My daughter and I returned from 8 days at this resort on Sunday. The resort was far from full due to Covid. It's on the beach and has 4 swimming pools so not really any need to go anywhere. The staff are warm, friendly and helpful. We had an ocean view room which was fabulous. We both loved it and would go back.

To start off, I'm easily impressed and don't complain much when I am able to afford an overseas trip. With that said I was over the moon with the experience that we had here. In the midst of getting past the Covid pandemic, this was the ideal place to come. Australia is home for is and we traveled here in January. The weather was literally perfect everyday. Warm sunny and not a rain cloud in sight. From the second that we arrived to the resort the service was amazing. Whilst waiting in the lobby to check in we were greeted with refreshments. Due to the low numbers of guest, our room was upgraded and we were absolutely wowed! Massive pool, with a spacious living area, and bedroom suited for royalty. The restaurant and bar staff were great, being able to take orders and deliver to you in a timely manner. The resort backs on to a beach with clear water, light sand, and minimal waves. Every where you go in the resort the gardens and bushes are pristine. Cannot thank Centara Grand enough for the best 8 days away. Read less

You can walk out of the hotel to the main part of Karon beach but this will require stepping out to the main road for 100-200m. Breakfast buffet was very tasty with a large variety of options. Stayed during new year's eve and they had some wonderful celebrations and fireworks. Read less

During COVID, hotels had to get rid of a lot of staff, and then over Christmas and New Year, suddenly had a lot of guests (mainly from Russia). Very likely some of their old staff had moved on, and I think hotels in Phuket have had real staffing issues. This shows in a number of ways. There was meant to be a QR code in the room for room service menu but there wasn't. We asked for a menu. It took forty minutes to get one. When we left, we asked for help with luggage. It took forty minutes for someone to come, leaving time very tight to catch our plane. My mother was being bitten by mosquitos that came out around the pool at sunset. We asked if the hotel had any mosquito spray. They said they didn't. There was nowhere on the premises that sold any. We had to drive into town to get some. (Luckily we had a car) I feel sure the hotel did have some mosquito spray somewhere, but if none of the staff know about it, then it doesn't really help. I know it's a problem for all seaside hotels, but it was a little irritating to head out to the pool or beachside area and find that other guests had 'booked' all the sunbeds and chairs with their towels and belongings, so there were none left. On one day, there was simply nowhere, the staff couldn't find anywhere, so we had to go out of the hotel to find another beach. The staff struggle at breakfast. No tea, really? And no decaf coffee. I wouldn't say that the property is aging - more like classic - it's actually a great resort, with lovely gardens, and the pools are all good. One point - it's a large resort, and the way it is laid out, you can walk for quite a long way to get from your room to the lobby or pool. Fine if you're young and healthy. If you are expecting a fun resort, with a lot of families, service a bit rough-and-ready, then this won't disappoint. If you're expecting a luxury, five-star experience, you may find it lacking.
