Walt Disney World, Orlando

Virgin rating

The hotel

Tropical gardens, lavish luaus and calm waves characterise Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. Gentle people, laughter and good cheer help every member of the family to capture that laid-back South Pacific mood in no time at all. Rooms are airy and have a tropical feel with bamboo and wood décor. When exploring the resort, tell the kids to look out for the unique Kukai Nut tree. The only one of its kind in the state of Florida, the tree was brought to the Walt Disney World Resort from its native Hawaii. The hotel is on the monorail system that will whizz you to the Magic Kingdom Park.

This was our first stay in a Disney property and we were very excited to try the Polynesian. We were very quickly disappointed. On arrival we were told due to an error on the system with our booking we would not be able to use our magic bands to pay for anything. We had transferred from another Disney partner hotel who had transported our luggage for us. The Polynesian could not locate our luggage despite our previous hotel saying it had been delivered. I had to make numerous calls between bell services and our previous hotel to eventual get this sorted....it was at the Polynesian all along. Our previous hotel customer service was very helpful with this...the Polynesian were not! The service from staff was mixed with some being very nice and others terrible. One particular member of bell service struggled to lift her head from her phone to answer a question I had and her manner was rude. The room - The rooms were spacious enough for our family of 4 and the decoration was lovely. They could have been cleaner...dust on surfaces etc. The pool - my two children (7 and 10) loved the pool area. It was at times over crowded and hard to get a lounger but it was a fun area for the children. The resort - The resort setting is lovely but it does attract a lot of people who aren't staying in the hotel. The monorail queue was very often extremely long. The food was mediocre. Kona Cafe was ok. Trader Sam's was fun but my husband had to wait over 45 minutes in a queue (along with non hotel guests) to get on the waiting list. I feel it should be easier for hotel guests to get a reservation. Overall I would not recommend paying the high nightly rates to stay here. We stayed in a deluxe partner hotel the week before for half the price and it was far more superior in so many ways. I definitely not did feel the Disney magic staying here. Read less

Awful service. Overpriced factory they are just pumping people through with no regard for the customer’s experience. Several months before booking, had travel agent request a room away from the construction noise. Assigned room looking over construction pit. We complained and were given another room looking over construction pit from a different angle. Food was gross/often inedible, pool was chaos and so shallow. Everything was offensively overpriced and low quality. They lost medication we had delivered to hotel. Can’t do room charge without Mickey bracelet so had to run all the way back to room in the dark to get it to pay for dinner. Thought it was worth it to be on monorail, and when we asked valet best way to get to Epcot, he said take a lyft, which we had been doing everyday from our much nicer and less expensive Hyatt for the previous 2 days. Just avoid! This place is a disaster. Read less

I love this place. The atmosphere, sights, sounds, smells. It’s such an amazingly happy feeling at the Polynesian for my family. Our favorite perks are watching the fireworks from Magic Kingdom on the beach, eating breakfast at ‘ohana, and just relaxing with a margarita by the pool. We’ve stayed here twice and we plan to return as much as we can!

Our very first trip with our son and disabled daugther and other family members was a stay at the polynesian 22 years ago. The service was wonderful although even then then it was time to start thinking about some room renovation. We stayed two more times in the club level looking over the lagoon with access to the water parade and fireworks. The atmosphere was wonderful and the only reason we chose Grand Floridian as our DVC membership was that I did not want my disabled daughter on a hut over the water. Now to November 2023. It is a different place and I will not bother to stay there again. We usually stay at GF villas but decided to try polynesian for a short visit since my daughter had a medical appoinment near Orlando. Brought hubby and one grand daughter. The room was fine but the service…there was none. We drive up and we have a handicap pass. No one greeted us and yet there was a valet at the station. I went to speak to him and he would not even look up from his phone. I went inside to check in. No one uses the front desk anymore but the people there were pleasant but there was no real “happy” that I am used to at World. She suggested I bring in my magic bands to use for room opening, etc. so I went back out to get them and saw that my husband was still sitting in car with kids. So i went to the valet again and asked him if there was a bell hop. He looked at me like I had three heads. I saw two a luggage carts next to valet station so I asked him if I could use one and he said, “yes but bring it back.” That was it. I brought to the car and my husband was asking what was going on and I told him the man was ignoring me. We saw other people also lugging their own luggage away on the carts so I started loading up. After I completely had the luggage on the cart, another nice young man approached and asked if I needed help. I said, “well we did but as you can see I have loaded up the car, I guess you can take it to our room.” The young man then told me that he was a valet so he could not take the luggage to the room and there were no bell hops available but we could hall our luggage over to storage and someone would bring to our room later that day. I said never mind we would take ourselves to the room. Then when my husband heard all that he decided he better not turn over the keys to this group and he went to park the car. The kids and I tried to push the cart to the room which was some distance. In the meantime I also went back in with the magic bands. The front desk clerk asked me why I was taking my luggage and I told her the situation. She called her manager to tell him. She apologized and said that disney hires out 3rd party contractors now and they have no control over the service. This is a sad situation. The new building going up is going to make the place unbearable as it is already over crowded. I am so sad that the magic seems to have disappeared from this place. Read less

Best hotel at Disney. Food at Ohana gross but everything else absolutely perfection! Worth every penny. Monorail pool aloha whips all great!! You can ask front desk to to lower room temp to 65 - worth it!!
