Mondrian South Beach

South Beach, Miami

The hotel

There are no rooms! Every guest gets a studio or apartment — the convenience of a residence with the luxury of hotel service. The Mondrian South Beach is a curved piece of Modernist architecture with an interior designed by controversial Marcel Wanders. The style is definitely post Minimalist with a sophisticated colour palette of gold, black and white. With his trademark chandeliers throughout, comfort in the sensual sense is given centre stage inside and out. The pool is set amid sun-soaked lounge pillows, lush gardens hung with hammocks and landscaped into a labyrinthine trail with lounge areas, secret pathways and kissing corners. The setting is straight out of CSI Miami, the silhouette of downtown Miami is behind the expansive blue waters of Biscayne Bay. Because it faces west it also has the sunsets; best watched with a mojito in hand from the bayside bar or private rooftop bar.

Waited about 15 minutes and no help arrived to either park the car or help with luggage. I walked inside asked the first person I saw who works there and asked if they can send us a bell boy. His reply was you dont see we are busy in a nasty attitutde. Didnt want to start by arguing with him so I ignored and waited for someone to help. The Pool area is beautiful the restaurant is beautiful even though the food was blah. Now the rooms are gross. They are completely minimul with cheap IKEA style furniture. Actually I shouldn't knock Ikea as their stuff are of better quality. There were stains all over the rugs, bathroom had no counter and blinds were stuck so 7 AM it was rise and shine for me. Basically Saturday night we decided to go back home a night early as we were skeeved by the rooms. I would not even consider staying here again. So many better options in Miami. The noise and the ratchetness didnt bother me as I found it entertaining but for a hotel that says they were recently renovated , the rooms were basic and run down. Read less

The style of the hotel was on point but the rooms were quite beat up with nicks and scuffs on the walls and furniture. The fixtures were in desperate need of replacement and the bed was like a motel bed. Not what you’d expect from a Mondrian property.

This place was run down, in poor shape and there was no enforcing COVID safety procedures. We booked a trendy restaurant a few blocks away and decided to stay near the hotel for that night. We pulled up to the valet and were greeted with the most foul smell of marijuana we have ever experienced. It wasn't just one or two people smoking it, it was several. Into the lobby, where despite the signs, most people were maskless. The front desk was not busy and check in was quick. The lobby bar was small and only had seating for about ten people, so we skipped and went straight to the room. The room was abysmal. Peeling wall paper, mold in the bathroom, the shelf in the shower had apparently fallen down and was never replaced, dirty area rug, unimpressive décor. For $550 a night, I expected (and deserved) much better. Since we were only there for the night, we didn't ask to change rooms, we just went to dinner and came back and checked out first thing in the morning. When we got our car back from the valet, there were hand and butt prints all over where people obviously leaned up against it and sat on it to take pictures. The pool and pool bar was very nice. What we didn't know going in, was that you didn't have to be staying at the hotel to visit the "Beach Club" (there s no actual beach, just the pool). There was a constant Uber line of cars unloading people headed for the pool. We didn't even try to go to the pool, it was packed and spring break like raucous. Read less

My friends and I were impressed initially by the cleanliness and cool decor, and then by the welcoming and friendly staff that made us feel like family. We really could not have asked for better service. The pool manager, Ted, made sure we were taken care of in terms of pool seating and towels each morning, and I have to emphasize how the pool area feels like an absolute oasis. Kim, our server at the pool was very sweet and attentive. Emily also checked up on us several times and made sure we had everything we needed and more. Besides the service, the food was incredible, hotel room views were breathtaking and my girls and I will be coming back to this hotel at the first opportunity we have. Read less

I cannot say enough great things about the Mondrian - we stayed here for the weekend and had such an amazing experience and we will definitely be coming back. It is a beautiful hotel and exceeded all of our expectations. We spent much of our time at the pool area which as and the staff was absolutely incredible. Ted manages the pool and was so attentive in making sure we had everything we need in getting set up in the chairs. Kimberly was our server and was completely wonderful, she was so nice and made us feel so welcomed. Emily also took incredible care of us. It was so nice to go down to the pool in the morning and be greeted by everyone. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The food was also outstanding. The view from the hotel is beautiful because you get to see the bay and also the ocean. Overall this was an amazing trip. Read less
