As a female solo traveller coming to the end of a long stay at Bel jou, I can only report wnderful things! If you are alone and want somewhere safe and friendly with the opportunity to join in as much or as little as you like....then this is the place for you. All rooms are comfortabke...there are a great number of steps, but if you let them know of any walking problems, you shoukd be accommodated somewhere suitable. The newly refurbishwd bungalows are gorgeoos, what they lack in sea view is made up for in stylish decor. Thhe main block rooms are a little "tired" in decor, but very comfortable, very well equipped with a glorious view over the sea about 1/2 a mile away. The food is fantastic...a range to suit all tastes. There are alternate buffet/a la carte evening meals, and a Cabana menu of burgers/tacos/wraps for lunch. There is a Chef's Table on a Friday night where Alvin, the head chef, cooks in front of up to 12 people...about 2 hours of culinary delight. This is free of charge and booked at reception on a first come, first served basis. A brilliant evening!! The staff at Bel Jou (all staff from the GM Dean down) are second to none...they are so friendly, approachable and willing to make your stay a wondrful experience, nothing is a problem! And boy...can they dance!! If you want to see some of the island, use the hotel shuttle bus to Vigie or Pigeon Island. Other trips available include the catamaran trip.....a full day of entertainment which allows you to experience a lot of what St Lucia has to offer. Or...go to Gros Islet to the Jump Up street party on a Friday night.....music, beer and dancing. Unlike other hotel complexes on the island, Bel Jou is small, only about 75 rooms. You get an opportunity to speak to other guests, make friends & enjoy all the island has to offer. Don't think about it.....just do it!! Read less

spent ten days on this beautiful island with lovely people and stayed in this excellent hotel. Was supposed to stay in one of the garden bungalows but they weren't finished so upgraded to the hotel; lovely room with a comfy bed. The shining stars were the chefs who made us excellent food whether it be breakfast or dinner, buffet or a la carte and as I don't eat red meat, the chef very kindly adapted dishes for me replacing steak with chicken. I also used the gym and now I want a exercise bike with a big comfy seat like yours. We had a fantastic time and we will return. Read less
