We stayed at the Bel Jou for 14 nights between June and July. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience - in the same theme as many other reviews, the staff and level of service was great in all areas of the hotel and this makes the stay - we really felt recognised and cared for. The hotel was generally quiet and felt under-subscribed for time of year, which was a benefit. Our stay was also mid-hurricane, during which the level of care for us as guests was commendable; maintenance teams prepared the hotel structurally whilst us guests were briefed on security measures and arrangements over the course of the national lock down. Many of the staff stayed in resort and away from home and family to ensure we were fed and looked after, which we felt above and beyond expectations. We felt the food options were good and there were options available at all times of the day - be it fast food at the cabana, snacks in the coffee shop or the hot buffet and menu in both the upstairs restaurants. The buffet food was always fresh and plentiful and changed daily based on theme. We are always advocates of trying local cuisines when away and enjoyed the options that were available, including the Caribbean and creole dishes so were happy not to see a chip or chicken nugget for the duration. We did feel the fine dining offering needed refining however, as over the 3 occasions we ate there, the menu and food options were mediocre, and quality on a par with the main buffet. The pools and facilities on site were good and the setting peaceful. Unfortunately we found on a few occasions that other guests did not adhere to the pool rules, and these were not reinforced by the bel jou team ie the open playing of music, which showed disregard for other guests. The gym was also equipped enough for all my needs during the stay. We hired a car for the duration of our visit, not wanting to be confined to the resort and found this the most convenient method of transport around the island, given taxis are expensive and public transport difficult to fathom - this enabled us to get to places such as the private beach at Pigeon Island and some of the attractions towards the south - we really enjoyed a meal and the bean to bar experience at Hotel Chocolat near Soufriere. Parking at the hotel was never an issue, however roads up to which are extremely steep. We initially questioned the hotel gate security and signing in/out process however later found 2 trips to Castries slightly unwelcoming, and on the second, were heckled with abuse on the walk back to the hotel - following which we did not leave the hotel on foot again. This does not however reflect in my experience of the Bel Jou however - overall we had a comfortable and relaxing stay at the hotel. Read less

We chose this hotel to celebrate our joint 60th birthdays & we weren’t disappointed at all, soon realising we had made a good choice. From the very warm welcome when we arrived to the friendly, caring staff & management. Nothing was too much trouble for them to make our stay as memorable & enjoyable as possible. The hotel is perched on a hillside with lovely panoramic views over Castries & Vigie beach & surrounding hillside. Not an ideal location for walking as the hill is steep & no pavements, however, there was a free shuttle bus that will take you to the beach or into town so this was a great service. During our stay we encountered a Tropical storm from hurricane Beryl & the staff & management ensured that we were kept well informed & safe. We were made to feel like family which certainly helped us through the situation. During our stay we met some lovely guests which added to a great friendly atmosphere, that is one of the adhering things about this small adults only hotel. Food was excellent with plenty of choice, all fresh & tasty. The cocktails were very enjoyable as was the bbq evening with entertaining fire eaters & dancers. We would highly recommend this gem of a place in Saint Lucia, Thank you to Dean (GM) & all the staff for making our special birthdays so memorable Read less

We arrived just before hurricane Beryl arrived and we where kept informed by management throughout they went down to a skelton staff just to look after the guests most leaving there own families we where lucky it just brushed the island and all was safe . The barbecue was a success on both occasions fire eaters limbos very entertaining the whole hotel just makes you chill . A good thing is ask reception to book taxis to beach's and pay them saves hassle ie 80 dollars return to pidgeon island. Great to see all the staff again and to have Devon back is great cocktails are mmmmmm food so much choice hummingbird fine dining a great choice . We love this place and they all feel like family now so good will definitely be back already missing it Read less
