The property is clean with great views. Food was just okay. The Bad: You will need to purchase water. Bring your own water bottle. You can fill at the bar. Too chill. They do not play music at the pool or anywhere really. Not much entertainment other than live music at night. Nothing after 11:00 pm. They have an amazing rooftop that is not used for anything. Over an hour from the airport on a windy road. Read less

I stayed at Bel Jou for a week and was not disappointed. I went on a solo vacation, but the staff at Bel Jou made sure I never felt alone. Every staff member I encountered took the time to remember my name and always looked out for me. I felt safe and comfortable throughout my entire stay. The buffet chefs always greeted me with a warm smile and a friendly conversation. I stayed in a partial sea view room and was not disappointed. The room overlooked Castries, the sea, and had views of the entire hotel. As many others have mentioned, if you're looking for a party vibe, this may not be the place for you—BUT if you're seeking calm enjoyment, relaxation, and exceptional customer service, I highly recommend Bel Jou. The vibes were immaculate from start to finish. On a whim, I decided to extend my stay by one more night, and the staff accommodated me with no issues. Special thanks to Dean, the bartender (I can’t recall his name), Princess, Keisha, Stasia, Brandon, Kayah, and Devon. I will definitely be coming back! Read less

My solo 10 night stay at Bel Jou was everything I hoped it would be. I was looking for a break where I could just relax, lie down, no domestic chores and get as much sleep as possible. Bel Jou and their wonderful staff provided everything I hoped for. On arrival I was greeted by Quincy (Yes, Rasta), he gave me my first impression of Bel Jou by his warm and friendly greeting after a long journey from London, and brought my luggage into reception. Cyprian (beautiful eyes) showed me to my room, and again epitomised great customer service, as did the young lady who checked me in, and offered me a rum punch. I loved my bungalow room, near the upper pool, next to the coffee house, not many stairs and near Lulu's Cabana for my soda water, (thank you Tanika x). I enjoyed everything I ate, the choice for me was fantastic, and I did put weight on. Shout out to Chef Alvin's team; Irwin, Roger Jevon and co. for taking care of my dietary needs. At times staff was slow in replenishing the food, but I put that down to everyone enjoying the food so it went quickly. Oh my word the choice of salads and desserts were great, they just needed to keep the ice creams frozen, as at time they were very runny. I wasn't too keen on the food at Lulu's as I'm not a fast food eater, but I did give it a try. The drinks were always flowing, the waiting staff rushed off their feet at times, but did a marvellous job. Princess and her dancing whilst serving the guests was great. She just knows when your glass needs refilling, plates need clearing, she is truly special. The other dining staff: Andrea, Shanel, Bella, Brendan, Sam, Devon in the bar, and many others you all are amazing. Thank you for the goodbye hugs, from those I saw whilst waiting for my taxi. Dean the manager was always visible, talking to the guests constantly, checking they are ok. He spoke to me a few times. I observed him clearing empty cups, assisting guests with their luggage. He leads by example, and manages a wonderful team of staff. He holds a cocktail evening on Monday to meet the managers and team, where you can discuss any concerns you have face to face. This is a great idea, as on all my previous holidays I have never known any hotels that do this. My room was spacious and I loved the huge bed and walk in shower. It was good to have a full length mirror, fridge and lights over the bathroom mirror for hair and make-up. I wasn't keen on the toilet brush, which I didn't use, it did turn my stomach. The writing on the AC remote was faded, so I struggled to work out what the buttons were for at first. Vern, the room attendant was lovely, so kind, looked forward to having a quick chat with her as she went about her chores, which she did very well. My only concern was the water temperature was erratic, the toilet flush was too weak and you had no idea what channel you were watching on the TV. However, these minor issues didn't spoil my holiday. Even though I was looking to just relax I enjoyed the aqua aerobics, led by the effervescent Jahfree. The other activities were too early for me. Unfortunately, there was a lack of beach towels, that affected me for a few days, and I had to use my bath towel to dry off after aqua aerobics, or if I got a beach towel I used it for 2 days. The hotel needs to implement a beach towel system, as it wasn't ideal. I assumed people kept their towels to place on the lower pool loungers early morning before breakfast. Hence, I never got an opportunity to secure a lower pool lounger, as I only look for loungers after breakfast. I used the shuttle twice to visit town, for the supermarket and purchase t-shirts and fridge magnets. The driver was great at advising first timers where they can find specific stores. As others have advised the roads are difficult to traverse on foot, and I do not advise venturing out at night on foot. Entertainment was the same as I have experienced at other hotels in the caribbean, every act does well known pop songs in a reggae version and the usual Bob Marley songs. Other reggae artists don't get a look in. It was very repetitive. The bbq night was great, so many food choices, drinks and the entertainment with the limbo dancers was enjoyable. Overall, The Bel Jou hotel lived up to my expectations, as it gave me the holiday I was looking for. It isn't a party hotel, more a place for relaxing, lounging and not doing much. The majority of the guests are over 40, a few young ones were there. It is relatively quiet and calm, where the entertainment stops at 11am. This suited me perfectly and I will definitely return. Negatives - Lots of stairs to lower pool which might be an issue if you have mobility issues Limited vegetarian options, usually one main dish but lots of rice, potato and vegetable dishes every night Our sons were in the main block with sea but they have small corner showers Roof top bar was closed a few times for private parties, but main bar open….everything closes at 11pm Special shout out to Princess,Bella, Vionce, Tasia, Nicole, Brendan and Jason on the front desk to name a few! Top tips - Take insect repellent, travel sickness pills if you get car sick as roads are dreadful, take free shuttle bus to beach ( hotel has sun beds there) you pay to use beach toilets. We had an issue with our room but the staff we spoke to sorted it so quickly with no hassle. They moved us to a different room and were so brilliant! Nothing is too much trouble for them. Two pools but we spent most of our time at the top pool. So relaxing and peaceful. We joined in with the daily Aqua Aerobics class which we loved. The food was great. We ate at Lulus Cabana every lunchtime which does great wraps, burgers, pizza etc. in the evenings we ate at the buffet restaurant. There aren’t loads of options but what was on offer was great. I tried some of the local dishes and really enjoyed them. The BBQ night with fire dancers for entertainment was fab. If you are a party animal and like to be in amongst the nightlife then this may not be for you however we loved it. Enough entertainment in the evening (some kind of music act for a couple of hours) and nice and relaxed during the day! Fab hotel! Read less
