Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

The Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives takes its name from the Maldivian word for crystal white sand, and it isn’t difficult to see why. Dhonveli is situated on a private island, surrounded by the sparkling turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. A secluded tropical paradise, the resort combines authentic Maldivian design and décor with modern comforts, facilities and amenities, to offer guests the ultimate Maldivian holiday experience. Why not treat yourself to a stay in an Over Water Suite — resting over the shallow waters surrounding the island, they offer privacy and seclusion. They have a spacious bedroom and a living area with glass panel to watch the marine life below, whilst outside a private sun deck has steps directly down into the water.

This resort is conveniently located only a 25 minute boat ride from Male airport. Not too far but far enough to get away from the commercial hub of the Maldives. The airport transfer was easy and we didn’t have to wait long. We met a representative at a counter at arrivals. The boat ride was a bit rough at times. We had a Seaview deluxe room which was not too far from the swimming area but it didn’t face the beach, rather it faced the non-swimming side of the sea . I was a little disappointed at first but then I realised that it was actually better as we had a private balcony with sunset views. Only problem is it got a bit hot to sit out there when the sun was on it. Beautiful nevertheless. The rooms are tastefully renovated and spacious with comfortable bedding and blackout drapes. Some minor aspects of the workmanship could have been better. We had the “all-inclusive “ package which entitled us to a reasonable variety of alcoholic drinks and buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a small morning and afternoon snack. You can opt for the premium all inclusive which includes more variety. There are 3 bars where you can order cocktails whereas beer, wine and soft drinks only at the restaurant. There is another restaurant but that is only available to guests in the overwater suites. The food at the buffet was delicious. From my experience most buffets are a bit hit and miss but I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality food which made our stay more enjoyable. The chefs do an amazing job, especially Khair. The hotel staff are friendly and provide mostly good service. Some staff, such as Nimesh behind the bar and Sojan at the pool, went above and beyond. They certainly did go to great lengths to help us celebrate our anniversary with a lovely cake and a decoration on our bed. This was very much appreciated. There are a number of activities available from water sports and snorkeling excursions to see turtles, dolphins and manta rays (seasonal), all at extra cost. The beach area has wide sandy areas but it would be a good idea to bring water shoes as the coral can be uncomfortable on your feet. Some form of entertainment is usually provided in the evenings till the early hours of the morning. Overall, the resort is well set out and a good size, large enough to offer variety of activities and not feel trapped and small enough to not feel like it is impersonal. Even though it is not exceptional, we liked this resort and would choose to stay again. Read less

We were upgraded to a beach villa which was perfect and central to everything The island is beautiful and whilst you may notice the construction going on (which should be completed shortly), it did not impact us during our holiday. Food was excellent and the poolside bar and Sunset bar are great for a few drinks. With special thanks to all the staff, in particular - Malinda, Mahesh, Nimesh, Sattar, Ashen and Paula! You all made our stay so memorable and we look forward to our next visit! Read less

We booked 11 nights in beach bungalow, I believe this was the best choice and I can fully recommend it. Beach bungalows were all newly renovated, very spacious and with few steps to the sea. There were close enough to the main restaurant and bar. We had all inclusive variant and offer of food and drinks (including cocktails) was wide during all the day. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Based on recommendation we brought our own snorkeling equipment and we spent lot of time by snorkeling (amazing adventure). I would recommend to take your own snorkeling equipment - it is possible to buy it or rent it in the resort, but it's very expensive. We received from hotel management offer for upgrade to sister Cinnamon resort in the middle of stay. Therefore we spent last 3 nights of our holiday in Cinnamon Hakuraa Hurra hotel (I will post dedicated review later). I highly appreciate communication from booking process, through the whole stay in the hotel till smooth transfer to Hakuraa Huraa hotel. It was amazing holiday, we enjoyed it and we can recommend it to all of you. Read less
