The hotel

Visits to Florida aren't all about theme parks and children's attractions - there's plenty of places full of history and culture to explore at a slower pace, and St Augustine is one of them! Claimed to be the oldest city in the US, you can enjoy a mix of a beach holiday with an educating city break staying here at the Embassy Suites right on the oceanfront. Upgrade to a room with a balcony for views of the expansive pool and the beach all in one - because that's how close you are to the sand! The Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fort in the continental US, and it's just 10 minutes away for you visit and explore. On your way back, enjoy the many bars and restaurants in the area, or cool down at Castaway Cantina back at the hotel with it's impressive selection of cervezas - it certainly fits in with the Spanish feel of this town.

Hotel was clean and updated. Staff (front desk, restaurant, housekeeping) were all great. They welcomed Dogs! The Valet parking was a bit unorganized and because it was mandatory and costly, I felt like they should have had it together more. Disappointed with how costly the hotel was. We stayed 4 nights during Thanksgiving week and enjoyed it. The room and facilities were clean and well maintained. Made to order omlettes and a good breakfast spread was all very good. Yes there is seawall construction ongoing but we had no noise issue in room 275 where we stayed. The mandatory valet parking with fee is the con with this hotel. The staff is hard working and there was adequate staff in the breakfast area and for cleaning rooms, so hotel is well managed. You can walk out to the beach from the pool area and the evenings also included live music during the happy hour. Yoga in the morning was also available. Overall a good stay in a nice hotel. Let me begin by saying that this hotel has some obvious benefits. It's a very attractive facility with high end restaurant food for dinner. However there are many things that bother me that I probably would not go back. When my wife and I visited last week we came across certain aspects of our visit that did not agree with us. Firstly, the bed pillows are way too soft which made it difficult to get a good night sleep which is something pretty important on a vacation. It's not that some were soft and some were firm, they were all soft. Secondly, we stayed in the right wing on the courtyard side close to the ocean. You might as well pack a lunch for the amount of time it takes to walk from the elevator to the room and vice versa, this is a large hotel. In addition, there is major construction going on to repair the seawall outside so all you hear is men cutting rebar outside your balcony, Gross! The worst part of my peeves is the ridiculous mandatory Valet parking. Not only do they hold your car hostage you have to pay them 35 additional dollars a day to do it! No Thanks.....Oh and the beach, it does not exist except in one far corner because the building shoots too far into the water in the first place (Which is why they have to repair the Seawall). To be fair, the people who work there are very friendly. Jim at the front desk was nice enough to offer me a 75 dollar credit at their restaurant to make up for the construction. That was a very professional thing to do however it's not going to make up for my other issues but thanks anyways. Everyone travels with different tastes and interests. I'm sure there are many people that would love this place and I respect that, it's just not for me! By the way order the omelettes in the morning because the scrambled eggs lack flavor.... Read less

We visited for my parents anniversary and had an amazing time. The staff was very polite and helpful during our whole stay. The food was amazing- the breakfast staff, especially Darrell, made our mornings with their positive demeanor. We are already planning our next trip!

For the price, I can only give this hotel an average rating. The Beach goes for miles because it is on the edge of Anastasia State Park. Don't plan on picking up a variety of shells because there are few that are whole. The surf is very rough in fact when we were there, there were surfers out trying to surf. Don't plan on picking up a variety of shells because there are few that are whole. The surf is very rough in fact when we were there, there were surfers out trying to surf. There is construction at the hotel on the beach. They are putting in a break wall, but they do have beach access. The pool area is only open sunrise to sunset because of sea turtle preservation. The pool was full of kids most of the time. Plan to get there early if you want a quite soak. There is only valet parking at the hotel that they charge an arm and a leg for it and do not expect them to do anything but take your money and park your car! For what they charge for a room, the resort fees should be included, but that is my opinion. Be careful what you pay for! They will give you a courtyard view room and call it ocean view because if you stretch you can see the ocean from there! The free breakfast was good and the restaurant in the evening in very good, and reasonable. I took a walk over the sand dunes and saw a gofer tortoise. BE CAREFUL walking off the beach with no shoes! Some of the grassy plants have thorns! There were also a lot of dead jellyfish on the beach while we were there so watch the kids. Read less
