SLS Hotel South Beach

South Beach, Miami

The hotel

Situated in the playground of the rich and famous, this is a playful concoction of sophistication, elegance and exemplary service right on the beach, just minutes from Ocean Drive. Elegant and luxuriously feminine, with an added contemporary edge, this accommodation really is fit for royalty, whilst the mirrors on the ceiling and box marked ‘sinners,’ add a very French twist to the otherwise demur décor. Designed in the style of a bathtub, there are 2 swimming pools which come complete with a 10 foot tall silver ‘rubber ducky’.

The smell hits you strongly and badly in Hyde Park bar outside by the pool and in the restaurant. The tables and chairs have many dings and scratches, they are in poor condition by the pool. The lobby is non existant, no where to sit while waiting for a friend. Went up to 2nd level to sit in what looks like a library, saw a chef with her laptop plugged in working there? Then 2 other chefs brought her food to taste? Is this a guest area? or kitchen hang out? The valet parking attendant could not understand my simple question in English, had to call another attendant. I can't see how this hotel gets such great reviews? Read less

I will start off on the positive side by saying that the staff truly were very friendly and everything you would expect of a 4-star hotel. They were very attentive and welcoming upon arrival. Also, the servers at The Bazaar (both indoor and out on the patio) were phenomenal. Shoutout to Marty for being awesome. The food there was also incredible, which compensated for the rest of our experience at this hotel. My fiancé and I stayed here for his birthday night at the end of a joint bachelor/bachelorette weekend celebration. We wanted a day of peace and quiet just to ourselves after a long, fun but exhausting weekend. This was not the place for that. Having previously stayed in the Miami beach area, we considered going back to the same hotel, but thought we'd try something new instead. We used a free night from Hotels.com that was valued at over $400. For that price, the room we got was incredibly small and cramped, despite pictures that made it look way larger than it was. The bathroom was also teeny tiny. Thank goodness we were there just one night. Not worth it. Regrets. The ocean view was the only saving grace. The room also has a mirror on the ceiling above the bed. That's the kind of hotel that this is. Although it is done in the classiest possible way, I think enough is said with that. There was also a lot of outside noise in the hallways and from the elevator, as it's a super narrow hotel you're almost always near the elevator. Since we were looking for some R&R, we thought we'd go to the pool since the pics looked so great online. I'd heard that Hyde Beach was there but thought that there would be a greater distance between those two pools. There wasn't. There was no relaxing, quiet area. The music was bumping everywhere you went. It was super crowded and more like a Vegas day club than we were expecting (especially for a Sunday). We mistakenly walked through Hyde Beach trying to find the actual oceanfront beach and I saw things I cannot unsee. Yikes. Giving up on relaxation, we just got some tapas at the restaurant and went and took a nap. Another con is that breakfast doesn't get served until 7am. There's a "late night" menu available for room service but that wasn't what we wanted (very limited). Maybe this is very Miami but it was unfortunate given that we were leaving on a 9:30am flight the next day and didn't allow enough time to grab food. However, since we were waiting so long for the valet to pull around, one of the servers ended up giving me a to-go box full of fruit and pastries so we could eat on the road. Super generous of him! Very much appreciated. Again, restaurant staff saves the day. Overall, we should've read more reviews before booking this hotel. It's probably our fault for not doing so. But the pictures are deceiving. I'd recommend looking up Hyde Beach first and seeing if that kind of scene is your jam, cuz it certainly wasn't ours. We went (unknowingly) on their "Sunday Funday" and it was chaos. Other lessons learned: Miami Beach = wayyy classier than South Beach. Never again. Read less

Traveling with our newborn son for the first time sounded like it was going to be a stressful process between flying and staying in a hotel. I reached out to the hotel and was able to get in touch with Mel R who assisted me from start to finish easing all of my concerns. Worked with David F and Leslie P at the pool and even scheduled a massage with Fernando in concierge for my wife for her first Mother’s Day. Hotel staff was excellent, went above and beyond with our baby accommodations and highly recommend. We have stayed at the SLS South Beach over the years and look forward to visiting again soon. Thank you again for a wonderful weekend. Read less

Tania at SLS was so helpful with booking a bachelorette party I was planning. She answered every single question and answered my emails promptly. I highly recommend reaching out to her and working with her when booking your Hyde Bride Package! Plus the venue is beautiful and SLS Saturday Beach Party is perfect for a bachelorette party!

I came down for rolling loud weekend (alone) and Zaita at the front desk was AWESOME, extremely accommodating and very nice. Being in a city alone can make you feel some type of way and between her and
