The hotel

When you arrive at the front of the Soco House, you'll feel like you've been transported to South Beach, where vintage Art Deco architecture meets contemporary sophistication. The white and blue theme gives it a breezy, beach vibe and will have you chilling out on the sand in no time. Positioned in the island's leading tourist location, you've got shops, bars, restaurants and excursions right on the doorstep, but you'll have to drag yourself away from this stylish hotel first. The pool bar is the perfect place to chill with a cocktail, or indulge the senses at the spa with a massage - the choice is yours. The food is nothing short of exceptional, with an intimate vibe in the restaurant that is reflected all over the hotel - this really is the place to be seen this year!

First I would like to point out that the staff were friendly and the high light to our stay. Yanik, Party Charles, The Doctor and the female Bartender were amazing and very friendly. The wait staff, Montal and a young lady tall light skinned with braids, cannot remember her name at this time, went above and beyond. Moving on from that, this was more like a retirement home getaway and I feel like I’ve aged 10 years since staying there. For an adult only hotel it’s not for all aged adults and if you are between the ages of 20-35 and you are looking for a good time, this is not a place to be. Unless you are looking to fully unplug for people your age and just get sun and all the drinks you can get. It’s not far from the strip so you are able to find things to do, but you will not find any entertainment at the hotel other than on Monday nights and even that is subpar. The hotel staff are not 24 hours and after 11pm there is only hotel security, but coming in late they don’t seem to ask you any questions and you can just walk in to the hotel. So if you are looking for room service or being able to have a drink in your hotel room after 11pm then this is not the place you want to stay. Moving on to the overall experience I will start with check-in, our flight was delayed which meant we checked much later then expected and upon arrival, checking was rushed and you were told to fill out a pice of paper that was left in your room but was not explained what it was and the print out was faded in some areas so you were unable to read what I was saying. When getting to the room the safe was not working, and when mentioned to the front desk it seemed like an inconvenience for her to call the maintenance team to help fix it. Then there was an issue with our room key. We were given two keys that never seemed to really work, this was brought to the front desk attention a number of time, the would do what with the card but still one of them never worked. The food at the hotel was subpar overall, but that is from my opinion as a person with St.Lucian background. The Lucían breakfast was amazing, but got boring as it was the only thing I could eat that I did not have to change. Breakfast started the same throughout the whole week. We were told to let them know if we had any special requirements for food and as someone that does not eat seafood or pork there was not much I could eat. We asked for chicken sausages for breakfast but was told that they did not have that every time was asked though were requested it. They also did not have a vegetarian option for any meal. That was disappointing and made meal time very difficult, Service was very slow and we often had to ask more them once for our drinks and to get the right order especially at breakfast time. But over all the wait staff were friendly but seemed to be bothered that we needed to make changes to are meal and still got it wrong even though they wrote it down. Montal served one evening for dinner and her was amazing and cannot fault him, he took out for 6 people all with changes without writing it down and got it all right. He commented with us if things were talking longer or was I’m unable to get what we had an asked for. Some staff were rude about us making changes to food or Letting them now know that we did not get out food the right way or asking them for coffee for the 10th since sitting down and still not receiving it. You would be met with eye tools and sighs. In the long and short of it all, this is not a place to be if you want to return home raving about the amazing experience you had in a St.Lucian Hotel. Soco house has the makes to be an amazing hotel the just need to fine tune there hotel and keep up with the standards of the hotly as my friend al most fell off a sun lounge that was braking. Dinning room chairs were mixed matched and just folding chairs with covers over them like really we can all see that they are cheap chairs, with all that we pay for our stay, they can spend less on having 50 managers on site and keep the standers of the hotel up. Service is always with a smile and a friendly chat, so many staff to mention, I wrote some names down but lost it, doh, but were served often by Marrissa, Maurri, Tamara and Angel so can confidently recall them. Food can sometimes take a while but just have another drink and relax 😌 Beach fabulous, and a cooler is provided to take beer and water. Would definitely like to return here. The only thing that wasn't good was the journey back to the airport. The driver continually overtook cars, sometimes when it wasn't safe to do so. I've never felt so pleased to get to an airport, when going home, before. Read less

All of the rooms surround the pool & it means that we don’t get much sleep on vacation! We would like to have a lie in as we work very hard & are here to relax! It would be much better if the music started @ 10:00 & was not so loud during the day. People also hang around the bar after it shuts & talk really loudly! Also last night 2 men were outside our room @ 2am talking loudly for 30 minutes. When I complained to reception they said that the men were security guards! Apart from the noise from the pool bar etc I would highly recommend the hotel. The staff are so friendly & helpful. The food is amazing! It is nice to have waiter service rather than a buffet! The restaurant is on 2 floors & they make an effort to make it look very inviting! The cocktails are yummy & plentiful. The pool is warm & is not often busy. There are mainly Canadians & English visitors here. The rooms are nice & clean & the beds are very comfortable. There is so much to do in St Lucia - we went zip lining this morning & will be going snorkelling on a catamaran trip & visiting the volcano, mud baths & waterfalls. I would recommend booking trips with your hotel rep. The beach is a 5 minute stroll away & is amazing! Lovely soft sand & great views! There is a free hike trail at the end of the beach which is quite steep but there is a great view. The sea is calm and beautiful & the hotel give you a cooler box full of drinks to take with you. The marina is a 15 /20 minute walk away & - I nearly forgot! - There’s a fab roof top bar here in the hotel - with great views & a fabulous Barman called Jamie Foxx! 🍹🍹🍹🍹 He is the best! 🎖️ If the hotel can try to limit the loud music we will be back! The service was outstanding! Our hotel representative, Jannel, made sure that everything was prepared for the group when they arrived. Check in was smooth and they even arranged a special moment for one of our guests who was celebrating a birthday

Stayed at this hotel in early April for 10 days. Would give 3.5 if could. Overall it's a good small hotel with decent food and drinks and a nice pool. Stayed at this hotel in early April for 10 days. Would give 3.5 if could. Overall it's a good small hotel with decent food and drinks and a nice pool. It's not 5* luxury or a hotel where you'll find anything much going on, but it's not claiming to be either of these things either. If you're quite chilled out about things and don't come expecting everything to be perfect all of the time, you will have a great stay. But the team does have some work to do to get it to where they pitch it to be. The rooms are really nice and fairly recently refurbed. The beds are comfy and my word, the room is cleaned and is spotless every single day. The pool and pool area are good, perhaps a bit short on bed space (doesn't seem like they have anywhere near enough for everyone), but again, if you're able to be flexible and sometimes head to the beach instead, then that's a really good solution too. The beach is so close (2 - 3 mins) and being able to take drinks from the hotel is a reasonable solution to it not being located on the beach. The beach staff (esp Shaun) are fantastic (get him in for a training session with all the hotel staff I say!). The amenities of the hotel are pretty good - nice outdoor bar, comfy sunbeds (when you get them), really great rooftop bar (a massive undersell here by Soco) and small shop. The hotel also arranges trips and can help with car hire etc. which is all really useful. The main area that needs work, as so many reviews have said, is the service. All the staff need pretty drastic training and a proper management plan - there are some brilliant and friendly staff, but then most will regularly blank you, not use any manners, seem like you're really putting them out by them doing their job. There're also a lot of staff, almost too many, as many can get away with doing a mediocre job rather than each being fully on it. The other key improvement area is the restaurant. The food is actually pretty decent - most meals we had were at least similar to going out at home in the UK, which for three times a day is brill! But... in addition to the service attitude, you have to put up with sometimes slow service, sometimes long waits for food and the fact that they seem to often run out of things on their menu. Because of their model and because this is so fundamental to any holiday, it can become quite annoying... The hotel is a la carte only (no buffet), which isn't to everyone's taste, but if that's their proposition, you have to do it really well, otherwise it becomes really frustrating. E.g. we sometimes had a ~60 minute breakfast when we just wanted a quick breakfast before heading out. At least once a day we went to order something and even though the menu is quite small, they would have run out / not had it. E.g. at least half of the days they had no yogurt or granola for breakfast. One day they ran of white wine. Another day ice cream. It's not really a massive deal (and it seems picky putting it here), but what is a frustration when on holiday is giving me a menu specifically for that day, letting me place my order (slowly) and then waiting 10 mins until you come back saying you haven't got something. I would love to kick their procurement into shape - it's not hard, you meet the day before to check you have plenty of everything and if you don't have it, you go to the many nearby supermarkets and make sure you do (like most catering outlets often have to), or you refresh the menu! I actually think there's an overall lack of discipline and humility at the hotel that means all the staff are quite lax, hence it translates into lots of different small problems that sometimes get annoying. Overall, yes I would consider staying again, because I know what to expect and I'd expect this to be reflected in the price. But no, I probably wouldn't recommend to a friend because I wouldn't want them to have to put up with these little gripes and I couldn't bet on them getting better or worse over coming months.
