The hotel

A deluxe resort, inspired by Thailand’s rich culture, Khaolak Merlin Resort also enjoys a divine rainforest location on a gently sloping hillside and is surrounded by well-manicured, lush gardens. Guests enjoy direct access to a private stretch of beach, perfect for relaxing in the afternoon sun. The facilities are great and will please all the family. As well as four swimming pools, there’s a kids' pool complete with water slide and a kids' playground. Speaking of kids, they can even have their own spa treatments to unwind their bodies after a days running around - they'll love the special treatments! When it comes to dining, the aptly-named Tropical Garden is open all-day and serves International favourites as well as local fare. For something a little more romantic, head to Veranda, a beachside restaurant serving delicious seafood. The village centre is just a stroll away and offers more eating options, alternatively, take a taxi to the centre of Khao Lak for a wider choice. If shopping appeals check out Bang Niang Market, there are plenty of souvenirs to stock up on!

My Sister and I have just arrived home after 3 weeks holiday at the Merlin Hotel. We will start with the negatives, ABSOLUTELY NONE. The Hotel is amazing, our first bedroom was like being in the middle of a forest, it was spacious and immaculate. The Hotel were experiencing some water problems so we were moved after a few days to a new room which overlooked the main pool, once again a spacious room with sunken bath and separate walk-in shower. All the staff from reception to gardeners were so friendly and always smiling. Breakfast always had a good selection to choose from. We wanted a relaxing holiday and that’s what we got. We can recommend the Merlin Hotel 100% , that’s why I am booking to back in October with my husband, who I know will love it just as we did. A 10 minute walk to nearby restaurants and supermarkets our favourite was the Mali. The beach is wonderful to stroll along, there was only one beach restaurant open which was nice to have a cool drink at. Looking forward to seeing you all again in October Read less

We arrived the 22nd April for 10 nights. Never regretted it for a second. We came on holiday for 100% relaxation and that's exactly what we did and got. This resort is in a magnificent setting, the pools are spectacular, the vegetation incredible. The landscaping adds to the feel of the setting as well as it compliments the majestic trees. The garden restaurant is set higher up on the land where breakfast is served daily until 10.30am. The breakfast is an assortment of dishes the cross over of Eastern and European. Very interesting dishes on offer. The Veranda restaurant is set close to the beach which offers spectacular views of sunsets. Lunches and dinners are served here. The meals are really delicious and the desserts are excellent. Every day at the Sunset Bar there is happy hour from 430pm until 6pm. There is a selected menu for the happy hour. All serving staff are excellent, friendly and so helpful. Our room was beautiful, well appointed and extremely clean, staff really made sure that they delivered on the service. TV viewing is a non, the only station that one could watch was France 24 which was aired in English. We ended up not nothering with the TV The pools in each setting is truly a treat. We loved everyone of them. This resort is far from the hussle and bussle which was perfect for us, we just wanted the calm and that's what we got. The beach is outstanding, as this was our 5th trip to Thailand this has got to be the very best of all the beaches we have visited. The sand is soft, clean and pristine. A great beach for walks on. The sea excellent to swim in and chill in. Read less

Amazing resort but affected by Covid restrictions - half the resort closed: only one restaurant open for lunch and evening (no buffet), no evening lobby area for drinks just the restaurant area where staff were very keen to be finished by 11pm. Having said all that we had an fantastic holiday. The grounds and pools are amazing. Breakfast was interesting- porridge with chicken, noodle soup, but egg station for omelets etc kept us happy. The hash browns were the best, but only appeared once in the 11 nights we were there. The restaurant that was open served outstanding food- including the best pizza, spring rolls, sweet and sour dishes and pineapple fritters! There is a separate vegetarian menu and also the option of the lunch menu adapted eg ham and cheese toasties without the ham (just ask) the staff are very accommodating. The beach is lovely- not the softest of sand- unfortunately there are jellyfish in the sea but the sting is more like a very strong nettle that after a while goes (it did put me off going in the sea after my second sting though). Amazing fauna and fauna - it really is like staying in a rainforest! Overall, this is a lovely resort, extremely quiet with superb pools. Excursions- elephant bathing, bamboo rafting, James Bond Island, Similan Islands, temples (including the monkeys), waterfalls, night market, mini crazy golf (great fun). Read less

Just returned from 12 nights at Merlin Khao Lak. Probably the best hotel stay i've had, for many many reasons, and i've had a few We booked directly with the hotel and organised our own flights from UK. Whole test n go process worked flawlessly with hotel pickup from airport and 5 hour wait for results. Hotel was very quite on arrive but service throughout was impeccable across all staff without exception. We had a Premium pool view room which we upgraded to part way through for a pool access room. IMO these are the best rooms on the site. The cleanliness and facilities were proper boutique hotel standard. The top part of the hotel nearest reception appears to only be partly used due to occupancy levels. Lots of food options on the menu and as part of our booked package we received 20% off of food and beverages for the stay. Not once did we spend over £25 equiv on a full evening meal with drinks for 2. Very, very reasonable. Our package was B&B and breakfast has enough options to please everyone, of a very high quality. The omletes were sublime. There are a few food options in the tiny village where the hotel sits but none of them to the same quality as the Merlin and often marginally more expensive. There is a great little bar called JoJo's but going to the centre you will get harassed by 5, yes 5 tailor shops to 'make you a suit' with very high pressure sales. The only downside.Theyre just trying to make a living in an impossible market and I did have sympathy for them, but I just didnt want to buy a suit! Back to the hotel. The beach is great with nice fine sand and plenty of smooth rocks. Turn left and within 200 metres there are very good beach massages for £7 for an hour and the excellent, but basic 'Nana on the Beach' cafe shack. If you want to go into Khao Lak proper, a taxi is 250 bht to the market (centre). All easily organised with the hotel. So a well done to the management and team at Merlin for providing us with a magical never to be forgotten break. I do sincerely hope you get back to busy occupancy levels soon. Only 2 minor issues. The few missing pool tiles in the main pool had sharp edges but we could see they were being attended to and the sunset bar could really do with some premium drinks (spirits) as i'm sure many would be happy to pay more for a premium choice rather than the local spirits. Thanks again! Read less

The resort is a great place to stay. It's very peaceful and green. The cleanliness of the room was flawless. It only takes 1 hr from Phuket. The garden restaurant design is very impressive. Breakfast was tasty especially the pastry. Staff in restaurants are always helpful. We had a good getaway from Phuket. Improvements: I'd recommend you install the bum gun for Thai travellers 😂😂😂 It would really be nicer for a lot of Thai tourists to use the bathroom as I saw you have many Thai guests too. The tour we went to was a very good experience, yet one thing.. towel: we were told that towels will be provided by the tour agency but on the day we went out for the excursion the staff there said "we have too many tourists today, so we don't have any more".
