Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

The Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives takes its name from the Maldivian word for crystal white sand, and it isn’t difficult to see why. Dhonveli is situated on a private island, surrounded by the sparkling turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. A secluded tropical paradise, the resort combines authentic Maldivian design and décor with modern comforts, facilities and amenities, to offer guests the ultimate Maldivian holiday experience. Why not treat yourself to a stay in an Over Water Suite — resting over the shallow waters surrounding the island, they offer privacy and seclusion. They have a spacious bedroom and a living area with glass panel to watch the marine life below, whilst outside a private sun deck has steps directly down into the water.

My wife and I booked to stay at the Cinnamon Dhonveli between the 17th and 31st March 2020. We booked our holiday through Tui and flew out with Emirates stopping off at Dubai to get our connecting flight to Male. It was our first time flying to The Maldives and also flying with Emirates and it was a great flight but we were so tired when we arrived at Male at around 06.45am. We probably waited at the airport for 45 minutes waiting for 4 other guests who were arriving at the same hotel, but after waiting long enough just my wife and I boarded the speedboat for the 25 minute ride to the hotel. The speedboat transfer was fun and fast. When we arrived at the hotel we went to reception to check in and were firstly given a cold towel and a cold drink and then were told that they had received our request to stay in beach bungalow number 404 which would be ready at around 10am. We went to the beautiful Sunset bar for a drink in the scorching heat and at 10am our cases were brought to our room. Our beach bungalow was simply beautiful. Huge bed, beautifully decorated, with the nicest shower and bathroom ever. Then opening our door onto the beach is what dreams are made off. We ate at the Koimala restaurant which was beautiful, our table near the front looking onto the beach, calm Indian Ocean and the over water bungalows. The food was extremely plentiful and tasty. We had gorgeous freshly made omelettes each morning and mostly opted for the gorgeous salads for lunch. There was a great selection to eat in the evening and the currys were so tasty. Our waiter Jazlaan was lovely, young, softly spoken and polite. Our favourite bars were definitely the Sunset and Beach bars. I could sit in the Sunset bar forever listening to the waves crash against the wall, looking out across the Indian Ocean for miles. The beach bar was amazing for morning and afternoon drinks til 5pm on the powdery white sands. Even though we had standard all inclusive the drinks were fine. We mostly drank the gorgeous Lion lager, and the local gin which was fine. We made friends with some great people and the atmosphere throughout the hotel was lovely. The staff at this hotel are the nicest and most friendly people we have ever met. How they constantly smile working long hours in the fierce heat just astounds me. They are an absolute credit to this hotel and are who give the hotel a great reputation. The saddest part of our stay was being told 5 days into our amazing holiday that we were leaving a week early on the 24th. When my wife and I heard the news we were absolutely gutted and devastated but as time went on we then fully understood the reasons that we had to leave due to Emirates and other airline operators stopping flights from today. Due to the Coronavirus there were no outside entertainers allowed onto the island and the staff did their very best to keep us entertained which must have been very hard for them as the hotel was so quiet. There are too many staff to thank but how Osi Udin remembers guests names so quickly is beyond me. What a lovely guy. I would 100% return to this amazing hotel in paradise when everything in the world returns to normal to sample it properly with no restrictions. Thank you so much to everyone at Cinnamon Dhonveli and we are missing this place so much just a day after being back home. Read less

My Husband and I stayed at this resort for the first time on the 4/3/20 till 10/3/20.On arriving here we were greeted with a very warm welcome and a refreshing drink and cold flannel .After being told about the resort we were taken to our room (219) .It was a superior room , very large and beautiful but we had a problem later in the evening with the toilet. We went straight to reception to report it and within minutes they had got someone to our room to fix it. We went back a little later to try it and was fixed, off we went to our evening meal and then to Pasta Point bar. On arriving back around 11pm( we were getting tired by this time after travelling ) only to find the toilet problem back again . ( not flushing ) We wouldn't report at that time of night so we left it till morning. When we went to reception the lady ( sorry cant remember your name ) was so helpful, so apologetic and we were taken to view an upgraded room to see if we would be happy there. Yes we were happy , it was absolutely beautiful (253) the view was spectacular , thank you. We would like to thank all the staff , down to the ladies and young boys sweeping the paths every day , back breaking work .Special mention to Dileepa and Manik in Pasta Point who always made sure that your drinks were full , and Manik thank you for caring about me when I fell in the shower and wanted to get the doctor and then sorting meals out for my husband and I because we had missed our evening meal thank you .Thanks to our waiter Ahmed in the restaurant who always got our drinks as soon as he saw us . We would like to say a massive THANK YOU to Osi Udin , who is so special and kind , we were at the beach bar one day when he spoke to me and asked had we been to the Maldives before I explained we had but not that resort , straight away he told us where he knew us from . Five years ago in July we went to Cinnamon Hakuraa and this is where we had met Osi, what a memory he as from all those years ago ,two different resorts and thousands of people he has come into contact with .A true gentleman who then arranged for a bottle of champagne to be delivered to our special complimentary meal on the beach .On the day we left Osi brought his manager Ivor Bastiansz to meet us , who was also a lovely man . Cinnamon Resorts are a top resort and we look forward to returning some time in the future Read less

Myself and my husband absolutely loved our 7 night stay at Cinnamon Dhonvelli. From the moment we arrived on the island we felt so welcome taken care of! Our first night was spent in a Junior Beach Suite which was amazing, its right on the beach with close access to the restaurant and bars and of course the water! The other 6 nights were spent in an over water bungalow which is everything you could dream of - endless views of the pristine water and shallow enough to swim in. The restaurant was amazing, also right on the beach with so many different options of food every night! The spa was also amazing, we had a couples massage which we both loved and the therapists were very good and very professional. I couldn't fault Dhonvelli and we will definitely be back! Read less
