We go somewhere in the Caribbean every year (and a fair few other places too), and in 2019 it was East Winds’ turn to add to our experiences. Not our first St Lucia trip, and certainly not the last either … there’s something about the people that makes us happy. And the staff at East Winds did that 100%, so thank you all for your smiles and excellent service. I won’t go on in great detail, as other folks here have said it all anyway. However >>> Our Deluxe cottage was excellent - comfortable and in good condition, and we really enjoyed being tucked away in those magnificent grounds. The Beach area was nicely spread out, with plenty of shade and very good furniture, where we spent most of the day every day. Sadly the beach drinks service hardly ever happened: water bottles distributed on just 2 occasions, and on one occasion someone came round enquiring about drinks orders. On that basis, the little blue flags seemed pointless, as they can’t be seen from the bar anyway! The Bar was friendly and efficient, although as smokers we inevitably had to go outside and thus miss some of the socialising - that’s our fault, of course! Dining was a mixed bag. Dinner was almost invariably superb, and the best we’ve encountered in the Caribbean - thanks, Chef! Lunch was usually good too, with plenty of variety in both format and ever-changing options. Breakfast, sadly, was a bit dull. Same choice every day, available self-service from those chafing dishes that don’t honestly keep food HOT - I understand Judith has plans to address that aspect. Paula’s egg/pancake station was the saving grace - thank you, Ma’am. Overall, a very pleasant week in a lovely establishment. Just a few niggles prevented a 5-star rating … sorry, Judith! Read less

Despite visiting East Winds many times it is still one of my favourite places. The Entertainment provided was excellent this year with regulars Dien and Tommy, pianists, the shak shak band (just slightly over-amplified on occasion) , the steel band who play Saturday and Wednesday lunchtimes and newcomers, David on Guitar - really sensitive playing and a lovely voice, and Manassi Edwards - a very talented young steel band player. The staff as usual were superb and really looked after the guests. Ezra being a welcome addition and the singing by Junias and Selma a highlight of the dinners. Room 30 was lovely as usual as was 27 which we were upgraded to temporarily and which I liked very much. Housekeeping was a little shaky at the start but rectified to its usual 5* standard quickly. The apparently seamless service is under the watchful eye of the superb GM, Judith Milne and I would like to personally thank her for dealing with a rather sensitive issue which occurred during the holiday. Great fun, fellow guests were all lovely and many happy meals under the Cabana with a somewhat extended guest list on a few occasions! Thanks to the various staff including Devon, Kirby, Sylvia and Patricia, Aunty Paula and all the kitchen staff who looked after us there and for Titus's superb management of the restaurant. 5 Stars all round.. Thanks and hope to see you again next year. Read less

I left my husband to submit this year's review of East Winds - our most favourite hotel in the world! He has just posted his latest tome and in it, he has broken our golden rule of NOT mentioning individual staff by name because in our experience, all the staff from the front desk, housekeeping, security, watersports, gardeners, waiting staff, bartenders and everyone else all do a fantastic job in making sure each and every guest, new or repeater have a wonderful time and it seems unfair to single out anyone. So although he mentioned a few of the "stars" this year, as a result of the early onset of senile decay, he omitted a whole bunch of people who also added that extra sparkle for us this year.  Hannah, who was the best cocktail maker when we first went to East Winds now works behind the scenes. She came out to find us to apologise for something missing from our "customise your room" request and to assure us that this was in hand. It was great to chat and catch up with you Hannah. Crystal who also looked after us at lunchtime when dining in the Cabana, you did a fantastic job looking after any combination between 2 and 8 of us, thanks to both you and Devon too. To Linton and Hopkins who are usually more out of sight in the kitchen but this year seemed to be more visible, and Tadej who barbequed that perfect fish for my husband - no mean feat indeed, thanks for your happy, friendly and helpful attentiveness at meal times, as well as your terrific cooking! Titus, congratulations for the atmosphere you have created in the restaurant. Even when at 95% capacity, service ran smoothly with a relaxed atmosphere. It was lovely to see Selma happily dancing about and to meet the charming Ezra, " the new kid on the block". I must also mention the lovely and very efficient Septima, along with the wonerful Eli and not forgetting Kirby who could always tbe relied upon to bring us the latest cricket score! None of this is possible without Judith, she genuinely cares for the health and wellbeing of each guest while they stay at East Winds. I could go on and on because every member of staff brings that extra special something to East Winds which for us continues to be "The small resort with a big heart" Thank you, see you next year! We have been going to East Winds for a long time now. As soon as we set foot on the property we feel relaxed and comfortable. The genuine welcomes and affection shown to us by so many of the staff are wonderful and unforgettable. We have always enjoyed our holidays there but over the last three years or so, the hotel has improved immeasurably under the influence of the superb management of Judith. The running of the hotel comes across to us as a labour of love. After the major renovations of the last few years, there were more minor tweaks this year that just make the experience more pleasing. On top of this, the intangible elements seemed even stronger than ever - the air of peace and relaxation, the attitude of the staff and the attention to detail wherever one looks. It feels that for two weeks or so a year we have another family and we can think of no other place that we would prefer to go to. Without exception, all the staff are brilliant but particular ’thanks’ must go to Sylvia for her kindness and attentiveness in the bar and Patrisca for the way in which she looked after us particularly at lunchtimes in the sometimes, rather full cabana! I must also mention Stanley, who kindly accompanied me around the resort on a couple of occasions. Full of energy and enthusiasm, he’s no great conversationalist but is still fantastic company! The guests were as delightful as ever. It was lovely to meet up again with old friends and acquaintances. Although the resort is so peaceful and relaxing, there were occasional outbursts of fun and games when we all got together. Pass the Pigs in the shared open-air lounge just up from the beach, whilst working through the contents of our refrigerators and watching the sunsets as well as some rather lengthy lunches in a cabana were all enormous fun. The entertainment is generally.... errrm... entertaining! As well as the traditional East Winds performers, there is now a guitarist, David who is a beautiful player and a welcome addition. 'The Dynamic Duo' create a pretty good party atmosphere for a couple of hours on a Saturday evening. It’s most entertaining seeing not only the guests up and enjoying the music but also watching the rather disturbing dancing of those “smooth operators”, Junias and Windell. Not sure about their dancing but they sure are great bartenders! Then after the revelry, it all goes quiet again. Peace and tranquility is restored. And all I can hear is the comforting and soothing singing of the tree frogs along with the rhythmic percussion of the waves lapping on the beach.….. zzzzz zzzzz! Read less

Well we have become one of those returning couples. This time it took us a couple more days to settle in but again East Winds sucked us into its gentle, relaxed and cheerful ambience. This place just works, it is the staff that outwardly make you feel special but on returning I now begin to recognise that the management also massively add to the flavour. Everyone seems genuinely happy to be part of the team and therefore go that extra mile. The consequence is that , in my experience, all the guest are genuinely happy to be enjoying their East Winds stay. Happy employees and happy guests, a perfect formula. Would we bring my children (18-22) to East Winds - possibly not, the resort is too gentle to have my kids bombing in the pool. Will we be back - certainly. Read less
