Apsara Beachfront Resort & Villa

The hotel

You could be forgiven for thinking the Apsara is only for water babies, with its beachfront setting, infinity swimming pool, villa pool, two kids' pools, pool villa upgrades, water slide and of course, the obligatory Jacuzzi. The Apsara is a little bubble away, where you totally forget about everything! The hotel facilities are brilliant: beautiful swimming pools, straight on the beach. The hotel is clean, gorgeous, and the rooms are massive and comfortable. We had all inclusive, and the 2 restaurants we had access to (one was closed due to COVID) kept us really happy with varied choices for 14 days, so we were really pleased with that. The location is good: it is a 1.5hr drive from Phuket airport, but it is worth being away from an airport (which is noisy and busy). It is a little away from Khao Lak centre, but that's actually great, as we just wanted some peace and quiet. For 500 Bhat you go to Khao Lak and back (15mins drive per way), which is very reasonable, if you want to eat out. There are also many excursions in the area which I recommend. The main and most important thing for us however, was the people. Thai people are just lovely in general, but we felt that the Apsara staff went above and beyond in so many ways. They always try to help you, and they are hugely respectful. The Apsara even arranged for our Day 6 COVID test (which is currently mandatory). The test was paid for when we booked our arrival test, and the Apsara team arranged free transfer to the local hospital for us, meaning we essentially lost no money, and no more the 1.5hrs. I know other travels had to pay for their taxi to the hospital, so we were so pleased with Apsara on this. That's the condition to travel during COVID, and we were more than happy to respect that! All Thai people are also very respectful of wearing a face mask, and they are so strict on anything COVID, we felt safer than anywhere else in Europe! We are currently already looking to book again next year, which proves it is a great place! Read less

Location is nice on the beach, but it is hard to swim during low tide. Hotel is clean and well maintained, but that's it. It's close to nothing, 15 min by bike to closest ATM and shop, the prices in the restaurant are crazy, 250-280 baht for a simple thai dish and 400 and above for a pizza.

However what we found in Thailand at that time they were better prepared for it than the UK. Everywhere we went there were hand sanitisers, temperature being taken and staff wearing masks. Now on to the hotel, we loved the room and the location to the elephant sanctuary and memories bar. So you may be wondering why 4 out of 5. It’s simple we booked HB and the food in the evenings at the restaurant wasn’t of great quality. So we stopped going and paid to eat at memories. That means we would go back but not waste our money on anything other than B&B. Our room was a pool villa and we enjoyed spending our days in the pool and relaxing. The room was spacious with a separate living to relax in. The outdoor shower was so nice to use! Read less
