Image of the Tripadvisor rating Disappointed for what should be a premiere Marriott property at WDW - Needs updating!

I was traveling on business to a conference last week and very disappointed with the overall quality of the WDW Marriott Dolphin hotel. It is now a Marriott property, since they bought out Starwood. Previously, this was a Sheraton for many years (maybe since opening June 1, 1990), and the ~30 years are definitely showing. Outside, they were working on one of the fountains that needed repairing.Upon arrival, I requested extra hangers, since I needed to hang up all of my dress shirts/slacks. I waited two hours and called again, and they finally delivered them so I could unpack.Next I noticed that the bedspread and dust ruffle had a lot of black marks all over them. It looked like marker where kids might have been drawing/playing on a rainy day. I was traveling alone and have no kids, and didn't want the hotel to think I did the damage. I contacted housekeeping and they finally came up several hours later and changed the bedspread to the opposite direction so the marks were on the opposite side. Nothing was done with the dirty dust ruffle and it wasn't hanging properly and looked like a third grader made the bed. The carpet in the hallway should have been replaced five years ago! It is very worn from thousands of pieces of luggage and carts rolling down the halls and you can actually see where the pattern is completely worn off. It actually had threads exposed in many areas right outside my room. The ice machine on 6th floor was broken the entire time I was in the hotel. I also saw a coffee spill in the main floor restroom, and someone just put up a wet floor sign instead of taking five minutes to clean it up. The restrooms in the conference area were missing soap in half of the dispensers during my entire stay. I can't image it wasn't serviced completely each day with ~1,700 attendees using all of them. In addition, the entire soap dispenser was missing on the sink in the handicapped stall.Overall, it was a really nice conference venue and massive on scale with lots of breakout rooms, so the quality issues with the hotel were very disappointing. As a former conference coordinator at Purdue University for 23 years dealing with groups of up to 6,000, hopefully, I was more proactive in contacting housekeeping and the front desk than some others...I also used the text feature with some responses, but not real resolution. As a previous gold member with Starwood, I was told my room was upgraded. However, it was not on a special floor (concierge level) or similar and my room was very average with only a view of the lagoon. The one thing that worked well was my rental car. Without realizing my error, I reserved it for the car care rental center vs. the Dolphin hotel. The National Car desk was able to get it changed after I inquired early on the day of my rental and got it moved to my hotel. I walked out the front door with my luggage and the valet immediately brought up my rental car. Thanks for the good customer service! Read less

I had previously stayed at art of animation and I swore I would never stay on property again, however the Dolphin was a game changer! From valet to the awesome bellmen, everyone made our trip easy and accommodating! I felt horrible on our last day, I had no more cash to tip but I’d like to shout out Mo, the bellman that helped us with our luggage to the car and also the valet gentleman (forgot his name sorry!). I will say I scored a deal on the room, it was a lot less than what is normally advertised, but hopefully I can find a deal like this again in the future. Everyone from Isabella at check in to the water taxi drivers were just incredibly kind. The hotel itself is a beauty! Thank you to the awesome staff, you guys made traveling alone with a 5 year old safe and easy! Read less

Even though I didn’t quite feel like I was in the “Disney bubble,” the rooms were nice, the staff was super friendly and helpful, and the property was well maintained. Our room overlooked what I think was an air conditioning compressor (not sure if that’s what it was, but that’s my best guess). The first night, I had trouble getting to sleep because of a mechanical noise. I think it was coming from the machinery outside our room, though I’m not sure. Once I became used to the noise, I slept fine. The beds are extremely comfortable! Read less

Maid service terrible, sheets not changed daily, only pulled up, dirty stains in sheets after i left as if a maid had used the room for her own love nest, used kleenex left with who know what kind of fluids in it, trash in floor, trash baskets with no liners in them, dirty towels left on sink. Some med missing that was left on table. Management had room re cleaned but but offered nothing for the trouble. Air conditioning not satisfactory, used no water or coffe that they leave in room and you have to pay for, but then charged a condement fee of 325 dollars for things i never used. They stated they charge that if use or don't use their stuff...so if you stay use it all. Another way to room price up. Safe wasn't working , took them 3 hours to put batteries in it. Room was suppose to be non smoking, but all they do is fabrez the room heavily, was gagged and stopped for the week I was there. Very expensive just be close to Epcot. Been better off staying at Hyatt and uber over daily, Only good thing to say is room service , although slow, was pretty good. Another problem is the staff is from all over the world and English is very poor. Read less
