The Liming Bequia

Bequia, St Vincent and the Grenadines

Virgin rating

The hotel

One of the last bastions of Caribbean exclusivity, the islanders of Bequia know how special it is – which is why the owners of this beach retreat only invite a handful of guests to stay at any one time. With just nine luxury villas, one chic Junior Suite, and the five bedroom mansion house to pick from, each with its own infinity pool or hot tub, it has the feel of a private and very exclusive estate. This elite edge continues at The Liming’s dining room, where seafood is fresh from the ocean and many other ingredients are island-sourced – and it’s all served on the sea-top terrace (or in your villa or suite if you fancy even more privacy).

Everything about this hotel was first class. A very spacious extremely well equipped villa with it’s own pool. Housekeeping visit twice a day including a tidy and turndown in the evening. Fantastic food served by delightful staff in a restaurant by the water’s edge. The hotel Manager Aoife leads from the front, she can even be found helping serve the meals in the restaurant. We’ve never encountered a Manager so freely and readily available all day. There are only nine villas so the personal touch is very noticeable, you are very quickly on first name terms with all the staff. It is worth noting this hotel is very isolated, but if like us you are seeking a quiet peaceful break it’s hard to imagine this could be bettered. Whilst there a visit to Princess Margaret beach and lower beach are highly recommended. It cost us $45 US for the return taxis, We we’re disappointingly let down at the end of our break by Virgin Holidays. Thankfully Aoife and Isobel were fantastic in helping resolve our issues even though they were in no way attributed to them. Our 45 minute flight from Bequia to Barbados was then brought forward from mid afternoon to early morning. That meant we left the hotel complex at 9:30 am for a 18:30 hrs flight home. Spending 7.5 hrs of your precious holiday time waiting about at the airport for your flight is totally unacceptable, especially if you’ve booked and paid for a mid afternoon flight. It’s worth reflecting that short flight cost in excess £925 for the round trip, so SCG Air’s attitude to their customer’s satisfaction needs addressing. We were told there is only one flight, however when we boarded the plane we pointed out our cases were not on board. The staff replied there’s not enough room they will come on the next flight, as indeed they did. In summary the Liming was fantastic and certainly exceeded our expectations. Sadly our issues with Virgin Holidays and then spending our last day at the airport mean I imagine we are unlikely to return. Read less

Went for dinner…a restaurant without soul or atmosphere… Food poor..overcooked tuna that was far from fresh, tasteless noodles and an inedible mango salad ..then a bland Key Lime pie. The service however was excellent, and the manager exceptional…she deserves better from her kitchen, as did we at those prices.

We've eaten at The Liming many times, and thoroughly enjoyed it, but haven't previously had the opportunity to stay here as guests. We've eaten at The Liming many times, and thoroughly enjoyed it, but haven't previously had the opportunity to stay here as guests. And now we've rectified that, what a fabulous experience it has been!  The villas are excellent. The decor is cool and refreshing, the floors are coral tile, the bathrooms are first rate, and the beds are deliciously comfortable. And outside is your own personal pool. So you probably won't take much advantage of the air conditioning in every room and the smart TVs.  But what really makes this place exceptional is the service from Aoife and her team. It's a small hotel, so everyone knows your name - yet every interaction is naturally friendly rather than obsequious.  And the food, as we've known for several years now, is to a very high standard.  A wonderful experience. Recommended.  Read less

Echoing previous comments of Roger and Carrie - if you’re looking for a week of sheer relaxation in paradise then this is the place for you. Our days started with tennis on the excellent court overlooking the azure waters and that was as strenuous as it got. The staff, led by Aoife and Isabel, cannot do enough without being intrusive. The accommodation is of a very high standard and the surroundings are idyllic. The menu can be a little repetitive but when the food is great, who cares? We had an evening in the harbour and were itching to get back ‘home’. If you want to return to real life relaxed and revitalized then look o further. We will be back. Read less
