Our family just returned from 7 nights (May 13 - May 20) at Dreams Riviera Cancun. We are a family of four - two parents with 11 year old twins. We booked a Preferred Family Suite (two connecting rooms). We travelled via Sunwing from Toronto to Cancun. All in price for resort and airfare was $10,000 CDN. Due to the Sunwing computer glitch several weeks ago, many travelers cancelled their booking so flight offerings were reduced and our departure and return times changed to very early in the morning. Flight was fine and airport transfers were smooth. Pearson is very busy so definitely arrive three hours before your flight. Accommodation - the connected family suite was an excellent choice for us. There was ample space for our family - one room had a king bed, double vanity, shower and two tubs. The second room had two double beds, double vanity, shower and two tubs. Decor was neutral. Room was spacious. We initially stayed in building one, in a room on the outside wall, third floor. We then moved to building two to a room on the inside wall, on the fifth floor. The view was much better - more expansive ocean view, no palm trees blocking our windows, and we overlooked the pools. I would not recommend the outside rooms in either tower. Building one is located beside a private small resort that hosted a wedding on the Saturday evening. Music was blaring and the DJ yelled into the mic until 2:00 am. The noise was unbearable. There is also a roadway along that side of the hotel. The outside wall in the second tower overlooks an abandoned property, with graffiti on the walls and a huge dumpster full of seaweed. I would highly recommend asking for an inside room on the top floor. Housekeeping attended daily and the room was clean. There is a large tv with a hotel information page that was very helpful as it displayed daily activities and other useful info. Most tv channels are in Spanish. We didn't mind this as it was nice to unplug for one week. Dining - overall, the food was mediocre. I know the resort has been designated something special that indicates high quality; however, for us, the meals were very inconsistent in flavour. When something was prepared well, it was amazing. When it was not prepared well, it was really awful. Oceana and Seaside grill prepared the best meals, in our opinion. The adult only French restaurant was also very good. The Mexican and Italian restaurants were only okay. The World Cafe was again very mediocre. Barefoot grill is like cafeteria food - pizza, hamburgers, fires and hot dogs. Overall the portions were small at the a la carte restaurants. We often ordered two main meals each, or had dinner at two restaurants. At least two of the nights during our stay, two of the a la carte restaurants were closed for dinner. This resulted in long wait times. The one evening we carried four beepers for the open restaurants and had to wait an hour before the first table became available. The second night we ended up ordering room service for our children because they were so hungry. Room service is very American focused and basic. Breakfast was our favourite meal as we were able to order a la carte at Seaside Grill (because we were Preferred guests). Wait staff were very pleasant and very accommodating to meal change requests. This was appreciated. Note - ask for a take out container for the World Cafe so you can take mid day snacks or desserts to your room, or to eat pool side. Coco Cafe had a limited selection of food and what was available can also be found in the World Cafe and the Preferred lounge. One pet peeve for me was the lack of berries served. Strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and blackberry are only used as a garnish. The main fruit served was apples, bananas, watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe. Customer Service - overall, staff are very polite and helpful (e.g. pool side, restaurants, bars, and the entertainment team). Very hard workers who truly want to make your stay pleasurable. As mentioned above, we had one terrible night due to noise at the neighbouring property. I do understand that Dreams staff cannot control what goes on off property; however, I felt the response from the night manager and the concierge staff the following day, was lacking. I began calling for assistance at 11:15 pm as I know Dreams ends all outdoor parties at 11:00 pm. While the night manager advised he was dealing with it, I never received a call back with an update. I called again four more times until the music was finally turned off at 2:00 am. I would have appreciated more problem solving and transparency about what steps they were taking to address the issue. The following day, we arranged to move rooms, but a new room wasn't available for 24 hours. I did not feel staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort or to acknowledge what we experienced, in an attempt to make things better. Other guests were yelling from their rooms to the wedding party (the room above us actually threw food off their balcony) which just added to the noise and our overall frustration. I contacted our travel agent who intern reached out to concierge several times (including Chief Concierge Israel), but she received no response. This was very disappointing. Preferred Guest - I do not believe the cost of being a Preferred guest provided any real value or additional benefit, to justify the expense. Checking in and checking out in the Preferred lounge only provides you with a/c and some light food. Again, the same food can be found at the World Cafe or Coco Cafe. The concierge staff were very busy and we usually waited 20 minutes to speak with someone on any given day. The Preferred beach area was not any more special than the Non-Preferred beach areas. Same loungers, chairs and wait service. We actually could not sit in the Preferred beach area due to the strong stench from the seaweed. The only benefit of being a Preferred guest, from my perspective, was the ability to eat breakfast a la carte at the Seaside Grill. Spa - my daughter and I attended the spa for facials. The treatments were really well done. However, the spa is small, with very few amenities and felt a bit dated. Inconsistencies - we found several inconsistencies across the resort. First, bath and room amenities were different. As we had two rooms, in two locations, I could compare and noticed the rooms were not stocked with the same items. Rules were not enforced consistently at the pool regarding the "saving" of loungers from 7:00 am - 10:30 am. Drinks were prepared differently across restaurants and bars, and even the event staff executed activities with different rules. I expected more standard training and processes to be in place. Pools - The infinity pool is gorgeous. The other two pools were lovely as well. Very nice kiddie pool for youngsters. Lots of loungers and Bali beds. We rented a Bali bed every day for $49 USD. Christian provided wonderful service to us at our Bali bed. Activities - lots of activities. Our children, at age 11, were too old for the Explore's Club, but the daily pool side activities were lots of fun. This included, zumba, guacamole making class, water volleyball, bracelet making, painting, and the bike tour to Puerto Morelos (I highly recommend this). Bars - my husband and I do not consume alcohol so cannot comment on the quality of drinks or the night time bar scene. The lobby lounge is lovely and a wonderful place to wait for a table at dinner. Live music every night. Nighttime entertainment was very average and enjoyed more by our children (e.g. fire show, urban dance and circus). Fourth time to Mexico and first time at this resort - the entertainment was very similar to other places. Beach - as mentioned above, there was lots of seaweed in the water, so the beach was not swimable. This is an issue along most of the Mayan Riviera. Staff worked very hard to rake and clear the seaweed as much as possible. However, it made the water dark and smelly. Again, no one was swimming in the open water. As we wanted our kids to experience the true beauty of the Caribbean Sea, we booked a sailing trip to Isla Mujeres. This did not disappoint. We booked through the Dreams partner company located in the front lobby. For $500 USD the four us traveled on a catamaran (with 25 other people) to the Island and had three hours of free time. Food on the boat was awful. Boat ride included two stops for swimming and one stop for snorkeling - this was wonderful. Drive to the marina from the resort was one hour each way. Weddings - this report hosts over 400 weddings per year. There are at least four locations for ceremonies and receptions. One day, three weddings took place. All weddings occurred after 4:00 pm. We were not bothered at all by this. It was actually really sweet to watch, and as mentioned earlier, all partying stops at 11:00 pm which is great. Note about our kids - as previously mentioned, they were too old for the Explorer's Club. The only "kid" thing they did was watch a movie outdoors - this is offered every night at 7:30. No amenities for kids such as robes, special snacks, toys for the beach, etc. My kids were actually given the same welcome gift as us - a bottle of wine and two apples! Covid - staff wear masks and you are asked to use hand sanitizer upon entry into the restaurants. Guests need to wear masks when at the buffet in the World Cafe. The trip was special because we were together as a family. However, given that there are many other five star resorts to choose from, we would not return to Dreams Cancun Riviera. Read less

It was good. Door to balcony would not lock. Lizard in the room. Very tough lamb at the French restaurant. Other than that, the stay was great. Staff was great. Pools were nice. Beach left something to be desired. There are better beaches at Hilton Head.

We went for the Easter long week to relax and unwind. It was great. The resort is beautiful. My daughter and I went to the spa, we reserved the cabanas and the staff was so pleasant and friendly. The weddings on site were beautiful. The rooms were clean. We will most definitely be back.
