We stayed at The Slate in December 2024. I can say this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Fantastic industrial chic design, incredible staff, goregous food. Our room had a lovely view, outside bath and amazing AC. The gardens and pool areas were immacuate and beautiful. Loved it!

We decided to stay at the Slate based on the “hype” we had read snd also from feedback from friends in Singapore 🇸🇬 Unfortunately for us the stay at the Slate was a game of two halves. The Cons - Upon checkin which was polite and courteous you’d expect from the beautiful Thai people we were escorted to our Private Pool Suite only to be greeted by the semi naked previous guests who had not yet checked out - Oops - Once we did get in the room later that day there was no hot water. We were already off to bed after a busy day so it was agreed that we’d complain the following day. They stated they knew of the issue and were fixing the boiler but even when fixed the water was still only tepid. After nearly two full days we got a new room but even then it was only in our last 24 hours we got proper hot water. - We reserved a table at Black Ginger fir dinner. The restaurant is beautiful but unfortunately the food didn’t match the ambiance. There were 5 in our party and everyone agreed the food at the Tim Mine cafe style restaurant and food at restaurants on the beach was better. Curries were a but bland and lacked that Thai heat. It certainly wasn’t worth what we paid. We could have had 3 meals at local restaurants with better Thai food The Pros - The Slate is beautiful and fantastically well maintained the grounds and pools being beautiful. It is great that there are two adult pools although I would challenge the notion that a 14 year old is an adult - The Swim up bar at the adult pool was awesome and the happy hours moving around the different bars during the day is a great idea - The Tim Mine cafe style restaurant did a great breakfast and lunch menu and service was very good - The rooms are beautiful, spacious and comfy but the heating of water is an issue we experienced in two rooms. - We got two complimentary bottles of sparkling wine as apologies for the room issues which was a nice touch and also a call from the hotel manager. Great customer service. Overall we did have a great stay but would probably opt for a different hotel on our next trip to Phuket. Read less

Although it is a large hotel, you never feel like a number. You are a valued guest for whom everything is done to make you feel welcome. You can eat excellently in the various restaurants. One negative thing was the lack of handrails at many of the stairs and the swimming pools, a real problem for people with knee or hip problems. Read less

We have just returned from the most wonderful 2 week holiday at The Slate. We could not have been more impressed with this gem! On arrival, we were greeted and made to feel so welcome! Offered refreshing drinks, a cool fragranced wash cloth and I was given a beautiful corsage. We were shown to our room and were given a quick tour of the room to help settle us in and our luggage arrived a few minutes later. The grounds of the hotel are stunning. Beautifully thought out, lovely art pieces and felt very open and spacious. We did spend our pool days around the adult pool. A welcome change from previous holidays where music is blaring out all day! We were able to relax, dip in and out of the pool, enjoy the surroundings and were kept well hydrated by Boy - he topped us up with ice cold water and brought fruit skewers and wash cloths. Breakfast had so many options to choose from with Thai omelet becoming my personal favourite very quickly! We saw Sue most days, she was wonderful, welcoming and always asked us how we were. Nothing was too much trouble. One morning our table wobbled as we were speaking to her and within seconds this had been fixed. We stayed in a pearl bed suite. This had a great walk in wardrobe space - perfect as we were there for a longer stay. Amazing walk in shower and huge bathroom with access to the balcony bath tub! We loved everything about the room. Housekeeping staff came by twice a day - second time they would light the mosquito coil on the balcony, relight the fragrance in the room, turn down the beds and emptied bins. The attention to detail is second to none. I read lots about the beds being super comfy- for my partner this was true but not so much for me and I did have a few sleepless nights. However I went to reception to speak about this and before we had walked back to the room, housekeeping were there with a mattress topper which sorted all my problems out! We booked taxis via the hotel to Old Phuket town and Patong. In Old Phuket we visited Naka Market and managed to get a taxi back later on. The driver stayed in Patong for the day and waited until we were ready to bring us home. Patong was a great experience and a must for markets and to experience the Bangla Road - however I was so greatful to return to the peace and tranquility of the Slate. We didn’t use any of the Evening dining options as we found so much choose from along Naiyang Beach. We did feel the hotel dining options were expensive given we were there for 2 weeks. However we ate along the beach most nights and it was perfect. You’re only 10 mins from the airport so some airport noise is to be expected but this wasn’t a problem and I found myself checking Flighradar to see where planes were coming from! My only complaint is that the initial steps leading to our room in block N had no handrail - some were steeper than others and as I have trouble walking due to an injury this did prove tricky for me - even at 37 years old. I know a rail wouldn’t fit in with the aesthetic but it would be beneficial for some guests. Our holiday soon approached its end and we had a late checkout room so we could enjoy our last day and shower and change before being picked up. Thank you to William and his wonderful team for making our first trip to Thailand so fantastic! Could not have wished for a better experience and hope to return in the future! Read less
