The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful (thanks Ken at the pool for getting us away from the blasting music!) and our PH room is spacious and well appointed and has a beautiful oceanfront balcony. Food at the pool was delish (lobster roll and coconut shrimp). The only negative so far was the extra $27 charge at the beach to get an umbrella..on top of the $40/day resort fee which should cover a beach chair and umbrella. That’s just gross. Otherwise a really nice experience Read less

You may need to make a stop at both, as the mini-bar and room snacks are exorbitantly and laughably priced. A bag of Reese’s Pieces for $12!? Prices aside, the W does not skimp on views and amenities: the hotel offers a state-of-the-art gym compete with Peloton bikes, an outdoor tennis and basketball court, two restaurants (including Mr. Chow), two outdoor pools (one that is kid-free), two bars (indoor/outdoor), and nightclub (Wall).... and I am probably leaving something out. The valet has permanently parked Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s glistening the entrance to the hotels doors, adding to the excitement of the high-end experience. Staff was helpful and the daytime scene at the pool was casual but very cool. Would def stay here again! Read less

I currently hold Marriot Platinum Elite status staying at Marriot properties more than 12 separate times and for more than 60 days in the last 12 months. I always book Category 6+ hotels and consider myself an expert traveler. I booked this trip for my honeymoon and the entire process was overly complicated since I wanted to use a combination of points and also cash. The Marriot website wouldn't allow a single reservation to use both points and cash so, after multiple days of working with Marriot Bonvoy Support and the W Hotel South Beach Concierge service, Marriot Bonvoy Support advised making two separate reservations. However, since time had passed the rates had more than doubled and I was told there was nothing they could do to honor the lower original rate. I should have considered this as a premonition of bad things to come but I went ahead and pushed forward booking 3 days at the hotel and figured once I got there I should be able to work out the situation. However, things never got better from there. We arrived on a red-eye flight and had confirmed an early check-in. Once we arrived we were told that early check-in was not currently available and we would have to wait. Exhausted but still excited to be celebrating our honeymoon the staff gave us an avoucher which discounts the cost of breakfast at the hotel. We had them hold our luggage and decided that grabbing breakfast and maybe a few drinks would be a nice way to start things off, enjoy the weather outdoors, and burn a few hours of time. Breakfast was decent and the server made a recommendation on which option we should select to get the "best value" for our breakfast discount voucher. This is again where things became overly complicated, after breakfast and finishing our drinks the new server we had said the voucher we had was not able to be redeemed for the breakfast options we selected. This was very frustrating as our original server is the one who told us to select these options and that server left halfway through breakfast service! I attempted to explain this to our new server and she restated the voucher could not be used and rushed off without even discussing the matter further. I was honestly shocked by how rude she was! We waited a bit to see if she or someone else would come back to our table to discuss the matter and everyone avoided us. I was shocked! Frustrated but determined to not let this ruin the trip we decided to head to the beach and relax in the sun while we waited. This was the main highlight of the trip. The staff and service at the beachfront was 5 star. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and did their best to make sure we had a great time. Not just our first day there but every single time we went to the beachfront. The drinks were good, food was excellent, everything was perfect. The rest of the trip was pretty basic and routine. We never were able to resolve the reservation circumstance so we only stayed at the W South Beach for 3 days and then went to another 5-star hotel for the remaining 5 days. The room was nice, the staff had decent customer service but were not overly friendly or helpful, restaurant food was average, and the drinks were good but way overpriced. There really isn't anything I can think of that was either exceedings good or bad for the remainder of the stay. This is not how a prestigious property should be remembered. I stay at a lot of W Hotels and this was by far the least memorable experience I have ever had which is sad considering it was my honeymoon! An event that only happens once in someone's life! In fact, the entire situation has been upsetting enough that I am considering changing to a different hotel brand moving forward. After my stay at the W South Beach and then staying at another 5-star property that actually took proper care of us, going above and beyond, I can clearly see the difference between a hotel that looks to exceed a customer expectations as compared to one that really doesn't care very much at all. I think the best thing W South Beach could do at this point would be to refund me my 200k points that I used for a less than extraordinary time. Read less
