Disney's Art of Animation Resort

Walt Disney World, Orlando

The hotel

Disney's Art of Animation Resort pays homage to four Disney and Disney.Pixar films: The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo and Cars. Boasting nearly 2,000 rooms altogether, the sea-inspired Little Mermaid section of the hotel sleeps up to four people. In the other three sections, there are Family Suites easily sleeping up to six people. All are relevantly themed promising a magical experience for young and old alike. They also boast a great range of amenities with fully-equipped kitchens in the suites an added bonus should the midnight munchies strike! Outside are four courtyards, each devoted to one of the films with larger than life characters smiling down at you everywhere you look. King Triton is a definite highlight, towering 35 foot into the air and very impressive indeed. The main swimming pool is a great meeting place with sun terraces and loungers galore. There’s also a pool bar to order snacks and perhaps a cocktail or two. For a more relaxing ambience, head to one of the quieter pools, just as lovely but with less hustle and bustle! A themed food court makes dining fun, serving family favourites for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If you don't have kids, sleep past 7 am and want semi quiet, DO NOT stay here. It's not even the families with rowdy kids that made this stay terrible. It was the housekeepers, maintenance staff and the building its self. Disney did upgrade us to the Lion King Suite the first 3 nights of our stay to avoid us switching rooms mid way and I appreciate that so much. The rooms are absolutley beautiful from the wall decor to the bathroom decor and you really feel like you are in the heart of Pride Rock. There are 2 full bathrooms which was super convenient, even though it was just my partner and I. So, if you have a bigger family, along with the murphy bed and pull out sofa bed, the room set up is superb. However, the doors to these rooms are so heavy (bank vault style) that every time someone opens a door and closes it, it creates such a loud noise. Also, housekeepers and maintenance staff that service the rooms, use the metal latch to keep the door propped open and as they go in an out, they constantly bang the door on the latch. Then you have their blow horn style conversations to each other in the hallway. Just in a complete oblivion state with 0 regard to guests and those who are not up and out at 7 am. Of course my partner would have a pinched nerve and required the whole bed for space. All suites have only queen beds in the main bedroom so, I had to sleep on the murphy bed in the living area which put me right by the door and the Grand Central Station hallway. We stayed for 14 days and 13 of those days, (I got to sleep one night in the bedroom) I was woken up between 7-8 am. I'm doing this review while still in the room on our last day here. Of course, having been woken up early and now, just waiting for my partner to wake while listening to the marching band banging in the hallway and I CANNOT wait to get out of here. If you ask for the top floor (which I always do but failed this one time), request to be as far from the housekeeping room and the entrance from outside as possible, you don't have a light sleeper sleeping in the living area and you nor anyone you are traveling with is a night owl and sleep in later than most, this hotel would be perfect for you. It's beautiful, most staff are super friendly and certainly a place for families. Just not a place for couples with no kids who appreciate a semi quiet morning. Read less

The pool & food are very nice. Customer service is, of course, fantastic. The shop in the hotel is ABSOLUTELY incredible & it has the most amazing smell. For people traveling with people who have some sort of disability, I also recommend. In my group (friends & family) we have an autistic person, & our needs were absolutely full filed. Thank you so much. Read less

We have stayed here many times over by now and have always had a delightful experience. And always in the mermaid rooms. Delightfulness applies this time as far as the resort atmosphere! But our room.. It couldn't be farther away from life itself, all the way up top and in a deserted feeling corner.. The nightstand table wobbles and doesn't stay shut, pushed the bed to the wall to accommodate my co-sleeping 1 yr old and the floor is sticky and dirty under where the bed normally sits. I thought I read somewhere also that pillows in all resorts are now double cased..? If so, ours aren't. The bathroom is still clean as ever, the tables and chairs are still good too. The bed itself is still comfortable enough. This review hurts me to write, because I have always loved this resort. I still do! But will be paying the extra for the suites when we come here from now on. Slightly disappointed that my boy's first visit to my favorite resort, at my favorite place on earth is slightly tarnished. He won't remember, but I will. This resort will always have my heart, it'll just have to be in the pricier (and hopefully better kept) rooms from now on. Read less

We stayed here for a week. This hotel has a great pool open late if you are taking a day off from the parks. There is mobile ordering from the restaurant. The drink line was a pain, but that was due to Covid. The rooms are clean, modern and comfortable. Our place was The Mermaid theme. If you like walking that is for you. The skyliner here takes you to Hollywood Studios and Epcot in a flash. The ride is enjoyable. There is bus service to the airport and bellhop service. We checked our luggage with the bellhop in front of the building on our last day and went to Epcot. Read less

I’ve taken covid very seriously - I work from home and I missed every family birthday and holiday this year. I wanted to find some joy and see Christmas at Disney so I researched hotels and all of that beforehand and picked a different property that was brand new and 12x cheaper than art of animation per night. I got to that hotel and was shocked by everyone not wearing masks. I considered driving 3 hours back home and that it was just a terrible idea. I decided to trust Disney and try art of animation for at least a night. My parents are DVC members and this was my first time staying at a non DVC property. I ended up staying three nights! It’s shocking to say and I can’t believe it, but Disney is literally the safest I’ve been during the pandemic. I felt safer there than at my own apartment complex. Everyone was abiding by mask rules, even when they were outside (including children). So grateful that Disney was able pull off their magic and made a great end to a really challenging year! I stayed at the furthest building from the transportation and I didn’t think it was as bad as some people have said, but I grew up going to old key west and I’m accustomed to the spread out resort layout. The walk to the restaurant the morning after Epcot was a little tiring, but the day after Epcot always is, you know? I was expecting the rooms to feel like a cheap motel and yeah they’re a basic room, but it felt clean and not gross. Read less
