At first, when we arrived, we were a bit disappointed in the staff which did not seem to be poised to offer us much help or accommodation. But we soon learned that part of this is just the "island life" culture of St. Lucia. As time went on, much of the staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. There were always nice treats left in the room (rum and mixers one night, cakes, cookies, coasters, etc.) The room was cleaned regularly. There is an abundance of restaurants, and given the expense to take a taxi, the best options are dining at the resort. The Cane Bar is a sushi restaurant (with a pool table and a billiards table) and live entertainment Thursday nights (DJ) and live band Friday nights.. The food is excellent. The Bayside restaurant is right on the beach and beautiful. The food is also great. We also liked the casual day bar/restaurant there. Many don't realize there is a second beach on the resort, referred to as the "r]private beach" with its own little bar. That staff was incredibly friendly. Water taxis are available right from the beach pier. This resort has the best beach of all on the island, and has views of both Gran Piton and Petit Piton. It is also very close to the Gran Piton hiking trail, which is recommended (moderate to strenuous). The buffet breakfast is very good, with huge offerings, and they include make-you-own Mimosas and Bloody Marys. All in all, a beautiful spot, with plantation-like white buildings amidst lush surroundings and beautiful vegetation. Read less

We celebrated a milestone birthday at Sugar Beach and couldn't have been more pleased with the entire experience. This was a splurge trip - we brought our three teenaged children - so were a bit concerned reading some of the not-so-positive reviews, but can report that our experience was nothing but positive. Highlights included hiking Gros Piton, snorkeling in the cove, and a private dinner at our villa featuring local dishes. My husband was able to meet privately with sommelier Alessandro to discuss the wine and with Chef Hezemiah to plan the menu. Chef Kelvin prepared the delicious food right in our kitchen, and our butler Charles brought dish after dish of delicious food. Charles did an excellent job during the week, answering our questions, arranging our activities, and making reservations when needed. The setting is breathtaking and we spent each afternoon out on our patio, in between the Pitons, watching the sun set. The scents of the flowers, the sounds of the birds and tree frogs at night, the cool breeze. There is nothing like it for getting you to slow down and forget everything that is waiting back home. Most of all, we enjoyed how friendly the staff were. Everyone we encountered said hello, asked how we were doing and wished us a blessed day. We walked back and forth from our villa to the beach and restaurants and everyone we encountered - van drivers, housekeeping staff, grounds keepers - had smiles and waves and greetings for us. Ingrid at breakfast knew exactly what we wanted before we sat down. Cejay kept our pool spotless and his insights about the importance of rain to the St. Lucians had us thinking about the afternoon sun showers very differently. We enjoyed asking about St. Lucia and talking with the staff about their island and we learned so much from those conversations. Yes, the prices are high. We did all of our research before hand (you can find all the services and fees on the resort website) and there were no surprises. We found it to be the perfect spot for our celebration and the memories of our week there are among the best of any trip we've taken. Read less

Fabulous food and impeccable service. Staff here are just wonderful throughout the resort. All inclusive offerings remain badly set up but we’ve got used to it now and it’s only annoying for wine and cocktails. Please fix it!! We used the kids club less on this trip as the kids had outgrown it a touch and preferred to play with friends at the beach and pool but when they did go in they had a great time. It remains our favourite beach holiday spot Read less

Our plunge pool made for perfect late afternoons to catch some last minute sun and sip on a beer or cocktail in the privacy of our own villa. Our meals were incredible. We never needed to leave the resort, but we did have dinner one evening at Ladera and dessert and a drink at Hotel Chocolát (both excellent). We were so well taken care of by the resort staff. They were willing to do just about anything to make our stay more enjoyable. Definitely recommend taking advantage of the spa. We hiked the Gros Piton and took a Sunset Sail. The memories we made here will last a lifetime... or until we can make another trip down to St. Lucia! Read less
