Where is it

In the heart of the Riviera Maya, overlooking the award-winning white sands of Akumal Beach. Akumal, “place of turtles” in Mayan, is home to one of the largest green sea turtle populations in Mexico. Close to the area’s most unique sites including an authentic Mayan village, the world’s largest underground river and just 20 minutes from the famous Playa del Carmen. Close to Tulum Ecological Site. The world’s second largest barrier reef sits just 150 metres off the resort’s beach. Transfer time from Cancun Airport: 60 minutes.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel it was phenomenal! The service received here is above far more than I would have ever expected. The Spa staff was amazing and it was probably one of the best highlights of our stay. Our two favorite staff members were Daniel Carvasco (I hope I got his last name right), the Pool Concierge, and Jesus Perez, the best pool waiter. Jesus always coordinated with the kitchen staff to have guacamole without onions set aside for my wife. His recommendations were always delicious. Daniel took great care of us, from cleaning our sun glasses to relocating us around the pool due to evening events. These two gentlemen made our vacation stay memorable. All inclusive speaks for itself. There was an ice cream service and a fresh fruit service around the pool each day. These were delicious. There was only one concern we had during our stay and it was with the Seaside Grill. The lunch staff did not take my wife's food allergy seriously. After making it known of my wife's onion allergy, they still brought out her food with a grilled onion on the plate. We made our concerns known and never returned to the Seaside grill after this encounter. Since this was our first time at a Secrets, we were given a few gifts for sitting in on a timeshare/vacation club membership promotion. This sit down went great until we shared no interest in joining the vacation club. After a few closers were sent in to close us, we met John. John used extreme bully tactics, peer pressure, and guilt to try to force us into the vacation club. Luckily for us, it solidified our desire not to join. They stated that they can only promote their vacation club to us once and gave us our free gifts. Though we understand that this is their one chance to acquire new members, it does not excuse the behaviour shown to us after speaking with the first few representatives. Read less

We just returned from 10 nights stay and we are SO HAPPY that we chose to return to Secrets Akumal! The resort is beautiful from front to back. The food, service and dining options were great! From the beautiful beach, the three pools and a multitude of activities to partake if you want - there is a special place to put your towel down for everyone. But at the end of the day, it is the employees who make the resort such a wonderful place to visit. From Jose Luis and Sofia - our concierges in building 3, we were always met with a happy smile and an eagerness to ensure our stay was everything we wanted it to be! We were thrilled that Luis would be our concierge again this trip! Our first day on the beach we were SO disappointed not to find Sharon, who took such great care of us last visit. Word of mouth and a short time later, Sharon found us!! Again, she provided great service with a warm smile and happy disposition. Florencio Cruz did a top notch job maintaining our room - 10/10 - again so well looked after. Friendliness, service, quality and attention to detail is what we have come to enjoy at this resort. We had a wonderful experience! Place is clean, staff so pleasant and helpful, food was very good and many choices of restaurant and of course the beach was private, clean and so pleasant! We were celebrating with another couple and they also enjoyed their stay totally as we did!

My husband and I came for a babymoon and had the most magical time. We stayed 5 nights and found that to be a perfect length. Resort: gorgeous! It is naturally beautiful surrounded by palm trees, vines, exotic flowers, wild life (birds, lizards, iguanas, etc.) The trees and nature along each path makes it feel secluded and rainforest vibes. Somewhat spread out too, so it never felt crowded. Beach: Absolutely beautiful! Clear blue water and white sand. Not much seaweed when we were there, especially with workers doing their best to stay on top of it throughout the day. We brought our swim goggles and were able to swim with fish and even saw a couple of sea turtles not too far out! Would recommend bringing a snorkel- the ones in the gift shop were outrageously priced. However, you're able to rent one for only a few dollars. Pools: There are 3 pools, two by the beach and one quiet pool. All are clean with beautiful views and kept at a refreshing temperature. Kind staff supplies food and drinks as we lounged (as well as a book cart and sunglass cleaning!) Food: We have been to one other resort (Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana) and did find that the food was better there, but we did thoroughly enjoy each meal we had, and oftentimes had a hard time getting hungry for the next one! Our favorite dinner restaurant was the French one. We also loved the buffet for breakfast each morning and the lunch was incredible there as well. The 24/7 cafe had great drinks and treats! Spa: Got a massage (a deep tissue one for him and a prenatal for me) that were absolutely heavenly. Activities/entertainment: There is a tennis court, ping pong table, corn hole, sand volleyball, water volleyball, etc. I did a fitness class which was fun! There was a nightly event such as a rock concert and pirate show which were decent. Our favorite event was Akumart which had local artists selling their creations and amazing local Mexican food. Excursion: We went to a Cenote and inlet with Aventura Mayas; it was one of the highlights of the trips. We were able to go cave swimming in one, swim in the outside of it after, go on a small zipline and jump off a small cliff. We swam with schools of fish in the inlet. We felt safe the whole time, it was very reasonably priced, and our resort was one of the closest, so we only shuttled for 15-20 minutes, rather than others in our vehicle who had to be on it for over an hour. Gym: Small and a bit crowded at times, but nice treadmills and clean equipment! Staff: So kind and helpful! Absolutely loved our concierge, Sergio who went above and beyond, including sending a pink "Happy 6 months" birthday cake up to our room for our baby girl. Also became friends with Gina from the event/activity staff who was so kind, fun, and outgoing. Each member truly made us feel welcome and cared for, living up to their tagline they said many times while we were there, "Welcome home." An intimate and peaceful getaway. The staff was warm and welcoming. Everyone is so nice and fun to talk to. The food was great and there were so many options to choose from. We really enjoyed the fun activities that were available like salsa dancing, swimming with turtles, etc.
