This review is specifically for Jean Claude, the Hibachi chef, at the Kimono restaurant. Not only was he hilarious and great with the customers, he also prepared a wonderful meal and made us want to return to come and visit in the future. Keep doing what you're doing JC!

My husband and I spent a lovely 10 nights at the La Toc to celebrate our honeymoon. I love reading a detailed review, so I'll try to give as much info as I can. Room: We had a Honeymoon Hideaway room (#67) and the room was lovely except for mold in the bathroom. It didn't affect our trip, but it was a bit of an eyesore. In hindsight, we wish we would have paid to have a higher standard of room instead of the entry-level Butler service. We asked to upgrade whilst we were there, but they quoted us more than the holiday itself! We did utilise the pool in the room on 2 days, but because of the location, we didn't get a lot of sun. Also, unlike the other butler level rooms, the Honeymoon Hideaway rooms are far away from the butler office. That's on us, though. Butlers: Our butlers were really helpful! However, I'm not sure we ever adjusted to asking someone to do what we considered to be menial tasks multiple times throughout the day. Butlers are some of the only staff you can tip, so I think they appreciate being utilised to get a good tip at the end of the trip. As an example, we carried our suitcases to the end of the walk way to get picked up the at the end of our trip and our butler seemed to be offended that we hadn't asked them to do it. We did use the butlers though - for example, to reserve us loungers at the sunset bluff pool (not allowed to do the main pool, but we prefer a quieter pool anyway) and lifts to/from restaurants. I do believe that they really care about giving you the best holiday possible. They communicated well with one another and would check in with us to make sure that they had the right info. They decorated our room twice during the holiday and that was a lovely touch. We ended up tipping £100 per butler, but we weren't sure if that was too cheap. I went from suggestions on the internet, but tipping isn't a big part of the culture in Wales so we don't have a good metric to go from. Food & drink: As expected, it was a mix of okay and lovely food. We didn't have a bad meal the entire time, though. Our butlers brought us pizza most days without asking which was fab. Our favourite restaurant was the Pitons. The view from the restaurant was beautiful at sunset. We went to the La Toc pretty early into our holiday and it was uncomfortable! It felt like they were trying to be so fancy that nobody was allowed to speak. I commented on the lack of sound in the room and another couple next to us thanked us for mentioning it as they thought they were just loud speakers! The drink choices were vast but the simpler the order, the better - I had a good margarita but a horrible spicy margarita. Pools/Entertainment: As I noted earlier, we preferred a quieter setting, so we were very happy to use the sunset bluff pool everyday. We did spend our penultimate day at the main pool, but we had to get up earlier to ensure a good seat. Most towels are down by 8am and they're not removed unless someone hasn't turned up by the late morning. The music at the sunset bluff pool was a daily repeat of the same live recordings of popular songs, which became a bit repetitive over 10 days. The day we spent at the main pool, the DJ played some weird remixes of children's tv shows with pop songs. It was odd trying to lie by the pool with the Spongebob Squarepants and Danny Phantom intro songs! The evening entertainment is on a 7 day rotation, which wasn't always for us but it gave some good variety. We especially enjoyed finishing the evenings in The Cricketers to watch some karaoke. Even the servers joined in! Staff: We couldn't fault the staff. They were hard at work in the heat and humidity. They were always friendly and our housekeepers were especially lovely. We had someone clean our room's pool daily, too. Other things to note: I'm not sure if it's an year-round thing due to the island's location, but sunset is at 6pm! We went during the wetter season, but we only had one morning when it wasn't really viable to be outside. Other than that, the rain passed fairly quickly (max 10 mins) but it comes down hard. Finally, I am not a beach person at all, but I had seem some reviewers talk about how the beach was mostly unusable during their stay. We didn't experience any of that. We spent one day at the beach and aside from our last day, the flags were either green or yellow. Read less

This was our first time to a Sandals resort after hearing so many good things about them. The pickup from the Airport was smooth enough, however, the reception area for Sandals at the Terminal is not well sign posted so you could (like us) walk past it! Our room was a beach view which was nice, the room itself was large and spacious with plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. It is also extremely well sound proofed; we heard nothing from either the guests above or next door at any time. It has no balcony which we really missed in the late afternoon and the room safe is not very practical as its very tall but with little depth to it. Housekeeping was hit and miss, and we had to chase up towels and fridge replenishment on quite a few occasions so that was quite disappointing. Although it must be said that once the items were delivered, we always received a call to ensure everything was ok. The complex itself is large but well spread out, some parts look quite tired and could do with renovation. It has three pools the main one with the customary swim up bar (which like most other resorts is a magnet for our North American friends who seem happy to spend a large part of the day around!) it does therefore get quite noisy and the other two are a lot quieter. One thing that both annoyed and surprised me was the way some people (mostly Brits it must be said) openly smoked around the pool in full view of staff but nothing was done. There are smoking areas for these people provided. Whilst I accept you can’t stop these self-entitled idiots from lighting up, I do feel that the staff should have policed it more and asked them to refrain. On more then one occasion we moved as we didn’t want the smoke to spread to us and make us smell as bad as them but then we come up against people vaping which is almost as obnoxious as stale tobacco smoke. The restaurants are excellent, we ate in all except the Suhsi and the meals were all well-cooked, just about the right portion sizes and the service excellent. There is a shuttle service between some of the restaurants so if you don’t feel like the walk wait for one of these, also some restaurants do close on certain days so best to check first. Long trousers are needed for men in La Toc and we did see people turned away in casual shorts (if only the smoking policy was as well policed!) The main breakfast area doubles up as a buffet most nights. The breakfast buffet is good (as is the lunch) without being spectacular. They could do with covering the fruit up as the area is open it does attract fly’s. The Grande (which we visited twice) have in my opinion a better lunch time buffet with more choice and it is enclosed. It also offers a nice seating area. The Grandes seating areas overall are really big and you have no trouble finding one near or away from the bars to enjoy a drink or two, unlike in La Toc where the seating is extremely limited. There is an English Pub and they do basic food (burgers, ribs etc) the service is very good in there (like most of the resort) but it can get busy particularly on Karaoke night. During our stay the Air Conditioning failed in the Cricketers as well as Armandos so they really need to be on the ball about ensuring they get it up and running quickly, we left the Cricketers twice because the heat was unbearable exacerbated by the adjacent kitchen, In summery overall the positives (such as no children just couples, all inclusive, good service, great food) outweighed the negatives at the resort. The cost is certainly a lot higher than other similar resorts on this and other islands and I feel to stay ahead of the game they will need to address certain issues. We would definitely return to St Lucia and Sandals but would probably book into the Grande which looks more modern and spacious then La Toc but overall a nice way to spend two weeks. Read less
