hard to not compare the two, but given the option, we would likely stay at a different resort. The rooms are ok. Smaller than what we are used to at any resort. We unfortunately were at the far corner ocean view and the smell of the seasonal seaweed at times were overwhelming. This only lasted a few days, as they do their best to eliminate the issue. We also had no a/c for a day and this was fixed relatively quickly. We were disappointed in the coffee shop, and it seems you can order the same drink and each day it will be completely different. The restaurants were average. There was no lobster available which was saddening. We did eat offsite one evening so I got my lobster fix. The area where this resort shines is Their staff. We never encountered anyone not willing to go above and beyond. I would like to highlight the efforts of Gaspar at the neighboring pool, Sergio at the swing bar and Luis Cupol at the buffet. Luis especially made our trip exceptional. The required covid test was easy to navigate. Read less

We stayed at Moon Palace Sunrise. We stayed 4 nights. The rooms are nice. Kinda small with the big jacuzzi in each room. The kids swam in it on our first night. We only used the kids pool which they loved. We also used the mini golf and playroom at Sunrise. The kids liked both. We arrived in the evening. Check in was pretty long and afterwards they stick a guest service person on you trying to make you sign up for a tour to get a day pass at the grand. By the time we got there after traveling all day the last thing I wanted to do was sit through extra time on them wanting to make a deal on something else. I explained we had tired kids and would decide later. She called twice to our room early the next morning wanting to know what we wanted to do. Again I explained that we didn’t even have time to see what there was to do at Sunrise and Nizuc so we were not interested. If there was plenty of activities and the kids didn’t want the big water slides at the grand why waste our time and money? The resort is big and they have golf carts that you can take so you’re not walking so far. We stayed in Sombrero which was the farthest from the pool and lobby. It is 30 minutes from the main hotel strip in Cancun. We took a taxi ($35) for the ride there to see what there was to do outside the resort. The resort is nice but felt very Americanized as most guests are from the States but doesn’t give you the feel of being in a different country. Read less

Just got back from the Moon Palace Sunrise hotel. The bottom line is I wouldn’t go back. The restaurants were ok, the poolside drinks were ok, but it wasn’t noteworthy. We got day passes for the Moon Palace Grand, it’s a nice hotel, but the pools are so so, and the water park was ok. My biggest disappointment personally is that the beach is not very good at the hotel, as in no one is on it. This hotel is not in the “hotel zone” where the white sandy beaches and crystal clear water is. You can shuttle/taxi to a sister hotel in the hotel zone, we did that one one day, and the beach was amazing, but the ride cost $150 (yes $75 each way for a van). When you stay at all inclusive it’s not something you want to do each day. We basically did resort living for a week. I went back to Cancun for the beach, which is much nicer than the cold southern cali water. So I don’t want to trash the hotel, but it wasn’t anything noteworthy for me. If you plan on drinking margaritas on the beach, don’t stay here - seriously - stay somewhere in the hotel zone. Side note - travel in the US until COVID is over. 2 days before we left we got our mandatory COVID tests, my wife’s was positive. They whisked her off to a secluded part of the hotel and were prepared to put her up for up to 14 days until she had a negative test - which is very generous - totally all included. Therefore the last 2 days we were there it was just me and my 3 kids, mom was in the secluded villa. One one hand it was good that they found out she had COVID. However, the reality is she is fully vaccinated and had no symptoms, had we been in NY, Puerto Rico, Miami Beach or whatever, we all could have flown home together. Instead my wife flew “domestically” to TJ, walked across the border, then my kids and I picked her up in Chula Vista. Thank God we have means, if I was my dad I never would have been able to afford all that. Read less
