The hotel

W South Beach Hotel enjoys an ocean frontage the length of a football field! An ultra-modern establishment, the studios and suites are some of the largest in Miami Beach, and not only beautifully furnished but they all have balconies and enjoy uninterrupted views of the sea. There's also The Living Room where you are surrounded by art including original works by Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, George Condo and Kenny Scharfand, and can enjoy your cocktail to the sound of a live DJ spinning beats.

Splendid Studio Suites are located on the 3rd floor, with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Wonderful Studio Suites are located on the 4th and 5th floors, with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults. 

Spectacular Studio Suites are located on floors 9-19, with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults. 

Two Queen Studio Suites are available on a range of floors, sleeping maximum 4 adults.

Fabulous Studio Suites feature an outdoor day bed on the oversized balcony with oceanfront views, and either 1 king-size bed or 2 queen-size beds, sleeping maximum 4 adults.

Fantastic Suites feature a separate living room, and bedroom with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults. 

Oasis Suites feature a media room with sofa bed, separate living room with full kitchen and washer/dryer, bathroom with separate bathtub and shower, additional powder room, and bedroom with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Mega Suites are located on the 6th floor and are bi-level suites featuring a private outdoor plunge pool, rooftop terrace, outdoor rain shower, separate lounge and kitchenette, and bedroom with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Marvelous Suites are oceanfront corner suites with separate living room and full kitchen with washer/dryer, full bathroom with separate bathtub and shower, and bedroom with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Sanctuary Suites are located on floors 7 and above, with 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and separate living room with kitchenette, sleeping maximum 5 adults.

Cool Corner Suites are two bedroom oceanfront corner suites, with separate living room and full kitchen with washer/dryer, full bathroom with separate shower and bathtub, and wraparound balcony, sleeping maximum 5 adults.

Sensational Suites feature multiple balconies, media room with sofa bed, full bathroom with separate shower and bathtub, separate living room and full kitchen with washer/dryer, and 2 bedrooms each with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 6 adults.

Poolside Bungalow Rooms are tri-level apartments overlooking the WET Deck and the Grove, featuring a rooftop terrace with plunge pool and outdoor shower, enclosed garden, living room and kitchenette, 2 bathrooms, and 2 bedrooms, sleeping maximum 5 adults.

WOW Oceanfront Suites feature a spacious living room and full kitchen with washer/dryer, wraparound balcony, 2.5 bathrooms, and 2 bedrooms, sleeping maximum 5 adults. 

Mr Chow (Beijing cuisine; dinner only). The Restaurant at W South Beach (open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; serving American classics with an Italian twist). WET® Bar and Grille (poolside lounge and bar serving signature cocktails and bites throughout the day). Upon arrival - and despite announcing by email our slightly early arrival time - we were informed that the room was not ready. (later we learned that housekeeping doesn't even start until 10am). Then after waiting 2 hours there was an attempt to scam us out of our upgrade and suite night awards and put us in a standard room, which I of course resisted and asked for the situation to be escalated. Finally after almost 3 hours we got the intended room. The room was very nice - a 1 bedroom suite with partial ocean view and a small 2nd bathroom which is very convenient for the family. The gym is also very nice and well equipped with a nice variety of equipment, dumbbells, cardio machines, etc. It was one of the highlights of the visit. Food and room service were very good quality although ridiculously overpriced. The cheapness of the management and the lack of control Marriott now has of it's hotels shows up in several areas: - No free breakfast for Titanium members. Only a 40% discount on the grossly overpriced breakfast menu, which puts the cost of breakfast at just slightly more than the nearby restaurants. This is atrocious and should be rectified by Marriott corporate. - Housekeeping obviously works only limited hours. That was the cause of our late check in as mentioned earlier, but we also asked for housekeeping one day during the time we were out for breakfast and it didn't happen - the explanation is that housekeeping doesn't start so early. - $75/day resort fee for essentially nothing, or as my wife and I decided, a $75 cup of coffee each morning. - Reception is small and there's always a queue due to size and limited staff. Why try to save money by upsetting people on arrival? The pool area is cramped and small. Pool itself was heated nicely but the area really feels like people stacked on top of people. Beach area is OK, but it's a public beach and there were drunks and druggies out there among the guests, and apparently they have more rights and privileges than guests. For a $1000+/night hotel, there should be no service flaws, no extra charges, proper treatment of elite members, and no signs of "skimping" by management. Hence the 3 star review. We would not go back. Read less
