My husband and I just returned from Secrets Maroma Beach, where we celebrated his 50th Birthday. This was actually our second trip to this resort in the last 6 months. We have never repeated a stay at a resort, but we fell in love with SMB. The resort is exceptionally clean, well appointed and the service is top rate. Our room had a king bed that was very comfortable, which we usually do not find to be the case when we are on vacation. All the food was excellent. The pool side Pizza Oven was a favorite of ours for a quick afternoon snack. While all the service is fantastic we wanted to give a few shout outs to some of the staff that we had multiple occasions for interaction. Our concierge, Roberto, is top notch! He is a genuinely kind, caring man. He makes a point of speaking to all of his guests and calling them by name each time he sees them. He helped to make my husband’s Birthday trip a huge success by booking our reservations for the Hibachi grill, beach bed and even getting us a portable fan for our room (we use the sound as white noise for better sleep). Andrea, with the entertainment crew, is the most delightful, energetic young woman. She has an amazing talent for making people happy. Leonardo, beach wait staff, was super fast and efficient with all orders. Octavio, preferred club bar tender, is an excellent mixologist. My husband nicknamed him the “Chemist” because he would make up drinks on the spot based on your likes and wants. Guillermina, breakfast buffet, makes the best omelettes. She was kind enough to make my over easy eggs each morning, while my husband had her delicious omelets. Domingo, Bordeaux restaurant waiter, is an excellent waiter. We were surprised that he actually remembered us from our last trip. He offered excellent dinner recommendations and was very attentive to us despite being very busy. We will definitely be going back to SMB sooner rather than later. If your on the fence about this resort, GO! You will not be disappointed. Read less

This is the second stay at Secrets Maroma for my wife and me, and it was just as great as the first. In fact, it's the only time we've every repeated a stay at a resort as we like to stay in as many different resorts as possible. I think the rooms have been renovated since the last time (not sure). The decor is amazing, with the solid wood furniture being the most impressive and all drawers are soft close. The mattress is very good, and my wife and I are picky when it comes to mattress quality. The shower features a hand-held shower head and ceiling-mounted, rain shower head. The landscape design is just done so well. Most Mexican resorts are landscaped well but Secrets Maroma is extraordinary. Secrets Maroma is renowned for its lovely white sand beach, and it didn't disappoint, even with sargassum. We laid on the beach every day and we would watch the workers comb and clean the beach of sargassum in the hot sun, wearing masks. If you want to see what the beach would look like without cleaning, just walk north or south along the beach and you'll see. By the way, the abandoned mansion is still an abandoned mansion--what a waste! Dinners were very good. The only complaint is my wife had a chewy grouper filet while my steak was delicious. But we attribute that inconsistency to the chef having an off night. The breakfast situation was different due to covid. Normally these luxury resorts offer a dizzying amount of food at breakfast, but not this time. There was less selection and a server served the food at the buffet. So we ate light breakfasts and chose to eat lunch whereas we normally skip lunch as a way to reduce calorie intake. As for lunch, we loved eating nachos, burgers and pizza at the beach, and all the food was delicious. Speaking of pizza, I was chatting to the pizza maker (who was great by the way but I forget his name) while waiting for my pepperoni pizza, when he pointed out that there was a monkey lying in the tree behind me. I turned around and sure enough I saw a spider monkey in the tree! Amazing! The shows are very good. They last 45 minutes so they're a quick shot of fun entertainment. Recommendations to the hotel: * At the breakfast buffet, place tongs to serve the pastry. I had to use my fingers to get a pastry. I know the tongs might be a covid issue, maybe have a hand sanitizer station next to the pastries? Not sure. * It would be nice to have Chromecast for the TV. * I really feel sorry for the workers who have to wear masks. Can't they be vaccinated and skip the masks? Imagine working the coal pit for the lechon, on a hot day, while wearing a mask! Brutal. * Drinks were very good but they're made for the masses. Secrets Maroma needs to hire a true mixologist who can create amazing cocktails. Recommendations for the potential guests: * Bring your reusable popote. The resort isn't issuing popotes and it's hard to drink frozen drinks without a popote. * Don't be THAT GUEST. You know who you are. Background: one day we got lucky with a primo palapa and there were two empty palapas left and right of us. Somebody claimed them based on the towels placed on the chaise. Curious to see who the claimants were, we waited and waited and waited to see who would eventually use the palapas. Around 1:00 in the afternoon, some guests arrived, used them for an hour, then left. How greedy and inconsiderate! Don't be a hog! I say if you haven't used a palapa in an hour, you've officially conceded that palapa. Overall, great stay at Secrets Maroma! Read less
