Faena Hotel Miami Beach

Miami Beach, Miami

The hotel

Daring to be different, yet featuring enough deco-detailing to make the grade in Miami, this five star retreat may be all cool white and slick lines on the outside, but inside it’s filled with sumptuous velvety reds, glitzy golds, and warm woods and leather: nowhere more so than in its very own theatre, an opulent cabaret venue with a nod to the grand old opera houses of Europe’s capitals. The dining’s just as decadent, ranging from the modern Asian creations of master chef Paul Qui, in the ocean view Pao restaurant, to the live-fire Argentine cooking of renowned South American chef Francis Mallman, at Los Fuegos. They’ve even thrown in a sand-skirting location on Miami Beach, a luxury spa with Amazon-sourced products, and an oceanfront pool and sunbathing deck.

Premier Oceanfront Corner Suite Introduction The Faena is beautiful and is exactly what we have been looking for. We come to Miami every January for a week to enjoy the great dining. We have been looking for the perfect hotel to call “home.” The Faena is perfect. The Room and the Hotel We rented a Premier Oceanfront Corner Suite for the first full week of January. The room was very nice. It is warmly and attractive decorated. The furnishings are very comfortable. It even has a Toto toilet. If you have never met a Toto, you need to. I don’t have enough superlatives to describe the room. Faena’s lobby and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Room service was prompt, nicely presented, and delicious. We ate at Los Fuegos. It was excellent. Without exception, service at Faena was excellent. Will You Return? Not just no, but Hell No. We would love to come back to the Faena. Unfortunately, we can’t. We live by the motto: “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.” Let me explain how Faena made fools out of us. We booked a Premier Oceanfront Corner Suite for six nights. Unfortunately, we prepaid. So, when a one-night guest shows up, they give him the Oceanfront room on the 10th floor. He hasn’t prepaid. He could walk away. But dummies who prepaid are stuck. “Give the saps the Palm-Tree-Front room on the fourth floor. If they don’t like it, we already have their money.” The Premier Oceanfront Corner Suite on the fourth floor is not oceanfront. It is Palm-Tree-Front. You can barely see the water. Calling this room oceanfront is bad. Calling it a Premier Oceanfront Suite is very bad. Since customers have no way to protect themselves from a Palm-Tree-Front Room (I asked and was told that they will not guarantee that you won’t get a Palm-Tree-Front Room), we would be foolish to return to the Faena. Fortunately, on this trip, we persuaded Faena to move us to an Oceanfront Suite—what we had paid for--the second night. So, our entire visit was not ruined, just the first day. But we have no idea whether on our next trip will they ruin our first day or our entire trip. I posted pictures of the view from both the Palm-Tree-Front Suite on the fourth floor, and the Oceanfront Suite on the tenth floor so that readers can clearly see how worthless the view from the lower floors is. Summary Faena calls all rooms on the east side of the hotel Premier Oceanfront. The so-called “Premier Oceanfront Rooms/Suites” on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors, should be in their own category—perhaps, “Palm-Tree-Front Rooms.” It is unethical to play Room Roulette with your customers. We asked Faena whether there is anyway to avoid Room Roulette and guarantee that you will get the Ocean Front Suite you booked and paid for. We were told no. Postscript Anticipating Faena's response to this review, I expect something like the following: “We will go to extraordinary lengths to do the right thing for our guests. We gave you complimentary breakfast and waived our resort fees for your inconvenience.” Our complimentary breakfast and waived resort fees were a part of the Florida/Georgia promotion, not compensation for assigning us room 406. (If they considered that compensation for ruining the first day of our trip, that was grossly inadequate.) Read less

As soon as you enter the lobby you know you’re in a special hotel! This hotel is truly incredible, so luxurious. The location is outstanding, you leave the hotel and are straight onto south beach. Can’t recommend it enough.

The design of this hotel is world class, the food DELICOUS and the art inspiring. Most important the service was amazing! Our experience started at the front door with Tyson and Nixon who were soooo helpful, kind, and welcoming. Thank you so much for taking such good care of us!

Faena Hotel Miami is a disaster! The management is terrible. First, the hotel is short staffed at the beach even though it’s high season. Second, the housekeeping was lacking. Every time we asked for something, it took an hour or longer to receive. Third, to top everything off, the living room bar, the only bar in the hotel with music, sells tables on the side to non-guests who are willing to pay so they can join the scene at the hotel, instead of letting their hotel guests, who are spending a fortune staying here, have tables. This is ridiculous. Fourthly, the hotel staff is completely uneducated and some don’t even speak English. Fifth, the food is a disaster. We were here for 4 days and during that that time, the restaurant at the beach was out of 3 of the 6 dishes they offer every single day. Sixth, even though the hotel claims it is non-smoking, they sell cigars on the beach but only if purchased with expensive rum. In my opinion, this hotel is overpriced and my whole experience here was very frustrating! I would not recommend anyone spend a dime here!!!!!! This place is a complete rip-off and a joke!!!!!!!!!! We had a wonderful Wednesday evening for our first time in Miami at Faena. Unfortunately one of us woke up with bed bug bites on arms and legs. Nonetheless we decided we wanted to extend the stay but find a new room. After quietly taking this information to the manager Christopher Vincent we were offered an upgraded room but at the upgraded rate of $895. We did not want to pay more, nor should we have. Alternatively we were offered a downgraded room for the same rate we had originally paid. Also, not acceptable. After waiting 15 minutes in the lobby while an attendant went back to report our not accepting the two offers to the manager, who had also decided not to show his face again after I asked to speak to him directly, we were given a best and final offer of $475 for the downgraded room. In the meantime, we lost the remaining hours of sunlight and now just bummed out had an all time low mood for our trip. We ended up leaving the hotel. Bed bugs are not fun, having to heckle to stay at a hotel on a vacation made it much worse. We should have been offered a comped room or much better terms. Now three weeks after the incident I have left two voicemails with the executive office for Patrick or Armando to discuss further with no call backs. Read less
