The hotel

Florida's first AAA Five Diamond hotel – need we say any more?! The Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale is glamorous yet unpretentious with it’s nautical design, comfy seating areas and relaxed ambience. Only the highway separates the hotel from the beachfront, but with a pedestrian bridge you’ll have your toes in the sand in minutes. Alternatively, plot up in a poolside cabana on the elevated deck looking over the Atlantic with it’s dedicated bar and food service at hand to meet your needs. With an expansive fitness centre overlooking the Intracoastal waterway and a spa that offers it’s own happy hour you can ensure your mind and body are well looked after. When it’s time to explore further afield, mainland Los Olas Boulevard is the place to go, just a short water taxi ride away, for which you’ll receive daily complimentary tickets from the hotel.

What a great property! Excellent service from front desk onwards. Free water taxi passes which was incredibly fun. Lobby bar great cocktails. Giselle at the pool provided excellent service even right before a wicked storm was blowing in - thanks Giselle!!! Housekeeping was timely and impeccable which is rare these days.

Marriott Bonvoy Gold elite member visiting area for football game and booked two rooms using points. At check in inquired about a possible room upgrade along with one night extension and was told I could upgrade to a small one bedroom condo unit for $500 per night. This seemed like a pretty hefty price to pay for the upgrade along with 60000 points per night ( often upgraded for less or no charge ) but thought that since they were doing the extra night extension for $500 I would agree to pay. Sadly the day we thought we had extended our stay , they locked us out of our room while at pool and the staff at front were not interested in making any effort to resolve. Desk clerk who checked us in not there that day and staff working basically told us we could pay $1200 a night for our current room or move out. Move out we did. Hotel not sold out and no effort to find us a room for $500 a night. Just plain not interested. Certainly not the Ritz Carlton experience they’ve made their name on , Clerical mistakes made by front desk staff are understandable, making zero attempt to keep a customer in a $500 night room when hotel advertising multiple vacancies is just bad business. We had a wonderful family 5-night trip (last week of August) before our kids head back to school. The hotel spoiled my 8-year old son for his birthday. Richard at the pool bar and Veronika at the pool made for a wonderful day, including our cabana rental. Our room was perfect for a family of 4: a 1-bedroom residential suite, a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, huge wrap-around balcony on the 17th floor. Very clean, renovated recently, and seemed like it has been barely used. The club lounge was only open Fri-Sun but the hotel responded and gave us a credit for the missing days. The hotel resort fee includes daily water taxi service, great way to get down to Las Olas. All-in-all a wonderful trip, the service is top-notch, and the hotel is great. Read less
