Bring body wash, in case you want to use dry soap. Bring $50 for parking. Don't expect any discounts for staying in the park. There is absolutely no reason to stay in the mid-range Universal hotels. Disney's mid-range options are much nicer (better grounds, still great service, nice rooms). Here, I felt like I was in the 1980s, and not in a good way. I guess the pool is the big attraction. But its just so cheap. Also, with the prices for Express Passes, you should just stay at Portofino since they are included. Also, taking the shuttles means you have to go through metal detector lines to enter CityWalk, whereas with Portofino you take the boat and get to skip all that nonsense. Anyway, Cabana Bay was really disappointing and the rooms were trash. Read less

The look and feel of the property was cool. The proximity to the Universal parks is great as well. Very difficult hotel to get sleep in though. Rooms not well soundproofed and you can hear both the hallway, room next door and exterior pool area very loudly.

Hotel was awesome! Rooms look like pictures online. Pool and lazy river were great for my 21 month old. I just wish there were more vegetarian options for lunch and dinner. Bowling and arcade were awesome too although i feel bowling is a little expensive.

Upsides: early access to parks, frequent shuttles and easy access to Volcano Bay. Great TVs in the room, and good bathroom space. Nice ice machine on each floor. Downsides: 1. Half the hotel is motel style with external corridors which feel quite downmarket and insecure compared to the other side. Felt very much like the poorer cousins. Beware, we didn’t realise this when we booked. 2. Pair of expensive shoes went missing from our room. I assumed that I must have left them by the pool though I cannot understand how. Despite asking almost every day if they had been turned in and told very quickly that they hadn’t, it was only on the last day, 15 minutes before leaving that they offered to go and look, but that it would take a while. I explained that I was leaving very shortly and was told that it would cost a fortune to post them to me, so I might as well not bother. 3. The kitchenette on our family suite had nothing to wash up with (had to go to a supermarket to buy our own washing up liquid and sponge), no plug, and an array of disposable black plastic crockery which I really hope was recycled, though I know in the UK it isn’t possible to recycle black plastics yet yet. If not, it seems a bit surprising to be so un-environmentally minded in this day and age. The kitchen situation felt a bit like camping (but with a microwave, no cooker). 4. Fitting 5 people in a family suite felt a bit like slumming it, and there were only 4 drawers and a tiny hanging rail for all our clothes. 5. The diner was variable in the quality of its food, and everything is expensive. 6. Service is not effusive, and particularly in the diner. I guess they are sick of us, being such a big hotel.
