Disney's Art of Animation Resort

Walt Disney World, Orlando

The hotel

Disney's Art of Animation Resort pays homage to four Disney and Disney.Pixar films: The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo and Cars. Boasting nearly 2,000 rooms altogether, the sea-inspired Little Mermaid section of the hotel sleeps up to four people. In the other three sections, there are Family Suites easily sleeping up to six people. All are relevantly themed promising a magical experience for young and old alike. They also boast a great range of amenities with fully-equipped kitchens in the suites an added bonus should the midnight munchies strike! Outside are four courtyards, each devoted to one of the films with larger than life characters smiling down at you everywhere you look. King Triton is a definite highlight, towering 35 foot into the air and very impressive indeed. The main swimming pool is a great meeting place with sun terraces and loungers galore. There’s also a pool bar to order snacks and perhaps a cocktail or two. For a more relaxing ambience, head to one of the quieter pools, just as lovely but with less hustle and bustle! A themed food court makes dining fun, serving family favourites for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 1. Having spent the first five days of our holiday at the Grand Floridian the shock to the system when we arrived at Art of Animation was immense! 15 check-in desks were manned by 4 cast members and it took over 45 minutes in line to reach the desks, ensure you check in online before arrival. We arrived late in the day as Disney arranged the transfer of our luggage, the hotel was crowded, noisy and massive (August) The food hall was full to capacity and resembled the canteen at British Leyland with lines of hungry holidaymakers watching their food go cold as they waited to pay. We had booked two Cars Suites which were quite large, sleep 6, two bathrooms, furniture resembling tool boxes, kitchenette with coffee maker, two large TV’s, beds OK not too hard. Day 2 After the initial shock had eased we started to understand the pull of this resort for family’s, with its three pools, play area, kids splash area and large arcade. Shortly the new gondola transport system will ease the burden on the resort buses to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, they are now running daily in final testing. Buses to Magic Kingdom seem to arrive in two’s to cope with demand and if a bus fills the driver will call a backup which only take minutes to arrive. We had no issues during our stay. The pools seem be used after park hours, so if you wish to swim in peace go early. Uber $25 to Vine outlets. Summary Negatives: The hotel is not the Ritz, it’s more Billy Butlin, it’s know as the best of the worst and a quick walk over to Pop Century will cement this! Big Blue pool has a weird taste of salt? Food area can get crowded even though it’s enormous! Little Mermaid area is a good walk to get food and drink top ups. Cars and Nimo closest. If there’s #99 bus stops at the Park, yours will be #98 even though 25 are not in use so prepare for a long walk after a hard day. Positives: Cars suites are big enough for a large family. Food selection is very good but also very expensive. Danish pastry £5.00 Refill mug system in operation saves you dollars by the bundle. Themeing and general maintenance of rooms and grounds is very good. Tip: if don’t want to sell a kidney during your visit to Disney get the dining plan as prices are ever increasing, large Coke £4.50, Ice Creams £5.50, pint of beer £9.00 to £12.50. Read less

We stayed in a Little Mermaid room which was decorated very nicely. I have read a a few reviews on here with people complaining about the walk to these rooms, it's really not that bad maybe just an extra 5 minutes or so compared to the other rooms. The buses to the parks were regular (roughly about every 20 minutes). The food in the hotel is very nice, my only gripe would be that on our last but one day the menu was changed. Some of the food we liked had been taken off or changed completely and thw prices were put.up. We would not hesitate to come back to this hotel again. We had a wonderful stay. Read less

Check in was amazingly simple. We drove in through the main gate and parked. A few minutes later (while parking) we received an email with our room information. Not sure how Disney knew we were there, but if it helps me skip the front desk line, I'll take it. Our Cars family suite was amazing! One bedroom, 2 full baths, one queen bed, one pull down queen bed, and a pull out queen sofa bed, plus a small kitchenette. The room was spotless, well organized, and stocked with all the essentials. Plus it had extra pillows everywhere! The grounds were very well maintained. The blue pool was a blast and our little one had a great time in the splash area. We enjoyed walking over to the Lion King and Little Mermaid buildings to check out the decor. Very well done! When it came time to check out, we didn't want to! Would definitely stay here again. We stayed in a little mermaid room for 2 nights as part of our Orlando holiday. We found room quite spacious even with two teenagers & perfectly adequate for a short break. Comfy beds & plenty of towels. Great powerful shower. Pools good & Wi-fi worked fine. Opted out of mousekeeping so can’t comment on that. We ate in the food court first night… Read more
