The hotel provides a free shuttle bus to and from Castries, and the nearby Vijay beach. They don’t recommend that you walk into Castries, although you could. Having seen the roads, I can see why – there are lots of hairpin bends, and pavements are mostly non-existent outside of the city. Without wishing to be rude, some of the drivers could do with taking lessons again. Everyone at the hotel was lovely, very friendly. We were greeted by being taken into a sitting room, and offered a fruit drink while we registered. There is a veranda restaurant where we had breakfast, and which was also open for lunch and dinner – all buffet style. There was always a good selection of food, an egg station (which also served other specialities such as pancakes, depending on which day it was). One of the chefs, Gideon, sang to us while cooking, which was a wonderful start to the day. It was an art form watching the chefs cooking omelettes on a hot plate – not the way that Delia taught me, but beautifully cooked, nonetheless. The veranda restaurant held the entertainment most evenings – sometimes live music, sometimes disco. There was also an A la Carte restaurant for the evening, which was an absolute delight and where they served an amuse bouche between starter and main course. At lunch time, there was a poolside bar where they’d prepare freshly cooked fish and chips, a selection of salads and other things. All of the restaurants catered for any special dietary requirements such as gluten free, vegetarian, etc, and if you asked for anything special, they’d arrange it. Thursday was Caribbean barbecue night, so all the food was served outside the upper pool. There was a steel band – a very good steel band, I find it fascinating how they make such wonderful sounds, and fire eaters. It was a lovely hotel, a lovely stay and I had a great time. I hope I can go back again soon. I wish I could upload the photographs - the view from the Veranda and the birthday cake they made for my friend - but I keep getting an error message. Read less

My suitcase was taken to my room which was one of the bungalows which was spacious and comfortable. The hotel is a quiet one which is exactly what I was looking for. If your looking for a party all night atmosphere then I suggest elsewhere. They do have entertainment on every night which is also good. The staff are friendly and so lovely without being overbearing. I was able to eat in the Al a carte most nights and the food was delightful and the chef also comes round asking if everything was in order. No this hotel isnt on a beach but they do provide a free bus shuttle to the beach but for Rodney Bay and Pigeon island there is a fee. I love the fact there is a self help bar by the pool and there was no fault in the food or drinks. The BBQ evening was great although the music was just too loud but we moved so we could talk. All in all a great stay. Would I come back? Absolutely. Read less

We have just returned from a week at the lovely Bel Jou Hotel. We were impressed from the moment we arrived! The grounds were stunning and provided a perfect habitat for the many hummingbirds that resided there and even though there was no beach, the view of Castries and the Caribbean were beautiful. The rooms were clean and spacious and the resort was well maintained. It was also very easy to book excursions from there to get out and explore the beautiful island of St. Lucia. The food was superbly prepared, there was great variety and was the best I've had at any all inclusive resort! The absolute highlight of this resort though is the outstanding staff who work there. The service was impeccable and everyone was so warm and friendly. They treated you like family and made you feel like a truly valued guest. Special thanks to Danielle, Linden, Urias, Renata, Italia, Shervon, Jason and everyone else who served us, you were all wonderful!! Read less

From the second we arrived, we loved the place! Around 1hour 20 from the airport, the Bel Jou over looks Castries port and the beach, the hotel has a fantastic open layout at reception, where you are greeted with a welcome drink to complete some forms before going to your room. Our initial room didn't tick some boxes for us, and we were swiftly moved to another one, with 0 hassle. The rooms have plenty of room, great size bathroom/shower, comfy beds and a good balcony with a nice partial view of the sea! We were also surprised to find the all of the plug sockets in the room were converted to British plus sockets, so no need for the adaptors. As it was Christmas time, they made a great effort with the decorations around the hotel too! The food we found was brilliant, the buffet layout was easy to navigate and a great variety of food to be found day in, day out. Deserts were also up there, with the ice cream a winner! The head chef, Alvin, always excelled and often took requests for deserts and lunch! So a massive thank you for that! The hotel layout is very good, with a satisfactory gym and two great swimming pools, the lower boasting a self service bar (which was brilliant at this particular hotel, never a queue and no one taking more than their share!) The pool side bar was another massive plus from us, we'd like the thank Brandon for always going above and beyond for us, always laughing and checking that we were having a great time, thanks to Brandon at the bar and around the hotel, I can assure you that we were more than looks after! That's not to take the shine off any other staff involved with our amazing break, especially Glenn, the other member of the bar staff! The snacks and drink at the pool bar were very well serviced, with minimal wait, and staff often bringing them to our chairs, which we were again, very great full for! There is a tour operator on site (Book island tours), and we'd recommend using them. We booked the catamaran trip to Soufriere with the mud baths and the volcano, which was well worth the money if you haven't been already, all this was booked in less than 10 minutes (trip is approx $120pp). The hotel have a free beach bus, along with free busses to Castries also, but there is a cost to a bus after a certain time. The bus to the beach takes around 5 minutes (don't walk, the hills the hotel is situated on are incredibly steep!) And you will have sun loungers ready for when you get there. Some bars and snack stops on the beach front, but we didn't use any so can't comment. The trip to Castries is a must, plenty of shops there, and a duty free shop in the centre, the bus arranges to collect you from a location under the clock at the market from there. The hotel entertainment is a good laugh, u manager, was an incredibly happy, hard working person, who we'd also like to thank for the guests evening on the roof top bar, plenty of jokes and drinks, the staff take time to know your name and call you by it, a great personal touch from you all! The cleaning staff always ensured our room was well cleaned and never once did we have a problem with the cleanliness. We'd like to thank the last at reception, who was always smiling, happy to help and went above and beyond for us. Rowena had the news that she had a job interview, and had to start making notes (On holiday mind!!). We weren't prepared, but the lady at reception brought her a note pad from home to use, so thank you so much for that, it really surprised us at how far the staff were willing to go to help us! Overall, we loved the Bel Jou! Though we'd love to return, we have a lot more adventures to go on before we consider coming back, but if we do ever return to beautiful Saint Lucia, the Bel Jou will be our destination. Thank you Josh and Row (Swansea) Read less

we arrived in St Lucia on the 3rd December, we stayed in room 108, had no idea what to expect as there was nothing when we left the airport, we arrived at the hotel to be met with smiles, friendliness, helpfulness and of course the welcoming drink. i must admit from what we see it seemed nice and small. there are things to do in the hotel like fitness rooms massage pool aerobics and some games, as well as relax by one of the 2 pools. it is set in some gardens with a variety of birds and a load of small geckos and large moths. very colorful and does host a beautiful view of the bay for ocean liners and the Caribbean sea, if like me i went to the top bar and got a perfect picture of the moon. Restaurant Alvin is the top chef or chef manager, sir you are a sincere credit to your profession and to the hotel, it is very hard to find a person that is dedicated through and through from the heart, you have passion sir and i was honored to enjoy what we had, so i say a very big thankyou. there is a variety of hot and cold breakfast, with cereals fruit cheese, oatmeal bacon sausages eggs baked beans, the list is endless. but all was buffet unless you went to a la carte, we liked the buffet to be fair, it was tasty plentiful. the same for lunch and dinner, there are snack bars as well if u wanted to stay by the pool, again serving a host of wonderful food and drinks. Rooms we had a lovely room, it was spacious and free, it was shower only but that was fine, it was a bit moderate but other things out weighed that. the hotel does do a shuttle to Castries 5 times a week and a few other places and with that you can book excursions there as well. We had a lovely two weeks here and were sorry we had left, will i be back oh yes with any hesitation. the only advise i would say here is that mosquito repellent with you, unfortunately you will need it SO THANKYOU, AND VERY BIG THANKYOU Read less
