My wife and I spent an awesome 10 days at Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa, from Dec. 29 to Jan. 8 with my brother, sister-in-law, niece (8) and nephew (11). We were at the resort at peak time, but we never got the impression that the resort was overcrowded. The beach: We were at the beach all day, every day and loved it. Santiago and Pedro always made sure our drinks were full and Rafael mixed the drinks just right. These guys worked extremely hard but were always open for a quick chat, so it was nice to hear where they were from since we were visitors to their beautiful country. Seaweed would wash up on the beach but there were employees out cleaning it up all day long so it was never too overwhelming. Unfortunately there was quite a bit of seaweed in the ocean (obviously), but it did make for some ok snorkelling with the kids, and we were even able to see a couple of stingrays in the sand. There is plenty of water with a sandy bottom so you are able to wade into the ocean to cool off. We got to the beach at about 7:15 every day and almost had our choice of spots. As the crowds depleted, it took longer for the beach to fill up. Dreams employees would monitor the seating and would remove towels from chairs that hadn’t been used for a while so I appreciated that. Unfortunately that meant that whiny tourists that came down to the beach at 10:30 and expected to get an oceanfront seat could complain and the employees would move towels. We would leave some personal belongings like tank tops and books and never had an issue. Food: This is the second time we have been to a Dreams resort this year and we were very impressed with the food both times. No one in our group had any stomach issues and we were able to eat whatever we wanted. Our favourite restaurant was El Patio and we requested Antonio every time. The second night we weren’t actually seated in his area, but he went out of his way to wait on us. He was kind enough to make us a special appetizer, he made us fire coffee (twice) and he always made sure we never saw the bottom of our margarita glasses. We told him our dinner plan for our final night and he insisted we come back for the second fire coffee, which we happily did. The barefoot grill was very convenient for lunches and we also enjoyed taking advantage of the seaside grill. There was a new restaurant called the chef’s grill or something along those lines and it was fantastic food as well. Fresh fired pizza, delicious pasta, seemed like better Italian food options than the Italian restaurant. Sorry I cant recall the name, but it doesn’t show up on their website. If you’re facing the ocean from the lobby, it’s on the right hand side down the big staircase. I believe the ramp from the lobby goes by it too. Drinks were good but we made sure to request our preferred brand of alcohol or else you’d get the stuff from the generic bottle. Entertainment Team: Daniel was awesome! He remembered my nephews name from day 1 and would yell to him from across the pool whenever he spotted us. It really made my nephew feel special and it shows how much the employees care. We also had fun doing archery and making bracelets almost every day. We didn’t really go to the nightly shows so I can’t speak to them. Our Room: Room was good, always clean. Didn’t spend much time in it and only picked up the tv remote to turn it off. Mini fridge was always stocked. Pillows sucked but we probably could have requested more but didn’t, so that’s on us. I’m sure I have missed a lot of the great things that Dreams has to offer but hopefully I’ve been able to provide a little insight. Feel free to message me, I’m happy to share our experience. The one comment that I do have for the resort is employee recognition. We went to the front lobby to try to recognize the great employees mentioned above and we were told that the only way to do that was through the survey at checkout and through trip advisor... so here I am. One last shoutout to: Antonio at El Patio Santiago, Pedro and Rafael from the Preferred Club Beach Daniel and Gigi (I believe that was her name) with the entertainment team Read less

The Resort is beautiful, inviting and comfortable. Seafood festival poolside, dinners at some great restaurants, the friendly staff throughout the resort and preferred club, this is a place that I would like to go back to again even if Strings and Sol wasn't happening down the beach.

When booking this trip, I took a lot of time deciding between which hotel to book. I was not at all disappointed! The resort was beautiful! The grounds were perfectly kept up, and the overall size was just right. The three pools were a great mix for all ages. One pool for smaller children, another with activities for older kids. The basketball hoops were a definite plus from my 11 year old son. There were activities at the pool, beach, and kids club all throughout the day. The service at the bars, pool, and restaurants were exceptional. All staff members were courteous, kind, friendly, and made our stay as great as it was. The drinks were delicious. The food was about average and was what I expected staying at an all-inclusive resort. A special thanks to the staff members who went out of their way to make sure we had the best time! Alfredo from the Patio was so entertaining, funny, friendly, kind, and went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. Octavio, bartender in the Preferred Club in the evening always made sure we had everything we needed and more! Jose, at the Barrucuda bar, was welcoming, had great suggestions on drinks and things to do, and always made sure we were having fun! Erik who worked the pool service, always made sure our drinks were full and that we had everything we needed. A few things that would be useful to know, and possible areas of improvement: -Preferred club was a very nice perk. The snacks and bar service were useful throughout the day as opposed to having to go to a restaurant. -The guest rooms are small, but in all honesty, we were not in the room much at all. -The bathrooms are a strange setup. For my family, it worked out fine, but for some, without a complete closed space for privacy may not be ideal. -The welcome to the hotel was superb. We felt like we were royalty. The preferred club then presents you with the hotel coupons and tried to get us to go to a "breakfast and tour of a new hotel", but NOT a timeshare proposal, to which we would have gotten a large amount of credit to the hotel spa. We ended up not doing it and was happy with our decision not to after talking to other people about their experiences. -Check schedules of the restaurants because they are not open every day for every meal. -The seaweed issue. The first and second day there, there was an abundance of seaweed. BUT....the staff was working on the beach to keep it clean literally all day long, taking wheelbarrows full away. The rest of our week, there was absolutely no seaweed. I think it depends on the day and the weather. For us, it was not an issue at all! -Yoga on the pool deck was an awesome perk! I loved the two instructors that were there while I was. Read less

Stayed 7 nights with hubby and three year old in a double preferred club ocean view room. There is a lot to like but the negatives are pretty distracting from the experience. Probably won’t be back but depending on needs, it’s an ok option but look around online for a good deal. Pros: It’s easy with kids but there are not too many children as to be annoying, good balance. Kid friendly food options and my daughter loved the explorers club. Nice, large kid pool. Service was generally great, especially the pool and beach side bar service, better than any other hotel I’ve visited. Caters to Americans so my limited Spanish was no big deal. Tipping or not, service was consistently good. Spa was nice but not worth the $$$. Preferred club lounge was great for breakfast and had a great espresso machine so good coffee drinks. Concierge was very nice but not really helpful. Laundry service was fast and easy. Plenty of chairs and easy to reserve Bali beds for busier weekend days. Beautiful grounds and view. Good activities and lobby entertainment. Cons: Check in started with a sales pitch to attend the 90 minute vacation club at hotel Now next door. We went for a free couples massage. Basically, we had breakfast, saw a room, and then 4 people tried to get us to buy a 25% off coupon good for 15-30 years with Amstar resorts. It started off $$$$ and went to $ which was super suspicious. At the 2.5 hour mark and on the 4th sales person I threw a fit and they brought me paperwork to leave. The behavior of the salespeople will likely keep me from coming back to these resorts in the future and normally I don’t mind attending these types of things. Other cons, food was pretty bad. No tacos for lunch, just hot dogs and pizza. Ate at every restaurant and nothing great. Disappointing because Mexico has great food. Room service was very slow and food was cold. Maid service was inconsistent and occurred anytime before 2pm with turndown anywhere from 6-10pm or not at all. Mini fridge/ bar not great, asked twice to switch out beer but was ignored. Same Pringle’s and peanut m&ms every day. Pool side evening entertainment went well past my kids bedtime and was really loud so toddler didn’t sleep well. Room is a bit dated and small. No real bathroom door ( partly frosted glass with open seams) so could be weird. Read less

The resort is top-notch and stunningly beautiful. The grand lobby entrance makes a definite impression (and it also duals as sort of a nightclub in the evenings with a great bar – ask for Enrique! – and usually has live entertainment. It’s not a huge resort, so it’s pretty easy to move around, even for those who struggle to do so. My father-in-law has mobility issues, but everything was accessible via ramps for the most part. It only takes three or four minutes to get to any place on the resort by foot and all of it is gorgeous. The plant life, the modern fixtures, and the scenic views from almost every corner really remind you that you are in paradise. The groundskeepers are constantly working on the flowers and foliage and the colors are spectacular. Every inch is landscaped perfectly. Also, I have never been to a resort that was so spotless. They really do spend a tremendous amount of time and effort to ensure every location is spotless. They clean each bathroom continually and even sweep the pool decks of water and the pier of sand. After any spill or splash, within seconds it was gone! The entire resort gets an A+ for cleanliness! The food was above average. There are several restaurants to choose from and we had our favorites. The hibachi is standard fare and tasty. But the restaurants we enjoyed most were the Mexican, Italian, and lastly, Oceana. This restaurant is outdoors adjacent to the infinity pool with a stunning view of the beach with soft ocean breezes. It boasts the best seafood soup I’ve ever tasted. I had it three times and each time it was a little different (once it’s had a whole soft shell crab and the next day a huge calamari tentacle). Kudos to this chef, because these meals were perfect from appetizer to dessert. The customer care and service was exemplary. We were treated like royalty and really appreciated having our wedding in this atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, Victor, the valet put us at ease and wouldn’t let us lift a finger. It was great! Emilio and Angel were as amazing as our poolside concierges. Emilio even made us a special display of sand art on our final day. It really touched our hearts. Eddie, Julio, and Octavio in the preferred lounge really take pride in providing time and attention to your needs. Enrique at the grand lobby bar never once forgot me or my wife’s name the entire trip and it felt great to be greeted with a smile and by name each visit. Even Andrea who hosted the breakfast buffet at the World Café and lunch at Oceana did a wonderful job making us feel special. Last, but certainly not least, Paulina was our wedding coordinator. She was sublime in this role and made our special day perfect! She spent lots of time with us beforehand to make sure every detail was perfect. For that entire time leading up to and during the day of our wedding, she as our best friend! We couldn’t have asked for more. Read less
