The hotel

The first island you’ll hit as you drive through the keys is Key Largo, most famous for it’s watersports with reef snorkelling, diving, and glass bottom boat tours out of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park as must-do activities. Neighbouring the state park you’ll find Playa Largo set on 14.5 acres of secluded shoreline, providing your own piece of paradise to stay whilst exploring this part of Florida’s famous archipalageo. The private beach is the only thing between you and the sparkling waters of Florida Bay, where you can enjoy a range of watersports right from the hotel as well as venturing out to nearby attractions (of which there are plenty). There is a laid-back feel to the resort, perfectly in keeping with the area, but that doesn’t stop the facilities and service being up to standard. From a beach shack restaurant to a ceviche bar, all tastebuds are catered for, La Marea is a particularly great choice for locally sourced seafood and freshly handmade artisan breads and pizzas. When you’re seeking serenity after all the activity, book in at Ocean Spa where you can try specially formulated scrubs using coffee grounds, sugar, and salt. The top class service doesn’t end when you get to your room, an iPad is on hand to offer on-demand services to ensure your stay is up to scratch.

I love this resort - it was exactly what my family and I needed for a relaxing, but adventurous getaway. I can’t say enough about the service, attention to detail, and amenities this resort offers. Everyone was so kind, helpful, attentive, and provided exemplary service. My husband and I immediately extended our stay after being there for a day. You really can’t go wrong with this resort. I want to call out two people who provided over-the-top, impressive service. First, Edwin, the outdoor server, was everywhere and just consistently checked up on my family and I during our time outdoors. He was hustling, sweating, and did everything with the kindest smile and heart. Hard work should always be rewarded and you could tell Edwin had so much pride in what he does. Truly loved that he took such good care of my family and I and I hope he’s recognized for his efforts. Second, is Armando, within the engineering team. I never fished before and Armando saw me struggling on the dock. He stayed with me FOR AN HOUR after his day was done to help me. At times he was even more dedicated than I to catch a fish, but in the end, we did and I couldn’t be more grateful for him. He said, “we’re going to make you a memory today!” And we for sure did. We’re planning annual trips back to Playa Largo. My three-year old loved the pool, fishing, looking for starfish, and hanging out in the room! Such an amazing place, I can’t wait to return! Read less

We had a great time at Playa Largo resort. It’s a fabulous location and perfect for the family. The pool and beach were fantastic. Sandbar food was our go to for the trip. Service from Edwin was fantastic. He did a great job connecting with our kids, serving us and making it a memorable trip!

3.5*- We recently stayed for a couple of nights. The entire staff (valet, front desk, housekeeping, server staff) were friendly, professional and efficient. Breakfast buffet was good and Fritz making omelettes was the best. Outside bar near the pool was very nice. Not really a “beach” but some beautiful sunsets to be seen for sure. The tropical balcony room was spacious, well equipped with some apparent renovations in the room and bathroom except for some furnishings. One chair in our room (1310) belonged in the dumpster that not even Goodwill would likely accept. A small sofa with a couple of small stains was another disappointment at this really nice resort. This was mentioned to the front desk and hopefully future guests will not see them. Otherwise, a pleasant stay was had by all. Read less

We rented a poolside cabana and Edwin was our attendant. He was amazing. He went above and beyond to accommodate our wants and needs. I highly recommend playa largo as the staff was friendly and super efficient. It is the best of both worlds with the pool and the beach at your fingertips.

This was a trip with my family and the staff (Sandra, Camilo and Elsie) really took the time to interact with my son and show him around the resort, teach him Ping Pong, etc. Very enjoyable. The only downside was that many of the other guests at the resort didn't show much respect towards the kids and continued to use very foul language and others were groping each other in the pool when kids were near, this was in the middle of the day. The resort was great, the other guest not so much. If you are looking for a South Beach type vibe this place is for you, but it might not be the best for families. Read less
