Disney's Contemporary Resort

Walt Disney World, Orlando

The hotel

The closest hotel to the Magic Kingdom Park is the height of retro, '70s cool. The monorail enters the lobby through a 'curtain' of air to drop off and pick up. The stylish, gourmet 15th-floor California Grill restaurant offers incredible bird's-eye views over the Magic Kingdom Park. Meet your favourite characters in Chef Mickey's Restaurant, while tired parents can revive themselves in the cocktail lounge. There's a big swimming pool, tennis courts and even water-skiing on the lake.

First, the good. The Contemporary is beautiful and close to Disney. It’s an easy walk and the rooms are great. Now the bad. Disney is miserable with the Covid restrictions. The lines are incredibly long and we ended up leaving by lunch time both days. The park attendants are flat out rude and it is not at all a magical experience. The restaurants at the Contemporary are awful. The first night, we could not even get a reservation so we were forced to order from the grab and go restaurant. 40 bucks for food that was not great! The second night we had a reservation at the Wave. We were with friends and had two tables reserved under each room. When we got to the restaurant, they told us they had a table for 8 for us. We never asked to combine the reservations and I was very angry. They refused to separate us as we asked. I argued with them for about 15 minutes and finally gave up. I ordered the special, which was described as salmon with risotto. It was not risotto and, instead, was a Spanish rice. I only ordered the dish to have the risotto. The whole experience was disappointing. I would definitely not eat there again. Final thought: we ate at the T-Rex last night. It’s in Disney springs and is awesome! A great way to end a not so great weekend. Read less

My days of staying at the the Allstars were over about 25 years ago, 🙂After countless stays at POFQ, and one at the Poly, we decided to stay at the Contemporary. It is by far my favorite resort, although my husband preferred the Poly. We stayed in the garden wing, and our room was big for our family of three. It overlooked the water, and every night the Electrical Water Pageant floated by our room, with its beautiful lights and music! A convenient feature in the deluxes is the bathtub, sink & large vanity area are separate from the commode. It’s like 3 rooms partitioned off. This allows everyone to complete their morning routines simultaneously without getting in each other’s way & get out to the parks quickly I love the lotions, soaps and hair products here too, they’re available for purchase in the gift shop as well. It’s location on the Monorail is a great amenity and it’s within walking distance from the MK! Also, love having Chef Mickeys right there! Contempo Cafe had convenient late hours too. I would highly recommend the Contemporary. If it’s within your budget, it’s definitely worth the money, promise you’ll enjoy every minute. Read less

We stayed here back in 2018 and it was definitely a great experience for our family. I actually think I reviewed it back in 2018. Present day this hotel is just sad...thank goodness for the Covid hotel rate and pass holder discount because honestly if I paid over $500 a night for this room I would be livid and would have asked to switch immediately. Carpet is torn, furniture drawers not closing, other furniture just worn and tired, old earring post found on the floor by my 3 year old, dusty, and overall not any better than a motel room honestly. We love this hotel for the proximity and the monorail, but that’s it. The only decent place to eat here is California grill. We tried the wave for breakfast and it is basically diner food. Chef mickeys is sad now that there is no character breakfast. We just stayed at The Riviera last month and sadly regret not rebooking there. Read less

We have stayed here twice at the Garden Wing, but wanted to stay at the Main Tower. We stayed in a room with a theme park view, even though no fireworks were scheduled due to the current situation. It was still enjoyable, at least for my teen, to view some of his favorite rides and the castle from the room. The room was good for the most part, except that the carpet seem dirty and the room seemed dull, perhaps because the decorative yellow pillows and the runners on the bottom of the beds were not there. In our first room, the shower would not drain at all. After almost 3 hours of the employee working on it, we requested a room change because it was getting late. No issues in the new room. However, how did the housekeeping staff not notice that? Makes you wonder if they even clean up the tub or if they just ignore the obvious problem. We are APs, so it makes me wonder if they just give out the worse rooms to the APs, based on my experience at several Disney hotels, including the 3 main deluxe hotels. All of these Deluxe hotels need some updating, especially the bathroom on this one, the decor is dated. And maintenance on these hotels have been decaying for a while now. Read less

I originally booked my trip for March 2020 but due to COVID-19 Disney rescheduled my trip. I chose to come in August. Although the heat was a lot to handle my children loved the hotel and our rooms. We had room 5220 & 5221 in the garden wing.
