It was a pleasure and a privilege to be able to relax and unwind at the Majestic Queen of Hua Hin for a week after our Songkran celebration week in Bangkok. One of the last true colonial luxury hotels in Asia and one can only ponder for how much longer such a resort will be able to remain intact with its extensive grounds, magnificent gardens and wonderful bird life (seek out the family of collared scops owls residing in the grounds) . The resort is run by one of the best general mangers we have come across - Jan Weisheit, Jan and his big smile have created a remarkable culture with his lovely staff that provide a level of service that you would expect from close friends rather than an employee / customer relationship. Wonderfully peaceful with a range of pools to suit your mood or swim up pool bar and the poolside hammocks are divine (warning set an alarm before use), watching the moon rise each evening with delicious cocktails from the Coast bar, strolling the grounds in the twilight was memorable of us as was morning walks along the lovely beach, conversing with other travelers in the Club over a few G&Ts or enjoying the expert massages in the spa. I recommend the Club rooms for the array of food and drink options throughout the day (although the range of breakfast options is obviously greater in the main restaurant). I know I am suppose to mention a bad point but honestly there was absolutely nothing to complain about) If you want to totally relax in luxury and be pampered on by such lovely people, do yourself a favor and reward yourself at Centara Hua Hin. We are staying at the hotel now for my husband’s 50th birthday . The room we have been allocated is very noisy with music from the Elephant bar on an evening. We are also literally overlooking the breakfast area which is not ideal when I want to relax early morning and all I can hear is cutlery banging and a view of a glass top roof with breakfast diners . I do feel like I am being intrusive to the diners if I sit in the balcony . The room is also opposite what I believe to be the air conditioning unit and solar panels which provide a constant humming sound during g the night . Very disappointed as the hotel is in a beautiful location . Just feel very unlucky with room allocation as I can clearly see the hotel is not busy. Read less

The fabulous time-honoured Centara Grand has been our go-to beach resort destination in Hua-Hin for several years now. It's a welcoming hug of a hotel, tastefully appointed and true to its upscale heritage (one could easily imagine a linen-suited Somerset Maugham sipping Earl Grey in its Museum tearoom). The staff, led by a genial management team, are friendly and welcoming; the overall vibe is laid back and relaxing. POSITION: The Centara occupies thirty-two verdant acres of manicured gardens, with easy access to a four-mile beach and a thriving coastal town (investigate tidal fluctuations as the beach can vary from flat and very wide to nonexistent depending on the time of year). ROOMS: If dark polished teak floors and classic decor are your thing (they are ours), you will be pleased with the guest rooms. In our experience, it is worth paying extra for a suite. FOOD: The restaurants cater to every taste and guests can choose from a variety of global cuisines. The extravagant buffet breakfasts offer enough choice to satisfy even the fussiest of eaters. OVERVIEW: Hua-Hin is a smooth three-hour drive, on an arrow-straight road, from Bangkok (just think how long you'd spend, jetlagged in an airport and on an aeroplane, were you to fly on to the islands). Reputable local travel companies will chauffeur you in air-conditioned comfort, or the hotel can pick you up. As ever, we had a fabulous stay at the Centara Grand and didn't want to leave. The staff could not have been more welcoming and our every need was met. This is a wonderfully relaxing hotel in a great location. Read less
