Great location, great food, generally good but occasionally surly service. Butler service not worth it - could have been a central operator as we hardly ever saw them. Room a little tired. Public part of the beach looked like a refugee camp. Shuttle service totally hit and miss.

Our stay couldn't have been more enjoyable. From the moment we got to the airport we knew we had made the right choice. Airport arrival: We were greeted after clearing customs with a cold towel and water prior to our driver picking us up. Transfer: ride to the report has a lot of turns, so if you get car sick I would recommend motion sickness medicine prior to the ride. That being said it's very scenic, and our driver did a great job of making it an educational experience along the way. Arrival: we had the pleasure of being greeted with a freshly sliced coconut and we were quickly escorted to our room. The room was perfect with a nice welcome amenity which had some local rum and chocolate (some of the best chocolate I've ever had). Service: butler service throughout was amazing. You need a shuttle if you're up on the hill to get to the terrace restaurant or beach, but you can walk if you don't mind the downhill slope. (we did it a couple times). They're very quick with the shuttle and it never took more than 10 minutes from the time we called. Beach service was very good, and we always felt like there was plenty of availability no matter what time we arrived. The pool scene was quiet as the beach is right there, and very tempting to choose over the pool (since the beach is soo picturesque.) Service at the gym was great as well. We went daily at 7-7:30AM. The trainer was there daily and always offered some nice tips without making you feel like you had to work out with them privately. Tennis was a great amenity as well and you could easily grab the racket and balls without needing to rent it out or book a session with the Pro. Special Notes: Sunsets are amazing ANYWHERE on the resort. special note though is to call a car to the fitness center and walk up the steps to the private event space which also overlooks the entire resort. It's a secluded spot that we went to a couple times and there was never more than 1 or 2 people there. Food: We had the Terrace room daily for breakfast. I ate the same item every day, so I'm not the best person to review this, but it was delicious. "Rancheros". The Bayside restaurant was good as well. We only had dinner there one night and lunch we usually ordered to our lounge chair on the beach. Read less

The views are only equaled by the spectacular service displayed by each every staff member we came in contact with. The staff that took care of our room was outstanding and looked after every detail. The Resort Manager, Petra Trapp was wonderful. She was truly concerned about your thoughts on the property and any ideas on how to make it better. The Great Room is a lovely fine dining experience with of terrific views and the staff was excellent. The food was good and my wife especially enjoyed the steak. I would recommend this resort to anyone but your life will never be the same again. Read less

We stayed at Sugar Beach for five nights to celebrate an occasion and we were delighted to be given a room upgrade to a cottage. It was wonderful - large room with sofa, chair and huge bed. Plenty of wardrobe space and a little area with kettle, fridge etc. Beautiful shower room. Outside we had a large area with table and chairs, loungers and a garden room with comfy chairs and a fan if needed. Most spectacular was a large circular infinity plunge pool with views over the rainforest and the sea in the background. All completely private. The whole estate is magnificent with beautiful buildings and gardens. The beach is wonderful and you can snorkel from it. We also took a boat trip which was good fun. We were half board and we ate in the Bayside restaurant which is directly off the beach, and the Great Room which has a marvellous terrace overlooking the sea. Food in both was excellent with lots of choice and great service. Breakfast on the Terrace was also wonderful with a vast choice of food. Without exception, every member of staff was charming and helpful and provided an excellent service. We were sad to leave. Read less

Disappointed with lack of fresh seafood at the resort restaurants. The staff was well trained, friendly and accommodating. Very nice property with very good facilities that are well maintained. The setting is exquisite.
