Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

The Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives takes its name from the Maldivian word for crystal white sand, and it isn’t difficult to see why. Dhonveli is situated on a private island, surrounded by the sparkling turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. A secluded tropical paradise, the resort combines authentic Maldivian design and décor with modern comforts, facilities and amenities, to offer guests the ultimate Maldivian holiday experience. Why not treat yourself to a stay in an Over Water Suite — resting over the shallow waters surrounding the island, they offer privacy and seclusion. They have a spacious bedroom and a living area with glass panel to watch the marine life below, whilst outside a private sun deck has steps directly down into the water.

However, they expect to get away with charging a hefty fee to day trippers staying over for lunch (buffet) and treating them like 2nd class guests. They will place "Reserved" signs in all the front/sea view tables (without those rooms even being occupied or when they are, without the guests actually reserving those tables), and they will only allow the day trippers to sit on the restaurant's back terrace i.e., hiding them away. I was disgusted when I say this, discrimination at its worst! They want to have the cake and eat it too! Read less

We stayed at Cinnamon Dhonveli for the second time from 28 Dec to 8 Jan 2021. It was our second NYE trip to this resort, the first being approx the same dates in 2018/2019. We have 2 children, now aged 8 and 10 years. As a family, we couldn’t love this place anymore than we do and we feel very privileged to have been able to visit recently under the current circumstances. When we were there, it was so nice to forget about Covid for a while and we felt very safe and comfortable and to let our children be children again, playing with other kids on the beach, exploring the island and enjoying the wonderful nature all around. Our kids love to snorkel and they very much enjoyed the lagoon, paddle boarding, the inflatable by the pool, jet ski rides and some brilliant excursions to snorkel with turtles (we saw loads and tons of amazing fish) and sunset fishing. Thank you to Hussein and your boat crew for being so patient with the children on the trips, you were so informative and helpful to us at a family. We were very lucky to have seen many dolphins, sharks, flying fish and stingray. Our kids liken it to Jurassic Park because of the bats, the supersized crabs and all the other creatures they saw on a daily basis. We stayed in one of the new beach suites which was absolutely stunning, spotlessly clean and so comfortable. The children stayed downstairs and we slept on the first floor which was great to have that space. The splash pool was a complete luxury and the children loved to jump straight in as soon as they woke up! The food and hospitality is second to nowhere I’ve stayed before.....the NYE dinner has literally every kind of food you can imagine and the whole Cinnamon team worked so hard to make it an evening to remember. My daughter was especially happy because she won the Best Dancer competition, a new outfit from the wonderful tailor and we also won raffle prizes. It was a fantastic celebration which we will never forget. Special mentions and huge thanks go out to Hassan, Suleiman, the chefs and the salad lady (my kids kept you guys busy!) at the Rehendi restaurant. To Faruk, Malinda and all the guys at the Sunset and beach bar (my husband kept you all busy!). To our lovely towel guy on the beach who made sure we had our sun beds every morning - thank you - that takes the morning pressure off (no reserving or pinching other people’s beds.....that’s a personal holiday pet hate of mine. To Sara, Sheila & all the reception staff for being so helpful and kind always. And of course to Satar who’s happy and cheerful nature and flower garland making skills are second to none. You all made our stays with you the holiday of a lifetime and we will be forever grateful. We love The Maldives and we love the Cinnamon Dhonveli. We hope to be back with you again next year, if not sooner - fingers crossed! Thank you once again to the whole team, I can’t recommend this resort enough. Read less

From arrival at the airport we were pleased with the level of service from the staff at the resort. Our transfer was prebooked and we were requested to proceed to the Hotel counter as we exited the airport. The counter was easy to identify and the wait time was approximately 5 mins before departing via speed boat. The transfer took approximately 25 minutes and it was highly affordable in comparison to other resorts. On arrival at the hotel we were welcomed by the reception staff. The entire process took no more than 10 mins and we were taken to to our room, even though we arrived at the hotel ahead of checking time. We spent 5 nights in an overwater bungalow. The oversized window provided clear views of the marine life, and the bungalows were strategically located for enjoying the sunrise. There was an abundance of marine life visible from the bungalow, ranging from baby sharks, manta rays, octopus, eels and a wide variety of fish. Snokerling during high tide felt like swimming in an aquarium. In the main dining area guests were required to wear masks and gloves when accessing the buffet, and seating was assigned for the duration of your stay. There was a wide variety of food options to select from daily. I celebrated my birthday at the resort and was pleasantly surprised by a cake from the hotel at the end of dinner. We also took advantage of the welcome spa treatment, which included a full body message and facial, which was quite refreshing. Read less

We have spent a total of 7 nights at Cinnamon D. Resort (Overwater Suite Villas). We loved every bit of it, from the room, to the amenities, to the food, the drinks, the staff, the customer service etc. (Special thanks to Sara who welcomed us very dearly, Mahash our fav. Bartender, the great professionalisim of Shihab the (Assistant General Manager). Room offers you stuff you wont find at other resorts such as (life jackets, rain coats, BOSE speaker you can coonect to through bluetooth etc.) I found them to be very useful to be honest. Hotel can strenghten their WiFi as it is pretty weak in the rooms, stronger around the pool and main areas. Suggestions to future guests: 1) Chose rooms from 701 - 713 max. All rooms from 714 - 724 have very high tides and very low sun exposure. (You will habe to spend ur day at the pool to get sun), strong currents that pull you into the ocean. We were in room 720, and swimming in those water was not nice since there is nothing blocking it to the open ocean. Only pro is that the view is nicer than the other rooms and best access to a very nice snorkel area. Best bet (701-713) 2) Get a All inclusive/Premium All Inclusive package if you are a heavy drinker. Or else just get the Full Board. And pay for wtv additions you require. The pool bar is the place to be if u're staying at the overwater suites. :) Read less
