The other water sports on offer were also good, even had a go at water skiing! Food was generally to a great standard. The stay at one play at three was a good option, unfortunately due to the local jazz festival, the inter resort shuttle was not running for 3 days, which could cause some guests an annoyance. Overall I’d recommend the resort to anyone who is after a quiet, relaxed break, with plenty of food and water sports on offer. Read less

This was our third visit in two years with a fourth one booked in the Autumn so we are clearly more than happy with Sandals Halcyon Beach. A typical day would be early morning coffee followed by a swim in the (usually deserted) river. A leisurely breakfast followed by a morning on a lounger reading, admiring the view, listening to the waves and (occasionally) dozing. A buffet lunch at Bayside and then retreat to air conditioned room to avoid afternoon heat. Another swim at dusk again in the usually deserted river followed by dinner and maybe evening entertainment. Our room was Club level swim up which gave easy access to the river a few steps from the door. Room was clean, comfortable, regularly serviced with efficient a/c good wifi and a reasonable choice of TV channels. Bathroom was a little dated with a shower over the bath but everything worked well. In room drinks was regularly re-sticked with our preference for diet drinks noted. We took one excursion a catamaran explorer which journeyed down the coast giving three opportunities to swim/ snorkel. We planed to visit The Grand but somehow never got round to it. Restaurant choices for breakfast are Kellys table service which can be a bit slow but food is always good and well presented, or Bayside a self service buffet, helpful if you are on a deadline to make a trip. For lunch Bayside offers a themed buffet the theme changes each day. American, International, British, Asian, Indian and Italian as I remember. Alternatively Seaside Grill offers Comfort Food. For Dinner Kellys (seafood or steak), Bayside (French themed) , Marios (Italian themed) , Soy (sushi) and Kimonos (Chinese food theatre) give a good choice of options. During our 14 night stay we never had a bad meal and lots of good ones. It seems possible not only to get drinks in your room but always be able to find a bar open any time between 10am and 2am. Despite the obvious temptations we did not see any drunken behaviour or other issues. The staff were friendly and it was nice to be welcomed back by some familiar faces. The management of the resort were very visible taking time out to greet and chat with guests. Only downside is the 90 minute or so airport transfer along twisty hilly roads but other than opting for a helicopter transfer this is unavoidable. I am trying to put into word what keeps us coming back.... the best I can do is use this years slogan Welcome Home.... it really does feel like a second home staffed by friends. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Nice place but we were badly failed by “Returning guest” process

We loved the location, the pools, the room, the food and drink, most staff were friendly, and the water sports. You will probably love this place. We ignored some minor issues and enjoyed our vacation. But we were disappointed by how Sandals treated us as returning guests. They treat returning guests to an exclusive dinner, a bottle of rum, and a t-shirt to make us feel special. We were excited about this, because we got married and spent our 2 week honeymoon AT THIS RESORT in 1998. This was our "homecoming" trip to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. We told Sandals about this before: I joined Sandals Select; I emailed Sandals UK sales explaining this and sent them our wedding photo taken at the resort with resort staff (in case they still worked there). Sandals Sales (Sarah) said she passed this on to Halcyon Sales Manager (Melissa). But did they welcome us back? No. No dinner invitation, no rum. Instead of making us feel like valued returning guests, we felt like the unpopular kids who were left out of the party. After talking to the "Sandals Loyalty" team four times, we at least got the t-shirts that say "welcome back", even though we weren't really welcomed back. We are older now with more money and time and we want to see more Caribbean islands in the future. Will we prioritize Sandals for Caribbean trip #3, #4, #5? After this snub, hell no! Read less

This trip was absolutely amazing! We stayed at the Halcyon in a butler swim up room and the experience was unlike anything else. I’m going to brake this review up into categories based on staff, food, resort, and room. So for those looking for something specific you can jump there to find it! Staff: I want to take a moment and say everyone at the resort was absolutely amazing! Everyone was incredibly friendly and few of the stand outs were Kimanie and Amy at Kimonos, Dawn and Faith from Red Lane Spa, Mairicia at Bayside, and Prisus from Marco’s. Olivia at Kelly’s single handedly salvaged our anniversary dinner with how kind she was. She had amazing hospitality, given that the restaurant was having a very off night, which made the long waits and nonexistent check ins from our actual server more reasonable. It really turned our night around. Boozie, Jenny, and honestly the whole entertainment team were absolutely phenomenal! Mecelyn was one of the best photographers my partner and I have ever had. Valine and Vernisha from the photo shop really simplified what we were looking for in our photos we wanted to take home. Cleus with Lotalty and Travel really helped us simplify our options for booking our next adventure. Arielle in the gift shop was great for helping with recommendations on which of the cigars were best for what my partner was looking for. Again everyone on staff was amazing and very personable. It’s a small resort so they learn your name and it makes you feel even more “at home” than when staying in a bigger resort with more guests. The butlers: we had Tyler, Krista, Veto for our butlers and I could not speak more highly of them. Even when attending to their other couples, they would make sure to say hello and check if we needed anything or for them to get whoever our butler at that time was. They absolutely made our experience what it was and we adored having them. As for those wondering if you really need a butler, for this resort, probably not. It is a smaller resort so there is almost always a beach cabana or chairs at the pool available for walk up. However, the butlers are absolutely a luxury if you truly want a vacation where you make minimal decisions and just show up and enjoy yourself. (Hello burned out/decision fatigued professional I’m talking to you). They will help you decide and arrange your dinner plan for the length of your stay, which can for the most part be modified at any time. They will make arrangements for your breakfast should you want room service for breakfast in bed or a table overlooking the water at either of the two breakfast locations. They will also bring your meals to you wherever you have chosen to spend your time, be it one of the pools, or on the beach, or in any of the daybeds scattered through the gardens. They learn what type of drinks you do and don’t like and will always have one ready and waiting to be served to you as they show you to your reserved seats at whatever location you selected. Truly they are amazing to have and make it so all you have to do is show up because everything else has been or will be taken care of. It’s also nice if you’re in a small group (4 people) as they are more able to make reservations at the various restaurants for dinners so you can sit together without having to potentially wait as long to be seated. So, it’s definitely something to consider going with a small group of friends. However, if you’re in a group of six or more, I would recommend potentially two groups with butlers, as it is a lot for one team to accommodate as we learned on a previous trip. Food: The food at this resort was good, as is the case with any Sandals, however we were a little disappointed with the limited light options. Read: you can’t just get a snack or little treat anywhere at this resort. We also found Kelly’s to be underwhelming for what it is and with it being considered the “nicest” restaurant on property, we were not overly impressed. The food was also probably the least appetizing of the entire trip. Given that we spent our anniversary dinner there, we felt we were let down. It may have just been an off night, but from what we observed several other guests left dinner without ever getting their food because the wait was so long. So I would recommend going to one of the other resorts for a special dinner over dining at Kelly’s just based on our experience. Every other restaurant however, was fantastic, the food was prompt and delicious, the staff were attentive, and the wait was minimal. Resort The resort itself was very clean and well kept. It is located right in town so certain areas will naturally have more noticeable sounds of traffic than others and occasionally you do hear some noisy modified car but that’s beyond their control. This is minimal and infrequent but worth noting all the same. If you’re going full seclusion this may not be the choice for you if hearing traffic in any way will be overly disruptive to your trip. That said the resort is bigger than it seems while still being relatively small. It never felt overly crowded or claustrophobic, and there is ample seating at the pools as well as on the beach. It is a public beach and unlike some resorts there’s no resort exclusive area on the beach. Once you hit the sand the vendors are right there. And while they’re friendly they are still trying to sell you things. This didn’t bother us too much as they would leave you alone if you said you weren’t interested, as well they all have their own areas and stick to them so it’s not hard to avoid them if you want. As for pools there were two general pools. One was tucked away back near Kimons and we only passed by this pool in the evening so I cannot say what the vibe was but based on appearance it was a nice area with several cabanas and lounge seating areas around the pool and within what appeared to be a lazy river type of set up. Our pool time was mainly spent at the main pool listening to trivia and playing pool volleyball, and most of our down time at the pool was spent in the swim up section off our room. It was odd though as neither of the main pools appeared to have the signature sandals floats. They were in all the swim up room pools which was abnormal to us but not something anyone seemed to mind. The beach cabanas were your standard sun loungers so nothing crazy but they serve their purpose. They don’t lay flat out by the beach but they do at the pool so if you want to lay on your stomach the pool has better sun loungers for it. There are a lot of daybeds spread throughout the garden areas that are a great place to curl up with a book and hangout in the in between hours when you’re not quite ready for dinner but are ready for a quiet reprieve from the sun and pool. The evening entertainment each night was held by the main pool and always made for a good night. They had fun games and dancing most nights so you could always find something happening on the main patio area. Overall this resort was a nice, quiet, and a relaxing retreat with options for those who want to have things to do and those who want to sit back and relax and do nothing. Room: We stayed in the swim up butler suit with the tranquility soaking tub. Our room was clean and close to the main areas but far enough it didn’t feel like a hike to get to food or anything we wanted to do. We ended up with the end unit of the 4 room section we were apart of which was great and added for more privacy as we had shrubs in front of and to the side of our room where the middle units had stairs that opened up to the walking path so they had less privacy to their back patio space. Where we were located allowed for a view of the ocean from the middle units so there were still pros to those rooms as well. We did get to witness a wedding as the wedding pavilion was directly in front of the rooms we were staying in so that was a cool for us, but maybe a little odd for the couple. So, if you’re considering getting married at the resort, you will absolutely have strangers watching your wedding, whether you go to the pavilion or beach. But back to the room. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. I do wish they offered more firm pillow options as the down pillows are very soft and squishy but offer almost no support. The tranquility tubs are so nice, and retain heat forever. On our last night, Krista arranged for us to come back from our excursion to the tub filled with bubbles and confetti’s with a farewell message spelled out on the floor and when we went to use it it was still almost too hot to get into and stayed hot for the entire time we were in and was still hot when we got out and went to bed. The dual shower had good water pressure and the other room amenities were functional and they kept our bar stocked at all times. We had great views of the sunset through our patio windows and the swim up was so nice to enjoy quiet pool time. Every afternoon we would come back to the swim up and take a nice relaxing nap in the swim up and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the water feature and sound of the ocean just a few yards away. Overall our stay at Halcyon was amazing and it was a great experience that made us feel relaxed and rejuvenated and when it came time to leave we definitely weren’t ready as it was so enjoyable. If you’re looking for a more fun filled time where you can interact with other guests of the resort while still maintaining your own sense of personal relaxation, Sandals Halycon Beach is a top tier pick! We would recommend this resort to anyone who is looking for a Bahamian vacation. Read less

It was so disappointing, we left after one day and moved to Grande St. Lucian. They screwed up the reservation changes, refused to give me a comparable room, had to pay an additional $8,600 for the Presidential Suite plus another room, even though lesser rooms were available. Still haven't gotten it straightened out nor my points. Staff are not friendly and many will look down and/or away when you walk past them. Billiards tables are unlevel and there are pillars on each side which prohibit you from lining up your shot. They are also very close together so you have to make sure you are not bumping the person behind you. No scuba or snorkeling on-site and it is not disclosed on their website. You will have to travel to another location to get on the boat. Arrived late on a Saturday so went to eat at the only restaurant that was open. The woman there was very bothered by us showing up. Evidently she just wanted to spend her late night on her phone. Made me a bread sandwich that was supposed to be a BLT, but they didn't have hardly any bacon. Only had 2 scheduled pool volleyball games the entire week, and took down the net after a few games. If your idea of a vacation is to sit in a pool and get drunk, this is the place for you. If not, stay far away. Read less
