The hotel

Visits to Florida aren't all about theme parks and children's attractions - there's plenty of places full of history and culture to explore at a slower pace, and St Augustine is one of them! Claimed to be the oldest city in the US, you can enjoy a mix of a beach holiday with an educating city break staying here at the Embassy Suites right on the oceanfront. Upgrade to a room with a balcony for views of the expansive pool and the beach all in one - because that's how close you are to the sand! The Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fort in the continental US, and it's just 10 minutes away for you visit and explore. On your way back, enjoy the many bars and restaurants in the area, or cool down at Castaway Cantina back at the hotel with it's impressive selection of cervezas - it certainly fits in with the Spanish feel of this town.

This property was the final stop of a Dad/Grad Florida road trip. First and foremost, the “beachfront” aspect was compromised by no access to the beach directly in front of the hotel and the view spoiled by a massive erosion project by the state that was taking much longer than expected. I understand this was entirely out of the resort’s control but I don’t recall during booking or subsequent communication this being mentioned nor any compensation being offered. C’est la vie but it deserves to be mentioned when one is booking and paying for a beachfront property. The hotel itself was nice. The rooms clean and comfortable. The restaurant was very good. The pool was large and well staffed. There were a lot more families than couples. There is a breakfast with a mix of buffet and made to order omelet but no table service so you can imagine how crowded it was. There was also an evening happy hour that was also a bit of a mob scene with the fruit, cheese and crackers pretty well picked over from the start. Both of these were complementary so those are less complaints than observations. There was a lot of seating in the open courtyard and evening live music and fire tables which was a nice touch. Staff was the standout… from valets to front desk to waiters/bartenders and maid service, everyone I encountered was pleasant and there to make your stay enjoyable. There were a couple hiccups during our stay; our HVAC in the room went out which required a two hour fix and some idiot was smoking in their room at 5:30 am which caused a ten minute fire alarm hotel wide but again, these are not the fault of the hotel and management did their best to compensate. All in all this review could’ve gone from two to four stars but I feel three is fair. I don’t think I would stay here again because I feel like it was premium priced for a less than premium experience. But if you have younger children who love pool time and a hot, free breakfast is a perk up on your list it might be a great fit. It would be interesting to see how different it would be when it’s not high summer season and the beach is open. Read less

We only live a half hour away, but we constantly do little staycations here since it’s such a perfect place to stay on every level. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, the entire staff is friendly and welcoming from start to finish, the grounds are comfortable and beautiful overlooking the Atlantic ocean, nightly love music during happy hour is always top notch and a great touch. With the new beach replenishment almost completed, This will be a perfect place on every level. The restaurant Harvest and Reel is a true hidden gem with a fantastic new chef, Eldridge and amazing food and beverage manager Cornelia, who has absolutely turned this place around with their restaurant. Highly recommend having dinner at the restaurant as it’s one of the best in the area. Highly recommended! Read less

We had an absolutely amazing experience staying here the first time for our anniversary! The hotel has such a charming, family and dog-friendly feel but also an upbeat, high-end vibe. One person in particular really went above and beyond to give us five star level service. Jake McMillen, valet manager, gave us local dining recommendations, assisted us with bike rentals, and was extremely helpful with ensuring we got our bags quickly and efficiently during the rush of checkout. We will definitely be back and hope to see him and the rest of the amazing team again soon! Read less
